Reviews of Maranui Cafe
#.
A really special and amazing place! We came on an amazing sunny day, it was quiet and we managed to get a window seat. Luckily enough we could see a large pod of dolphins from the cafe!
Great view, great food and really awesome vibe to be in!
r.
Nice place to chill staff were friendly and helpful..food was great..woth a shot..would be odd if you not happy with your meal
R.
Great atmosphere, service and food- did I mention the view?
E.
Came here for a late brunch and as a Wellington favorite it never fails to deliver. We both had the eggs Benedict, one with bacon, one with spinach. We finished off with a pot of green tea and this delicious berry pineapple cake - the cabinet food is so beautifully presented and I must say the taste matches.
Great, personable service with yummy food and stunning views over the ocean - what more can you ask for?
W.
Gotta reserve seats during public holidays. The ambience was really cold! Nice view of the beach. Stuff were fantastic and loving their friendliness and quick service! Food was really great as well! Very recommended! Worth the visit and money for sure
K.
Stop here randomly after landing in Wellington early in the morning and have come here for breakfast every time I am in Wellington.
The cafe is amazing with a good menu, delicious food. We got the eggs Benedict and fresh free range on citabatta and hot drinks on our first visit which we enjoyed eating and drinking soaking up the amazing views.
We also loved the decor to this cafe.
Good staff and highly recommend coming here.
R.
Cool little place and can get busy but worth the wait, my personal favourite was the pancakes, banana and bacon stack, delicious 😚
D.
Always the best Wellington breakfasts and Egg Bennies, even 11 years after my first visit. Always a wait at busy periods but that's just part of it and well worth it. Still also the best savoury muffins in NZ. I can never find a match elsewhere.
S.
Great selection, lots of vegetarian and healthy options. Was busy midday on a Sunday, although we were seated quickly and food was served at a good pace as well. It was very noisy inside, and the music was loud too. Might be the acoustics of the space? Beautiful view of the ocean. Would love to go back when it’s a little quieter and sit inside.
S.
Wonderful place, with amazing views for the bay and delicious food. We ordered, Freyberg fish tortilla, a vegetarian salad and bloody Martha. All of it was great! The food was worth the wait.
M.
Over rated.
We did a 30 min queue + 10 minutes just to get to a table.
- Positive things: nice location, fish tortilla was amazing, also the steam
Mussels and chips with Aioli
- Warning: stay away from the smoked salmon bagel, only thing you’ll taste is cream cheese, not balance at all. Side of spinach was literally some small portion of steam spinach not even with dressing or anything.
- The service... we felt it was a little bit pushy in terms rushing us to order. However she (the waitress) was smily and professional.
C.
Had lunch with my daughter and granddaughter .Beautiful setting and the staff were just lovely - efficient and friendly. Our food arrived quite quickly despite the place being packed and it was delicious.
H.
A very busy cafe, great location and efficient service. Food was great but maybe a little on the expensive side for portion size.
J.
Great place to watch the waves especially after the polar blast. Great food, drinks and vibe. One of my many favourite places in Wellington for a good catch up with friends.
D.
The spot is one of the best locations you can imagine. Great view. Super flair and soooo goooog food. Love this cafe. But can be crowdy sometimes.
R.
Such a good spot. It's busy and you may need to wait ~10mins on peak but it's worth the wait! Really cool view, excellent service, sensational food, knowledgeable about allergies and especially gluten free.
Really great coffee. Highly recommend the mocha milkshake.
c.
I love my fish tortilla. Good coffee
F.
Absolutely delicious coffee my mocha was totally worth the price, a gorgeous view even on an overcast day, a little loud for an intimate chat but lively.
K.
Excellent eclectic cafe and wild in the southerly. NZ cafes not associated with a Chain allow the entrepreneurs to express themselves to create amazing ambience. Maranui excels.
D.
An iconic cafe to go if you’re ever visiting welly ! Gets really packed here but the view and vibes are really nice ! Food is surprisingly decent.
M.
Had a lovely breakfast here looking out at the frothy sea below us rolling onto the shore. Awesome seaviews from our 2nd floor cafe. The wooden staircase had a worn dip in the centre of each step. No doubt this Indicates how many feet have gone up & down those stairs....over the countless years.
