I really loved this ski ⛷️ feild , it's pretty good ! I would definitely rate it as high as the other great ski feilds in queens town that you would want to go and try it out and try and catch it on a good powder day ❤️🏂

Went during summer, amazing views the whole way up the road, well worth the drive if nothing else

Fenomenal place. Very friendly and relaxed customer service. At the school holiday period can become quite busy and not unusual to wait 15-20 minutes for a ski lift but I guess thats normal for every ski resort. Free parking and free shuttle bus from parking areas. Good food court and amenities. Overall a family oriented ski place worth visiting.

At the foothill it’s cloudy & rainy; when driving up past Windy Point it’s all sunny side up! There are 2 spots on your way up that you are allowed to pullover. These photos were taken from the one that’s stones away from the Skifield. Love the drive & the view!

Truly this is a remarkable ski field and mountain. I would return back here in a second for more snowboarding and I would definitely take more photos. I would recommend taking plenty of thermal clothing, a beanie, a good pair of ski goggles, gloves, jacket and pants. If your snowboarding getting some good snowboarding boots as well. Although I did hire all of the gear in queenstown on previous trips. Lots of interesting people here from all around the world.

The staff are extremely pleasant. We spent 3 days at remarkables and everyone we encountered added to the great experience. We didn’t get lessons however the staff were always so helpful giving us tips to get us through. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.

Ah so good today even with level 2 restrictions. The staff did a great job making it easy to ski. The family had a great time.

Great ski area but one problem. Despite buying $140 full day lift pass, they charge it to go on the bus up and down the access road. This is crazy as it encourages more cars, destroys the road which is more expensive for them to maintain and poor environmentally as discourages people to take the bus.
R. M.
This mountain has great infrastructure should be fantastic but it’s a let down in the details.
The toilets always smell of pee, every day.
The lifts have bigger queues than necessary because the lifties are all young and inexperienced and the management of the lines is really poor..
The busses don’t run regularly enough, so you have to wait ages in the car park to go up and wait again to come down. No usher support for the bus drivers.
The restaurants, like everywhere else have no supervisors. Everyone working here is young/inexperienced so when something goes wrong, the lines grow and it’s chaos.
In summary, this great ski area is let down by really poor or absent management.

In summer you can still come here to do the Lake Alta Track - it starts at the main ski area near the carpark. Follow the signs, walk up along the magic carpet. It’s about 1.5 hr return. The start is a gradual climb but bring your windbreaker or fleece as the winds at the top are chilly. The crystal blue waters of the lake can be seen in summer and in winter you’ll get a frozen lake with snow and ice on the mountains - both equally beautiful (: You also have the option to do the 8hr trek to wye creek beyond lake Alta if you want to.

Absolutely brilliant ski field. The best runs in the area and really good facilities on the slopes including a ice bar accessible from the longest chairlift. All the staff on the lifts are really helpful and friendly. The road up which can be scary, I would have rated it 4.5 if possible because once you are there it is the best but getting there feels unfinished.

Got up the mountain early 8.50am stunning views, and easy parking, z petrol station for a car wash

Scott our teacher (as we were first timers) was amazing! He definitely made learning and skiing super fun. Very patient and always had us in laughing fits. Fun experience overall!

Love coming back here. The facilities were upgraded since our first visit six years ago and it is really great now. I'm only at a lower level of skill, so can only speak of green and blue, but beyond that, the facilities, hiring, vantage points (yep, I was injured) are all great.
You can wait a little for coffee, but it was school holidays and nearly the end of the season, so pretty busy. The food was a little on the expensive side, but no more than you would expect, given where you are. To balance it, the meal sizes are large.
As with Coronet peak, the staff at the skin school make this place. They are knowledgeable, patient and fun. Our kids enjoyed every day.
If you are not a fan of heights, or driving through...interesting.. terrain, you may want to catch the bus. We typically drive to Coronet, but bus to remarkables. Just make sure you get an early bus back. If you wait until the end, you may be waiting 45-60 min for a bus. At least you are under heaters while you wait.

So breathtakingly beautiful. Runs are lovely, coming from a (just above) beginner. The group lesson in the morning (10.20am) was helpful and they will split you according to your level. Although, we were made to walk up the hill a lot since the magic carpet was super busy, which considering how much you have to pay for the lift pass is a bummer. The food is really good too.

We had an amazing time at Remarkables. There was plenty of snow everywhere. The roads are well maintained and staff will help you with chains if you are unsure about how to put them on. There is plenty of carparking at different levels. If you are going during the busy ski season then be prepared to walk far away and walk uphill in snow. The better option is to park the car at mountain base parking and catch a shuttle that takes you right at the top to the event centre. There are options to ski for all levels of skills. They also provide lessons for people that are starting out with option to rent ski gear.
J. L.
It was a great ski resort, but if it's your first time to ski make sure you landed on a good and experienced instructor. The ski instructor our family ended up with, Ella, was young and enthusiastic, but she wasn't a good teacher. Most of our group didn't stay for the afternoon lessons because they felt they weren't learning as fast as those in the other groups, who learned enough to graduate to the higher slopes. Although our instructor was obviously a good skier she wasn't a good teacher, and it felt like a big waist of money.

