A.WOW!! The woman chef/cook mastered my partner & I a wonderful fish 'n' chips meal!! The young kotiro who assisted was also rawe. To those of you who visit the Old Trout I say defs give their kai a go! Ka pai wahine kuki!!

T.My partner and I stopped in for a late lunch, I got the chicken burger ($7.50) and he got the B.L.T. Sandwich which comes with fries ($15) they were both really good, glad to have some warm food, as there isn’t many options round here. The only reason that didn’t get a 5 was because of the poor service. Both guys were not friendly, one stood at the coffee machine and didn’t even say “hi” or “I’ll be with you in a minute”

G.This is the only cafe between Rotorua and Kawerau, and in the best location with some lake views. Like rural NZ it's a little rough around the edges but that's a part of the charm 🙂

L.What a great find, from the outside it looks empty, could be closed. Walk in and you'll see nice food in the cabinet, great coffee and a menu, keep walking through and you have this lovely courtyard. What's not to love?

P.Excellent big breakfast. Great coffee. Lots of al fresco seating and toilet. Good place to stop either going to or coming from Whakatane. Well recommended. Does good takeaways!!

N.We found this place after waitangi soda springs. The home made seafood chowder was absolutely heavan. The great menu was hard to choose from. Awesome vibes, good music and fantastic friendly staff.

Although depending on the time of the day their ready to take away food (pies, sandwiches) can be limited. On my last couple of visits at around 11am there was only 1 or two pies and about the same amount of sandwiches

J.Top quality. Note the big sign on the front says ROTOMAS, "old trout cafe" is written very small on sign on the ground. We had spicy chai, fish burger, chips and chowder. All was outstanding, especially the chowder!
A.Such a wee unexpected gem. Breakfast was hearty and well cooked. Lovely seating in the back looking over the lake.
