P.What an awesome cafe! We loved the setting, the quirky and delightful installations and the overall feel. The champagne afternoon tea was superb. Never had better. Surprisingly good savoury, unbelievablely beautiful sweets and wonderfully warm and soft scones with cream and jam. Top that off with a glass of kiwi sparkling wine and a lovely cup of tea and it's a pretty much perfect way to spend an afternoon. Service was perfect with friendly staff members making sure everything was right. Can't go wrong! The Eels are very cool too!
j.I highly recommend the Friday Feast. A superb meal. Certainly solves the problem of food envy! Well chosen, beautifully prepared food. Selections I would not have made on my own but so glad they were made for me! Will be making this a regular night out!

A.Beautiful lunch today, the food was amazing, I had the BLAT which was flavourful and filling, the bread was extremely fresh and perfectly salted. The chutney was to die for and I with I could have taken some with me! The home made lemonade was really nice and had a very traditional rate to it. The iced chocolate could of used more overall liquid, it was in a small glass and was mostly filled with ice cream so it turned into more of a dessert than a drink. The eels were really cool to and feeding them was pretty cool also. The overall atmosphere was amazing very calm and peaceful with heaps of places for the kids to run around and explore! Overall I love with this place and hope I will have the chance to come back some day!!
L.Great family spot nestled within a scenic garden as a beautiful backdrop to ones afternoon lunch. Lovely food and warm friendly hosts. Adventures to boot with the playground for the wee ones and an opportunity to feed the eels in the nearby brook. (A bit if a steep hill to get to the eels so watch your step).
A.This was a very nice stop on our way from Able Tasman NP to Nelson and I highly recommend everyone to plan a stop here. We enjoyed delicious sea food, wine, good coffee and nice freshly baked cakes. The place itself has a lot to explore and is perfect especially for kids with the huge playground and the eels which you can feed. The outside sitting area is so relaxed and the local staff makes you feel at home. Thank you :)
M.It's a fun family cafe. It has stream running through it. Has these massive amazing eels in it. Just buy a two dollar feed from the cafe and enjoy some quality eel time. Pretty fun for kids. They have a massive gardens and play grouds stuff for kids. Decent food and cafe.

V.I love this restaurant. The food is very good and the setting is fabulous. They have a fascinating play area for children and an adult sized swing, as well as the tame eels.
J.Love Jester House and I miss not being able to go during the week and at weekends, as they only open Fridays now. We had their set menu dinner which was really good. Tapas starter, lamb with risotto and a salad, hazelnut mousse dessert. Portion size was about right. My only criticism is that there weren't sufficient wait staff, and I spent about 10 minutes trying to attract attention to order another glass of wine.

J.Beautiful surrounds, lots from kids to do, excellent food and lovely service in a place with a lot of character.
Kids enjoyed feeding the eels as well as things to explore and play on from swings and climbing frames to quirky pieces.
Service was very friendly, patient, and they checked on that we had everything and were satisfied with things. It can get very busy and they will tell you a wait time if need be. So would recommend booking to avoid waiting.
They have on site parking and link to the cycle trail and have cycle parking too.

A.This place is AMAZING and delicious. So many options from healthy salads to gluten free berry crumble cake with cream. Even if the food had been mediocre, I would come back just for the service. Ruby was so friendly and even offered to show us around the city. Unfortunately we are leaving town tomorrow otherwise we would have taken her up on it! Thank you so much for the lovely lunch and hospitality.
P.This quirky and inviting place is a must see ... there are so many things to see and enjoy around every corner.
The coffee and food are good, the staff are very welcoming and provide great service. This is more than a cafe it is an experience for all the senses.
The tame eels are not my thing, but add to the quirkiness and sure seem to entertain the kids.
On a sunny day the outdoor seating with friends or family is spectacular- just go and enjoy all that Jester’s has to offer.

Don't come here for food in a hurry, you'll want to stay a while and soak up the outdoor scenery. Always worth the detour off the highway.

D.The Jester house is one of the coolest cafes in Tasman. They have a bunch of games of the kids, great food, great service and great coffee. Located right on the great taste trail there is a stream running through the cafe grounds where you can even feed eels. This place is cool highly recommended!

Not only do they serve good coffee and a delicious selection of food, their substantial garden grounds are setup for great fun for children with games, playground equipment and a small creek with the friendliest eels in the world! They have a small souvenir range available too. This is a great place to stop on route to or from the West Coast.

K.Fun ace to visit, just a few kilometers from Nelson on the Tasman road halfway to Motueka. Playground fun for the kids, a big show house, a la the Little d Woman Who Lived In Shoe. Story. You can rent the shoe house for a fantasy, is red weekend away. The cafe serves great food from a varied, but not too extensive menu, caters well for kids. (Our grandkids had a ball, running all over the place, chasing Henson, playing on slides and other play equipment, exploring the sculptures, playing games, dressing up, and feeding and stroking the huge eels that came right to the edge of the creek looking for food, which the kids fed them by hand off sticks.) The kid menus are good, the food was well cooked and served a la Carter in the garden or inside the restaurant. There was a pleasant selection of drinks, both alcoholic and otherwise, served by very friendly staff. We chose to eat outdoors in the beautiful Nelson sunshine. Well worth a visit to this magical place.
J.Absolutely lovely place to visit. I had my doubts about the tame eels initially but they were a blast to feed. I would recommend this to anyone, especially those with kids.

Cappuccino might as well have been a flat white, scone was floury and bland, whipped cream straight from supermarket (thin, light, no substance). The chocolate cake was nice and the best thing, a $2.50 chocolate truffle, came from Golden Bay. So there you go.
But if you don't care about food quality, definitely take your children there for the play area. Handmade, all wood and metal see-saws; sandpit; massive painted concrete tiger you can sit on, slides, giant chess board, and lots of other things. Worth the excursion!

N.A quirky cafe in a lovely garden. The food and coffee are great too. The place is definitely the only one of it's kind in New Zealand and probably the world. It does get very busy at peak times, so booking is a good idea.
P.This stunning cafe provides an amazing experience anytime of the year. A cosy inside atmosphere during the colder months, sitting with your back to the open fire. A sunny, warm and fresh feeling outside dining during the summer. You can feed the eels and walk through the enchanted forest and see the giant wooden animals as well as appreciating the gorgeous garden. The food at Jester House is beyond delicious. Always the best coffee in the Nelson region and serving refreshing beers and complimenting wines for any occasion.
My favourite is the Jester House eggs Benedict with salmon and hollandaise. Simply divine.
The service is always 5 stars and above. An absolutely wonderful experience every time!

H.All good except spoiled by being charged an extra 50 cents for a cup of hot water, cold water makes my fillings painful. I had purchased a meal and coffee $ 27.00. Cold water is no charge and the only difference is the cost of heating a cup,of water, come on!
I received a phone call to say they have reviewed and in future will not charge for hot water when coffee etc purchased, well done, so full marks on all counts.
A.Fantastic lunch staff and location. A nice touch is the woollen blankets that are given to the guests outside if it is cold and the mulled wine for the same reason.

C.Love this place. Been twice in a month since discovering it. Setting is great, so peaceful but also fun and creative. Fun for kids and kids at heart. Also super fun to feed the eels. Service is always good and friendly. Food is yummy and fresh. Their lemon cheesecake is devine! 😍 Had that both times I've been it's so yum, tastes like homemade. I will be back many more times I'm sure 😊👍