C.
Nicely realised themed cafe. Good varied menu. Food was good. Excellent coffee
M.
There’s always a bit of a wait at the Maranui, however that’s to be expected for this Wellington institution. Great food awaits! My current pick from the menu is the After Swim Snack - smashed avocado on toasted sementi with grilled sweet tomato. Pair that with the amazing view over the bay and you’re in foodie heaven!
B.
Wonderful cafe above the surf club. Friendly staff and excellent food! Coffee is good but not perfect. Absolutely made up for by the fun decor and beautiful ocean views 🌊🌊
A.
Another gorgeous morning breakfast! Today my partner and I devoured the buttermilk pancakes and a savoury scroll (aubergine, zucchini & pesto). Phenomenally savoury, umami; the pancakes were fluffy; the custard smooth and the brittle crunchy and nutty.
So good.
I enjoyed the turmeric latte. My partner enjoyed the chai (it was a tad cool likely because it was made first).
N.
Maranui has long been. but now I am promoting it to BEST cafe in Wellington. Why? Staff. Good food, location… but it’s the staff who are the best. They have the knack of being good at their job - but also they bring this little extra knack of kindness with a wee bit of cool. Thanks guys, you are creating legacy memories at a Wellington institution.
J.
Constantly ranked in the best of Wellington cafés lists, Maranui keeps striving for better and better offerings and service! Always popular, so come expecting a small wait - often you’ll be pleasantly surprised, especially if you’re heading there late afternoon.
Staff are quick and quirky, ensuring that the café’s unique style is kept in place. An excellent menu ensures some of the best dishes in town. The quesadilla is a favourite as are all the vegetarian options!!! Don’t go past the cabinet food either, Maranui has a fantastic range of sweet treats made everyday and can often to gluten-free, dairy-free and even raw sometimes!
Most impressive, alongside great coffee to sip to a great view, is Maranui’s great range of New Zealand craft beers!! With North End’s superb Become the Ocean Gose, Boneface’s delicious APA, and Auckland’s Good Brothers Brewing’s India Pale Ale, you are spoilt for choice! The beer range alone is worth the visit!!
Go here for a great ambiance in one of Wellington’s now iconic cafés, where the cool surfer vibe will make you and any party (big or small) feel like you could spend all day there!!
A.
This place is an absolute gem, nice veiw of the sea and people surfing,I would strongly recommend the big brekki,I feel like they use quality ingredients, only reason why this place is missing a star is because of long wait times for a table and food which is understandable because they are busy and don’t have a large dining area.
Would highly recommend.
S.
Always a great meal, lots of fresh quality food. Big fan of the mushrooms.
You may have to wait on a Sunday for a table, but that's a great sign of a place where people want to be.
If you don't like noise, you may want to go elsewhere, as they fill the place up and people's inside voices are seldom used.
I always experience good service and the coffee is high on the best coffees for Wellington.
K.
The best scone I have had in my life. Bold statement, but true. Divine - perfect texture and flavour. Wish I had room for another.
江.
Wonderful ocean view. Food is above average cafe food but surely no complaints.
M.
Bliss! Just many simple pleasures.
Sitting behind the main window looking across the harbour entrance to Pencarrow. Delighting in very tasty sementi toast topped with avocado, grilled tomatoes and basil.
Served by staff who satisfied our every annoying request.
S.
Staff were prompt, service was really good. The food was incredible as was the view! Milkshakes are great too
R.
Always a pleasure to drop into this place. The service is usually spot on, warm and friendly.
The food is always attractive, wholesome and served in generous portions. An iconic cafe, with a well deserved reputation and wonderful views all year round.
M.
I ordered Houghton bay dish and it was just amazing and very delicious. Very well presented food with a great sea view. They also have perfect coffees with a great service.
I.
Food was fine. This is the salad, the three that were available in the cabinet. Reasonably priced, seemed small but not too bad. The ginger slice was good.
Nice location on the edge of the beach.
Very loud even when it wasn't busy.
T.
Great place, food, staff, vibe what's not to love
L.
