Reviews of Brown Sugar Cafe
G. W.
A family favourite when travelling on State Highway one between Wellington and Taupo. Brown Sugar cafe in Taihape has an excellent and tasty breakfast menu and assortment of fresh baking and other ready meals. The coffees ☕️ and tea 🍵 are of a high standard as is the service. You can select to eat inside or outside in a sheltered garden area with clean toilets 🚻 😉 We have been stopping here for more than 20 years and never been disappointed.

6/2/22 On my way to Taupo so stopped in for a sit down this time. Very hot yesterday at 29degrees by 10am so opted for the outdoor area in the shade grabbing coffee, brunch & some goodies to take away. Such a gem. Photos included this time.
30/12/21 I always stop here on my trips from the Wgtn region to up north and this morning was no exception as I picked up a coffee made perfectly. If my companion was awake I would have sampled some of the fresh & exciting cabinet options. The beautiful souls on the staff are wonderful & up for a chat if you stop to take the time. Beautiful outside area & cottage wares for sale. I’m a fan!
D. C.
The food was nice, fairly quick service, friendly staff & good coffee.
Nice inside & outside dining areas and the weather was perfect.
Very cool gift shop too.
The cafe was busy, Friday lunchtime.
The only negative thing I noticed was tables weren't being cleaned between customers. We sat down at a table that could have done with a wipe down. Probably short staffed (sign of the times?).
M. C.
A lovely café well worth the stop to refresh yourself & stretch the body when traveling. Small choice for those who are gluten free or vegan but a wide range of yummy cabinet food for everyone else. This time I enjoyed a delicious rhubarb & custard cake

Surprisingly large Cafe with excellent seating options. Very cool assortment of nic nacs and odds n bits to look at. Clean and tidy setup. Good service and food options

Stopped at Brown Sugar twice. Tauranga-Wellington return. Ate there yesterday. Pizza and salad delicious. Very generous pizza slice. One of the nicest I have ever tried. Friendly helpful staff when choosing. Relaxed, homely vibe. Perfect location for a long journey stop.

Had full Breakfast. Selection of items good. Only one issue little sausages used had extremely hard skin to try to cut into not tasty.
Everything else was very tasty.
Coffee excellent hot and strong.
Husband had muesli with fruit looked inviting he thoroughly enjoyed.

So lovely to drop in on you for late lunch on our way south. It’s 29.5 degrees in Taihape this afternoon and your staff are full of smiles, food plentiful and delicious, your garden such a reviving oasis!! It’s no wonder your customers look so happy and relaxed!
J. A.
Their pumpkin soup with toast was wonderful and the staff, super friendly and accommodating when I asked to swap the bread for different kind (dietary restrictions). Just wish they had a vegetarian option different from the kiwi usuals - pumpkin/spinach quiche. I usually stop here to laugh at the sassy collection of socks, tea towels and oven mitts. This time, I bought me my 2 new fave socks with quotes that fit me best and make me laugh. Great souvenir from the trip 😁

The iconic Brown Sugar Cafe in Taihape is the premium cafe in town and the perfect spot for a lunch break when travelling. The food is always devine and the interior and exterior settings are lovely. The staff are excellent too. Quite expensive, but that's what you get when paying for high quality food.
T. M.
Nice place to stop off for a morning breaky & hot cuppa. Fire was blazing, so lovely and cosy, welcoming staff, reasonably priced, lots of gift ideas to browse/buy... we will be back again when we travel up the line.
K. L.
Good honest food and coffee and the attached outdoor gear shop is one of the best in NZ. Great quality gear from NZ and the rest of the world at fair prices. Enjoy the visit to Taihape.
I. M.
Fab! Stopped here on way home to Napier from Halcombe. What a delightful cafè/store in a quaint town. Georgous setting, inside & out with lovely service. We had cabinet food not a meal, the savoury bun & ginger crunch were lovely, great coffee & so great to see the tea came with a 2nd little pot containing extra hot water. What was supposed to be a quick drop in ended up over an hour as I couldn't resist not only looking but buying some beautiful gifts from the vintage looking store section. If I had had more time then I would have loved to have checked out the other section which looked like it sold hunting/fishing clothing & other interesting stock. We will definately be back with our caravan next time & not on a Sunday as most of town was closed.

