Great local pub close to the Waihi Waterfall. Friendly staff and great pub grub. The food is served promptly and the beer is cold. They even had a good house Rosé on ice. We had the platter - a lot of food for two - would be great for 4 at lunch time. Definitely a destination in itself!

We stopped by after visiting Waihi Falls. A great late lunch/early dinner. Both the Kiwi burger and Chicken burger (with bacon of course) were really tasty. We appreciated they let us take the dogs into to back outdoor area too. Lovely place to stop.

Friendly staff. Food is awesome, heaps of it for good prices, and a big drinks selection. Nice outdoor area.

stayed in the lodge with a group of motorcyclists last weekend.The publican and his family and staff were amazing.Our package deal included dinner,accomodation and breakfast and the food was first rate.A really great deal.Highly recommended.........11 out of 10

Cannot fault the community of Pongaroa, the locals are very friendly and welcoming. The pub staff (Paula, Melissia and Mrs Monk ) are extremely nice and accommodating, the meals were absolutely fabulous and very generous.we really enjoyed our brief time time thank you for making us feel welcome. We will be back

Best pub ever and the absolute best seafood chowder I've ever had in my life happy helpful caring staff who make you feel like one if the locals could not rate highly enough.

Great coffee and burgers for a motorcycle lunchtime stop. Always friendly service.

Nice little pub, had a great value meal. The outside undercover area is a good size with loads of seating/lean tables. Pity I live too far away ( Dannevirke) to make it my local. Well worth the trip. Go there you won't regret it. Also they have an annual "Pongaroar" game meat weigh in competition. Will be there this year.!!

Excellent atmosphere on a Sunday, unfortunately a long wait for a bowl of fries due to how busy it. Must come back to try again.

Great pit stop for weary motorcyclists touring the must do back roads of the Nth Island. Not one of the 4 of us could finish our meals. Nice cold drinks and lovely friendly hosts

Very enjoyable experience.

Real NZ. No BS, hands down great people, great spot. Spend the night at the domain, eat at the pub, 24 hr fuel. Beaches on the coast are empty stretches of smooth and and rolling surf. My new favourite spot and I live near Tekapo so Pongaroa is as good as anywhere in NZ to me.

The Pongaroa pub is a destination that shouldn't be missed if you are heading through to Waihi falls, or doing the whole highway 52 journey from Masterton to Waipukarau. The food is great. They make man sized burgers and as I found out on this trip, lady sized burgers too. The locals are friendly and the staff accommodating. You could live on a bowl of chips. I've even cycled to Pahiatua from the pub fuelled by a bowl of chips. Put it on your must see places. Popular with motorcyclists too, thanks to the wonderful winding road that leads too its door. Just a short drive to Akatio Beach too. Do what we do, make it a day trip coast to coast. Head to Akatio for the morning. Lunch at Pongaroa, visit Waihi falls then head to Foxton Beach for a fish dinner.