Excellent food, beverage and service - a MUST if in Wellington. Memorable experience. Very popular, may have to wait to get a seat, bug table in middle of room good to sit at
M.
Eclectic dining spot right on the water. Great views of Lyall Bay. Breakfast is served late, which I had at 2pm. Fresh fish plate and mussels are excellent. Very good coffee as well. Service was prompt.
P.
A very funky cafe with an awesome vibe. Welcomed with friendly staff & the food was absolutely on point along with the beautiful outlook. Will definitely be back!

My future will mean much return until i is dead.
Even then as a ghost i will gaze at the plates of food and enhale aromas of deliciousness.
D.
Always good! Excellent coffee... consistently great! and amazingly attentive staff!
L.
Beautiful food and excellent customer service, highly recommended
B.
Great food, service, location and vibe. Thoroughly enjoyed brunch here.
S.
Always a great meal, lots of fresh quality food. Big fan of the mushrooms.
You may have to wait on a Sunday for a table, but that's a great sign of a place where people want to be. …
巍.
Love the environment, Nice food, especially big mushroom in the big breakfast !
J.
Beaut spot overlooking the beach and sea. Great friendly service. Awesome thick shakes perfect way to cap off the afternoon.
S.
Gorgeous view. Well-served sweety-fatty-salty-roasty mix of "standard" NZ casual food. Nothing impressive except the view. Standard range of prices. Sunday morning they were full and the place became very noisy. The desk is exposed to all Lyall Bay's winds.
If you're about to eat something delicately tasty, nothing to do there.
P.S. It's a bit personal, but my coffee was bitter and burnt (I wonder, if it is just Havana's roast style?).
R.
Great view and food. One of my favourites place in Wellington. This cafe is always busy, so be ready for a queue at the door and a long wait for the food. Still worthy 👍
P.
Great proactive and friendly service. Really enjoyed our time here on a misty Wellington weekend
J.
Definitely one of the better cafe's in Wellington. Serves the basic cafe foods, nothing special really. Coffee is decent. Wait times are always really long. The service staff are well trained, though, and typically make up for it.
P.
Great dining experience this afternoon with our group of 6 friends. My all day big breakfast was really yummy. Our waitress Lily looked after us so well!! 😁
D.
Always good! Excellent coffee... consistently great! and amazingly attentive staff!
M.
Great atmosphere .. sometimes long wait for food but view and ambience make up for it
H.
One of the best places for a good breakfast in Wellington! A wide range of breakfast goodies will let you start your day. A fantastic view of Lyall Bay and its surfers will complete this breakfast experience and will let you return...
But be aware, sometimes you'll have to queue to get upstairs to this breakfast heaven, especially on weekends.
B.
Great food, service, location and vibe. Thoroughly enjoyed brunch here.
A.
Excellent food, coffee and staff! Lines to get in can be long!
B.
10 out of 10. Perfect morning. Started it off with a beautiful organic orange juice accompanied by the basil, avo smash, fresh tomato on gluten-free toast, which although sounds like a simple dish, it was perfect for starting off the morning. Add a poached egg to the side if you're feeling peckish. All very fresh ingredients.
Finished it all off with an aromatic long black coffee with perfect crema.
Service was top notch. All in all a memorable experience.
J.
Always love going here. Pleasant staff superb food. Great being by the sea with great look out. Best place to take freinds from out of town. A must..
F.
Great view, popular and busy, good food!
n.
Superb environment for family n couples. Indoor or outdoor sitting. With the seaview right infront of you. Easy street parking along Lyall Bay.
Superb services by the ladies and gentlemans
R.
Good food with a nice selection of gluten free and vegan options. Wonderful view looking out over the ocean. It was a little chilly, and somewhat noisy, but casual and fun.
J.
Maranui has always been good. Located right on the beach in the old Maranui surf lifesaving club rooms, they deliver the "Havana-esque" food and drinks that we know and love.
They are always solid as a brunch choice, but at the weekends you'll need to arrive early, or except that waiting in a queue on the narrow stairs is all part of the experience.
S.
