Reviews of La Cloche - Central
m.
A little taste of France! Excellent place to have a good meal and the staff is always nice and ready to welcome you with a smile and a "Bonjour" 😊 no wonder they are always busy!
W.
Tried the beef bourguignon. Saw it on the blackboard outside. It was well worth the mouth watering order. Was having lunch with my son. He commented on the perfectly made coffee too!
C.
One of the coolest place in Wellington Central. Fastest service is always with a great smile and sexy French accent 😊
Try there a cup of your favourite coffee with an almond croissant - and you will feel a bit of Paris magnifique❤
H.
If you can’t go to France, let France come to you. Amazing range of authentique and delicious French food - not a pain au raisin in sight. Recommended.
D.
La Cloche has quite a good menu! You can find the same food quality than in France.
And I fell in love with their Iced Moccacino.
All the clichés of rude french waiters disappear when you meet the staff. I got served by the curly brown-haired waiter, you can tell he genuinely enjoy his job.
Definitely recommend this place.
I.
Delicious food and great service! I really loved the salad with goat cheese, really yummy. And the waiter was very welcoming and kind.
s.
Great vibe, comfy space arrangements, you don't need to hold a number they get ur tablebwhen u order. Quick and easy order, fast delivery of food to ur table. Awesome range of desserts.
A.
Nice food but can be quite expensive. When you order a baguette they offer to cut in in half for you so it’s like two meals. Yummy baguettes
J.
Good coffee in an easy café environment. Cabinet food looks and tastes superb - mostly traditional French fare with a few modern hints, great for an over the top treat or a delicious sandwich/baguette/bap/croissant.
w.
Genuine food you may only find if you look them up or. Travel to parts of the world to enjoy a space of heaven. With thee most delicious drinks to Seattle your moment in time.
H.
Friendly staff. Nice French patisserie. Best to come at off peak times to enjoy food and service. The place gets busy very quickly.
D.
French style food. Tasty selection of pastries.
Hard to find a place to sit down. I might be coming at the busy time. It looks like this place is popular. Had coffee and ginger/lemon drink a couple of times and tried few pastries.
Croissants are okay. Best pastry in my opinion chausson aux pommes !
M.
Coffee was a bit strong but delicious food, friendly service. Good breakfast place to start a day.
L.
What a wonderful experience, the coffee was great and the selection of food was amazing. The cakes were like a piece of art and tasted fantastic. I had the strawberry tart and lemon tart both were Devine. A must visit if your ever in the city.
C.
Always too busy for me but the food looks nice.
S.
Omnomnomnomnom. I'm going to have to come back to Wellington just for the croissants. ... And the pain au Chocolat. And the croque Monsieur.
H.
Excellent food choices. A little pricey but the quality of food and service are delightful and delicious.
R.
We had breakfast at La cloche this morning and the service and the quality is outstanding. They even made me an amazing vegan sandwich, that was not on the menu. Really appreciate it when a restaurant goes the extra mile. Thank you
S.
Amazingly lovely service. I only ordered a coconut milk latte ($5) so I can’t rate the food although the baked goods looked so beautiful. I would have given this a five are if the cabinet held a gluten & dairy free treat (but they’re rare in NZ). Loved the service, loved the latte - I’ll be back :)
P.
Went to this cafe for breakfast had baguettes with terrine it was delicious. Bread was fresh and tasty and the terrine was fantastic. Came with pickles and we had a ball. Coffee was delicious and had more than one. Their cakes and pastries are sublime. Will return when next in Wellington. Great atmosphere and friendly service.
L.
Enjoyed the French style food, erfect boiled eggs, helpful staff, and good coffee, and thanks to train stoppages the morning I visited causing my friend to be late, I spent two hours in the cafe. However the old school chairs were not conducive to such a long visit. The place was buzzing all morning with staff greeting many regulars by name, so I didnt get to move to one of two tables that have foam bench seating. The seats are the only thing faulted for the stars.
M.
Good service. Tasty selection of cakes.
N.
Awesome service - arrived waaay after lunch time and they nipped to the nearest shop to get more greens so I could have the salmon salad - which was Devine! Perfect little spot, easy going atmosphere - lovely Libertine Blends minty ohm tea. Will be back!
C.
Great coffee, plenty of selection in terms of pastries on offer. Was in a group and others had the almond croissant, good reviews! There was 1 vegan/vegetarian thing on the menu plus quite a few gluten free options. It was pretty busy, fair amount of seating inside with lots of counter window seats. Was pretty noisey too. Staff were friendly enough. Some on street parking nearby.