This is a family friendly ski field in Queenstown. The base facilities are very well designed, clean and user friendly. The cafe is great serving a good range of cooked food. Expect a bit more expansive food as it’s up on a mountain. Recommend you take the ski bus up so you can enjoy the view along the way. The drivers are always funny and helpful. The staff are friendly and helpful.
K.
Some great terrain for beginners and novices to get comfortable and build up confidence quickly! Beautiful area too.
N.
First time on the snow and did a group lesson with Matthis he was awesome and delt with the different group abilities very well.
C. G.
Great ski field with a great layout for all levels. Our family spans all levels and we have enjoyed it thoroughly.
Great staff. These people really make the difference. Happy, helpful and build an attitude across all of us to share the space and have fun.
Equipment hiring is pretty simple, made easier by the staff. We just picked up our great each morning and dropped it back each night. No real penalty on time that I couldn't think would be just as bad as getting all the stuff in the car or bus.
Lessons were great. Highly recommended for enjoying the skiing more. All levels catered to and easy on the day. Kids really well looked after including teens.
The drive up wasn't too onerous. 4wd recommended and you have to carry and maybe use chains. Luckily someone will drive slowly so there is no rush and only the last section is dirt. It doesn't take long so again, don't rush!
M. L.
Great for beginners! Quite a few different slopes with varying difficulties. The hike up Shadow Basin to the peak is fantastic! Amazing views over Queenstown centre. Highly recommend spending at least 3 days at these fields to get the hang of it and really enjoy the different tracks. Sugar Bowl is great once you've mastered Alta.
B.
I took the kids for their first ski lessons and got one for myself as well. The ski instructors were great, especially Izzy. Very friendly and great ski lesson. We were on the chair lift to a higher slope within an hour.
J. K.
Fantastic ski area! Love the beginnings slope- lots of space for the kids to learn and a magic carpet is nice and simple to get up. Yummy food in the restaurant fairly expensive ($10 for plate of chips) but that's to be expected on the mountain. The adults have also had a great time exploring the whole mountain with the older kids too.
S. E. D.
This is a great place to come and ski or just to enjoy the natural wonders of the world.
I've been here twice and the services are great, the people friendly and inviting.
The instructor we had was very helpful and anyone that can get my wife skiing in under 2hrs deserves a big wrap!
M.
Perfect for beginners and intermediate skiiers and snowboarders. Wonderfully close the central Queenstown as well. There is plenty of parking at 9-10am and frequent shuttle buses if you are not one to drive. We didn't require chains on both trips! Bring your own lunch and drinks because the cafe is $$$.
S. A.
Great place, excellent for skiing or boarding. This ski field in particular is very well suited and is one of the best ski fields for beginners all the way through to the advanced. covered magic carpet, easy slower chair lift with longer very wide runs and gradual decent for beginners. large space and variety of slops and jumps for Intermediate. Advanced slopes and shoots for experienced expert.
If you find this comment helpful please give like. enjoy your day.
J. M.
Lots of runs to hit for all different abilities. Snow was pretty decent quite early in the year. If you love some park there's a whole run dedicated to some big jumps and grinds. Overall mean ski field with unreal views.

Great terrain. Amazing views from the top. Good range of slopes to ski, from beginner to expert

We had a great 4 days at this versitile mountain. Had fun with lots of little jumps, rails, boxes and hills for beginners, they also catered well for advanced riders. There were some of smooth, gentle groomed runs, great for learning, but also no shortage of more difficult runs. Facilities were good, the large eating area means you can always find a spot to sit down and eat. It's a smaller mountain, but as they say, good things come in small packages.
O.
Good service for buses and transport.
Food signage and ordering could have been more clear as its a every man for himself environment.
Hire gear is all in excellent condition but again no direction.
Worth the time spent at the ski resort.
Otherwise much fun spent.
Note: Dont supply goggles through hire so will need glasses or own goggles
M. C.
Beautiful ski field with large beginner ski area. Staffs are very helpful and friendly. You need to walk on stairs to go up to the ski fields so becareful when going downstairs with ski boots. P.S. I like their fish n chips yum
E. C.
Be prepared for the steep winding road up the mountains (20 mins). Was feeling giddy and nauseous driving up. Would have been better if there is a easier way up. Ski slopes were great for beginners, although not all slopes are open yet.
C. M.
As beginner skiers we loved this place. They had many options for beginners and good facilities. Low on snow but there was enough on the beginner routes. A very fun time.
M.
Most expensive ski meal I've ever had (including Heavenly). Portions were too big.
The resort is well maintained and run efficiently. Buying a lift ticket at the base lodge was easy. Parking is a bit of nightmare though, catch the bus if you have the option.
A. A.
The ski slopes are great. Would have given more stars if they didn't start stacking chairs at 3:15pm. Makes you feel unwelcome. I would have purchased another drink or two.
s. l.
Absolutely world class ski field. The views are amazing and this place can never disspaoint anyone. There is something for everyone here. Even for the beginners. The cafe is huge and caters to so many people and has an extensive menu. We totally loved this place. It's really great and highly recommended.
t.
Pretty large ski field, great for beginner-immediate.
The highlight has to be whole left side of the mountain which is covered in terrain parks, definitely a positive.
Remarkables are also close to Queenstown which is convenient.
However if you're not into terrain parks and are intermediate to advanced, the runs might be a bit boring and Coronet Peak might suit you better.
C.
Good facilities, friendly staff, food at the cafe was yummylicious. Plenty of carparks and there are buses provided as well. Loved the magic carpet tunnels. They have kids and adults ski and snowboarding lessons and private lessons. Would be awesome if there were areas for toboggan and snow mobile rides.
A.
My kids loved the ski school. Full day session is from 10am to 4pm. Parents can enjoy their ski time as well. The instructors are so professional and kind. They take good care of the kids and provide details of the progress.