Just love this place and the food is always great!! The staff seem to like their job... and the service they provide shines as a result. The only downfall is it's so good that it's always packed and can get pretty loud 😁 the wait is always worth it.
M.
Location is awesome and service is also very quick. However food options are quite few, and coffee didn't taste that great. May be it wasn't my day 😉

K.
Nice spot. Food was good
J.
Yummy food. Great service. Don't be put off by the queue on weekend days. Things move quickly. And it's worth it!
M.
Great views and good food. Always bustling. Service responsive.
H.
Awesome cafe, good food, friendly staff. Very good atmosphere, totally worth a visit!
R.
Great view and food. One of my favourites place in Wellington. This cafe is always busy, so be ready for a queue at the door and a long wait for the food. Still worthy 👍
I.
Yeah not bad aye, I'm a fan of their big breakfast. Could be cheaper given the amount of food you get, but I understand that there is kind of a standard pricing for cafes. I was not disappointed.
V.
Perfect Milkshake and Breakfast !!
The view is also incredible !
I.
Best cheese scrolls ever!
R.
Top spot, great staff, be good to have a few more lunch options..
J.
Very yummy breakfast and coffee at a good price!
N.
The wait for the food is long but the view is lovely on a bright sunny day! (especially when the lifeguards are out training). The snickers milkshake is awesome!
C.
Always delicious, friendly staff and great service even when it is flat out. Love this place
N.
Great spot, often too busy so try one of the other great options in the area.
K.
Amazing food and service every time! Today I got the quesadilla and it was 10/10 👏🏼
V.
Visited Maranui for breakfast on our trip to Wellington. We got a table window side with awesome views of the bay. The service was attentive and courteous. The food was great as well. I will always have a fond memory of this place.
N.
What a fantastic place! The food is great, the staff friendly, the decor funky and ocean view stunning. I reckon this is my new favourite place. I totally recommend it.
L.
Beautiful food and excellent customer service, highly recommended
D.
Very busy, but worth a wait. Enjoyed brunch there on this particular day.
N.
Beautiful view and nice food. But, there are many customers. Please prepare for the waiting time.
D.
Iconic cafe with excellent menu and first class coffee. It has unrivalled views of the bay and there is always a great vibe inside. A short wait in the queue on the stairway is a small price to pay for the experience.
S.
Always worth the wait.
If you don't see a line on the stairs, that's probably because you're an early riser or it's after closing time. A true institution; the food is always as great as the views are beautiful.
The coffee here is a real A+.
The staff are so friendly, and really great at communicating wait times for food. Seriously, this place is always worth the wait, and the wait is a very normal part of coming here.
Great cabinet food too if you don't want to wait too long!
S.
Very popular cafe, you often have to queue for half an hour to get a table. Up flights of stairs, so no good for elderly, disabled, prams, etc. They had the Covid QR codes everywhere to scan (which was great) but no hand sanitizer to be seen. Meals are tasty, but nothing special. To be honest you're better off walking down to Elements Cafe.
M.
Great views and good food. Always bustling. Service responsive.
T.
Probably the best breakfast I've ever had. Definitely the best view with breakfast I've ever had.
L.
Classic brunch fare done well - the quesadillas are good! Extremely popular cafe - prepare to wait for a table
E.
Great food, coffee and view. Prices were a bit higher than I was expecting.
B.
Got seated quickly, food was about 30 minutes wait but well worth it. The food was fantastic, we had a large group who ordered most of the menu and the unanimous agreement was that the food slaaaapppppeeeedddd.
The coffee was also fantastic, although we have mixed feelings about the addition of peanut butter to the hot chocolate.
W.
Very slow to get the coffee but absolutely worth the wait. More for the effect of the coffee than taste, although taste good.
S.
Excellent food, nice atmosphere and a great view. What more can u hope for?
H.
Beautiful cafe with yummy food. Been here a few times now, each time they're packed. There might be a bit of wait that's why we always order drinks first. Food not pricey at all, sea view is just breathtaking. Customer service is superb. Highly recommend!!
K.
Packed as on a blustery morning coffee run. Awesome views, friendly staff and relaxed setting.
R.
Top spot, great staff, be good to have a few more lunch options..
J.
