Flavourful egg salad sandwich was most welcome on a long haul bus ride where we stopped .More vegetarian options would be great .

We try to stop there every time we drive through. Perfect quality of food and huge portions! My favorite pasta lives there!

Stopped here a few times now on our way through. Fantastic fresh burgers and very reasonably priced. Made even better by the fact they make their own patties. We had a hamburger with B's on and cheese. Absolutely delicious!! The chocolate thickshake is also excellent!! Thanks guys!!

Small town pizza places are always either the worst pizzas I've ever had or among the best. Cafe Express is very good. Cheesy in all the right ways with good crust and sauce. I got the Funghi pizza which didn't have the best mushrooms I've ever had on a pizza, but they were good and tasted fresh. Highly recommended.

OMG - biggest fish & chip meal I've ever seen, 3 large pieces of fish & fresh as! I could only eat 1 plus half the chips. Service was great with friendly staff. I would definitely recommend coming here. Warm cosy restaurant with very reasonable prices.

Huge servings at a very reasonable price. Service is prompt and friendly. There is a large selection on the menu, with items suitable for truckies, children and even vegetarians. If you want something that is not on the menu, just ask. Seating is comfortable and cozy. This is a great place to stop, particularly when it is cold outside. Only negative is that they don't accept credit card. EFTPOS is accepted.

A colleague recommended the cafe and i was not disappointed! The garlic steak and egg burger was huge and delicious. Made the mistake of thinking I could eat it in the car. Stopped again on my way home and tried their Cheese Burger... spectacular, delicious, succulent, and awesome. Definitely recommend dining in. Great value and leaves a smile on your face.

Man, stopped here and got a cheese burger with bacon..... Was so good and so cheap!! Best takeaway burger I've had in a while! Had everything in it. Thanks again.

So glad we stopped here, such a nice warm, friendly atmosphere. Despite us arriving just as they were closing their doors, this lovely family were quite happy to make a great recommendation on something that suited my taste buds and served up a specially altered delicious pizza. Homemade patties and a different selection of burgers available. Reasonably priced.

Great pizza. Awesome value, huge and loaded with toppings. Will definitely be making this my regular way point. The large is probably big enough for 3 to share to be honest, but they give you a box for left overs.

Awesome food. Well worth the money. Makes Lonestars meals look like a snack. Will be a definite stopover here when traveling thru Waiouru again for sure!

Delicious and FRESH made pizza. Very nice cooked, fresh ingredients. Classical flavours like fungi, margarita, etc I ask for a pizza without cheese and they didn't had any problem with it. I tried the medium size and it was huge! Very happy to comeback someday

Absolutely amazing place! We’ve stopped to visit Military museum and popped up to Cafe Express for a quick snack, but being impressed with a warm welcome atmosphere and lovely greeting from staff ordered a big pizza and it was instant love! Perfectly made Hawaiian pizza with double cheese toped up with hot chocolate and flat white definitely made our day! Thank you Cafe Express - you are mind blowing! We’ll definitely stop on a way back from our trip to Wellington! Wish you all the best!!!

Best place for a feed you get more than you can eat and can sit down I highly recommend

Good people and good generous size portions. Pizza could have spent a couple of minutes longer in the oven and the heating could have been a tad higher but minor criticisms in what is a good place for food in Waiouru.

Had a great experience. We had pizza and fries takeway only because we were checked in up the road but the place looked nice to dine in. The pizza was fantastic and the chips where crinkle cut and crispy. The two of us could only get through half. If you are driving through waiouru and want a meal, go here!

Tasty toasted sandwich and extremely hot pot of strong tea.

If you like lamb chops, sorry non meat eaters, then you have to try theirs. Best ever. One plate feeds two hungry carnivores easily. Awesome

GREAT Cafe, fantastic burgers, pizzas and cooked meals. The burgers are huge, tasty and fresh, Pizzas Delicious, Great Great Cafe. We always stop when traveling between Taupo and Wellington.

Two years after reviewing cafe express with 5 stars, I was back there last month and I can say without hesitation that they still deserve every star. Thier pizza are great value for money and they taste amazing.

We stopped here for early lunch break on our way back to Hamilton from P/North and had a lovely bacon n egg meal. It was scrumptious and very generous serving, hospitality was great. Five stars from us.

I always come to the Café Express because their pizzas are awesome, so tasty and they are always generous with the toppings. Felt like real Italian crust! The only downside from today was the rudish customer service. Excellent place, would recommend 100% !

Ordered fish and chips to go. Huge piece of fish, nicely battered and served with a good sized portions of chips. Served in bags and put in a box so perfect to eat while driving. Good value, fast and convenient with parking outside the door. Lives up to its name, Cafe Express

Took my wife on our first date here. The quality of the pizzas and food is second to none. Great service and always welcoming.

