Reviews of Level 1 Te Papa Cafe
K.
friendly service, clean environment, plenty of tables to eat there, lots of cabinet food and lots of selection of food to order, big portion of food, great prices, food taste so delicious and nice coffee.
A.
We had to ask for a menu as they were not freely available. There wasn’t a very great range of stuff to eat. We got French toast, large chips and soup.
$18 for the French toast we thought was a bit overpriced, with the a total price of $40, which we paid at the counter before being served. The French toast tasted nice but the toast was too thick. The chips were good and crisp, the soup had a good flavour but was too salty.
Two waitresses came to us at the same time, one on each side which we felt was rather intense. Apart from that we thought the service was good.
They have a good spacious play area for children near the toilets as well.
R.
A bit mediocre. Food relied heavily on salt for flavour. Pizza very mean on the passata snd as such let down. Service and coffee ok.
B.
As a tourist visiting wellington this cafe had a nice atmosphere. The coffee was well made and the food I ordered was tasty and not very expensive. Staff were friendly and welcoming when I received my food. I would definitely recommend Te Papa Cafe to anybody new to the city looking for a nice place to grab a bite to eat while getting to explore the museum itself.

Came here for lunch and had two poached eggs on some gluten free toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly and I wasn't charged any extra for the gluten free bread. At $10.50 I thought it was really good value. Great spot to have lunch if you want to spend the day at the museum.
H.
Food and service good here, but I had the special burger, very tasty but could be a bit hotter.
A.
Considering this is a museum, great facility and service. Good coffee and reasonably priced.
A.
Recently remodeled - it's a big improvement! Food is a reasonable price and very good quality. Heaps of room.
F.
We first went to the third floor cafe where there were no empty seats. They suggested we go to the first floor cafe. The queue was really long. I had to wait for 15 minutes. It was peak lunch time 1pm.
The attendant told me that food from the menu will take 15 minutes. Ready to eat will be served quicker. We had two tandoori wraps, which were quite tasty. My daughters had chicken balls and chips, the chips were fresh. The chicken balls were oily, and it was some mushed up stuff that didn't look or taste like chicken. They both barely ate the chicken. We had tiramisu which was very tasty, we also had chiaseed-coconut-raspberry slice which was also tasty. My daughter's friend had a vegetarian roll. There were not many options for vegetarians. With two drinks this all cost us 79 dollars.
P.
Good variety of food, I had the seafood chowder... very good with plenty of seafood. I noticed plenty of waiting staff being quite efficient in their work... but also noticed that even though they cleared the table of emptied plates, cups etc, they didn't pick up the dropped used servittes on the ground... I did mention it to the manager, and at that same moment, the customer at that table picked up the servittes. Just saying...

Can get quite busy during weekends specially around lunch time but they have a really good range to pick from. Atmosphere is good, place is clean and tidy (Thanks to their staff who always clean the tables without leaving used dishes etc for ages). And a big bonus having a good cafe next to museum and waterfront
C.
Pretty nice food and friendly fast service.
T.
Good seating for a large group, basic food, does cater to all age groups. But overpriced for a museum café.
J.
Lovely cafe. Friendly service, and very impressed with how they are doing things to comply with Covid safety. The food was very nice and well priced. A great feature when visiting the museum.
D.
Great food and there is a play area for the kids too. Food is of great quality and there is a decent selection to choose from. There was a wee bit of a queue to get served, but in all fairness we did see a cruise ship in the harbour when we were heading in, so we should have expected that. All up a great place at Te Papa
S.
Stopped off for a quick bite to eat and coffee. Cookies and cakes were still in good supply and the capuccino I had was very nice.
Nice decor now too, has seen a nice upgrade.
G.
I prefer not going here, but the kids often pin is into a corner. The food is overpriced and not that great. For example, the cheese scone is $4.30 and has the texture of bread. It clearly benefits from its location and from opening earlier than the museum.
If possible, go to the upstairs cafe. It's much nicer.
C.
Rude cashier nearly had us leave before ordering. Cafe has selection of hot steak pies and sandwiches. The crumpets were filling. Good for a bite while visiting Te Papa.
C.
I was very impressed with the prompt service, and the food was excellent, my steak was cooked to perfection, I recommend this cafe highly.
H.
An average score for its long black. But the location is unbeatable since it's inside the Te Papa where people come and enjoy the leosure atmosphere. Baceries look average and groups were there chatting, having afternoon tea. Maybe we will come back again but not for their coffee.
J.
Great place to eat. Service is great
J.
Nice place for a good coffee and friendly service.
C.
Coffee was too strong, order was a little mucked up, but quickly remedied.
P.
Not really sure the The Papa cafe does a good job of selling New Zealand to tourists. More interesting Kiwi food would be good. I know they do a good line in pies but surely they could do better than that.
B.
Pretty good for a museum cafe.
You probably won't get great coffee or exceptional food, but this is a great place to get free wifi and a relaxed environment. It's a great place to study, search for jobs, or do some reading.
s.
Nice cafe, just inside te papa museum. Nice quick options to choose from, lovely space, friendly staff.
E.
Had a vegie pie, it was ok, quite large pieces of potato in it which isn't my favourite thing, but the pastry was delicious. $10 for a pie and a drink, not super cheap but not that expensive either really.
R.
Don't know if it was because it wasn't busy but after ordering our food n drinks, our meals were ready after 5mins.
Excellent, thank you.
R.
Very good coffee, very helpful service while waiting for Te Papa to open

Okay breakfast this visit was better than the last time maybe because it was in the morning and not the afternoon food it what you would expect from a captive cafe not cheap but average staff service was okay but there was not many people so you will expect better service

(Translated) This museum is so amazing, the history of New Zealand is presented so interesting (Maori culture). Wellington is worth it for that alone.
And on one floor is a coffee with delicious cake and, as always in NZ, something hearty too.
(Original)