Had a pre-funeral get together there.
Appreciated the top deck. It was windy (but that's to be expected). Appreciated the option, as these spaces are becoming a necessity in these Covid-19 times. The staff were friendly and attentive, and we didn't wait long for the food and drinks.
S.
Great food and they were very happy to make her substitutions to accommodate my keto way if eating. Good vibes. Coffee was very average.
A.
First time here. Great spot to watch the surf as your waiting patiently for your meals listening to some good old school music. When the food reaches our Table it's amazingly delicious and filling. Thank you Maranui and staff for the awesome food and the outstanding service (Lana u Rock for getting my hubby hooked on the Amazing coconut Mocha u recommended 👍
J.
Amazing service, was advised of a wait and was welcomed to view the menu while we waited. Quality of the food was great! Milkshakes are delicious!
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a lovely brunch spot!
V.
Perfect Milkshake and Breakfast !!
The view is also incredible !
j.
It was a good choice to order the mussels, not sure about the spelt toast. I'd order sour dough next time. Others ordered pancakes, which looked great. Shared a few good slurps of a fabulous mocha shake.
J.
Yummy food. Great service. Don't be put off by the queue on weekend days. Things move quickly. And it's worth it!
T.
Great ambiance, friendly servers and delicious food. Price is fair for the full package.
I.
Came here for lunch on Saturday. Was a small wait but definitely worth it. The menu was great, lots of options. The food was fresh and delicious. The selection of cakes was amazing and the coffee perfect. Despite the busyness of the day coffee was prompt and hot, and the food came in a timely manner. The staff were very helpful and friendly. And to top it all off a superb view while you eat. Highly recommend.
G.
I love how this place is always buzzing. Lots of people but not so loud you can't talk across the table. If you get the right table the views are very cool out across the Cook Strait. Overall though this reminds me of old style milk bar type cafe with really good food. Portion sizes are generous.
P.
The food is always great. However it stayed freezing cold this visit - a bit of heating in winter would be nice!
A.
Great breakfast and service and view was lovely
T.
Love Maranui cafe. Either blowing a gale or still it's a lovely place to sit and watch the goings on on the south coast. Great coffee, substantial menu and easy parking. Go earlier to avoid a wait.
k.
Delicious food, really tasty coffee, wonderful milkshakes, lovely helpful and friendly staff, great decor & stunning views of the bay. A wee wait for a table and food, but considering it was a sunny Sunday lunchtime, what did I expect!? The staff made sure I knew about waiting times and the faster counter food options. Very impressed with their service. Defo worth a visit if you're in Lyall bay
M.
Awesome view great service great food. Not sure why it has taken me a yr to get here.
S.
Great view with amazing food. If you want to enjoy a delicious meal (or just a coffee) and want to enjoy the sea view then it's a perfect place. I loved the vintage style and all those beautiful photos and decorating. You have to wait a little bit but staffs are really friendly they will help you to find a sit.
R.
Always good, had the fish and one of their old fashioned thich shake (strawberry) overlooking the bay on a glorious midwinter lunch hour.
K.
A small wait to get in, but the hostess let everyone in line know waiting times. Got the best seat in the house. Coffee and caramel shake were the best! And enjoyed our eggs benny.
K.
A lovely spot for lunch overlooking the bay. The food was very tasty and there was a good variety. The kids menu offered several options and there is also cabinet food available too. It gets very busy so tables can become a premium at times. Lots of parking available right outside.
D.
Great little Cafe with stunning views. Food selection is good snd plenty of parking within easy reach. Fantastic milkshakes and smoothies.
M.
My family had such a lovely breakfast and staff where really friendly .Will go back again when next in Wellington. M
K.
Excellent coffee! Menu offered good healthy food choices, well presented food with great taste. Gluten free options easily catered for. Excellent service too. Toddler was even given crayons and colouring in book while we waited after ordering. Busy as, but would definitely go again on our next trip to Wellington.
H.
Disappointed with the person whom put her fingers in the keyboard and in my slice of chocolate cake at the same time. I paid and threw away. Thought I was lucky because I bought two slices, I tried to eat and threw away. Beautiful outside, no tasty at all.