A hidden little gem tucked in the heart of Taihape. Love the decor and atmosphere. Plenty of seating space and lovely clean toilets. The cabinet foods look good. The menu items we ordered were delicious however for the price we paid, think its very expensive. Not quite the perfect balance between quality and quantity. The coffee was ok but could be better to be honest however the tea was pretty exceptional.
J.
Based in Taihape this Cafe is brilliant....great service even when very busy due to a good number of staff working. Wonderful atmosphere and ambiance with really yummy food.....and my almond chai latte was so good 👍. The other thing l loved was the entrance into an attached clothing store...fabulous and so spent money there too.
A.
Its the best cafe in Taihape, awesome service, best scrabbled eggs ever. Definitely stopping in next time for breakfast 5 out of 5
B. S.
Surprised with the negative reviews about this cafe. Location is just off the main state highway up a small side street. Plenty of parking around for ease of access. Food is of a good quality with a homely feel about it we had a freshly baked bacon and egg pie with a slice of carrot cake to finish. Staff are very friendly and helpful, they went above and beyond to help a family member. Great experience and will drop in again
J. S.
It's lovely when you find the perfect sandwich - and the chicken cashew foccacia was just that. They have a good range of dairy free options which was very welcome. The tea was served super cute and though busy the atmosphere was relaxing and the staff were lovely. My friend had the soup of the day and enjoyed both it and the coffee. Definitely worth a visit
T.
Loved to whole atmosphere of this place it was very welcoming, cozy fire going, food was delicious 😋 had 2 visits there while staying in tihape
L. P.
Good location of the shop with a great wider outdoor area in the back. Busy place but fast service, few people staff members inside. Souvenirs available as well. Wheelchair people are welcome. Car parking on the kerb side near by. Toilets available.
G. S.
Always worth a visit when passing thru on a roadie. Great range of food and drinks. Nice place to pass time.
N.
We love this place. Outstanding food and beverages. Great indoors and outdoors seating. Friendly staff. Nothing not to like here.
R.
First class cafe. Great counter food, excellent coffee, service and spotless conveniences. Standard always the same, thanking you. Bob n Anne
D. N.
Great coffee, delicious food! And fantastic service. Nice little cafe with an interesting assortment of giftware to buy. Lots of English crockery for sale, from cheap through to some very nice looking high quality items!
Bit of a queue to get in as popular and checking covid passes at the door, but moved quickly and plenty of seats inside.
E.
Great food great gift selection and atmosphere we always look around the sports shop. And above all it was great to see that the staff are taking covid vaccine passes seriously but mayb they should scan instead of sighting vacinne passes as this would weed out fake passes that non vacinated people are passing off as real.
D. L.
Far away from our place this is the second time we have visited Brown Sugar Cafe with a few years in between. Their excellence has stood the test of time. Fantastic! Lovely setting, gorgeous outdoor area, great customer service and superb food! We had asparagus soup with fococcia bread and the yummiest Danish with lemon icing. Thank you so much for making our long journey more bearable. 💛
S. T.
Do yourself a favour and try the sourdough toast and quince jam. It’s really good, but then so is everything else they make. Coffee is excellent too.
K. H.
I've had two visits here in the past week. The first was great, the second not so much. Food took almost 40mins to come out and I wasn't advised it would be such a long wait... I actually think they forgot about me! Disappointing as I quite enjoy stopping here
C. M.
One of the best cafes in NZ!! Great food, service, ambience, service and more!!!
A. L.
Top quality breakfast. The bacon and crepes were delicious. If you have to stay in and around Taihape, you should definitely come here for breakfast.
A. C.
This is wonderful place to stop.. when traveling on SH1 just off the main drag.. you walk through to a garden that feels like an oasis of claim..
The food is amazing the service is outstanding.. Will so be dropping in next time I am passing.
P. S.
Loved this shop. Good food, great coffee & friendly staff. Quaint things for sale.
J.
Lovely breakfast, great tasting coffee, perfect eggs. Thanks heaps. Will stop by next time we pass through town.
B.
