A.Great coffee when we dropped by over lunchtime. The cafe wasn’t overly busy and staff maintained strict adherence to red traffic light protocols, emphasizing that we were to keep our masks on if at any time we left our table. The outdoor area had plenty of space for social distancing!
Great to see so many family groups at this cafe, with kids happily playing in the playground while their parents enjoyed their meals.
刘.We were well taken are of and placed under the halogen heater in today's freezing weather. It was so toasty!

S.The best breakfast I have had in a long, long time! The sausages were award winning from the local butchers, the bacon was manuka smoked and cooked crispy rather than limp and uncooked. Free range eggs, sour dough with actual butter and not margarine and a delightful relish to go with. Highly recommend :)
R.We came here on Saturday for food. We were told by locals that it has a bit of a reputation as having 'a security guard' on the front door but the food was meant to be amazing. We were met by a lady with shaved hair and pigtails who was meeting, greeting and seating people. We didn't have a reservation and the cafe was really busy - I wish we had rung ahead! The lady was so rude to us, making our party all feel unwelcome.
We eventually brokered a table and a lovely lady with blonde hair served us. The food was amazing and our waitress was so polite, It should have got a 5 star review. The lady front of house needs a lesson or two in customer service and is letting the place down. We would not go back if she was on the door as she made us feel like we were criminals.
Such a shame as it has everything else going for it!
W.Great service, very through with the Covid checks which was great as everywhere else we have been it has been a bit slap dash. We ordered Blue Magic & Green Room healthy smoothies - they were out of this world!! I had the full Kiwi breakfast and my partner had the French Toast, Boy both meals were cooked to perfection and using the best ingredients including a local chocolate shops chocolate And the best sausages I have tasted, all from the local butcher! Great beachy vibe and we will deffo be back!

Too many cafes are putting there own spin on the classics, they've lifted the bar and left this establishment serving frozen hash browns.
D.What a great place to eat and drink. Food was very good as was our waitress. Inexpensive menu .Pleasant outdoor area. A return visit will be planned.
N.Great little spot, friendly staff. Good option if traveling through, large classic kiwi-ish menu selection with gf, df and vegan options. Corn fritters quite dry but otherwise nice meal.
L.This is the best. Love the people and the food. I always plan my trips around their opening hours as I am so disappointed if I miss out. Thanks always for the fun even when the power is out they still manage to rustle up a feed!
V.We've been here a few times and always love it. This is a great place to stop and get good food and drinks. Great outdoor area, heaps of parking and beautiful decor inside. Friendly staff, kid friendly and clean toilets. Playhouse for the little ones to enjoy. A bit overpriced but good portions. We love scones with jam and cream from this place.

M.Love going to Surf Shack! My fave has to be the loaded wedges and iced chocs, 1000/10! I did though venture out and try the scrambled eggs on toast and added bacon on for $4, sadly im not really impressed with these 2 small strips of bacon! My eggs were a bit overcooked for my liking, but that is a fault of my own as i should of said i wanted them soft scrambled! whoops! always good quality food here and service is as fast as can be! as a hospo worker myself i understand the busy times, keep up the good work guys!
L.Lovely lovely food and coffee. We had the bacon buttie with added tomato - the bread was stand out amazing but everything was delicious and packed with bacon - for $14 it was very generous!
We also had the kiwi full brekkie. $25 worth it!! The bread, fresh eggs, bacon and award winning sausages.
Coffee was amazing.
Only downside was there was a bit of a wait for the coffee but it was midday on a Saturday so that’s fair enough!
Defs check this out when you’re in Waihi and don’t let the wait bother you! It’s well worth it
A.Absolute screamer of a cafe. Some of the best food we have had In a long time and we eat out a fair bit and consider ourselves to have high standards. Everything was delicious and well presented and is now my goto in waihi beach. The ha-waihi burger and pancakes were of particular note. Just go.

The menu is extensive, lots of options, the food is to die for! I ordered the philly filo parcel? my God it was good 🥰 and the salad that came with it was soooo yum, not your normal salad, loved every mouthful, also ordered a side of fries which were cooked to perfection nomnomnom!
The friend I went with ordered the blue bom? I swear she closed her eyes with every mouthful, a look of sheer bliss on her face 😆
I cannot fault this place at all, highly recommend it to all.
I will definitely be going back and will be dragging other friends with me 😃

J.Hadn't being here for a while. Staff were great, even those getting trained. Altura coffee was hot and tasty. We had the corn and palenta fritters and the breakfast burrito. Burrito was massive, tasty and a great start to the day. Definitely will be back again soon.

L.Hearty bacon, buttery eggs, and cappuccinos so frothy they might have just come out of a cow's udder. The understated décor channels the kiwi simplicity of yesteryear. The service is perfectly acceptable but unambitious—it's one of those "order at the counter" places.

L.One of the best places to eat in town. Even one of the best cafes in NZ.. Both the breakfast and lunch menus are equally as good. Vegetarian and vegan friendly. Very friendly staff and chefs who understand their food. Whichever item you choose to order, the chefs have thought about it. Regardless of how simple the dish may be - pancakes, breakfast burrito, burger, nachos, tacos etc. Also great cabinet options. The plum tart was amazing. Below is the breakfast burrito, but I have tried many things on this menu. The only thing to be aware of is wait times, as they can get busy. But it's worth the wait if you're almost wanting to guarantee good food. Fairly sure it's won reputable awards.

c.Loved the choice of a Mexican brunch, my favourite! Lots of lovely staff. Water delivered to the table. Busy yes, but that’s because it’s so good. Value for money because I’ve paid $20+ for brunch and been disappointed, but not here. Excellent stop for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Highly recommend.
R.A funky little place with an interesting and curious menu, ridiculously large portions so don't order too much and best go there when you really have an appetite. I was very impressed with my burrito and everyone at the table was quite happy. It's delightfully dog friendly, including clips for dog leads on the big outside tables.