But lunch time was nice the big breakfast.
I missed that they do not have soda (Coca-cola) but ok.
M.
Mmm...Underwhelming having taken a stroll from the CBD along to Evans Bay Parade and onto Lyall Bay. I was gasping for a welcoming coffee and 'eggs on something'. 'Awe bud, sit over there. We can get you a coffee now, but any food will take half an hour'. I sat with a lukewarm flat white in a glass, declined the half hour wait, and no chance of any Internet access either as the password was wrong. OK it was mildly busy, but not half an hour wait for food busy. Plenty of staff zooming about, but seemingly not enough to get the food out pronto. I know this is one of those Wellington destination cafes, but you gotta raise the game if you're charging near on 30 bucks for a brekky including a coffee.
D.
Fantastic location. Great breakfast.
A.
Came here with some friends for breakfast... There is a great choice of food here and the price is actually super reasonable.
The milkshakes here are also REALLY good.
I ended up going for the big breakfast which actually wasn't that big, but pretty damn good (apart from the random pesto and sun dried tomatoes) - not my favourite breakfast... But damn good none the less.
The staff here really are fantastic... Really friendly and will get you seated as soon as possible (and won't rush you out the door once you're done).
I would definitely come here in future.
C.
Another Wellington cafe with the right formula. You can tell as you walk in. It’s busy, the decor is quirky and different enough to create its own atmosphere. Staff, service and food all exemplary. Add a view of the beach, harbour entrance, airport and you have a unique spot destined to be successful and worth repeat visits.
B.
Was a lovely experience. We missed the lunch timing, but got a wicked deal on the milkshakes and fries.
T.
Food is delicious and coffee is amazing. Awesome atmosphere and decour inside. On a clear day, the views are amazing over Lyall Bay. However when it gets busy (which appears to be most weekend mornings) the service is slow, so expect to wait for your coffee and food.
L.
Great place, great food (thick shakes are the best) great service. Beautiful view. Busy on weekends so pre book.
A.
A very popular cafe and no matter what time you arrive it will be busy. Staff and friendly and inviting and will seat you promptly. Excellent menu with some tried and true classics as well as more modern fare. All is delicious. Coffee is superb. Has amazing ocean views no matter the weather. A must if you are visiting Wellington.
M.
Food was really good, big breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. I was told by my dining companions the coffee was good also.
Unfortunately the service was very unfriendly, I felt like an imposition.
J.
Great surfy vibe, good-sized meals and excellent service. Tip - get there early otherwise you may be queuing up the steps with the locals who flock to this iconic beach cafe.
C.
Lively beachside cafe with great food and beautiful views out to Cook Strait. Staff are friendly and efficient. Usually pretty crowded and noisy at peak times when you may have to wait for a table but it's well worth the wait.
H.
Cater for various dietary. Staff is friendly and a very nice view of the coastline
J.
Great as always, but bit of a wait at busy times.
A.
Had the crumpets this time which were excellent. The food and coffee are always spot on, hence the place is always heaving for weekend brunch. This is fine as long as you come early, the waitstaff are very efficient and helpful.
F.
What a view! What a location! Great food and service. Do not go here for a romantic dinner it is always busy and loud. Staff here deserve a medal they run around keeping everyone happy and the kitchen churns out meals non stop. Is a fun and quirky place
D.
Amazing food with an amazing view. WS recommended to try a milkshake. Was not disappointed. And all very well priced.
J.
Food, coffee, location...the best. Weekend days...you might be in a queue of people. 15-20 minutes but worth the wait
C.
Had gf avo smash - really yummy. Hubby had salmon and cream cheese bagel. Great service and setting is lovely, decor on the right side of quirky.
V.
Get in early and beat the queues for this must do Wellington brunch location! Awesome views, great food, very busy atmosphere, worth braving the cool deck if you want more room and to get away from the noise (also those tables are normally available during the non-summer months, cold blooded people take note!)
N.
My all time favorite breakfast place. Great food options and very friendly staff. Also love the sea view !
M.
We add a lot of pleasure having our lunch time there.
We had to wait 10 min before having a table but you know when it's good people like to come.