D.
Like most things in food, the simple things done well will speak volumes for the rest of the menu. With this notion I usually order a black coffee and plain croissant to gauge the quality of a French cafe. The coffee at La Cloche Central was smooth and rich with no harsh undertones or trace of burnt. The croissant was reasonably light and flaky, with a crisp outside and soft buttery inner, a hint of sweetness which was a bit unusual. Overall both were nice, will be back to try more from the menu.
A.
Nice coffee! Quick service.
P.
I ordered a plat du jour off the chalk board menu. I had stopped reading what was in it at sausage and bacon when I ordered. For $20.00 I imagined something like a kiwis "big breakfast". What I got was a small green salad and a small ramekin containing baked beans, 3 thin slices of a small sausage and a piece of bacon about the volume of my thumb. Service was excellent and staff immediately noticed my surprise at what was brought out. I was offered another meal if not happy. Coffee was excellent. Next time, I might just order from the bakery counter.
N.
Would have given 5 stars if the coffee wasn't so bitter and strong, however it's probably 'French Style' coffee! I had an almond croissant which was to die for. The service was delightful. Merci :)
C.
So spoilt for dessert choices. Ended up with the Tahitian, deliciously coconut based with creamy centre. Sweetness just right! Paired with one of the better flat whites around. The French accent on our host added a touch of je ne sais quoi. Definitely returning. Creme Brulee and Opera looked divine.
R.
Always delicious cabinet food - sometimes difficult to chose. Coffee is always good - a regular for us - Hutt Rd or Featherston St. Staff always bright & cheerful. Recommend if you like Gallic cuisine
C.
I'm not a coffee person. Ordered Green Tea, price was on par with other places. The pastries looked delicious. Lots of people in and out, so it seems very popular amont the office workers.
N.
Lovely cabinet food. A very popular coffee catch up location. Was very noisy however, so very hard to have a conversation without yelling at each other.
L.
Delicious food and lovely staff
M.
I'm a big fan of this branch of La Cloche. The food is invariably good, as is the coffee. What keeps me coming back is the incredibly friendly staff. They've been particularly patient with my efforts to resurrect my school-learnt French in an effort to 'use it or lose it'. They as yet have no specific term for 'Flat White' - 'Café au Lait' covers a multitude of different drinks. Luckily the baristas here know their stuff!
P.
I love this place..Staff are super friendly, great coffee, they have coconut milk which a lot don't and the cakes and food are works of art... plus they have bottles of water with lemon in free.. nice touch. Try and resist a cake if you dare...
P.
Pastries all look delicious, but experience spoilt by warming ham and cheese croissant in the microwave. Ruins texture, and the centre wasnt heated properly. Its one thing to provide speedy service but it should never compromise the end result, which it did here. A good cafe should always use the grilk, or oven
J.
One of the few places down this end of turn that does filter coffee. The sweet treats are amazing too! The lunch is ok. It pales in comparison to the original la cloche.
J.
Always amazing food and service
A.
To be honest, I thought better... not much choice of pastry and the taste is fine but not outstanding..
K.
Amazing food, coffee, and service!!
p.
Fabulous almond croissants and hot chocolate with super friendly professional staff. Everything is great here.
N.
Always consistantly great coffee & friendly staff ☕☕. Very tasty french food too. Best custard square in town!
L.
Great food. Really delicious! The coffee though needs a little adjustment for my taste :-)
D.
Nice atmosphere, great location and excellent coffee...haven't tried the food at this Last Cloche but the food at the other La Cloche on Hutt Road is very good. Would expect the same at this one.
S.
Not bad for a central city option, however sometimes the food seems to look a bit nicer than it tastes, I would recommend going to the kaiwharawhara one if you can, I enjoy that one more
A.
Nice afternoon tea here, ordered hot chocolate, tea, a blueberry mousse & a pastry between two of us. Everything was delicious 🙂
P.
Love this place and their delicious Opera. If you have a sweet tooth, you have to stop by and enjoy their patisserie.
G.
Good coffee, tasty pastries and very helpful staff. It does get noisey with bustling crowd and hard surfaces, but bearable
L.

S.
Great service, lovely atmosphere and a comfortable environment. The portions are quite big, and everything is fresh. I love how the water had lemon.