What a pretty little desert rose this place is. Intimate and classic inside, unsuspecting on the outside. Good pasta menu and pizza as well as fish and chips menu and coffee. All available to go but recommend you dine in.

OMFG!! This place is a hidden gem!! Ordered a large Spaghetti Bolognaise (thinking it would be large in name but small in real life). Pleased to say I was very wrong. Very large meal. Hubby had the Cheese Burger with fries and that was huge too. Will make a point of stopping here again.

Mixed grill was Best value meal I hav ever had. But just too much meat. They need 2 size options, a smaller option!!

First visit for me but 4th visit for my husband and daughter. Great value for money and fast and efficient service from the young guy behind the counter. Toasties were delicious, hot and filling. Bonus is the full rings of pineapple in the toastie and generous fillings (no tiny mushy cheese and pineapple filling)😊 Hubby says the Pizza and hot chips are also delicious and generous sizing.

Often busy with sometimes long delays so you need to plan ahead and maybe pre order. Pizza is not bad... generous toppings. Dated decor, menu & presentation food is alright tho. Not much here in Waiouru to choose from or compete with.

We arrived here Saturday morning for breakfast. My husband ordered 7 big breakfast for 6 of us😄 poor lady who took the order did let us know it would take awhile because it was her & I think her husband who was cooking our food. It was worth the wait, the BEST BIG BREAKFAST EVER!!! We have had many big breakfast at other places but it's like 2 or 3 strips of bacon but here at Cafe Express there was so much bacon that we ended up taking some back with us which is a first for us. It is a beautiful, very cosy environment, clean bathroom & prices are great. We went back sunday morning for another round of big breakfast meals, this time for 7 of us😂 thank you to the couple who great a wonderful, awesome 100% customer service. Next time we visit we will definitely be popping in again😎

Little treasure right at the end of desert road when you head towards Wellington on SH1. Had a Pollo pizza (chicken, mushroom, cheese and bbq sauce) and that was the bomb. It's ridiculously delicious and you can't stop yourself from asking for more. Well worth every cent you spent, you get a big serving of whatever you ask for....Their service was also top notch....glad I stopped here... Great job team...

Gold medal for the most generous meal in New Zealand. Very tasty and fair price too to feed the whole family. The best place in Waiouru to feed a hungry family... And if you don't manage to finish your meal take the rest away with you for the next meal on the road. Well done Italian friends.

Very nice place, has all the facilities required. Staff are nice enough and served me well. I especially enjoyed the flirty female working when i came in. I enjoyed the place thoroughly and the services provided. Im unsure however weather i would come here i was suffering from any variation of hepatitis the vibe of the place also felt specially threatening to hepatitis A. Im unsure weather they would allow you to bring in an animal however big it may be. I would like to emphasize that i strongly feel hep A is not welcomed here.

A very cosy place. Spotless and great food .we loved the wood fire. Best Cornish pasties I've ever had. Saus/ rolls and pies yummy too has very clean amenities other food choices are there also.

Old school serving ( massive size ) we could only eat one slice of pizza each as we also brought chips and mushrooms and prawn cocktails food and services was excellent. If your hungry eat here !

Love this place...I went there with my 4 kids they loved it and it's kids friendly too.

Ordered a decently priced $14.50 all day breakfast, what I got was a beautiful meal, chips, two hash browns, a ton of bacon, two slices if toast and two eggs, with a red cabbage coleslaw that tasted deliciously homemade, I only managed to eat half the entire meal. A++

We've eaten in before and tonight ordered food to go. 1st of all the staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming! The food is great and priced to match. The portions are incredibly huge! It's such good value for money. The small carbonara is probably double what you'd expect and the large pizzas are gigantic. Note* the pizzas are delicious. I can't stress that enough. I can't even really put into words how good they are, you've just got to try them for yourself. Whether you've finished skiing/ snowboarding for the weekend or just passing through Waiouru, you must stop here.

Went here for dinner while visiting the daughter in the army. The place was packed and the staff where rushed of there feet ( I think they called in help) So a bit of a wait but It was so worth it. I had the meat lovers pizza and its the best pizza Ive had in a long time and I love pizza! My husband was afraid to order the steak but he was very glad he did it was cooked to perfection and the steak was huge in size, I didnt think he could eat it all. (of course he did) - Will so go again. Thanks Team.

Cafe Express is a great reason to stop over when driving through Waiouru. The food is reasonably priced, prepared with care, and comes in generous servings. The pizza is the main attraction, but if you've got a big appetite try one of the steaks, they will not disappoint. For the carb fans, the pasta is a must. The place can get full on weekends, or when there are visitor days at the Army camp, so you can be facing a wait.
