Historic cafe that makes you feel like you've gone back in time. Good food, great coffee, and friendly service complete the package. Highly recommend for a stop, even if the train isn't running.

Pros: great location, convenient parking, many tables inside and outside, good atmosphere, and fantastic coffee. Cons: very crowded near the train time, no iced coffee, a bit pricey cabinet food which was very basic and not appealing, uncleaned tables. Conclusion: I would go back there just for coffee if I were in the area.

Lovely cafe, conveniently located inside the station. Awesome flat white! There is a warm room inside with tables and seats and outside seating as well. Plenty of options to eat, ice cream, fizzy drinks and other refreshments. There is a large car park just in the entrance and bike racks. If full, you can park just across the street. From here, you can walk up to the museum. Worth a visit to enjoy and relax a little.

What a lovely part of the Waihi/Waikino train ride experience! Compliments to the chef at this quaint historical Cafe! The food was fresh and delicious. And without a word of a lie, their lemon cake was THE best I have ever had!👍✔💯👌😀 I can highly recommend it! It was FULL of flavor, tangy & moist without being stodgy. I chose to have it with yoghurt to compliment it ( which was absolutely 💯 perfect for it as they had cleverly added a touch of lemon curd in the centre of the yoghurt! 😁). So the tangy bite from the lemon curd with the smooth flavor of the yoghurt was absolutely AMAZING! 👌😃 P.S- You REALLY need the whole historical experience so, do the train ride and enjoy the atmosphere with Gavin and the rest of the team. I thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it!🙂

Well to honest I have never ever thought about stopping here, but with the world like it is taking the train and having lunch or afternoon dinner is well worth it. The train ride is a nice change of pace, and best of all your 4 legged fur baby is aloud to ride as well, and cafe has a nice green area to let them to relive themselves (just remember to pick up after them), also has water bowls as well as. This gem is cool. Fun for the whole family.

Stumbled upon this unique cafe which also has a train station. The train does operate from this place. The price and schedule is up for display. The train ride is meant to be a fun ride especially for children. The inside sitting arrangement looks like a train compartment. The menu is quite comprehensive for a cafe and decently priced. We ordered a Kumara Slice and a Spinach and Feta Roll. Taste wise both were ok. But the experience of sitting on a train station platform and having this meal was quite an unique experience. Also there are few props kept on the platform just to get the experience of a train station. A 5-star worth cafe just for this unique experience !!

The theme of this cafe is very unique. It has the theme of a train station and you won’t find that anywhere else. The location of this Cafe is also quite close to the Karangahake walks in the area. I really liked the food here. It is so tasty and made with such care and perfection. It’s some of the best cafe food I’ve ever had. The Waikino Station Cafe also provides of some local history and also clean bathrooms. I can’t wait to come back again.

Great bike ride! Left from Waihi Station and biked just past the tunnel (approx. 10 miles) Beautiful scenery, pretty easy riding, and fun things to look at. The tunnel was WAY cool, but we had to backtrack a bit to get to the train. We rode the train back to Waihi Station. Fun ride!!!

Delightful venue reminiscent of the past.... it is lovely to see the Waikino Railway Station being used as Cafe and of course the Goldfield Mine Train which takes you on a half train ride into Waihi Town. This cafe venue has been in use for some years... I have been here several times before for breakfast and lunch and I will be going again.... if you are going through the Karangahake Gorge don't drive past, Stop!

Lovely historic building and nice food. Only downside was the staff member who was very rude when we asked if the gluten free toasted sandwich could be cooked safely for our coeliac daughter on a separate clean pan. Totally cranky about it which left a sour taste in our mouths. She did eventually offer to cook it on baking paper on the shared pan which we were totally happy with, but it wouldn't have been difficult to do that with some good grace and without making us feel like second class citizens. Second time here - we love the rail trail and train - and the same thing happened the last time. Such a shame.

Quite expensive - but they have a fire place to warm yourself on a cold and rainy day. They have a separate shop where you can buy colddrinks and water - and some fresh pies and chocolates, if you dont want to spend too much at the café. There are toilets available with wheel chair access and there are some cute things which are strategically placed on the stations platform while you wait for your train to come along!

A lovely cafe situated in waikino railway station. We came in winter and really loved the open fire ,we sat next to it twice ...we came back cos! it was so nice and cosy. The coffee was excellent and they had a delicious looking selection of freshly baked cakes.. A lot of people come here to go on the railway to Waihi. You can buy your tickets and then have a coffee or stay for lunch...

This is ALWAYS my first stop on my trips south!!! The atmosphere - from the wonderful open log fire in Winter to the breezy Summer- and the welcoming attitudes of the staff, is always a treat! Plus the food is varied and delicious! You are never felt rushed, and it's a great venue to replenish energy!!!

A quaint cafe with delicious food and drinks. Whilst waiting for the train or picking up bicycles to ride the Hauraki Trail this is a great stop. Our family- 6 adults and 2 boys started our Rail Trail ride here on 24 December 2019, had a much needed coffee and hot chocolates as we waited for the rain to clear and thoroughly enjoyed the comical touches in the cafe. Lots of parking and good clean facilities- all necessary for those riding or walking the trail.

This place will always be a five star experience for me. My Nana used to bring my brother and I here on the regular when we were growing up, now I get to bring my own kids here. Bit more costly than I remember (about $48 for our family of five, x2 adults and x3 under 5). In all honesty, I'm happy to pay anything if it helps fund the maintenence of this place and keep it going forever! The staff are all really nice and very patient with the littlies, everyone was happy and smiley which is fantastic. The train ride is always a delight and I still get a little thrill when cars toot on the way past, haha. Grab a bite at Waikino station before returning to Waihi. I would suggest just cabinet food if the train is particularly busy as there can be quite a queue. We got pies and coffee and they were both tasty.

We found the Cafe quaint with locally made souvenirs for sale there is plenty to look over, buy your train ticket and sit at the bench tables on the platform while waiting for the train to arrive. The station provides a carpark, toilets, bikes for hire and information on the Rail Trail.

Ideal location provides the perfect excuse to break your bike ride up the Hauraki Rail Trail. Try not to arrive just after the train from Waihi disgorges a couple of carriage loads of passengers. A little expensive but delicious food and ample portions.