Hadn't been for a few years until Recently . Nothing had changed and was busy . Mainly locals which shows how good the Cafe is.
J.
Good service the coffee is great and relaxing court yard or inside dining and good gift range of products
k.
Great coffee and a freah scroll and hot cross bun on our stop through, always a pleasure at brown sugar.
E.
Tasty food, clean and pleasant - lovely outdoor area
B. L.
Really enjoy the atmasphere and the cakes are great, there is always a little gift to buy and good variety of drinks. The service was great as they get very busy.
T. D.
Very busy, but still excellent fast service, and yummy food. Great for kids, nice outdoor play area and courtyard. Wouldn't be so great in the rain though - no real play area inside.
S. T.
Good food made well. Friendly service.
D.
Good healthy food at a sensible price. Had someone checking Covid Vaccine Passes at the door. Top job!
S.
Awesome cafe and the sports shop next door was A1, first time I could walk in and get shirts that fitted me for $20.00
J. L.
Great little pitstop when traveling the country. The food is good, it's right by the road so no detours and they've got a wonderful terrace out back. What more do you want when taking a break from a long drive?
A. G.
This a great little cafe to stop at, warm friendly with great food and drinks. They also cater to small children. Clean, spacious and tidy toilets make it the perfect stop when on a journey.
They sell lots of little gift ideas as well.
There is a connecting door to an outdoors shop that has something for everyone. Whether it is a pat of the black Labrador called blue or buy some shoes or merino gear all at great prices.
D.
Great coffee and love the grilled cheese and bacon with tomato - always delish.
P. T.
Great cafe experience within lovely oudoor terrace setting. Good coffee. Food adequate but not exceptional. Very useful stopover on the Hamilton Wellington drive.
R. J.
Stopped in last Monday. Great lunch certainly will be a regular stop on /trips north and south. Have some plans to purchase gear from the attached menswear shop on our next trip north
Friendly service great food. Robert and Linde Whanganui.
J.
Always lovely staff, nice food, good coffee a really wonderful cafe
L. G.
Very charming café, great ambience in this wooden rustic deco. Nice sunny terrace in a wonderful garden. Very soothing atmosphere. Staff is friendly and service is fast.
Food is great, fresh ingredients. Meat and vegetarian option available. In counterpart, the portion was just a little too less. Very pleased in general
C.
There wasn't much of a selection of food and coffee didn't taste right. The limited food that was there was good though.
A.
Stopped for a mocca and something to eat on the drive, scrumptious sausage rolls, busy, friendly staff...
J.
Good solid food every time. Friendly staff. Nice gift store.
C. M.
Lovely cafe for a stop on a road trip to Wellington! Excellent coffee and very tasty food. The decor is very cute too, and a lovely gift selection available.
P.
We always stop here on our way north or south. There are always delicious vegan options. Today we had a most delicious vegetable and quinoa soup and a salted caramel slice and coffee. So nutritious and yummy and the best part of all was no animal suffered. Thanks BSC
M. E.
My wife had the chai latte and said it was the best one she's ever had. Stopped here on the way to Wellington from Rotorua for breakfast. Food was very tasty and the service was great.
C.
Always a delight to stop here. And gift range amazes me every time
E. E. -. J. O.
Coffee, service and raw treats were all amazing, super cool like store. So stoked to find this spot and sit in the courtyard in the sun!
J. L.
Such a great little stop, so much of interest to explore, along with great coffee and tasty treats. They were overflowing with buzz and people... Needing to close the door so they could finish for their day at 4pm.
Understandably popular after visiting, they've mastered the secret if attraction!
L.
Great food, good service, lovely setting.
I.
Very nice coffee and a very nice breakfast meal as well.
F.
Always a good place to stop, good food. Friendly staff
P.
Worth the visit coffee abit on the cold side having asked for extra hot
G. T.
Always our favourite cafe when passing through Taihape. Good food and coffee, lovely outdoor area under the quince tree, sandpit for kids. Cool merchandise to browse and buy. Gluten free options too.
S. J.
Very quaint/charming cafe with great coffee and tea, treats, sandwiches and a patio garden. I highly recommend stopping here if you are passing through town.