Friendly and nice service.
We have to wait few minutes more being served but really acceptable when you have kids with you.
The food was good!
Easy to park on the lyall parade.
We'll probably come back
P.
A great place for a coffee on the beach with great food and friendly staff.
v.
Pretty nice place right on the beach, but overall, just a rushed business like feeling, when I told the waitress my flat white was really strong she said "because it comes in a small cup". I wish the cups were normal size and the flat whites weren't Americanos. Won't be returning , plenty of other better places to eat and drink in Wellington...
R.
Great coffee accompanied by a yummy breakfast of bagel with black pudding for me and smoked salmon for my partner. Views of the bay were gorgeous! We will come back 👍🥓
A.
Evening visits here are nice (Friday/Saturday), the pizzas they serve are ordered in but really good. During the day at weekends it gets really busy but staff seem to be good at managing expectations as to wait times for seating and food. Also have really nice milkshakes.
M.
Always a favourite place! Staff lovely despite being busy as.
Yesterday my son was spontaneously given some marshmallows and a chocolate fish...he was sooooo happy. Bless the staff member who thought to do that!
AND the food is delicious!

Beautiful kitsch little café.
It's look is American diner meets seaside arcade. Lots of curiosities. Good for a date.
We sat outside on the modest terrace and enjoyed a coffee, hot chocolate, and piece of vegan chocolate cake as the waves rolled in. We watched the planes land and enjoyed the friendly service in this little sheltered nook.
A real fave. Didn't see the menu, though would recommend to anyone.

Was looking for a Cafe / Restaurant with a menu that used free range hen eggs as many in Kilbirnie do not in fact in the whole zip zone 6022. On the fore shore Beach Lyall Bay Parade not far from bus service facilities. In a building on the 1 st level with a steep set off stairs to climb. First impression was looks old, tired, and ragged, nearly gave it a miss. Decided to climb the uncovered wooded stairs inside with old Surf boat oars as hand rails. Different so gave me energy to carry on. Struggled with my walking stick and as I got near the entrance at the the top chattering voices hit the customer. Not just a few but dozens. Walked around to try and find a table but was quickly told by the young polite female matra "D" to join the que & she would in due course show me to a vacant table which there were not many. A choice of varing size tables, a couple of high bar ledges and out side balcony. As the chairs available where low chose the bar stool ledge that was empty with a wall to lean on as the stools did not have back support. The place was a buzz with all age groups plus children. Counted 40 there with 10 or more in the replacing que. People were arriving as fast as people leaving after eating. The staff observed were all experience as they handled the crowd, with politeness nothing seemed to bother them as they went about their tasks efficiently. Seating chairs were tired & old but that was quickly over looked by the surf lifesaving memorabilia on the walls, a preserved swordfish head in one corner & the light ceiling fittings shades made from rowing skiffs seats with holes in to allow the allumination through with plenty off other interesting used surf equipment, past boxing legends posters to make a interesting decore without it being cluttered or over done. Menu, with plenty of vegietairian choices, different from the norm bacon and egg, omelette style menus which their
menu would Cater for most people's tastes with plenty off side dishes at very reasonable prices to add to any of the menu listings or order on there own. Build your own dish as big as you like. I had the scrambled eggs without the dough toast which was when I came to pay was treated as a side order of 2 eggs scrambled at $2.50 a egg. Cooked to perfection and not over done with to much milk to make them pale and running to try and make the serving larger causing it to slide from your fork when trying to lift to eat. Solid non flopping non milky, and not a wobbly mess. Did not have tumeric or other herbs or spices to add but said if you have your own to add that would be Ok. Garnished tastefully not like some places no garnish or a floppy parsley trig. Well cooked so no fear of raw egg side effects or contamination. Observed numerous dishes being delivered to other tables well garnished and presented Did not see any dishes being returned or customers complaining, in fact every person seemed happy. In a restaurant when there is plenty of buzzing noise, chatter rather than people sitting there quietly it is a sign of a happy cafe / restaurant and customers. They offer a loyalty coffee reward card which earns one a free coffee which the coffee menu contains approx 9 different style coffees. Excellent children's menu with healthy choices. Whole Prepared foods, rolls, wrapps in the cabinets with interesting choices with healthy greenery, sprouts, wrinkled lettuce, kale, meats, roast mushrooms, chicken, different cheeses rather than Colby cheeses using whole grain toast breads rather than the usual sandwich thickness breads cut in half. Totally recommend this place. Saturdays they said they
are extremely busy which I found was true arriving early before 9.00 am thinking that their would not be many there. Not so as I found a que already happening. Whilst there the tables turned over another 30 or so customers and as I was leaving they were still arriving in 2and 4,s.