J.This place has a really awesome vibe. It's very chill , beachy , holiday vibe. The staff were really nice and accommodating and given that Waihi was in Level 2 at the time, they were doing a really great job at sticking to the rules ( probably one of the only places we went to on our trip during that time that were ) we both had the kiwi breakfast (I may have gotten the name wrong ) but it was sausages, bacon , eggs etc the whole lot ! It was simple delicious food. Nothing super duper fancy but the portion was great and the food one but plate was super yummy. Great place for a big feed! Highly recommend

A.Fun Cafe because it's located beside an airstrip and only a flat 5 minutes walk to the beautiful Waihi Beach. It was fun to watch Police7 aircraft arriving for the Pilots quick refreshment. Sunny location, I enjoyed a beautiful fresh raspberry muffin. Great coffee!
J.Love it! Great food and coffee, and very dog-friendly, with water bowls, and hooks for the leads. They even give me little bags of sausage pieces for my puppies. Much appreciated.
S.Today my friends and I experienced a great time at this Cafe. The Pancakes were beautiful, the Toasted Sandwich with mushrooms bacon etc was tasty the coffee was delicious and so was my Green tea. Service was great 👍

K.I took my mum here during the week and so glad we made the effort to drive out from Tauranga. Well presented and a great range of cabinet food to choose from as well as a great menu. Lovely staff who even offered a ‘doggy treat bag’ for my mums puppy. We sat out in the veranda area which is decorated with a great beach vibe. Food and coffee was really good, definitely be back again.

C.My family visited the Surf Shack for lunch on Saturday the 10th of October and we all absolutely found the experience exceptional! The food and the presentation was gorgeous. The lovely friendly staff made our experience even better. It wasn't a very warm day but they had outdoor heating which was warm and cozy 😊 we will be back. Thank you from the McCarthy Whanau ❤

M.We ate here a couple of days ago and loved this place. Awesome menu with lots of options, we got burgers and they were delicious. Coffee was really good too! The outdoor seating area is lovely and dog friendly and the staff were all fantastic. We will definitely be back next year (on our next holiday up here).
m.Group of 13 people. We had: big breakfast, mega caramel, blueberry and salted caramel pancakes.
Smoke Salmon fillet and King Prawn salad, loaded wedges, toasted sandwiches.coffees all round and fluffies for the kids.
WOW. Service is beyond excellent, food is even better. For anyone who's passing through Waihi needs to stop and support these guys. 11/10

V.A great stop over for lunch with ample parking, the best burger ever (Lonely Planet was right) and an amazing spread of seafood servings and salad. We love the ambience and to top it off, warm friendly service. Tali was such a sweet server, she completed our meal 😁

R.Such a cute place! Great staff and quite a menu selection. I actually went for a bagel with salmon, cream cheese and capers - it was perfect. My friends had scores of other food so I got to also try the beer battered fries, pulled pork tacos and a bit of burger. Great little gem!
J.This place has slowly changed and evolved over the years. Its gone from the pancake house as I remember it to the surf shack. They still serve massive pancakes (sweet and savoury) with plenty of other meal options aswell. I tend to go for the snack size pancake which is plenty big enough for me. Highchairs available and a good kids menu. There's also a family toilet with change table available.
H.UPDATE: Hands down the best food in the Waihi area. The street & international food is to die for!

O.The big pancakes here are spectacular. Almost tried everything on the menu now through my never ending visits. Every dish is an 11/10 and value for $ is amazing. Staff are great and even whilst busy, food is quick and convenient!

R.Thoroughly enjoyed the spicy deep fried squid with fries. Hubby ordered the large bacon and banana pancake and it was cooked to perfection. Boy was he surprised at the size when it arrived! My daughter ordered the pancake with fruits but we didnt realise that the fruit was a fruit flavoured syrup. That, plus a topping of ice cream was way too sweet for her liking, so she could not eat it after a couple of bites which was a shame. We also ordered the choc thickshake. This was super rich and a welcome to us on such a hot morning. The only upset we had with it was that the reusable straw was not cleaned properly and on the first sip, I had to spit out a chilli flake and peppercorn that had been stuck in the straw.
The kids loved playing in the play house. Its nice to come to a cafe that is family friendly and has colouring etc to keep the kids occupied. Cheers.

J.Good, but not great. Came here for a weekend breakfast because it had won a people's choice award. My big breakfast was decent, but sausages were disappointing (lacked flavour, and seemed cheap). My companion described his breakfast stack as "pretty good". Staff seemed nice, and the place has a bit of character.

M.We went here today. It was a miserable day and this cafe was really busy. A lady gave us menus and assured us there would be a table available shortly.
True to her word there was! We ordered a bacon sandwich with avocado and lettuce and the Ultimate Toastie.
Both meals were presented very well and all the ingredients look fresh.
There was sooo much bacon in the sandwich and the sauce was delicious. My partners toastie was huge with a mountain of melted cheese. It would be too much for me but he really enjoyed it.
The service was fast and efficient and the price tag more than reasonable especially considering the size of the portions

M.Great food,great service.They had staff away and were very very busy.The website said book.We did but numerous randoms came in without bookings.They were all seated after a small wait.They were very lucky, but that was the staff obliging.Vaccine passport required.

Ein wirklich nettes kleines Café nicht weit vom Strand. Das Essen hier ist wirklich sehr gut und kostet das preisleistungsverhältnis ist sehr gut. Alle sind super freundlich und nett, man fühlt sich hier einfach total wohl. Definitiv einen Stopp wert, wenn man schon mal in der Gegend ist!
