Good fortune coffee, ✔️ BEAUTIFUL Fresh Cream Doughnut, with a good amount of Jam throughout! Lots of sweet treats. Some savoury too! Good customer service. Just divine. We came here just for the buttermilk cheddar scone and oh boy was it worth it. Crispy outside, fluffy on the inside, this humble scone is not to be underestimated and lives up to its reputation as the best scone in town.

Good range of options, nice food. Drinks took a while to arrive, when it didn't seem busy. But apart from that it's worth checking out. We also miss the kids boxes, none available when we were in last.

Was really looking forward to try the new place, purposely avoided the first few opening weeks. Went in last Friday to have lunch, food was 4/5; service was 1/5 for what we have paid for. Although the pace is new new, however feeling like we are paying for the staffs that their mind are not quite there with it. Very slow serving! We have to go to the counter 4 times to get a table, a table number, our order and back to find out where and when we will be getting our food. Spot was 5/5; Kids friendly 5/5 I hope things will never getting better for future given it is still new hence the reason why rated 3/5.

Friendly staff. Nice food. Only downside is being surrounded by dead animals. Not a great look while trying to enjoy a meal, especially with children.

Wanted to try a new cafe so we came here for brunch. Spent just under $60 for 2 thin waffles & sliced banana, big breaky & two drinks. We were shown to our table with no menu & unsure whether we could order at our table or at the counter. Won’t be rushing to come back. 3 stars because despite all of that, the staff was kind.

Outstanding setting, beautifully kept place and grounds. Parking limited and very narrow slots! Food good and fairly priced. Coffee excellent! Service a bit random, possibly a bit understaffed but that may be because of extra work with level 2

Had a delicious and relaxed meal at Gear last Friday. The menu isn't extensive but the food was really good. We'll be back to try the brunch menu.

Glorious place with amazing food and epic coffee. The only thing I really don't like the taxadermy, but just sit facing away from it lol (just FYI for others like me). Gorgeous place on immaculate grounds :)

Group of ladies from Kapiti Golf Club enjoyed an end of season lunch here today.Meals and drink service went well!Compliments to Eddie (Indian name? unpronounceable he said)who waited on us well and coped very well with a challenging bunch of ladies!!

We had a wonderful meal at the Gear Eatery and Bar on Saturday night! Attentive service, delicious braised lamb. Such a gorgeous venue. We'll be back for lunch, dinner and maybe even breakfast if we get up early enough. The menu is family-oriented, so our grandchildren will enjoy a treat here, along with a wander around the grounds. Top notch! Congratulations to the new owners, who have got the right mix for this stunning site.

A really nice place. Was very busy and staff were doing their best. A great atmosphere, delish coffee and the best bacon and eggs i have ever tasted. The view was spectacular as well as the setting. It's definitly a place worth going to.

Great spot for a nice lunch, friendly staff and good food sensibly priced. Parking is a bit tight when they're busy, but there's plenty of space on the road if you're happy to walk up to the house.

The service was good, the cabinet food looks great. But the burger is tiny, and the (kids) waffles pretty flat. I'll try again when they've been open a little longer.

Really nice. A mix of colonialism, 50s, 60s, nautical, and art deco 😆 Nice views of the harbor, nice gardens, nice staff, it's just a "nice" place. I would imagine Summertime it will be awesome as it has a nice outdoor area for eating and drinking as well as a big play area with lots of trikes for the kids and some bush walks.👍💗 A great place to support in an otherwise culturally barren place like Papakowhai 😆👍💗

From the moment we arrived through to our departure we were fully taken care of at a very busy time of the day. Full credit to Eddie and the rest of the staff .The food was excellent and as there were 11 of us ranging from 3years to 80 there was a variety of dietary preferences. Fantastic dining experience at Gear Homestead recently. The new owners have done a fantastic job with their menu, décor, ambience, and delivered an environment that is a delight to be in. We will be back many times over I am sure. Congratulations!

Takeaway coffee and Buttermilk and Cheddar scone this morning. Very good coffee, the scone awesome. The lady that does the baking is obviously very skilled. Everything looked great.

Had a lovely meal here this evening. Sad to say last chance to visit the bistro before it closes. Beautiful setting and thank you to the team, I wish you well in your future endeavors. Hopefully the homestead will re emerge like a butterfly from its cocoon and have a bright new future.

We went at 11.00am on Sunday. Gear breakfast was very good and so was the buttermilk scone. Service was good in spite of being busy. Great setting. Thank you.