There is absolutely no question why the mountains are named The Remarkables. It was truly stunning. The ski field was awesome. There were people everywhere to help inexperienced skiers like me and give advice to more experienced skiers such as my partner. Staff helped us with our snow chains (thank god!) The amenities were nice and clean. Food was a lot more reasonably priced then we were expecting (which is remarkable again)
G. D.
Big wide open flat runs here, with areas for jumps and tricks - don’t miss out.
Today the base is hard with soft dry man made powder on top, no queues, car park 1 only filling around midday. Sealed road almost to the top, but quite winding and without barriers in some spots.
Compared to Coronet Peak, while still spectacular views it doesn’t quite match the variety of scenery and natural terrain. Beginners area though is more extensive, and the flat wide groomed slopes give plenty of room for improving technique.
The advanced area looks amazing with a lot of custom made areas for pros - sheer flat inclines, multiple big jumps, plenty of trick infrastructure.
Similarly all the facilities are top notch, groovy ice bar and good shuttle service.
Between here and Coronet Peak, can’t really say one is better than the other, as both cater to all and have their pluses.
E. M.
Such an incredible view from up there! The bus system was pretty good for us (didn't have much of an issue compared to others) -can organise to pick up/drop off to most hotels. Fairly expensive to ski which is expected I guess? Some staff seeme stressed in the rental equipment area which showed.. No designated area to just play with snow
C.
The Remarkables are remarkable! Great set up. Huge cafe so that everyone can find a seat. Good food and coffee. Typical mountain prices. You can take your own food if you want to save money. They have self assist lockers which work really well. Staff are super friendly and happy. Such an awesome ski resort. We will definitely be back.
M.
It's our first time to be in this area, the staff are very helpful especially for us as beginners. The training staff were so patient in teaching my son, one trainer provided my son a goggles free of charge. I really appreciate their help, we'll be back probably during school holidays.
R. S.
Practicing slopes were quite flat in comparison to some other skii resorts but access to runs are many.
Food was good but quite pricey for Queenstown (not nessecarily for a skii resort) 10.00 NZD for hefty chips and 6.00NZD for a coke.
I took lessons and found the instructor very attentive and concerned with everyone's individual needs. Group lessons range from ability level 1 to 6? They are 1020am and 2pm for a full day lessons in one day can be big but worth it if you're just starting out. I practised one day with my partner (he showed me some basics of boarding to get me passed the lesson 1) then jumped straight to lesson 2.5 which was great!
Great access to slopes and even had to utilise the Medical services and got a refund on my afternoon snow lesson (with a medical cert from the medical hut).
Parking is TIGHT but manageable to get out of the car park at the end of the day, the parking lads do a great job. The drive up might not require chains (but they're legally required in nz in the car). We have a 4wd so haven't needed them.
Service and care from the workers are definitely high. I felt supported and informed when turning to a Staff member for help or even advice and found great enjoyment watching the magic carpet or escalator staff dance and enjoy themselves.
Will be back and especially during a visit to Queenstown!
Y. P.
Visiting this place was worth during our visit to Queenstown. Surprisingly it was not that cold up there. Must visit here. But the trolley guys were not explaining about the process to get on and off on the trolley. Literally we have to jump to get on the trolley. My friend got hurt while getting on the trolley. Neither they checked that we have our safety bars are there or not. Finally while getting off I told them to stop the trolley thus we can get off
m. f.
Awesome experience at the remarks.
Our first day was a powder day which was the best day we had in NZ.
Great slopes for anyone beginning or for anyone more advanced.
Would recommend this ski field to anyone wanting a ski or board.
Z. S.
Loved this place. So many good runs, nice open intermediate runs. There was no snow on the day we went (previous night) but they made snow and according to another, the volume of snow was the same as when they previously had a nights snow. In other words don't fret If it did not snow last night. The runs are bound to be great and powdery.
B. U.
Came up using the shuttle service from town which was really convenient. It was handy buying the ski pass and bus pass in town so I could just head straight to the lifts when I arrived.
The snow is decent, particularly in the higher areas. I found that the snow on the sugar bowl chair to be really nice. The trails around the shadow basin were also quite nice. There was also a lookout at the top of the shadow basin chair which looks out onto Queenstown. Be wary that it requires a short trek to the lookout and riding down requires a fair level of skill.
The cafe at the base is quite nice. One side has more expensive food like steak sandwich while the other has cheaper options like loaded kumara fries and pies. Fairly large dining area inside and out.
With the buses, they start heading back down to the station from 1.30pm. Really nice place to spend the day.
J.
We had an awesome day at this ski field. Our instructor was Kate. She was very patient and knowledgeable and we left with a lot more confidence and experience. All staff here are super chilled, friendly and willing to help.
L. W.
New facilities. Very well maintained, very clean toilets, good coffee.
Good hire equipment, with staff happy to help fit it.
Beginners magic carpet lift very close to the cafe building and there is a wide beginners area.
Only four chair lifts and there isn't a huge range of runs for intermediate skiers.
Great road up to field with fabulous views. Ski field is in a bowl and weather can be quite different from Coronet Peak.
C. B.
Well organised, friendly, helpful pleasant staff. A bit costly for non skiers, parent helpers on school trips at $30 for one return trip on a lift. But I guess it's over shadowed by the joy of the children having fun. Great day in all.
H. H.
What a great walk up to Lake Alta! Was gutted to leave my drone controller behind after falling from my camera bag but the trip was enjoyable regardless. The walk was rather easy and not too cold until the summit. Would love to do again and take my 10 year old next season.
D.
A really well thought out resort with a great variety of runs for beginner-intermediate boarders/skiers. Make sure to get in nice and early as the early morning drive is worth it and you can get some great photo opportunities coming back before sunset.
S. H.
I enjoyed my ski experience there. The fields were wide and could accommodate many people. Driving up can be daunting. Many turns on a narrow road. Sometimes, the morning sun may be shining right at your eye and you cannot see what’s ahead. Those fearful of mountain driving should consider parking at the base and take the free shuttle up. Be prepared to queue for the bus though.
S. L.
First of all, I really enjoyed skiing in this ski resort, especially it's my first time coming here. I stayed at the beginners area most of the time but I still find this very exciting! The only negative thing about this experience is that I lost my wallet which has my passport and money. I reported to the guest service centre at the mountain and at CBD snow centre. I thought it would be lost forever since I might have lost it when I was skiing so I had to return to Australia without a passport. Thankfully, about one week after I left Queenstown, they contacted me saying that they have found my wallet which has both the passport and money intact! From here, I really appreciate the staff's effort in finding my wallet and contacting me for that. The guest services were planning to mail my wallet back, but they said they couldn't mail the money back to Australia. It turns out they are happy to deposit the money into the company's account and transfer it into my account. Once again, I want to thank them for the amount of effort they have put! :) I would totally recommend coming here and if you lost something in the ski resort (hopefully no one will experience anything like me), I would guarantee that they can find it for you!
S. D.
Food and coffee was canny, views were spectacular. I didn't get to go on the slopes after recent dislocated shoulder but my dad went on beginners slope and loved it. Staff didn't seem as happy and friendly as most places we have visited in nz although the girls on the tills were lovely and smiley.
j. c.
The Remarkables is now my favourite ski area. Love the wide open runs and the when you are ready the access to more demanding runs. Food at the cafe is good as are the facilities. It's relaxed with friendly staff.
t. g.
This mountain is absolutely phenomenal, whether you're an advanced skier or prefer to hit up the park, the options you have up there are not scarce! Definitely prefer this over coronet peak if you are of higher skill levels.
H. J.
Fun time for a non-snow sporter! Went with 2 friends and we got the sightseeing pass up the chairlift. Were planning on walking to the top but there was heaps of cloud cover. Had a great (and freezing!) time just staying near the top of the chairlift. Would recommend, and take all your woolies with you!
M. H.
Nice slope shut definitely less of an interesting mix and variety. There are a lot of intermediate slopes which aren’t very entertaining and then very difficult ones. There is no real middle ground. Comparatively to Coronet Peak - it’s a lot less varied. It’s great for snowboarders due to the size of the slopes but for skiers it’s not the best. Beautiful views as everywhere in the area but doesn’t beat Coronet Peak.
J.
There's lots of fun to be had at the Remarkables. We were a group of 2 intermediate, 1 advanced and managed to find enough great runs to keep us busy for a couple of days. If there was no snow, it would get boring pretty quickly. That said, you can always fall back to the park, which is varied enough to keep just about all levels busy. There are a few cutouts, rollers and small drops around the place to have some fun with or without snow.
We managed to get powder day and with a bit of exploring got fresh lines all day. That's pretty rare for a hill of this size as it usually gets tracked out quickly. Maybe it was just a quiet day, but with a bit of traversing or minimal hiking, a lot of fresh tracks were made.
If you're a beginner, there's plenty here for you too.
Oh, and get the loaded kumara wedges.
N.
3 hours from Sydney, and a hundred times better than Australian skiing (of course Australia does hot and better beaches)...
9 or 10 runs, good crispy snow and beautiful sunshine.
Happy!!
J. M.
The remarkables was my first snow field and I still love it. They usually have the most runs open in early season, and the base camp is fairly well equipped. The mountain is overall pretty good for beginners.
A.
A very long winding road up the mountain with many hairliqne and steep side drops. The wife wasn't too happy but on the way there were many viewpoints to stop at. The tarmac road ended 9km before the ski resort that is On the other side of the mountain so we turned back as I didn't want to cause any damage to the hire car. Well worth the trip to see Queenstown from the other side.
C.
So good to visit however drive up and down was tense for first time. Once at top it was really good to sit sit, watch and have a coffee. Recommend to drive to the conditions and speed limits.

