Reviews of Home Cafe
T.
Great local. Coffee is good and cinabuns are better! Service is always with a smile.
C.
The best scones!!!! Always great service and this is evidenced by how full it is. Morning tea time seems to be especially busy
R.
Cheese Scone Review : Boldly, Home have dispensed with any attempt for height, and are proudly low profile. This does have its advantages, giving more of a table top for a healthy cheese coating. There is an alarming red sash that could have been an overdose of cayenne, but relax, it's just paprika. Sadly a bit of a low crunch factor. No herbs. Evidence of flour manhandling, quite a dense texture. Not too much salt, flavour rather plain, but pleasing level of cheesing, and the paprika is adding a welcome hints.
Pretty good 74.

Cheese scones are slways pretty good. Coffee good and strong, just not hot enough for my liking! Cup is too small and the tide is usually out, not ideal considering the price.
Very yum counter selections though 😋
S.
I like Home cafe. Good range of cabinet food, lovely environment to sit in for a bit. Coffee's on the expensive side. My main gripe is that every table always has a pile of dirty dishes on it. Every customer who arrives starts by moving someone else's dirty plates to make a space for themselves, and no one ever seems to come and clear them up or wipe tables unless you specifically ask.
S.
Great hot mochachino - always a plus. Loved that you could order breakfast as you want it-not from a set"this is it" menu. Lovely staff too
C.
Good place for a work coffee catchup. Delicious ginger kiss
s.
Super busy cafe, long wait for coffee and huge queues. Cool ambient and cozy decor. Spacious with high chairs and good menu.
M.
Great food, friendly staff, excellent service.
W.
Good coffee, great range of food for everyone and all wrapped in warm comforting environment of National Library. Can feel like home when your away from home.
P.
Very nice lunch, quick and friendly service. Nice decor.
C.
Great cheese scones and coffee. Staff need a cheer up… I don’t know if it’s the culture or if they are drastically underpaid but they all like they need to put a smile on their face!
K.
Home is such a great wee gem. The staff are always great and the coffee is good. The scones are local legend but the vegan scones are soooo good. Menu isn't huge but what they do make is delicious - you need to try the scrambled eggs.
M.
Pricey for pretty average food. Long wait. Nice spacious café with outdoor seating
S.
These guys have been my home away from home for coffee for the last 3 months while I’ve been here with the Australian Army. Great coffee, great people and great service.
D.
Highly recommend their scrambled eggs. Cooked perfectly (ie not overdone), & the relish on the side is delicious. Can sometimes be crowded, recommend you find a table first.
R.
Great place for breakfast in the morning. The breakfast is reasonable price and the staff are friendly. I'd definitely recommend this place as a must try.
C.
Been coming here for a few years now. Great coffee and am super happy there is always a decent selection of vegan sweet treats - the orange and date scones are amazing, like just get one. Heated. Nyom. Gets pretty busy between 11-1 but theres usually enough seating around and folk dont mind squeezing in. Some of the staff are wonderful super helpful and friendly, there can be a bit of a wait when its busy but to be expected
G.
Nice tea and very pleasant staff
P.
Excellent coffee and nice staff. When the $7.50 beef stew pie was still part-frozen, they were very apologetic and reheated it. That $7.50 pie had one small lump of meat, although the carrot and spuds that bulked it out were nice enough.
B.
Good coffee, food range is limited. Good off peak seating availability but very busy at morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea times.
K.
Always good for a coffee and scone
T.
Pleasant setting. Easy to get to. Prices appropriate for location (i.e. a little steep for my preference). Good food, but nothing special. Excellent coffee, my co-visitor declared. Good selection of teas.
D.
So many options for an afternoon sugar hit. Great atmosphere and reasonably priced. Ginger slice is amazing. Slowly making my way through the variety of cookies.
W.
I've eaten here a few times. Pleasant staff, nice surroundings, good coffee and great food.
T.
Good range of dairy free, gluten free and vegan food. Nice coconut lattes as well.
M.
Reasonably quick service. Nice counter food, slightly pricy but fair for an inner city cafe. Good coffee served with a friendly. Quite a formal feeling atmosphere but spacious and well lit none the less, perfect for a business lunch but perhaps not ideal for the family.
R.
A cozy cafe, yummi wraps, good coffees. I had a falafel wrap which was good for $7.50. Also had a large flat white $5 which I'll give it 4 stars. There are lots of coffee tables and couches for different tastes. Clean and warm place to sit for a bit of time and drink a cuppa coffee while reading your favourite book or taking a look at the news to see what's happening around the world.
D.
A destination for great food, exhibitions and He Tohu
M.
Ohh man their coffee is so good. Need to ask them what brand they use... their vegetarian menu is superior.
P.
Really nice, mod cafe housed in the government library building. Good opportunity to have a mooch round the library & musuem before grabbing a bite to eat.
J.
Good service. Nice atmosphere. Good range of counter food.
E.
One of the best food and coffee spots in Thorndon. Amaaaazing cheese scones and awesome cinnabuns. Great place to meet friends. Fine for work meetings but a relatively informal atmosphere.
T.
Nice cafe. Lots of punters which means it can take a little while to find a space at busy times. I prefer the crumbs to go in the hand or the cloth rather than hitting the floor when wiping the table but it might have been a one off. Enough of a hoha for me to mention it though...
C.
Excellent staff, fantastic coffee and delicious cheese scones! Would recommend this place to anyone!
H.
My local, as it were. Always welcoming and they know my favourite things. Lots of different sweet treats are available, as well as yummy sausage rolls.
R.
Very nice Cafe in the heart of the National Library building. Great coffee and nice selection of food. Comfortable seating.
G.
Another superb local eatery for a great breakfast and consistently good coffee. Its key difference are its staff who are cheerful

Cafe is close to New World Thorndon if you want to get your groceries before or after.
Try to get there before 2pm so you will have a wider selection of food.

Good space and service. Nice variety of food, but sometimes no where to sit at lunchtime.

Watch out for the cutlery buckets. Picked one up by the handle and it dumped its clattering contents on the table and floor.