N. A.
Great food and drinks, nice outdoor area too. Was left disappointed with a passive aggressive comment from the server who disagreed with the fact that I had asked for takeaway. I had asked for the entire meal to be takeaway, but only food was (not drinks as well)
K.
Great coffee good food and friendly service
S. S.
Warm, homely, classic kiwi cafe with a great little space for the kids put the back! Supreme beans - our latte was spot on and the food was fresh and made from quality ingredients. Fantastic place to stop on the way through to / from Wellington
U.
Prefect spot to stop on a road trip great food great setting.
A. B.
Awesome little stop in Taihape..who would have thought this little gem of a place existed here. The soup of broccoli and blue cheese and the slice of pizza an absolute treasure...loved it ,and the attached clothes shop great bargins...stop in spend your cash in a quintessential small town kiwi stop over..thanks for the experience.
M. R.
Lovely garden setting, selection of teas and a couple of vegetarian options. Good toilet stop too 😁
K. F.
- Good location.
- Good food.
- Great desert selection.
- Indoor and outdoor seating.
- Clean bathrooms.
- Knick knacks for same.
- Store next door.
B. J.
I usually have sausage rolls, but today the ones sitting on counter were cold, so terrible. Was going to complain but was bit buzy. Otherwise really nice place. Most staff are lovely and friendly.
P. G.
Stopped here today for first time. Good service. Nice coffee and smoothie. Had the big breakfast. Nice food but at $26 it's up there as far as pricing goes.
G. B.
It's been a while since I've been here. It's pretty much as I remembered it - cosy and natural. The food was nice. Everybody enjoyed lunch, but I kinda wish I'd gone for the soup instead of the open sandwich. Winter is winter, after all.
Having the shop integrated with the cafe is both good and bad. It's interesting but also distracting for the kids. Also, watch our for the wood burner with little fingers.
R.
Lovely place to stop. Fast service, nice food
S.
This has been a regular stopping place on my travels north for years. It started with the great coffee, made with Supreme beans but I've now tried lots of the meals. Delicious. Especially good baking. Nice outdoor area which is good for families. A rare find in a rural town.
M.
Lovely setting. Wonderful food. Neat staff, always friendly.. . Great place for locals and travelling public..
J.
Called in for coffee on a cold day. Warm respite, good food!
J. L.
Loved this! Such a homely feel, friendly staff, clean bathrooms, easy access, wheelchair friendly.
The only thing I'd suggest is, if you have fake plants, make sure you dust them! Delicious food and coffee! Loved the size of the mugs!
C.
What a fantastic little place tucked away in Taihape. Who would have known that there was such an awesome little cafe in a tiny town like Taihape. You enter through a shop which sells absolutely everything you would ever need. As a skier I was amazed by all the Picture ski jackets - there was an amazing selection. The cafe itself was very nice and humble. For lunch we had the soup which was very nice and was served with a nice slice of ciabatta bread. The coffee's aswell were very nice. All around a nice experience.
C. O.
I really liked their Gluten Free quiche, which had a crispy potato base. The coffee was okay, nothing memorable really, but definitely not bad by any means. The space itself felt very cramped though(despite being mostly empty), with too many tables too close together, and the 'retail' part too close to the eating spaces. The staff were quite friendly too, which definitely made a difference.
T.
What a delicious place to stop for lunch. The chicken salad was very generous with fantastic helping of meat. Great coffee! The chicken and cashew focaccias are a family favourite.
A. B.
Taihape is nostalgia for me: I started primary school there. We love the fire, the food is amazing, and the coffee is excellent. Great location, good parking, interesting garden, and good shopping/gift shop.
L.
Good place to stop for coffee and a snack when heading north or south
M.
Great coffee, lovely place, friendly staff👍
F.
I stopped to recharge on the drive through from Welly. Good coffee and delicious chocolate brownie. Friendly staff were polite and efficient.
G.
Really yummy chicken salad. Beautiful garden and friendly service!!
D.
Brown sugar was as good as ever. Great coffee...good as anywhere and better than a lot. Great breakfast and friendly staff.
A great stop off destination for me between wgtn and aklnd
N. T.
Limited food selection and service was a bit slow and felt stressed. Cabinet food we had was very average but the soup was delicious and they made a great cuppa. I loved that they had a dog friendly table which was so lovely given we were passing through with a pooch.