With the new Sugar Bowl lift now open there is a good deal of varied terrain for intermediate and Advanced skiing and riding.

For New Zealand its probably good. Certainty no where near a world class resort. The outdoor ice bar is cool, with good view. Restuarant is fairly standard. Lovely staff.

It's the end of the season and there's still plenty of snow here. The staff are friendly and there's a course for everyone. Even if you don't snowboard or ski, you could easily experience the snow here by sledding or just riding the bus up and down the mountain as the views are phenomenal on a clear day.
S.
Nice ski area with everything you need for every skill level.
G. R.
Great ski area good for all levels. Don’t expect lots of kms of sopra though, this is not Italian Alps. Despite the crowd of school holidays the facility is so well thought through there’s barely any queue. Good renting equipment there so you can leave it and not having to carrying it up and down every day. A couple of things to consider: it’s expensive (hence 4 stars) and everything is at a premium; you’re probably better off bringing your own food which you can leave in a bag outside the restaurant like most people do; bus from/to town: It’s $20 a day per person and you need to be smart with times to avoid the huge queues; renting a car might be better.
We will be back!
A.
Good for beginners as the area is well organized with the magic carpet. Then the "restaurant" area offers different range of food not much more expensive than in town. Simple and small mountain but enough to enjoy a day in the snow.
I.
Remarkable place to ski. You can take shuttle bus or drive here by yourself, you only need to notice the snow or black ice on the road (If weather is bad).
I drive by myself and feel very ok.
I am a beginner and sign up a beginner class. Teacher is kind. I have a lot fun today.
M.
The Remarkables is a must ski for any avid skiier in or visiting New Zealand with some of the best snow I've found consistently on any South Island field. Fresh powder on and off piste with a huge range of runs over the field for all skill levels.
Parks are killer up sugar bowl with plenty of options from beginner to advanced with jumps boxes and poles of varying difficulty.
Highly recommend a relatively unfound run that gets almost no traffic but is hands down my favourite run on the field, The Stash. It has some advanced poles and boxes and gorgeous powder finishing with a steep run with a huge runoff so you can pick up mad speed with plenty of room to stop. Also a killer table on that runoff to have lunch on a nice day (see photos).
Chairs are all very comfy with leg rests on the main lifts but not sugar bowl.
This field is a privilege to ski and on a quiet day is one of my favourite fields I've skiied with definitely my favourite run I've skiied. I highly recommend checking it out especially with it's easy access from the Queenstown/Frankton area
G.
Great place nice friendly staff great facilities nice coffee/food. Carpark buses worked well didn't have to wait long. Bearing in mind we did a late morning start which worked out so much better almost no queuing at all. Probably one of the most beautiful places on earth and when you match that with great staff you have a winning combination.

