M.Over the last 16 years of eating big breakfast in NZ, this one is definitely THE biggest and best priced big breakfast in the country. The ambience is very open and spatious, with ample seating outside as well as inside. The menu is long, service is courteous and very fast, and the food is excellent and well-priced. If you're driving through Murchison, you need to stop here for a drink or a feed!

G.Nice place and service. But food was average. We had a pizza, beef burger, wedges and flat white. Flat white had too much milk, pizza had no mozzarella cheese, but something else, and burger had pan cooked mushroom and onion which didn't match nicely - personal opinion. Wedges was nicely fried.

Looks to be in an old gas station and they have made it look amazing! There is a fire and great seating. 100% would go again, has to be one of the best cafe I have been.

J.A lovely spot to stop and restock. The kids corner (complete with couches, high chairs and toys) is a great place for the children to have a play while filling the stomachs. The couches meant the grown ups could sit back and relax. What a little gem of a place to find!

A.Went there with my Dad whilst road tripping. Dad says he had the best cheese scone and huge warmed berry muffin he has had in a long long time. Great to see a vegan option too - veggie filo. Lovely warm ambiance. Really cool tables and chairs, and lots of comfy couches.

P.Do not go past Murchieson without a stopover in this Cafe. Food is fab, especially the vegetarian filo rap. It is our stop over coffee break each time we go past on the way South or West or East.

s.Good place to stop while passing through Murchison good coffee and a good range of food friendly staff as well I use to stop at another cafe there but this one is much better and abit quieter being off the main road.

E.Stopped in for coffee and lunch. They have a good assortment of items in their display case and some menu items. Had a tasty pie, although it was reheated unevenly and was cold in parts which was disappointing. Probably would have been better to order off the menu.

M.I have stopped and eaten at this cafe many times, in my opinion a change in the cabinet food would be welcome as it is always the same. Another suggestion would be a counter for people who just want a takeaway coffee and/or food, I just wanted some food from the cabinet to takeaway last week, I had to queue with people ordering food to be eaten at the cafe and had about a 15 minute wait to just order a scone, not heated, not buttered, just put in a paper bag.....no...I had to be given a number and wait ??????? Why ? The scone was in front of me, I had paid ., I just wanted it put in a bag!!! Quite easy I would have thought. I will not be stopping at this cafe again for takeaway food, I was on my way to work , and ended up late. The food is good and I will stop again when I am not in a hurry, but please management think about it, not everyone has the time to sit for an hour and have lunch on a trip.

C.Chicken ceasar salad and a chicken burger, great variety of ingredients but the off-the-bone chicken was very dry, and not so good, salad could have done with dressing of any sort.

M.I stopped for lunch at rivers Cafe on 29/12/2020 while travelling to Motueka. It was a very busy day and many people were on the queue waiting to be served.
Cannot say that I liked the attitude of the lady at the counter when I asked for a chicken burger. Her answer was only "it will take 30 minutes". Hmm..OK.....I chose something else from the menu and the answer was "30 minutes waiting as well". Nothing else.
Ok then....I picked a pie from the glass cabinet and a juice bottle from the fridge and went outside. The pie just required heating but I had to wait around 20 minutes.
Understand it was a busy day but this doesn't mean you need to offer poor customer services.
N.A great place that has a creative menu and good food. Their prices are a little on the high side, but you see that reflected in the quality of ingredients. A good place for breakfast, or for coffee anytime. Nicely decorated and a artistic atmosphere. I like the river theme with stones and rocks used for decorating. Check it out for yourself.

C.I got the berries and cream pancakes and a tea. Both were excellent. The tea was loose leaf, which was a pleasant surprise. Although the price was a bit higher than other cafes, the quality matched the cost. They seem to put a lot of care into what they serve. I highly recommend this cafe.

Disappointing to see that some covid requirements were not being adhered to, customers were placing orders at the counter instead of being seated, ensuring that customers were signing in and over the time we were there several tables were cleared but none were wiped down.
S.Had lunch there on Wednesday. Tasty food. Watch out for the young girl taking orders as she does not listen and asked me 3 times what type of coffee I wanted. Still a nice cafe.

K.Stumbled across this cafe by accident and was the last customer of the day. The coffee was perfect and the Lamb Shank pie was stunning to say the least. Possibly the best pie I have eaten in my entire life! I would make a 100km detour just to get one of these!

M.We always call in on our way to Nelson. The atmosphere is welcoming and the service is 2nd to none. I came in at 1145. I was unaware that Breakfast stops at 1100 but the kitchen staff said they would still make pancakes, bacon and banana anyway. I had them on the way to and on the way home from our trip.........they are massive and to die for. You have to try them!!

T.my mother and I popped in here yesterday for a cuppa before our desination of nelson. My mum had been here before and loved their toasted sandwiches, I hadnt even heard of the place so I suggested going there. Wow, very inviting from the outside with all the outside seating, and off the main road with all its noise from trucks and cars. Outside had overhead shade and it was a very hot day. I chose to try the raspberry muffin, it was to die for....REAL raspberries and so many in the muffin. I will come to this place everytime i come through murchison instead of going to the main truck stop one. This is a classic of the best place hidden away. Just off the main road.

The food is really standard, not bad and not great.
There isn't a whole lot of restaurants to choose from, so this is as good as it gets.

C.Love this place..stopped through on the way to motueka..ordered the soup..piping hot and so delicious..awesome on a cold day..choice of 2..fire going and place warm and cosy..staff friendly and welcoming to..only thing i didnt like was the takeaway coffee..something i order regularly..tasted very different this time almost bitter..wonder if it was a wrong order mixup..otherwise definitely recommend this place..
