Y.We had a nice breakfast this morning. The egg dishes on toasted ryr were tasty. We had the haloumi and mushroom dishes. The chef also made a kids french toast which was appreciated. The decor is really nice.
A.Beautiful ambiance, love the hanging plants and great menu too. Coffee was good, not the best. Breakfast was delicious, I had the eggs on rye with mushrooms and cheese. Dish was well presented and looked beautiful. Eggs were perfectly runny and overall scrumptious.
Didn’t have much to choose from the cabinet menu at 10am besides cake slice so a bit strange. Iced mocha was yummy but too small for my liking.
D.Hard to get a seat for a small group on a wet Sunday morning because such a popular local eatery. Tried again on Monday, yay got a table and had a fabulous brunch. Even though super busy, staff greet you with a smile!
W.Came a bit late and kitchen already closed, so have no chance trying the meals. Cabinet food was limited and the cake was alright, a bit too sweet for me. Coffee was great. Quick service and friendly staff. Just right beside the art gallery
B.I'm from out of town, second visit to Monica's. Great Cafe, very clean and tidy. Food is very very good. Hanging plants make it a different look from the rest. Well done on the design of this modern Cafe.
L.Easy to get here. Bike-friendly. I like the flat white. The become pass is asked for with respect. Plenty of tables by the windows. A busy but convivial place when I go with friends for a 7am catch-up.
T.The best breakfast that I've had for years. The mushrooms were to die for. Had a big breakfast and everything else was just as nice. Really nice Kumwra balls. Can't go wrong
G.We came here for dessert as a local relative recommended their coffee. The cafe has a rather new and modern look, also quite spacious. The iced coffee was quite good and the desserts were wonderful!

O.A business meeting is always better with food. Interesting menu. Lunch at Monica's Eatery was light but satisfying. My salmon bruschetta had some lovely marinated vegetables. And my vis-a-vis eggs Benedict looked very appetizing. Special treat: homemade lemonade. Mine was pink of course with rhubarb flavour.

S.Design lush interiors paired with mouth watering dishes. The beef ragu and chicken lentil pie is a must try. Cozy seating with thoughtful heating above. Hanging terrarium with drop diffused lighting makes the space airy like sitting inside a fairytale forrest.

A.Great location, lovely staff and beautiful food. The coffee here's ozone which is I think the best in NZ. Like with many of the places in New Plymouth the wait for coffee is too long. Here the place was not busy but still took over twenty minutes for a flat white. Not going to knock a star of though as it was still a five star coffee!

Unfortunately, we were a bit disappointed in the end. Arrived close to 12pm and asked if we could still order breakfast as we were handed the lunch menu. Our waiter who was clearly unhappy about us moving table (asked his colleague before we moved) was unfriendly and seemed to be annoyed by us. His female colleagues were friendly and attentive. Food was ok but I will not come back as I was disappointed with how we were treated.

E.Okay, so here's the deal. The food and the coffee are not bad here. We enjoyed our food, and the atmosphere was not bad.
So why a 3 star? Well, we've been here a few times, and each time, had the same experience. The food and the coffee took forevvvvver to come out. Truly. We had coffees that took 20+ minutes to get to us. We were told it was because they were busy. It was a weekend, of course they were. We had this same experience on other weekend days as well. One time, I get it. But at some point, you have to realize you are a restaurant, and folks expect more.
That said, if you are not in a hurry, it's not a bad place to end up.
8.Excellent food. Equally the best coffee in town. Consistently great service. Definitely on the favorite cafes list.

L.I really enjoyed my green pea and ricotta frittata, with a wee bit of bacon and poached egg. I'll only say that it was a bit on the small side, though to be fair i think this is the portion size i ought to be having! My partner thought his vegetarian (vegan?) beetroot burger was pretty tasty, though the fries cost extra, which at $9 were pretty steep and that's after already paying $18 for the burger. Not really a $27 meal. Coffee was about 7/10 and service was prompt.
R.The coffee was lovely and really enjoyed the pea and mint fritters. However, service could have been a lot better. After being seated, two tables that arrived after us were served first and one had almost left before we were given water, despite it not being busy. The fries we ordered with our meal were cold, but we were not charged for them after mentioning it to staff who were polite. Nice decor but wait staff didn't seem to communicate with each other about who was doing what.
F.Had breakfast at Monica's this morning, simply superb, service was fast, food perfect, just the right amount, friendly efficient staff, beautiful place to eat. Well done everyone. Loved the Christmas tree

C.The coffee was lovely, the orange and cardamom cake was yummy however the coconut and raspberry cake tasted more vanilla than coconut. A little disappointing 😕
R.Came here for a celebratory dinner and was somewhat let down by the fair to middling food we had.
We started with the gnocchi which was not much more than mashed potato blobs in a melted butter soup (not sure where the burnt butter or sage were in the mix but we couldn't taste it). A real let down for this pair of gnocchi fans.
I ordered the pea risotto and it was fine but very very bland - I had to season it the whole way through while eating.
My partner ordered the lamb ragu papardelle, which had to be sent back as the pasta was cold. A new dish was brought out quickly and was good and hot.
Our waitress for the night was an absolute delight, very attentive but didn't hover. She was the real star of the night (just in case the manager's read these, she had shoulder length blonde hair - please give her our compliments).
The place was really, really let down however by the chefs in the kitchen yapping away the whole time. It completely spoiled any ambiance we had hoped for and really made the place feel more like a gastro pub - which is really the level the food was too if I'm honest. It was also most uncharming to hear the chefs loudly celebrating when they were informed we didn't want dinner...
It was similarly disappointing to hear the chefs speaking disrespectfully to the lovely waitress we had. Both my partner and I have worked in hospo over the years, and there is nothing worse than a 'difficult' chef. To us, this is what seemed to be the case - a chef/chefs that were a little too big for their boots, thinking their talents are irreplaceable (based on this night, they're certainly not), and stroking their ego by treating other staff badly.
We might come back for breakfast sometime, but wouldn't recommend for a special dinner.
J.Easily the best coffee in New Plymouth. Menu is great. I have had both the savory mince on toast and eggs Benedict with salmon, both were outstanding. Staff are efficient and friendly with a great relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely return.
K.Love this place, have visited both times I’ve been to NP. Good selection of breakfast options and a nice variety of prices. Awesome vibe, such a bright little location. Staff were friendly and my mocha was delicious - as were our meals.
J.Orders took about 40 minutes despite it being a fairly quiet evening. My colleagues enjoyed their meals and were treated to free desert and a bottle of water for a mess-up with my order.