NOVICE SKIIER... SO THIS REVIEW IS LEGIT
Had a wild day of the slopes! Out of peak season, so there was lots of room to go slow.
By the end of the day, I was carving up the blue runs - go me!
The restaurants were wayyy better than I expected. Not as expensive as I thought and the coffee was drinkable.
I had high expectations of this ski adventure, and it beat it. The lift passes meant everyone moved to where they wanted to go quickly.
Stoked with the day!
P. C.
Huge yes. Beautiful area although the choice of lifts and slopes is very limited. Awesome skiing conditions especially in the morning (clear skies) and cloudy in the afternoon. Most pistes very well prepared
M. S.
I didn't go up here when the building was open. My visit was to walk the track upto Lake Alta. Beautiful views and crystal clear Lake. Best seen when it's snowy. There is a clean toilet in the car park! Well done.
C.
So good to visit however drive up and down was tense for first time. Once at top it was really good to sit sit, watch and have a coffee. Recommend to drive to the conditions and speed limits.
R.
That was my first time to ski, joined a 1-day starter package and that was absolutely not enough! Because it was too much fun :).
One more thing, I worried the restaurant's menu will be expensive before I go but turn out I was wrong, the price was just like in Queenstown, so needn't trouble about that.
J. V.
The new lift has opened up some better terrain. Homeward bound is still a stunning run especially in spring snow.Views as great as ever and the base complex is of an international standard.
C. A.
Great ski field ! My only issue is getting up to it. The buses from town and from the bottom of the hill are far too expensive and driving up is such a hassle even with a 4wd when you have to put chains on. It would be great if they had a gondolas from the bittow or free/cheap buses to get up there.
A. C.
Oh! The Remarkables! One of the very few mountain ranges in the world that run true north-south. Good quality snow, plenty of runs for the beginner and intermediate skiiers, plenty of food and drink choices at the restaurant, cafe and bar, rentals, repairs, lockers, souvenirs, free car park shuttles and, of course, spectacular views on the way to and back from the mountain.
L. K.
As a beginner I found this ski area a bit challenging plus I went on a day where visibility was poor as it was snowing the whole time. Very steep and windy road up to the snow fields. Would go back when I’m more experienced
A. B.
Good facilities, mostly friendly and helpful staff. Easy access road, plenty of lifts. Just need a bit more snow. Took two hours to get back to queenstown as traffic was backed up from bridge to 5km up access road.
E.
Wonderful set up, prices are steep as any ski resort, but they charge for hot water in cup noodles or tea also witch it a bit much but otherwise a lovely place.
J. K.
So gorgeous, the drive up there alone is spectacular. Federico was our instructor for a private lesson, he was so friendly and encouraging. Super vibe.
P.
Nice and small ski resort, good for the options down in south hemisphere. A bit expensive day pass, season on presale not bad, very expensive shuttle bus and if you wanna go with your car on weekend be there really early as the car parks are getting full very soon. Good restaurant, extra charge for takeaway cups (coffe, chocolate), food alright, small portions for that money.
Do not expect much snow up there, only couple time in winter there is more snow out of the slopes.
People and staff are great, always helpfull, smiley.
Worth visit.
More fun for snowboardes, well maintened snow park and changed during the season.
E. G.
Was here during summer time and I loved it. Not much action because it is a Ski resort but the views and the hikes were amazing. Lots of beautiful scenery. Best natural places in Queenstown.
En verano este lugar es magnífico y bello. Se ve un poco de nieve aún.
J. S.
The staff there just can't be more helpful. I accidentally took the lift to the advanced slope but actually it was my first time to ski. I slipped for several times and I could hardly stand up by myself on the slope. One of the staff noticed that and he helped me out of the dilemma. Just wanna say thank you so much!
N. A.
Great snowfield for the intermediate skier. Would think twice before going for full day group lessons. Fantastic instructors but a poor process for sorting levels at the beginning and zero re-sorting to push you up a level. If you start at intermediate (3b) you won't progress. Better to do half day lessons and practice what you learnt in the afternoon... or a single group lesson to get your ski-legs back and then a private lesson.
N.
Not the best ski conditions, many small crowded runs, due to its target market it does attract some snowboarders who don't quite understand that sitting down in the middle of a busy run is not ok. Its a while from queenstown but it has beautiful views.
s.
For New Zealand its probably good. Certainty no where near a world class resort. The outdoor ice bar is cool, with good view. Restuarant is fairly standard. Lovely staff.
K.
Learners area and staff excellent for Novice skiers such as my family
J.
Easy access with a hotel pickup, why drive???
The Ski Bus was great with a hotel pickup at $30 presented great value where you dress in your gear ready to go, bring your skis or board, throw it in the bus and let the driver take care of the rest. Return trips every 15 mins dropped off to my hotel...again why drive?
Road up is unsealed and technical in a normal car in iced conditions. AWD makes the difference.
Resort has a great layout with downstairs where you enter to sort the logistics of the day and upstairs for the eating and entertainment. Food is at resort prices like everything on a ski field. Bring a day pack with snacks and a drink.
Actual ski field? Great layout with not many lifts so quite easy the get around with anything downhill and you will end up back at the resort base.
Snow conditions were interesting with the beginners area quite firm and hard to get your legs in with. Just jump on the carpet and go up the bunny easy chair top of that. Some nice gentle runs down the middle of the field.
Up the very top near double cone its technical but not too hard. Great progression area. For those more adventurous at the top, the climb to the ridge and steep slash in some deep pow is a must. Just take it slow and step right getting up top as it's out of resort area.
The sugar bowl area is prob the best of the bunch giving a cool park riding area with not a lot of features, lots of jumps and some good slopes to run around on with options.
The free ski pow area on the right (heading down the sugar bowl) is the best play area by far. 5 stars.
Overall total resort I'd say it's a 1-2 day visit at most. Go try the other areas like Cadrona etc too.
Cool little food truck trailer near the top of the main. Chair a great place to take a break.
Overall it's a great place to play but I got bored with it after 2 days and went elsewhere. Still worth a definite visit though. Well setup with nice lift people.
I will say the back country area other side of double cone I could have played in for a week! Ah-mazing! Split board it so you can get around though. Limitless day options with a quick traverse back into the Rem ski area end of the day.
K. O.
Best ski field in the area for beginners in my opinion!! good views too. Bus queue is a joke though, I would book a private company and not theirs. Although the bus claims to be ever 30 mins and about 35 mins in distance, I recon the average wait time is an hour! Try to go early to avoid this, once we waited an hour and only got half way through the queue before bailing for the day... I think go orange or kiwi experience may offer their own bus services??
