S.After a couple of rainy days, we stopped in the lovely MAD Cafe and spend pretty much the entire Sunday there. Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner , plenty of hot drinks and beautiful conversations filled our day with joy.
Highly recommend if u looking for food made with love and you wanna escape from the madness out in the world

P.Great interior with alternative vibe all over. I just popped in for a quick cold drink, and loved every minute of it.
What a little gem!
A.My wife and I had the venison burger, the fish and chips and a couple of coffees. The food was excellent and the service amazing. There is plenty of room inside and out of the cafe so you can choose your own space.
If you want to support a cafe with lovely people and lovely food then you should check it out.
B.The decor looks amazing! The food looks amazing! Im sitting here, drooling over the food, yet completely dumbfounded by the ludicrous reviews preaching and policing public health safety while they spit in the faces of everyday people because of ones private health status. Get over yourselves, go join a coffee club and cry about it.

k.Keep fighting the good fight! I've never been but the principles you uphold are admirable. You'd think after England has completely lifted their restrictions then others would follow. All the 1 star reviewers, get over yourselves and find a hobby. Find something to build up, not something to tear down.
D.The 4 stars are solely for the food! Surprisingly delicious. The decor is not my cup of tea and made me hesitant about staying. That and the fact that it was empty with only two other customers sitting outside. Nevertheless, Collingwood is tiny and we could see most visitors across the road on buses ready to depart on the Farewell Spit tours. So we stayed as we were hungry! Glad we did, really enjoyed our meals 😁

D.Love this place. There's a sign on door advising people not to be wearing face nappies. If you are looking for somewhere to breath easy and get some delicious Kai this is the place.
L.What a wonderful cafe made especially interesting with the owners art displayed around the walls. A very layed back and welcoming vibe and so much to keep you looking around.
The whole setup of this cafe brings so many memories to me, pulling me back into the 70's it definately made a connection to my spiritual hippy long gone but not forgotten self, and I loved it.
Great inside and outside areas all reflecting the same vibe.
Just wish I had more time to spend in Collingwood so I could enjoy the live music and board game nights they have, but as Arney said I'll be back.
J.I thank the owner and staff for our lovely meals and coffee, also the lovely prints of NgAngA's art that shall grace our walls too, I truly loved the FREEDOM of choice and opinions which should be cherished always, It is what our Grandad's and Uncle fought to uphold. K.Just popped in for a spontaneous dinner last Friday. Had the most delicious laksa. The food was generally very fresh, healthy and delicious. Staff was helpful and friendly. Amazing art (all made by the owner of the café) and music (I think on Friday nights). Would definitely recommend if you're in or around Collingwood!

It's unbelievable how quickly the entire world fell into totalitarianism.The masks are not about safety or keeping people from getting sick,it's simply a measure of conformity.There is no law in NZ at the moment,questions ignored,people's livelihoods taken away,private medical info released to the Gov,getting ready to go door to door our source of truth has lost the plot.Its not science its propaganda! Y.Ordered fish and chips takaway the fish a bit small and the batter is soggy but really tender, and the 1/2 scoop chips was quite a lot and good. Bonus part is the art and decorations of the restaurant is top experience 👍👍👍

G.Awesome laksa, and take my recommendation for I am an Singaporean. This laksa may not be identical to the one I have back at home, but it was amazing in its own ways. Will recommend and return for this bowl of amazing laksa.
Not only is Chris' laksa luscious, the pancakes and fish 'n' chips were great as well. If you are looking for something mouth watering, date-worthy and healthy, this is the place to go.
F.I don't usually write reviews but this place deserve them all. Even tho the place was closed, the owner talked to me, showed me his art and made me a coffee. I was heading to farewell spit but my daughter was asleep in the car with my partner, so they couldn't experience in person this fantastic place. Sorry Nganga if we didn't stop on my way back, it was really late when we finished our walk and Luna was asleep again. I'll have to come back and spend some quality time in your special place. It was really nice to meet you,please never stop to speak the truth!!! All the best and thank you ❤️❤️❤️

We just been to the MAD cafe again today (Jan 02 - 2022) - what a delight - and like reality - masks optional - people smiling - facial expressions back on the menu - we honestly, hand on heart felt normal again - so librating :)

K.People who love organic and freshly made food made of local products: this is the right place for you! We just ate a delicious ramen, coconut cream berry yoghurt, an antipasti plate and had some seaweed smoothies! Lovely people!

Even if not everyone may agree with the owner's point of view on Covid 19, I respect him for his courage. Free dialogue never hurt anyone when peaceful, as in this case.