C.
Good place for a relaxing break from a road trip. Place is bigger than it looks from the outside and there's lots of seating in the garden area it the back. Decent carrot cake and coffee and the staff served with a smile. They had a good selection of ice cream and cold drinks as well, perfect for a summer stop.
M. E.
Good range of food. Staff patient on busy day. Missed getting a custard sq. But my fault ☺. Veg Ceiche very nice and I like steak. Good selection hot drinks-with spare hot water
A. H.
Lovely atmosphere! Delightful gifts on display. Decent coffee and really excellent Quince and Custard cake!
L.
A nice cafe to go to with a outdoor area out the back
Friendly stuff and a enjoyable place to relax with nice food and a drink hot or cold to help wash it down in Taihape
K. V.
Amazing garden. Always head here if we are traveling, because the garden is a refreshing stop. Clean toilets. Yummy food especially lemon cake.
S.
Nice strong triple shot flat whites!
P. M.
Always a great coffee! Excellent place to stop for a break from the road. Good choices for food and awesome area outside if you've got kids along. Lovely gift selection too if rather on the expensive side!
C.
I have made a point of stopping here for the better part of 15 years, maybe more. Decor is great, and the cabinet food too. However I share the opinions expressed by others that it's expensive for what you get, and the coffee I got was frankly terrible; cold and over extracted. If that was sorted, I'd continue coming.
D.
Always great coffee here without a fail. A definite break stop on my road trips down to Wellington.
A.
This is a regular stop-off point for our family whenever we are driving north. Very consistent quality. I can recommend the cheese, bacon, and tomato toasties. Coffee is good by Wellington standards. And the restrooms are clean.
E. M.
A lovely little cafe in Taihape for a lunch or afternoon coffee stop. Full of great cabinet food, with lots of other little gifts and treasures to look at. Today is a wet cool afternoon, so great to stop for a hot cuppa with an egg sandwich and a yummy piece of carrot cake.
G. L.
Taihape has a number of good eateries, but Brown Sugar is always near the top. Food and coffee consistently good. I've been a regular visitor since it first opened many moons ago and it never fails to please.
u. r.
The cabinet food keeps improving every time I visit. It has always been very good but is now at a whole new level. Sunny, warm and relaxing. Great coffee.
G.
Brown sugar cafe is always a pleasant stop on the road through the Central North Island. It is often quite busy but worth a look in see if you can grab a drink and a bite to eat there.
A. L.
Super tasty food, great coffee and an amazing garden cafe
S.
A high quality, Wellington-esque cafe in rural New Zealand. Good coffee and food, but with country character, plus lots of great gifts and novelties available too. Truly worth a visit.
J. H.
Amazing atmosphere and awesome supreme coffee, but sadly the prices really put us off eating here! Not sure if the prices were inflated because it was a public holiday when we visited, but $7 for a smallish piece of carrot cake is exorbitant, as is $6.50 for a large takeaway coffee. I have never paid that much for a coffee, and I live in a big city!
P.
Always good. Great food. Tea comes (as it should) with hot water and tea leaves! Lovely gift shop and courtyard and toilets always lovely. A must visit in Taihape
L. T.
When you drive through NZ country town you need a good country cafe. Brown sugar name and street frontage attracted me as just that type of cafe.
The little quirky things in the store like the diet fork and spoon got my attention.
Soup was delicious. Coffee was acceptable for a country town.
A good stop over to stretch the legs and refresh.
L. T.
It was yummy but the food we ordered was a little over cooked and hard to eat.
Atmosphere was warm and inviting. Staff were friendly
A.
Lovely surroundings. Nice variety of food and merchandise.
B. K.
Came in for breakfast, and the waffles were just mind-blowingly good. It was crispy and sweet in just the right places. Also enjoyed the great coffee and atmosphere. Worth a visit during a long road trip.
M. M.
Great classic nz cafe with very delicious food, friendly people and amazing coffee! Very spacey, has kids area, small shop with some local stuff. Worth visiting.
K.
Memu is good but doesn't change much
J. C.
Great place to stop off at on the way through!Good drinks, good sausage rolls, although the sandwiches were so-so.