I overheard from the staff something along the lines of 7 buses being used for private charter that day as their was more money in it, and that was on a different day from the day we bailed. Hopefully that's not a regular thing but I feel like it is!
M.
Great ski field, went during the week at the end of July and not too busy at all. Barely had to line up for one lift :) snow quality good enough and facilities were nice and clean.
D.
Queenstown's best ski area especially up top from the Sugar Bowl lift where you can find a series of progressive jumps from beginner to monster!
Catering is pretty good with a wide variety of options on offer which despite the enormous demand were always well cooked and wel stocked. Or you can get a pretty decent hot dog at the ice bar at the bottom of "Centurion" (go left from the top of Curvey Basin lift) and enjoy the stunning views back down the valley.
Queues for the lifts are pretty much guaranteed when it's busy but they do move pretty fast and are marshalled well. Only downside is Sugar Bowl lift is long and slow and could really do with an upgrade. I'm pretty sure it's the same as it was when I first visited some 15 years back! It is also vulnerable to wind and so gets put on "wind hold' from time to time which cuts out the best bits of the ski field and makes the rest of the runs very crowded.
Parking is an issue so get there early if you don't want to queue for the shuttle service up to the slopes which can be quite a long wait from carpark 4 especially, and if you ski till the lifts close be prepared for a substantial wait to get a shuttle back down (carpark 4 is not in walking distance).
Also worth noting that it's a 40 minute drive from Queenstown and the last few k's are on a dirt road so if you're hiring a car go for a 4wd and make sure you're carrying chains as the 2wd's stop at carpark 4 when the road is snowy and even the 4wd's are required to carry chains. As an option you can park at the very bottom of the approach road and bus it to the top.
All in all its a great resort, kid friendly with enough varied terrain to challenge most levels and definitely worth a visit for the stunning views even if you're not a skier it boarder.
And sorry for the photos, they don't really do it justice as the snow cover was a bit thin early season.
p.
We loved skiing here, all the staff were great .if you have been skiing before your better off getting the full lift pass and just practicing yourself rather than getting lessons as some people progress faster than others and your then stuck in the same group
S.
Slopes werent fully open when I came but nevertheless it was amazing. Highly recommend the Shadow Basin chairlift for any blue slopers. Very few people compared to Curvy basin, just as long if not longer with more wide steep slopes. Very nice.
C.
I had a great time with my first visit in Remarkables Ski Area.Good vibe up there.Staff members were very kind and friendly
Thank you the instructor Tian Tian for the first lesson.
I appreciated the private instructor - Altika's from Canada. She was very patient, supportive and knowledgeable !
Highly recommend any beginners like to to take the private lesson with Altika !
O.
Solid runs for beginners to intermediates. Lack of smoking area is abit of a bummer of you're into that kinda thing. Food is pricey but the bistro does churn out some quality stuff.
F. B.
Best ski area in Queenstown. Really cool off-piste lines if you hike a little. The side-piste is also pretty cool. Some great natural features like a natural bowl to play around in. Great for jumps with three lines of different sized jumps. Park features like rails/boxes are a little limited but are present. Cafe and other facilities are pretty much the same as every other ski field in nz and shouldn't be a deciding factor when choosing where to ski anyway! The three peak season pass gives access to the remarks, coronet and my Hutt so it's a good choice even if you're staying in Queenstown the entire season.
R. M.
Great ski field with nice wide and open runs, and a good mix for beginners and intermediate skiers. Weather's pretty stable, and when it's clear and sunny this place lives up to its name!
A. M.
Not all the field was open but the snow was good. Cafe has great food.
C.
I am by no means a professional skiier or snowboarder but the remarkables just seem to offer really nice ski options for the middle to high level skiier. There is one negative though and you will need to take this seriously. The trip up the mountain is by bus if you have a package like I did and you will need to close your eyes and not look down the massive dead drop as your coming up the mountain. It is harrowing but I am told very safe...fingers crossed
W. C.
Fantastic slopes for many ski levels from beginner to more advanced levels. Many different styles of courses to keep things interesting. Great place to go for first time skiiers after gaining experience at coronet peaks. Food is great and good value for what you get with many varieties as well. The Japanese pork katsu curry rice and the remarkables roast with crispy pork belly were great
L.
Good ski area. The runs aren’t as fun as coronet but the quality of the snow is higher. Definitely some good powder that allows you to cut into the powder well. Would return
L.
Excellent snowboarding although a little crowded to be expected on a Saturday during school holidays, I suppose. Customer service was excellent providing tips on ordering drinks and food at the best time. Only issue was the random half pipe next to torquise run wich was not expected or on the map, all the same providing an interesting interlude for an almost intermediate snowboarder. if only i'ld watched how to half pipe on a snowboard on YouTube before I found myself inadvertently in the half pipe.
A. N.
We had the time of our lives!! We went during school holidays but the key is getting up to the field early. It pays to shop around if you don't own your own gear, but we went with the ski field hire this time.
J.
A modern ski resort. Staff is helpful and friendly. Routes may be lack of varity if you are a experienced skiier or snowboarder.
By the way, I would like to show my appreciation to the staff who helped me to find my lost action cam. The cam worth nothing but the sd card inside stored a lot of my good memory clips. Thanks a lot guys!
J. R.
Very impressive mountain... those who love to get the feeling of driving to a steap slopy mountain and drive above the clouds they must come to this area. Once you are on the way to drive to the top you will have three stops where the sight view can be seen and beautiful scenery for photo opportunity. Must drive slow so the other passangers can take a moment to enjoy the views.
M. i. N. Z.
Great place to ski but note make sure you have chains at all times! You cant hey up the mountain unless u have a 4 wheel drive
M.
Despite the harrowing drive up/down to get there, the terrain was varied and fun to ski. Skiing in summer in a beautiful setting makes up for some of the more primitive aspects.
D.
What a beautiful city Queenstown is. Amazing place to take the kids for their first skiing holiday. Hired a car, carried chains (never used them being in a 4wd), very easy to get around especially as we downloaded google maps before we left. Never a problem getting up the mountain.
TIP- Leave early to get in the top carpark.
