Stop off on a road trip. Breakfast was great. Coffee was good. Staff were friendly. Good experience.

I normally don't write reviews of cafés, but this one really deserved a good one! Really good food, and not overpriced, with excellent service. I really loved the atmosphere of the café too, it was really warm and cozy, with indoor and outdoor sheltered seating. It's such a cool idea that they had blankets on the seats as it's winter so everyone can keep warm! And the games on the tables were a really good idea too!! Our table had mini connect four and Uno which would make the café an excellent place for families to keep the little ones entertained. At the smaller tables, there were puzzle books which would make the café also good for dining alone. Such a great place and really recommend going here if passing through Tirau.

A charming, pretty and quirky cafe. I am always excited when I unexpectedly find cafes that offer foods for special dietary requirements. Poppy's offers great vegan options, so naturally I was compelled to order the most generous and mouth-watering meal I could choose. We did not wait long to be served, but what a gift it is that the tables are equipped with games. These are probably intended for children, but I am a shameless millenial and playing Connect 4 while waiting was nostalgic and tremendously fun! When the food did arrive, it was hot and fresh and beautifully presented. I felt completely satisfied after my meal. The cafe setup is rustic, comforting, and charming; the decor shows a lot of heart. I'd definitely recommend this place and hope to visit again soon.

Went here today for the first time in a number of years and was disappointed that it was not as it used to be. The food was great but the service was slow and the back outdoor area needs a good clean as it’s looking totally neglected with dead plants and piles of dead leaves everywhere that definitely does not add to the ambience. Wouldn’t rush to go back....

Stopped here for a break driving. Lovely cafe for a muffin and a hot chocolate. Good service, friendly staff. i will definitely stop here again when I'm driving through.

I ordered the corn fritters and was pleasantly surprised with them. There was a generous portion of brie melted between 2, and a couple of very tasty bacon rashers as well. Topped with some very good sour cream. I'm passing again in a day or 2, so may have another lunch break here. And the service was quick and efficient from pleasant staff.

The carrot cake muffin was very moist and tasty loved it the only thing I didn't like was the teaspoons that came with cakes was still dirty and the glass also. The atmosphere was friendly and great for families love the settings outside the back, even had a children's area with toys. Wonderful

We had a work project in Tirau. Planned on going to tuckers but really full and busy so went across the road to a quiet Poppys cafe. Lovely welcoming lady took our big order and bought it out within 15 to 20mins. Amazing cute presentation, love the plates. The slices are really good served on a cute breadboard. I got the big breakfast sooooooo good!!! Definitely not what I was expecting. I would say better than a fancy cafe made with love and great service. I would stop here again any day! Great food and friendly service.

I can't say I was impressed however my hubby seemed to enjoy it. Food was GOOD but not enough (portion wise)for the price, sadly. Other cafes in town busy, this place not so much so was great to have brekki in peace.

Really good vegan options (4 that I could see on the menu!) for breakfast/brunch/lunch. I had the greenie which had polenta chips, mushrooms, spinach, hummus etc - very yum and lovely presentation too. Would be a good stopping point for any vegan people on the hunt for somewhere to eat while on the drive south.

Really really good food, great hot drinks & wonderful friendly staff. You certainly won't leave here hungry and the prices are really good, value for money for sure.

Ordered flat white. It was one of the best coffees I have ever had. Friendly staff amd great experience. There is ample parking space for customers. Outdoor seating, indoor seating and back yard seating makes this place even more enjoyable. There is a small kids play house for keeping toddlers busy while the parents are busy eating. High chair service available for kids

The courtyard out the back can't be beat on a hot day, fully under a big shady tree it's a great place to cool off over lunch. Not the best coffee in town being a mainstream dark roast but light taste type but it's ok.

The big breakfast was nice and the coffee is good. Service was polite. I would go here again. The breakfast here was better than a flash cafe I had breakfast at the day before.

Nice coffee. My muffin had the consistency of a scone, which was too dense and dry, yet doughy. Hope this is one-off.

What a breath of fresh air and magnificent vegan breakfast, beautifully presented, light yet full of goodness, chef and front of house staff wonderful hosts and hope all goes well for young woman who cheerfully, listened and hot it right!!

Creamy mushrooms were divine. Milkshakes made the old fashioned way with real ice cream. Will definitely stop there again.

We were served by a lovely bubbly woman who made us feel very welcome. The food and drink was delicious and the facilities clean and comfortable. Anyone travelling through Tirau should stop in here.

The ice mocha was absolutely amazing! It's serve with a scope of vanilla ice cream.

We have kids and a small dog, so we are always looking for kid friendly and dog friendly places. This place has a good kids area with lots of toys for them to play with. They have a sign for dog water out front with an ice cream container of water for them (it would be better if they had a real bowl). The coffee is always good. My husband said the sausage roll was excellent. I really liked their fresh vegetarian salads, they had two options when we were there and both were great. I hope they keep continuing to have 2 or 3 or 4 salad options. They had kids meals, which was a food item, chips, and some cookies (would love to see some healthier options though, maybe fruit or a fruit bowl instead of chips, maybe grilled cheese or mac'n'cheese or noodles instead of fried hot dogs or chicken nuggets). We could eat with our dog in the front of the building, but not where the kids play; it would be great if we could actually be closer to the kids or a dog friendly area out back away from the traffic, as there were a lot of people with dogs there and when the tables out front were full, they needed to keep walking, as no other tables were available for them. So overall, its got good coffee and a good place for kids to play. The salads are excellent. They also have dog water. Toilets were ok, but looked like they hadn't been maintained in a while, as the rubbish bins were more than overflowing. We would go back there.

Delicious chicken and bacon burger with curly fries, I also had a cold iced coffee which was perfect. Lovely friendly staff. Child friendly out the back and beautiful atmosphere with quite music playing.

Not a big range of cabinet food and a bit aged. Would be better in summer. Food was ok, nothing spectacular.

Lovely food and lovely staff

Friendly staff and a good selection of food in the cabinet as well as fresh cooked stuff to order. It's a bit big and empty, could do with a bit more furniture or fittings maybe. It's hidden away from the main road so a bit quieter than other options.

Fresh and healthy salads. Hot chips for the kids, big bowl, good value, play area, huge deck and courtyard area. We arrived very late in the day but were given some options of a customised meal as many of the cabinet choices had gone. Good coffee too.

Best scrambled eggs I've ever eaten! 👌Underwhelming from the outside, but don't let that put you off. The food is home cooked, hearty and sensational.

I don't usually go out of my way to chuck a review up but God dam. Get the big breakie!. I've had a few big breakfasts in my time and this has got to be the best. You won't regret it.

Friendly service, seats or soft bench, inside was nicely warm on a day turning cool and rainy. Scone served with pottles of whipped cream and more than enough jam. Particularly nice choice for a date with a significant other.

A pot of tea, served properly with real cups and saucers, A challenge: try eating the fresh, baked on the premises, Chocolate Brownie Slice without smiling. Highly recommended.

A very relaxed place to stop and get some fairly decent food. Great for small kids, with a slightly shabby and shady outdoor area, toys, and plenty of seating.

Stopped of on way north and glad we did. Easily the best coffee we had driving from Kapiti to Auckland! Good food well presented and good price. I drink black coffee and it always depresses me when I order an Americano and get a long black instead but my americano here was perfect. Nice thick layer of crema and hot water on the side. Will be coming back on the return leg