*On Review*
Clearly I lucked out - the sandwiches the other members of my group got were definitely in the good category!!
S.
Lovely setting, and clean restaurant. Food tasty and nice and fresh. The let down was the iced coffee and chocolate as these weren't mixed properly. Very busy little cafe.
M.
Just popped in here on our way home from Tauranga for a cup of tea and coffee. An older style cafe but was quite tidy. Coffee was ok tea the same we didn't buy anything to eat and there was not much on offer but it was 1.30pm. They offer meals however we didn't buy.
R. B.
Classic kiwi cafe, with the unbidden gem, a hunting n fishing store attached. Or is it the other way around? Anyway this is how all shops should be, good stock of neat stuff to look at, then relax with coffee and something nice to eat. Outdoors is great in summer, can buy a Bush shirt next door for winter. Perfect!
M.
Lovely staff, amazing food and a very cute shop as well. Highly recommend. We will be back.
L. G.
Great friendly staff, great place to stop. Food selection a little limited but what we got was very nice. Tea for 2 was in a decent sized pot and a decent top up. Thank you.
P.
Great coffee. Nice atmosphere. Place is pricey though. Expect small-ish portions too. My coffee was tasty though. There are tables outside the front where dogs are welcome.
P. B.
Great coffee, amazing sausage rolls and pies! However, be prepared to pay near double of Auckland prices.
R.
I have eaten here before and maybe had one of the best omelette's ever. Today the place looked very tired and in need of both a really good clean and refresh. Service was pretty good. Probably won't go back.
S.
Lovely food great environment
C. H.
Nice food, friendly staff, very pleasant surrounding's, great place to stop
T. B.
Lovely cafe, beautiful garden to relax and eat in.
B.
Always a clean and tasty experience if you need a bit of a nibble around Tihape.
J.
I'm from taupo my sister is from palmerston and we met there for a catch up. Went for brunch, food and coffee really tastie. Caf'e full of nice stuff to buy for presents, lovely fire kept the place warm, nice clean toilets and a place for our children to play outside. We spent ages there . Highly recommend
C.
Brown Sugar Cafe never fails to please. Having been there several times over the years, it is always consistent. Delicious food and coffee. With great service and and comfortable environment.
W.
Lovely setting, friendly staff
V.
Always reliably good coffee and food, clean loos, and a charming ambiance. Highly recommended.
J. D.
A great place to grab a bite to eat on a road trip... quick service despite being busy, good range of reasonably priced food and drinks. Coffee was good.
A nice courtyard dining area there for a sunny day too.
K.
Great coffee and food, neat shops nearby.
D.
Amazing conversation, fantastic coffee
m. k.
My favourite cafe in Taihape. Kids fluffys are good value, and you can get your coffee in a bowl (popular in Auckland I think). Since I like to go large when I go out for a coffee this suits. We did have an issue with the hot chocolate there one time, either it was very weak or Milo by mistake. This was rectified straight away however.
K.
Happy face pizza always yum
J.
Great place for food and coffee. Also many wonderful goodies to check out and to purchase
T.
This is such a fabulous cafe with good coffee and food, love the addition of all the nic naks for sale. Very neat quirky cafe
C.
Sunday morning brekkie on way through to Palmerston North. Bacon n poached eggs on Vogels toast. Great eggs, lots of tasty bacon and lovely buttered Vogels. Coffee (long black) was top too.
The cafe has lots of good quality niknaks to peruse and buy whilst waiting for your order and is associated with a sports/clothing store next door.
Will definitely be back when passing through in November this year.
Thanks guys... Keep up the great work
L. P.
The pizza is very pricey for what you recieve. Very little quick and substantial takeaway options available. But the staff were faultless. Friendly, polite, professional so a big👍for them.
M.
We stopped there because there were indications they had some of the best Russian fudge, didn't buy anything else. They're not a fudge specialist so we purchased a small bag with 6 pieces for $5 and left.
Taihape is famous for number tossing and only 250 metres away from the cafe up by the railway line, so we had a ball tossing gumboots. It's free and publically available, so how and have a blast because it's clumsy and tremendous fun.
B.