At the airport we all got NZ sim cards for our phones so we always could find the kids on the mountain. Loads of places to eat and drink, two large supermarkets in Frankton to stock up.
Remarkables ski fields are brilliantly set up. The instructors are just the best. Special mention to Pete who helped my son Mack have the best day snow boarding and Lise (Lisa) for me, so patient helping "Captain Slow" down the mountain.
TIP - you can use the overnight storage if you don't won't to go through the palaver of collecting you hire equipment each day and hire a locker for the entire time to leave goggles/gloves etc.
The restaurant and Cafe have a great selection of hot, cold, healthy and yummy food albeit a little pricey. We did take our own lunch a couple of times. However as part of the kids lessons they received lunch and snacks all day.
There's a Corona bar at the top of the mountain my teenager informs me but apparently I'll never see it if I stick to beginner runs.
S.
The Ski area is amazing for all the winter activities, like skiing.
It's an amazing place, while reaching here is also adventurous here,
It's a superb drive from queenstown to here.
At the same time the view from here of queenstown city is amazing.
M.
First time skiing at the Remarkables. Great for beginners if you have never skied before. Cost of food and nks are expensive bring your own food and drinks up if you can.
J.
It’s been quite a few years since I’ve been here. The facilities are excellent, there are good runs for skiers of all abilities. The staff from the lifts into the restaurant are friendly and engaged.
Well worth a visit.
N. v. R. v. O.
Great drive up, just a pity they don't cater for summer visitors very well. Would be great to have a chairlift running in summer, like they do at nearby Coronet Peak.
J.
With the new Sugar Bowl lift now open there is a good deal of varied terrain for intermediate and Advanced skiing and riding.
L.
Fantastic place for skiing and snowboarding. Easy to get there by bus, equipment can be rented right at the mountain station. I had almost no wait at all of the lift stations.
R.
I've been on a unique bucket list quest - to ski every continent with a ski lift. I've skied, and travelled, the world, & I whole heartedly say that Queenstown, this ski resort, New Zealand, & New Zealanders are the most remarkable on earth. I want to retire here!! The skiing was great, once you get used to the shorter runs. A thrill-junky's paradise. Amazing!!
I.
Excellent spot for beginners with some good challenging tracks for intermediate and expert levels when there is good snow coverage. Great facilities and staff although 3 of the 4 lifts are pretty slow.
J.
Awesome ski area, great food but I prefer Coronet Peak. The Remarkables is still good though.
J. H.
We had a great day skiing at Remarkables. They had a special deal for local customers and I really enjoyed it. Good customer service. Friendly staff. Nice meals in a café. Clean bathroom.
K.
Good long runs, very cool tunnel cover for the beginnings moving carpet lift, great for beginners n families. Beautiful!
T.
One of the Best experiences I've had in my life, skiboarding was so much fun the view from the mountains simply breathe taking!
D.
This is a great ski area, and the base building is impressive. Also great access to Double Cone mountain for climbing. Ice climbing also hood at Lake Alta.
S. M.
The Remarkables Ski resort is perfect for all levels. Easy access on the regular 20 minute shuttle from pretty much anywhere in Queenstown aside from the starting point Snow Info centre.
P.
Fantastic place for first timers and for the more advanced snowboarders/skiiers. Instructors were incredibly friendly, as well as informative. Would come back here again!
K.
Simple exquisite, good value, great place to spend the day unforgettable experiences here highly recommended!
J. W.
Beautiful mountain to ski on, slopes are a little steep for beginners, tho that might change depending on when you come :)
N.
I am not a skier but the facilities seem great for skiers & snow boarders alike. Today was a spectacular day with 20cm fresh snow overnight. Great for snow shoeing.
D. F. D.
Absolutely amazing experience, truely Remarkable views and landscape up in the mountains. The ski slopes cater for all levels of experience and the amenities are perfect.
T. L.
A must do for sightseeers. Driveable for adequate to good drivers. Hire snow boots, take a chairlift up the mountain then a short walk up to jaw dropping world class views .
R.
Safe and easy drive up the mountain doesn't take long at all to get there very well worth going up there and being with the clouds and looking down on Queenstown and the whole of the area it's simply a stunning place to go typically New Zealand just pull off the side of the road a few minutes out of Queenstown and carefully drive up and navigate the corners corners really amazing
C.
Great terrain. Amazing views from the top. Good range of slopes to ski, from beginner to expert
K.
Stunning scenery and great facilities.
The whole process from booking, collecting rentals and getting out on to the slopes was easy, even for complete first-timers.
D.
Nice ski slope - good if are not really interested in skiing and just want to take the kids to go sledging
A.
Great slopes. Staff were really helpful, the runs were set up for beginners to advanced. Great place to learn or leave the learners behind.
A. M.
While not the largest resort this resort has great views and is usually not that busy. In a good snow year there is heaps of terrain for advanced riders
K. M.
Such a great ski field but very crowded. The snow was great. It was our first time seeing the snow great experience.
M. T.
Awesome place. Great to just hang even if not skiing. We took kids to play in snow..
J.
Brilliant transport from carpark 4, wonderful facilities/food. Vegetarian pies suited us! Kids love the sugar basin jumps.
C.
Nice lifts and slopes. Base building is really spacious. Delicious mulled wine and mulled Ginger bear perfect to warm up with.
I. M.
Views for days.. Reamarkables provides some phenomenal views (if you're willing to work for them) there's a viewing platform at the top of shadows chairlift that looks towards queenstown/kingston. It takes about 15-20mins to hike, refer to photo provided. Queenstown must do 🤟 NZski staff are always on a good buzz aswell #goodvibesallround
A.
I have only been there I summer, so the lifts and the restaurant were closed. But there are beautiful walks to go to and also beautiful views everywhere. From the drive to the highest point of the mountains.
m.
Improved so much since I wad last here. The new head quarters us state of the art, massive with plenty of space and options and right at the base of all your runs. Loved it
G.
Great field, epic cafe, nice people.
K. B.
Nice slopes, line up at numbered flags if you have booked a package with lessons, number 1 for first lesson, beginner/intermediate/advanced/expert/extreme levels
P.
Small ski area (when compared to Nth American ski areas) but masses of off-piste to explore. It's the highest mountain in Queenstown i.e. generally better snow conditions.
M.
Always a great experience. Such a great drive getting up there. Cafe is good and make sure you get the central Otago Pinot mulled wine!
P.
Amazing mountain... but having a boom gate and access fee to a New Zealand mountain outdoor zone regardless of the rhetoric and reason is simply disgraceful!
A.
Great for families and the experienced. Fresh powder is not always to hand, but the runs are fun, varied and the base camp is well equipped.
Z.
Thanks for amazing One year wedding Aniversary..snowy, sunny, powdery day!! We made more amazing memories at the Ice bar today!!