Very nice environment but busy in the weekend so be sure to book. Couple of our burgers were a bit overcooked and the drinks service was a tad slow. We will be back though.

Very nice venue with great Maritime theme. Good atmosphere and a great look over to Titahi bay. Had a delicious chicken burger. I'll be coming back, the popcorn fish another table got looked yummy!

We arrived without a booking and a table was quickly made available for the 5 of us plus a highchair for our 18 month old. Lovely afternoon tea and coffee. Will definitely go back.

A week after opening I had a table for 5 booked, however extra whanau turned up. Even thou they were completely booked, Gear E&B still managed to find room for us. All front of house staff were fairly new to the job however they seemed to cope really well with the extra people. Food came out within a adequate time and everyone made nice comments on their meals. I loved the fish and the red wine...thanks for the recommendation.

Think we have just found our new favourite restaurant. The Gear Homestead cafe and function venue The food is amazing and priced really reasonably. My steak was cooked so well that it didnt matter that I wasnt given a steak knife. Amazing view. The best place to watch a great sunset Cant wait for Summer and dining whilst looking at the beautiful water view. I strongly recommend everyone to go and support this amazing local business you wont be disappointed.

Great venue magnificent views but the staff and interaction with customers in conjunction with impeccable meals makes this venue a jewel that Porirua can be proud of well worth the trip to sample this exquisite paradise.

Lovely place to stop in and have a coffee. Beautiful views and a good amount of space both inside and out. Did take quite awhile for coffees to be delivered to the table (after food came out) and on the menu it doesn't really stipulate what kind of coffee you offer (e.g. latte, mocha). Food was tasty but some meals I felt were overpriced for what you got e.g. eggs benedict came out and was quite a small meal but was $21-25 depending on what protein you picked to go with it. I'd visit again as the grounds are stunning but I'd probably just order a coffee and not food next time.

Beautiful wedding venue. Sad it's not going to be one anymore but should do well as a cafe and cocktail bar. Pottery shop in the garden was lovely with local potters wares.

All 6 of us had delicious meals at lunchtime. The people serving were bright and cheerful, love the decor.

It’s such a gorgeous venue with an old school theme that suits the homestead very well. Perfect place to enjoy a hot, delicious meal during these colder months

Yummy food! Amazing outdoor/indoor setting.

We had a booking 15th of May. I messaged via messenger that we would be arriving 30 mins later than the stipulated time. Messenger message read, no response. I rung an hour and a half before the original time, told moving the booking 30mins later was "no worries". Arrive at the time agreed upon only to find they had given our booking to someone else as they assumed we weren't arriving. Staff managed to push to bar learners together right by the door to accommodate us. Happy birthday to me 😆. Food was delish however we did have a few gripes with wrong drink orders and slow service. A front of house manager would be beneficial.

Current new bistro meals are delicious and reasonably priced . Served in a warm & cosy dining area on Friday, Saturday & Sunday evenings. Booking easy via internet.

A nice cafe hidden in the woods of Adrenaline Forest. Great food and service with a warm vibe from things like brightly coloured chairs and plates. Personally the prices held me back a little, such as canned drinks for $3.50 or $4.50.

Food was yum and the hospitality was 💯💯 owner took me for a tour around the place was a awesome host. Beautiful views

Spent an afternoon wth my daughter and three young grandchildren on a glorious day. We had late lunch served in the grounds and my grandchildren had fun exploring the gardens and climbing the trees. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely be going again.

Wow, the food here is fantastic. My partner and I went on an odd chance and really enjoyed the food and service. I had the pulled pork on a potato waffle and it was top notch. A real hidden gem!

The perfect spot for a coffee and a piece of orange cake, on a perfect autumn day in April. Also a great wedding venue (and I have to recommend April for that as well). Apparently it's also been a spaceship, but that was a long time ago now and in Bad Taste!

Had a delicious meal here this evening highly recommend I had the duck on a bed of bck choy and my husband lamb fillet with couscous and spinach in filo.

Great historic landmark for Porirua has had its soul removed and turned into just another Cafe, food was average, service was great, prices too high for what you get. Go for the garden and a drink.

Gear Homestead is an amazing example of New Zealand Victorian architecture (it was built in 1887) and I think the grounds and view are the best in Porirua. The new cafe/bar onsite is well worth a visit too - they make great coffee.

A beautiful wedding location. Got married here, and couldn't imagine a better location to get married. The staff there were friendly and supportive. Top stuff!
