We arrived at 3 & even tho the kitchen was closed, as they close at 4pm the food in the display was still available, I had a delicious Curry bean & spinach filo pastry, with a avocado matcha smoothie, my sister had a zucchini, kumara & cheese quiche, with a coconut mango smoothie, & we shared a small salad, it was quick service & the server was very friendly & welcoming, there was no rush for us to leave either, & we took our time. I would try it again, & recommend it

The staff are so friendly and lovely. Food is displayed beautifully i had the brunch stack which was amazing and my friend has a breakfast rosti i think? Over all the food was delish the customer service was beautiful and their dirty ginger latte oh my honestly try it. Thank you guys

Sweet little cafe with 2 amazing staff, the guy who was making the coffees was hilarious and the lady mostly doing tills was wonderful too, they made the experience great. This place also has some interesting coffees and drinks that you wouldn't find many other places like a dirty ginger latte which I had, it was surprisingly gingery- genuine stuff not just a syrup it tasted like. My friends first time having coffee and she loved it. 10/10 recommend

Dropped in here with a few friends and family on Christmas Eve, and as we’d already had a large hotel breakfast, the rest of the table enjoyed an array of food that looked appealing, and met their approval. The coffees were well made, and the service was very warm and friendly. I couldn’t resist a large date and orange scone, which when heated and topped with butter, was bloody awesome! Great job team and keep up the good work!

I’ll certainly be going back and find myself in the area again if the serving staff is change the way they respond to customer questions rather than balantly saying no for everything - amazing looking vegan menu, however when we asked the dishes half of them were unavailable. Bit disappointed with that. The girl who took our order was wonderful and friendly as well. The person who served us was very rude to us. The smoothie was bitter in taste. The entire experience was not very happy! Such a delight to find this place! We drove into Palmerston North and I’m thrilled that I did some research on vegan food in Palmerston North before we arrived. We went for brunch. This cafe needs to realise allergies people come to the place for good food and customer service. The front counter staff was very helpful however the service staff was giving no answer to any questions we have asked found to be very rude. I hope management team will look into it.

A very enjoyable stop for lunch on our way through Palmerston North. The menu options were fantastic and having a ‘plants only’ vegan menu was incredible to find. The staff were very helpful, friendly and diligent and the food was excellent quality - One going to the top of our NZ Vegan lunches out. So many tasty vegan (and non-vegan) options! Staff was super friendly and helpful. Coffee was delicious (and I really appreciated that the different alternative milks had different costs instead of making them all the same!) Really appreciated the progressive vibe! Such a relaxing atmosphere, with great music playing, interesting magazines to thumb through, and cool art to gaze at while you eat/drink. The little area the cafe is located in is super cool too, tucked away near the center for sustainable living and an art gallery. Highly recommend this place!! You can also find free 120 min parking on Linton Street :)

Great range of food available, and in a quaint and cosy location next to a small art gallery with interesting pieces to be viewed. An entire vegan menu is available including vegan friendly beverages (cold and hot). Would recommend to any visitors of Palmerston North looking for a good meal!

I found out about Cafe Royale whilst browsing a very helpful website called VeganPalmy. This is a cute little cafe tucked in a cosy gallery. They had an entire vegan menu. If I were staying in Palmerston North for longer I had frequented this place. Friendly staff, lots of menu items and cabinet items. The banana blossom 'fish' and chips was a delicious meal for lunch. The chips were perfect, the banana blossom 'fish' was really nice and interesting to try. The side salad was actually amazing. You made the stop at Palmy very rewarding. Thanks so much.

If you are looking for nice flavor, good quality breakfast this is the place! high recommend the Smash Avo and the Eggs Bene. I don't give you 5 stars because the coffee could be better.

Cafe Royale is one of those cafes that is great for vegetarian and non vegetarian diners. Their amazing homemade food is complimented with a high quality coffee and range of teas. It was great to see a high level friendly and competent service. Highly recommended.

Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. You could tell quality ingredients are used to produce dishes that are simply delightful. The café also offers a wonderful drink menu, and they offer some of the best wines & beers. The drinks are pricey but surely worth sampling. Do try their sour bread and soup, outstanding flavours. The slices and cake menu looked yummy also, wanted to try them all! we had the apricot slice with cream, was very delicious. I’d love to visit again. I'd recommend it as a nice place to go with friends, family, or a partner.

When we are in Palmy it's our go to place for vegetarian food, plenty of choice. Yesterday was my husbands 80th birthday and table number 23 the correct date. I mentioned this to the girls serving. What a lovely surprise when they gave us a beautiful orange almond slice after our meal. Great meal, great staff and a very happy birthday boy. Thank you girls.

Popped into Cafe Royale today for a coffee and was served by a blonde chick who was extremely nice and well mannered and cheery. She said she's learning to make the coffee and boy did she do well 10/10 .The coffee was amazing followed my instructions to the letter and service with a smile. Definitely worth the very positive reviews. a fabulous place to sit, good coffee and lovely brunch (also open for lunch). Try the coconut bacon! (great vegan menu - which I am not - but it pleases non-vegans as well). The serves are very generous. We didn't have time the following day, but still got take-away coffees.