s.
Great ski field and the best facilities with the most helpful friendliest staff!
L. M.
A great ski area. Lots of fun. In a basin or valley so you can see everything that is going on. Outstanding views. Great terrain park.
G.
First time there.Fantastic.Busy with new snow yesterday.29 Sept.Roll on snow, again ,last week School holidays.
N. B.
An easy drive with great facilities on the mountain including a cafe, lockers, ski lifts and a variety of ski runs to suit different skill levels.
K.
It seemed more relaxed than other ski areas. Snow base is not great so won't comment about the ski runs
H.
Stunning, amazing and really nice ski instructor. Thank you Magdalena from Poland we improved so much with your lovable attitude.
K.
Great ski area. Good beginners slopes that allow you enough space to test your ability.
R.
Great snowboarding park! Everything you need form beginners to advanced. Very helpful and understanding staff.
S.
Excellent facilities and rental capacity. Good equipment. Slightly better suited to intermediate and advanced skill levels than beginners.
n.
Better snow than Coronet peak. And not as crowded as in a typical ski season.
A.
We landed there in Spring.. Still we got some experience of snow.. The road goes up to the top and is well maintained
P. G.
Well worth a 7 K drive to 1620 metres, for a hit coffee and burger..
P. P.
The Remarkables in general were just great, the crew who worked there as instructors are great, patient and very supportive. Views are stunning.
M.
Very friendly staff and beautiful views. The tracks are not the longest, but you can have a lot of fun.
T.
Was a little cold but pretty good venue
B.
Great parks, wide runs and nice off piste. Nice service and staff. The snow is consistently good.
P.
Good beginners ski resort. Only one day lift, the other chair lifts are a bit slow
Y.
A very fun place to be! Especially during winter. Play with snow and they have restaurant too up there. Easy to access from city.
K.
Nice set up. Ski areas for all group types. Good amenities and large cafe and sitting area. Very assessable.
J.
My first snow experience! Late October it snowed up here, the ski park was closed but it didn't stop us from enjoying the fresh snow
M.
Christy is the best instructor ever. Skiing in that area is amazing. The food is great. And the cute guys as well 🤗
K. F.
The snow was good, the run are fun and accessible plenty for beginners and intermediate skiers.
S.
Looks amazing, new ski reception not complete yet but excited to see some tesla charging points!
S.
Great fun. Very busy but completely expected cause school holidays and sky season.
J. J.
Simply amazing! Great slopes and nice view once up the top. Just be aware of the overpriced cafes inside!
D. H.
Well worth the drive. Did the Lake Alta walk, lake is amazing and has cool views across to coronet peak and of Queenstown.
J.
Skiing there was great, but the place doesn't seem to be able to cater to the big crowds
A.
Great place to ski. Really good ski school for kids. They are well looked after all day with great instructors.
T.
Great range of runs for all ability levels even with poor snow. The park is one of the best in the area too!
J.
Best ski resort near Queenstown though like them all they lack lifts & t bars, good licensed bars and reasonably priced food.
A.
We went for sightseeing only and it was beautiful. The drive is dangerous though so be careful and have a good car.
H.
Beautiful views driving up. Great green runs for beginners. Divine pork ribs at restaurant!
F.
Awesome in a good season. But don’t hold your breath. Very small and short runs compared to what you get in Europe and Japan.
M. A.
Great field needs a bit more snow but plenty for a great day skiing and all staff were very helpful and delivered with a smile
T.
Hair raising drive up, road twists and turns right in side of mountain. Views of queenstown and sutronds are stunning. Worth the drive up
L.
We really enjoyed skiing here. A nice mix of terrain. No.lines!
P.
Love this ski field. The wilder side of Queenstown. The shadow chair takes you up to some amazing falline.
J.
Amazing area for snow and the slopes are just amazing. The view and snow experience is an must try experience!!!
F.
Terrible snow this season, half the mountain is unskiable but the ski new zealand website says everything is open, pretty misleading
J.
One of the best mountains in nz
K.
Fun, beautiful skill resort. Friendly mountain crew. Great private lesson, Luca was a great instructor.
D.
Great place to go winter or summer... Brilliant walk to lake alta to experience a real mountain environment...But be aware of the weather!
s.
These intermediate slopes are really good fun and not too busy, perfect for a relaxed day of skiing
K.
Loved visiting here, the view is spectacular and the kids had a blast
F. E.
Amazing couple of days up remarks. Endless opportunities here for all levels. Hike to the lookout for an insane view over all of Queenstown.
m.
Visited 3 times during my stay in Queenstown.
Amazing place, very nice routes. Definately coming back.
R.
What a good place to try skiing. They have variety spots for beginners and advanced.
L.
Picturesque views driving up. Stunning ski area and the restaurant has mouth watering ribs.
J.
Great new base facilities and the new 6 seat chair is great! The other chair lifts are painfully slow and are due an upgrade.
d.
Well I’m not a skiier so can’t comment on the ski field but oh what a drive up to it ..Awesum views..well worth checkin out this place..
M.
Great snow but overpriced food. Charge for lockers but other places don't. It's the little things
A. D. M.
Resort facilities are great, had an issue with a lift operator whose action caused a minor injury and the office 'manager' was condescending to my concerns, unimpressed with the way he handled the situation.
A. P.
Great snow field. New chair opens up more terrain and the new food outlets are good for on mountain food.
E.
A lit the bit small compared to other resorts however snow conditions are very good, and easy to access.
S. S.
One of the best ski fields in New Zealand, fantastic slopes...and great proximity thanks
A.
Snow, glorious snow! Ski lift for viewers amd skiiers alike. Hire equipment including boots. Long windy road up.
G.
Good terrain when they've got good snow cover and usually pretty efficient with car parking on busy days.
H.
Incredible. Just remember snow chains as you could, like us, have a near death sliding backwards down a snowy hill experience.
E.
Nice runs for beginners & intermediates. Needs good snow cover for the advanced runs
K.
A great place to take the family skiing, but not enough Beginner slopes for the learners
Z.
It have good runs for beginner to learn on. 😎🥶🤣
N. N.
I'd say its the second best of the top 3 mountains! Some days were a bit too icy but other days was powder galore!
R.
Great beginner ski area with updated world class facilities. Fantastic views of Queenstown
j.
Consistently good quality snow and good service. Have been coming here for 7+years. No regrets ever.
J. D.
We hit up 3-4 different resorts on the South Island and The Remarks was by far the best ski/snowboard experience!
M.
Great skiing and please remember that the entire facility is smoke free. That means NO smoking. Clear?
W.
wide open runs, lots of space. we caught the bus from queenstown, definitely go for this option as it’s a loooonnngg curvy way to the top.
J. N.
Love this place! Love the Curvey Basin run, they have lots of beginner slopes compared to Coronet.
G.
Our favourite family ski field. Beautiful landscapes of rock and snow so close to Queenstown.