One or two more chicken or fish dishes could improve the choices for people who don't eat red meat.
A.Great place. Plenty of seating, even though it was busy. Attentive staff. Food was top notch, we had the Eggs Bene, and Ricotta Cakes both delicious - not overly large portions but made up for it with flavour and quality ingredients.

Unfortunately the portions are just too small for me - I got the lamb rump - which in my experience is usually a fair large meal but it was just crazy small portion and unfortunately the meat had been rested too long and had gone lukewarm bordering on cold. Despite that it still tasted pretty good and was plated beautifully - I think it would be perfect for someone who doesn’t eat much.
I was fairly disappointed all up - but gave 3 stars because my girlfriend loved her pasta 👌🏽
Pros - nice restaurant and atmosphere just off center of town, (order the pasta)
Cons - if you are hungry you might need to get takeaways afterwards on the way home 😂
P.Beautiful decor and lovely service. A really pleasant experience. I had the broadbean avo mash on bruschetta which was quite nice. I asked to swap the feta for tomatoes, which they kindly did, but they also added an egg, which was weird. Clearly labelled vegan menu items would be great

S.Absolute yum! Service was lovely and food was delicious. I had a mushroom gnocchi and it isn't your typical gnocchi too (can get kinda rich so get something bubbly to go with it. It's conveniently located next to the len lye gallery (giant selfie mirrored building) and there's free parking on the street it's partially on. Would happily eat here again!
P.Went here for a lunch meeting. The food was excellent, a good varied menu, and the non-alcoholic drinks refreshing as well as novel. Staff service fantastic, friendly and efficient. Recommend people try this place.
D.We've had a breakfast in Monica's Eatery. It was a very moody rainy morning, the type of morning when you don't want to get out from the bed. Anyway, we started our day in this lovely cafe. The cozy atmosphere and nice staff helped us to forget about bad weather outside. Food was amazing and there was good coffee too. As a desert lover I couldn't decline an offer to try one of their tortat. I chose raspberry and piccolo one and wasn't disappointed. Great place with great food.
L.We went there on a Sunday morning and it was crowded, the order took +40min to arrive but when it did, it was delicious. Eggs Benedict on point with bacon. Coffee and smoothies also pretty good. Would come back when I am in the city.
F.Went for dinner on a Monday. Plenty of space as we were early, before 7pm. Food was ok nothing to rave about said my husband. Service wasn’t the best. Asked for tap beer got bottled. Drank it, ordered another tap beer came out with a 2” head. The place had 8 people when we arrived and about 25 when we left, but service a bit slack and not really interested in apologies every time we did get it. We would have stayed for dessert but as the plates were not cleared we decided to go somewhere else for that.

d.Have been here a few times and have usually found the food very enjoyable, however last night we went for dinner, two of us ordered the eye fillet medium rare, orders took around 45 minutes to arrive. Both eye fillet steaks were cooked well done, and were rather small for $42, I sent mine back as it was way too chewy, the waitress was lovely. Another 15 mins and my order came, unfortunately it was over done again. Managed to eat a couple bites (by this point I was starving) and ate the broccoli and that was it. The waitress asked how it was this time and I said the same as before, she offered to get him to re-cook but I wasn't prepared to wait another 15 mins so just left it. They did end up giving me my meal FOC which was the right thing to do. I am unsure that I will go back though as the food was very mediocre for the cost, perhaps they had a new chef or something. Not great food, but service was ok.
H.We had a night of from our children and wanted a sit down nice date night meal. We didn't book and were very well looked after. Great service pleasant easy going staff, nice comfortable relaxed environment, the meals were yuuumy well presented and generous portions! Safe to say we were fully satisfied.
J.Monica's is a great place to go for a quick bite any time of day. The menu caters to all and the dinner options include a tasty selection with ingredients from local producers. The drink selections are well chosen for the meals and asking the staff what to pair will always be excitedly taken on board by the team. The ambiance is nice and comfortable and with the art gallery just through a door, it's perfectly placed for the enjoyment of food and culture.

I.Beautiful restaurant and service was good. Nice atmosphere. We had a range of dishes for lunch - papadelle with lamb ragu, pan fried fish, Ruben and pea fritters - food was bland.
J.Great fit-out, friendly staff, but puny portions. I ordered the salmon on sourdough and carrot juice. The sourdough consisted of 2 finger thin portions of bread, with a scattering of salmon pieces. The carrot juice was a glass that was half full of ice. Afterwards, had to go elsewhere for lunch again.
D.A beautiful building with interiors filled with low hanging terariums, warm wooden slats along upper angled walls and sliding privacy screens towards the street. I want to give 5 stars for setting and ambiance, but a member of staff asked me, in the middle of a mouthful and a conversation how my meal was. The vegetarian option was good although I would like to mention that more vege-filled options for people who want options would have been preferable.
L.Lovely place to eat. Had dinner there, their chicken liver pate is fabulous. I also enjoyed their porkbelly - Great food.