P.This cafe is simply awesome. It's full of interesting things be it art, jewellery, furniture or sayings. The owner is friendly and shares information on his art and he's happy to have a chat. Coffee was great too. Can't wait to try the food. Looks superb. Just a brilliant place to stop at. Will be back again on the way back down the bay!
O.We had a very lovely lunch at the M.A.D cafe ! Surprising for us was that the cafe was serving hot food. Once we ordered the chef went to work and made up our lunch fresh to order. Yummy. The nice and unique thing about this place is that it is full of amazing art from one artist. He was giving art classes on one side of the cafe to some local lovely ladies. Just a very " local" jewel. Please go and visit the cafe and chat with the artist and locals. It will make your Collingwood experience complete.
m.Awesome place with artwork everywhere and unique food with vegan options. We got the "burger" which was more like a wrap, but it was delicious and very filling. The drink cabinet has locally made kombucha/kefir combinations, which are delicious and quite exciting.
L.I had the flatbread, it came in good time and the flavours! More artistry than cooking. Amazing food. It was a generous serving, but so good I couldn't stop eating. My partner had the huge venison burger, and the best chips I have ever eaten. Definitely recomended.

S.We loved the moist tasty carrot cake but the venison burger was over cooked and very dry. The patty only took up about a third of the very over toasted dry bun. Great eclectic feel to the place.
A.Lovely Cafe with paintings by the owner exhibited around the walls. Menu has something for everyone even Vegan and Vegetarian meals. Interesting and very healthy smoothies and juices are also available. Prices were very reasonable
and servings generous.
E.I haven't been there but at least ur nice to unvaccinated I'm honestly gonna drive two hours just to see the place and have a bite to eat on Sunday
R.Just had one of the best meals I've had in NZ. Slow cooked hare with a generously loaded salad full of ALL the good stuff!! If we're ever in town again we'll definitely be coming back. Service was a little slow but absolutely excusable thanks to the great food. Fantastic
T.Amazing art emporium café. The sign literary says "Slow Down" above the door and if you go without expectation and with time on your hands you might even find yourself rejuvenated and playing giant chess in the garden with a kind hearted soul who may be there too ;)
C.Unfortunately our visit to the town was on a Monday when you guys were closed but we loved your vibe so much and spent a while loitering outside and reading all the cool signs. Can't wait to come back to Golden Bay and come in and say hi next time!
L.Very friendly staff. Even when a couple walks in 10 minutes after closing they were more than happy to fix us two orders of delicious fish and chips. I would recommend this place to anyone. I am not sure what they do different with their fish but it was the best I had on the whole South Island.

J.This place is the jewel of Collingwood as being different from anywhere else, and catering to a wide range of tastes and philosophies. I have been there several times over the last few years and had a variety of experiences, all good, all with different staff +/- the owner. This time , the coffee was 10/10 tastewise and just a tad cold. There were several things crossed off the menu, so less to choose from than usual AND then the breakfast dish we ordered for lunch was better than expected, with a variety of meats, an omlette and a Yummy flatbread. The atmosphere is relaxed, people just being themselves and the art is really interesting and peaceful to be around. If you have time and want to chill out..best place in Collingwood, hands down.

P.Coffee was ok but carrot cake and muffin were dry with no outstanding taste. We are outside as interior of cafe was old and dated. Lacked ambiance, could be a top cafe as position is nice

C.A menu to match the creativity on display in the artwork decorating the walls and spaces here. The big breakfast is all local produce with wild game caught locally added in. Goat, hare and venison with sausages homemade baked beans and delish relish! Topped with caramelized onion and free range eggs. By far the best big brekky I've had in my travels! Check it out if you are passing through. If you're staying nearby then definitely make the short trip to Collingwood to try authentic kiwi tucker and enjoy the relaxed vibes and artwork.

h.fresh made food, nice service and sometimes excellent live music (thumbs up for brian shone). but most of all a calm and also spiritually atmosphere with self drawn pictures from a real talent.
L.The art work is interdimentional, the food is consciously designed and the vibe is next level. Super chill place, absolutely beautiful.
Make sure to check out the light room and talk to the 'MAD' artist, he is of other worlds!

L.The recently opened Nga Nga Art Cafe is a lovely, cosy, interesting and quirky café and art gallery. Coffee is excellent, and they have an amazing chocolate mud cake. Inside you can enjoy great food and local art pieces from a number of artists in Golden Bay. It has a "relaxation garden" featuring more art pieces. Situated in the middle of lovely Collingwood, this is a place that shouldn't be missed. Grab the chance to have a chat with the colourful owner about his art and history in Collingwood. Open from early to late.