Best cafe in Taihape, good coffee, excellent food!
S. M.
A busy cafe with great fresh food, good service and dealt well with lots of travellers coming through. Wod definitely stop again here.
K.
Good coffee. Lovely garden area out the back. Lots of little gift ideas.
M. S.
Great coffee. Bit small & pokey. Had better eggs benedict. Overall pleasant enough
L. O.
Delicious real food, we had breakfast. Then we spotted banana cake, for later, yummy home-made. Authentic country setting. Restful. We will definitely be back.
M. W.
I always stop here. Good coffee, nice fresh food, friendly service and picturesque garden surroundings
J. O.
Beautiful, restful stop, great coffee. Clean toilets. Good service. Some food overpriced, e.g. $15 for tasteless cheese and micro bacon on vogels!
R. H.
Nice place, people, nice Chicken & Brei, 2 x Chick Salad very poor. Chicken dry , chewy, cold. Withered salad leaves amongst the good ones. Needs work before it will be dish that anyone would order on the next visit.
m. e.
Great breakfast and surroundings
E.
Lovely choice of food and good coffee. Friendly service and outside area to sit. Perfect place for a treat or lunch to break up your journey.
j.
Enjoyed a late lunch here. All food cooked by chef on site so very good
E.
When I go there I get bacon fresh tomatoes and herbs on toast delicious 😄also love my English breakfast tea.
Á. M.
Delicious food and friendly staff with a nice green garden. Perfect place to stop by and rest a bit after a long driving. We've been here twice already and I am pretty sure, we'll come back more.
J.
Delightful courtyard, great food
a.
Would be 5 star but a little light on the dressing on the salads
Best coffees this side of the black stump
E.
Cute garden and outdoor seating in this hidden gem and I wish I could have gone through the little craft shop they had too.
K.
Stunning cafe. Beautiful warm wooden interior. Gorgeous rambling garden outside with sandpit and playground. Heavenly. Wish our town had a cafe that came even close to this.
A.
A beautiful place to break a journey.

Pizza is tasty but not worth the $19 price tag for the size. Good coffee though.

Always good, whether you are passing through Taihape early on the way to the mountain and stopping g at Brown Sugar for their coffee and fresh Danish or stopping for foccacia and ham off the bone sandwiches with gf orange cake, gf macadamia brittle, or carrot cake. Also delightful gift and card shopping.
O.

M.
Lovely place to stop great food and coffee the staff were very pleasant as well 👍
N.
Staff weren't friendly at all. The owners friends were overcrowding us at the counter and I thought how rude. Have been here plenty of times before and this time will be last. Better service and coffee at bp!
K.
Yummy food and lots of other tempting goods to buy! Very busy place.
L.
They have lovely food and really nice coffee to either take away or have there
R.
Ok food. Always busy in here during holiday season. Can be hard to get a table if you are just stopping for a quick break from driving. Other than that service is friendly
A. B.
The food and coffee was very tasty and well made. Had the portions sizes been a little larger for the money, would have been 5 stars.
M.
Great little cafe on a side street in Taihape, seems to be popular as cafe was well patronised, good food & coffee- outside tables an option. A variety of small gifts available to purchase
A.
Don't get me wrong... the location, next to the service lane is great - as is inside & outside spaces; but, the prices & portion sizes don't compare to the likes of Murrayfields - and... there's no all-day breakfast!
S.
Up the side street, cosy spot, worth the stop, great sports store next door
R. N.
Great food. We called on holiday weekend and they were very busy but had extra staff food came almost immediately
J.
Love this place. Good coffee and lots of quirky gifts to browse.
C.
Really good coffee. If you drink Soy, it's a nice one, nothing worse than gross soy. Food was out quick. Nice gift shop to browse.
B.
Highly recommend the pizza or the bacon&relish toast. Both super tasty!!
Despite busy coped well and wait wasnt too long
J.
Lovely coffee, felt a bit odd looking at gift ware amongst the seated customers while waiting.

My favourite cafe in Taihape. Kids fluffys are good value, and you can get your coffee in a bowl (popular in Auckland I think). Since I like to go large when I go out for a coffee this suits. We did have an issue with the hot chocolate …
V. H.
