The DomPost had been promoting cheese scones from various cafes, and this is what drew me in. I was not disappointed. Who would have thought to include a little bit of chilli in the recipe? Absolute magic! I understand Machete's proprietors recommend having thier cheese scones with jam, and i will, next time. I gave a second scone to my immediate neighbour, and she was suitably impressed. Moi also had a slice of banana loaf to go with a flat white, and i will be returning for another visit. Top notch!

One of the best cafes in Wellington and certainly my favourite. It's got everything going for it: Amazing coffee variety, delicious treats, a sublime atmosphere, fantastic staff and a seriously cute little doggo!

Simply said—this is the best place around, and is a known as a destination for great coffee in an over-caffeinated capital. I've yet to have anything less than a perfectly-made coffee at Machete; an act that is truly appreciated because the coffee itself is incredible. On top of their wonderful beverages, their service is fantastic. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and always happy to help. Highly recommended.

Amazing coffee, excellent service and the hadmade marshallow with the lemon rind bits in it were yumm. Will definitely visit again for the marshmallow brownie . I think this will be my go to coffee place from now on.

We came across Machete whilst trying to decide what to have for lunch. There Tacos are truly amazing, made fresh in front of you and I do also recommend the soup of the day with the delicious cornbread. If you have room left they also have a selection of slices to choose from to go with the Supreme coffee. The staff are efficient and friendly. A cafe that is warm and comfortable on a winters day.

Always love coming here on my day off. Owners are so amazing. Get a single origin hot filter or cold brew. And the tacos and campfire brownie are so yum!! 🤤

On this trip to Wellington I tried 6 different cafes all at least 4 stars. Machete was the best all round cafe. They use Supreme label and blend and they make are really outstanding flat white. There Tacos are really good and make a refreshing change from standard and mostly boring cafe fare. Staff are efficient, friendly and busy at the peak times. The cafe is warm and comfortable. This is now my go to cafe in Wellington.

I don't say this lightly, but this place is hospitality at its finest. Great customer service (and they make an effort to learn the names of regulars), never been disappointed by the coffee and the cabinet food is top notch (donuts to die for!)

5 stars for the coffee alone! Go here instead of the big known cafes for coffee. Top tier consistant delucious coffees in town and offers coconut (best) and almond. High ceiling and good lighting lend to a very relaxed atmosphere. I have yet to eat here.

**Reviewing everything but the coffee** Machete is the kind of place that really makes you appreciate being in Wellington, where unique establishments can flourish. The setting is immaculate and clean lines all over, the food is delicious. The salsa is something else. I couldn't get over it. The guac was okay, a little bland, but because I'm a millennial I'll never turn an avocado down. Of course the food mostly shares common ingredients and components, but that just means the food gets out quicker to you. The sodas were refreshing. I really enjoyed the recommended Hibiscus one. All in all, a really pleasant experience. Will be back to try their coffees.

Staff were super friendly and helpful. Excellent coffee, didn't order from the menu but it looked like there was a decent selection. Got sparkling water which was a nice bonus. Lots of seating, nice and spread out too. Very limited parking options nearby but that's such a minor thing. Will definitely be going back

Best espresso in Wellington. I know that's a big statement for this city, but they absolutely nailed it on my visit. Great equipment - EK43 & Slayer combo, as well as a range of pourover options. I really enjoyed the fact that Paul was experimenting with different extraction pressures and preinfusions to get the best out the beans and highlight different flavours in the cup. Friendly, knowledgeable team who clearly love what they do. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.

You’ve got to try the brekky here! Try Cesar’s silky scrambled eggs with chorizo mince or spicy mushrooms. I’m making my way through this Central American inspired menu and haven’t been disappointed yet. It is a hidden gem in Wellington and well worth seeking out. Paul makes great espresso based coffee which you can try with one of the array of home made treats. All this in really cool surroundings.

5 stars for the show and 3 stars for the food and drink. The enchilada did not give the appearance of being put together recently but was edible. I can recommend their shrubs but they could tone down on the vinegar. The best part though was the Basil Fawlty impersonation given by the owner/manager. I was overcharged for what I had and got a refund but not without a show reminiscent of the restaurant at Fawlty Towers. There was a Manuel on the till who had some difficulty sorting things out. Along came Basil to the rescue with 21st century abuse even to the extent of following me out of the café to swear at me. Never mind, but somebody else who was in their 70s and less resilient than I might have been a bit shaken. A 5 star show as was the original. A reply to the owner Actually there was no ranting except from you. The ingredients might have been put together at the time but prepared and bought some time ago. Three stars are appropriate for your food. Anyway your reply is revealing enough and when customers are abused "a la Fawlty" your potential future customers need to be warned of the possibilities.

I was disappointed with Machete. There were no tacos on the menu although there was a good range of alternatives but what most disappointed me was the service. The person who served us appeared disengaged and not very friendly.