It may look like your average neighborhood cafe, but Cafe Royale is anything but! I wandered in with two friends on a Monday lunch time, and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and incredible aroma of coffee and food cooking. We ordered our meals, which came out very fast and looking of great quality. The garlic mushrooms on toast were creamy and well seasoned, our expectations continued to be exceeded with the rest of the meals, as well as the coffee. By the end of the meal we were planning our next visit. Thank you for a wonderful experience

New to Palmerston North. So lucky to have found this little gem tucked away near the back of the square. Little hard to find if you haven’t been there before tho. I can see why Cafe Royale is highly praised. Friendly staff, great atmosphere awesome food scones and cakes are absolutely delicious, they also have a great range of menu items for all times of the day. Coffee can be a little hit and miss depending who is on I have found,over all 5 starts my new regular.

What a pity that the service does not accompany the high quality of the food. You can hardly get a smile out of the lady behind the coffee machine. Seemed like we were a bother to her as she huffed and puffed. On the up side there was another waitress who is always around willing to exchange some kind words with the other patrons. Food was fast and delicious the sour bread was a great match with our egg breakfast. Coffee was bitter and to hot . Would have given a 5 star if the service was improved. SM

Great food and generous portions (especially with nicer ingredients like salmon and mushroom). Had the mighty vegan breakfast which was delicious (although I'd prefer a hash brown to a crispy rosti), friend had eggs benedict and loved it too. Nice location in the arts centre.

Fantastic menu options! I regularly pop in for a quick lunch with friends and clients - everyone from your regular herbivore to full vegan or gluten free diets are catered for. Excellent coffee and free wi-fi, with any always changing exhibition right next door. Very relaxed and never packed - highly recommend.

Our favourite cafe/restaurant in Palmerston North. Delighted every time we come enjoy the delicious, wholesome food, warm atmosphere and good cheer. Rob, Rachael and the team are always smiling and ready to chat. Great range of craft beers, wines, awesome coffee, and did I mention that the food is top notch? We are a couple who have lived and dined around the world, and this is our regular -- we are never disappointed.

I love the variety of gluten free, vegetarian and vegan food that is always available here. Even better, is that it is away from the road and not as busy as other cafe's where people eat "to be seen". The staff are very friendly, and cater to your dietary requirements. Had the best meal and evening here and so reasonably priced. The mains are round $16-22. Three of us all tried different dishes and we all loved them. One chose the crumbed fish and he said this was the best crumbed fish he had ever had (and he's fussy). One had the chicken and brie rissotto which was very much enjoyed. I had the spinach and mushroom curry and I say the best I have ever tasted; it wasn't hot spicy but so satisfyingly warm-spicy-delicious. The apple and rhubarb crumble was perfect and the trio of icecream satisfied the crumbed fish customer. This was all complemented with nice wine or beer as suited. I enjoy the craft beer choices here. I'm definitely returning to try some of the other menu items (and probably the crumble again!) Walk on to the back of the Square Edge building. It's light and bright and on sunny days the back doors open to a courtyard. Sometimes there's art exhibitions; sometimes there's live music. Open daytime 7 days but nights Thursday-Saturday. Cafe Royale is an excellent dining experience and must surely be best value for money in town. This truly is an excellent dining choice.

Have visited Café Royale many times and it is really a favorite of ours. Really refreshing to find a menu with a bit more variety than usually eggs bene etc in Palmerston North. Though I haven't had a beer here as we are usually here for brunch the range of craft beer available is also great to see. While some recent review sight poor service we have never had a bad experience

Awesome ambiance and friendly service. The place to go if you have a food intolerance or dietary requirements. They have an entire "plants only" brunch menu and they work really hard to serve people who are gluten or dairy free. Don't forget to check out the unusual drinks cabinet - chilli lemonade, boutique ginger beer and organic kombucha all feature.

Went here after seeing the dedication to gluten free food. I tried the French toast, and it's was really good. The mint slice (and many others) is gluten free and it looks massive and delicious. Sadly I had no tummy space left to try it.

I try this place over and over but almost always come away underwhelmed and feeling over charged. A pet hate is cafes packing up and sweeping etc while you're still eating. Also they had non gluten free items above gluten free in the cabinet - big no no because a crumb can contaminate the gluten free items below - maybe no problem for non Celiac gluten intolerance but potential disaster for a Celiac. Also my partner ordered gluten free soup and was served normal bread... And then was told this was her fault, despite the blackboard clearly saying GF soup and bread....

Came for lunch today with my husband after an internet search for gluten free cafes. What an awesome selection of delicious fresh food...I was so impressed to find the counter food was packed with gluten free food and with a menu full of delicious GF options as well. The coffee was excellent also. I have been a hospitality industry professional for 20 years, teaching NZ Barista cert as well as city and guilds. I highly recommend anyone who loves food and coffee to visit!!

Thank you for such incredible customer service, visiting from Whangarei for the weekend we visited twice. As a Celiac the range of safe food was immense and varied, also a great range of delicious beers to keep the other half happy and some non alcoholic beverages I'd never come across previously and thoroughly enjoyed.