C.
Such good food, busy as so took a while for the food to get to us. They just took off the cost of the fries because of the wait. Didnt ask them to but a really nice gesture. Service staff are top notch.
A.
Food here is great and the venue is a classic Wellington hallmark. It's always busy, with people literally queueing down the stairs and onto the road just to get a seat during peak hours. The biggest problem is the service though. Staff are often completely oblivious to customers - one pretended to clean tables and then wandered aimlessly to avoid serving! Food will get forgotten at the pass, mistakes on orders, food not available for order even though you're not told beforehand. I hoped that this is a one-off experience, but I've been four times now and every time it's been the same. Good waiting staff could easily make this place a four or five star venue.
i.
Was looking forward to a flawless morning Tea I've come to expect from this beautiful cafe. Arrived at 7.15am (before the morning rush).
Food and drink tasted great, only they forgot to omit cream from my iced mocha (a request which was mentioned beforehand).
The savoury Muffin i ordered was left sitting on their bench for a time after it was heated (i waited a good 8-10minutes for it). I had to ask for it again. Instead of taking a fresh one and reheating that, i was served the same muffin (which was now cold, and should not be reheated).
Still a nice place to be. The team just didnt have their A-game on this morning.
S.
Fantastic beach-side café, wonderful views over the sand and waves. The food was delicious and the coffee was good too. The staff were friendly, welcoming and served with a smile. The café has plenty of retro and nautical decor, with some inspiring uses for some items. Well worth visiting!
S.
Amazing food, atmosphere and people. Loved every second of it, would definitely would recommend. I ordered the big bay breakfast and the caramel milkshake... to die for!
N.
Good food and awesome view.
M.
Firm favorite breakfast/lunch cafe in wellington for me! Awesome food, both cabinet and cooked. Coffees are on point as are the staff. Be aware, very popular and at peak times expect to wait for a table. It is however well worth waiting!
B.
Amazing cafe with incredible views across Lyall Bay. It's super popular at the weekend so expect to queue for a table.
On a good day you'll see scores of surfers, paddleboarders, planes taking off/landing at the airport, ferries coming and going across the Cook Strait.
I recommend their vege breakfast.
T.
Great food! Really lovely views. Staff a friendly. Can be a bit of a wait for food and it's always busy so brunch and lunch times can be crowded.
L.
I came on a week day and was able to snag a window seat on a gorgeous sunny day. The view is delightful.
The menu has a lot of variety and they serve breakfast foods late into the day. I had the Variety Breakfast which was lovely.
My weak long black was good.
The service was a bit slow.
A.
A Wellington institution, even a fire a few years back could stop it. Great location on the beach with great views. Food is a really high standard of café style both menu and counter. Milk shakes are excellent! Be prepared to wait to get a table. I don't think I've ever walked straight in, in all the times I've gone. Worth the wait though!
L.
Phenomenally good food at a very reasonable price, the staff were friendly and courteous. We had to wait a good 5-10 minutes to be seated but the wait was understandable when our food arrived, the presentation was exceptional (I had the fish tortilla) and the flavours were amazing with the fish cooked to perfection. The only thing letting the cafe down was the decor as we entered the establishment, however with the standard of food being served the decor is a very minor niggle. Overall an excellent cafe which won't fail to impress.
S.
Great visit to Lyall bay for some excelent breakfast with a great view of the bay at the same time.
J.
Always a busy, vibrant place. Despite it always being an amazingly sunny weekend day, the service is always pleasant and amazing. There's a slight wait for a table but it's hardly noticeable and doesn't detract from the overall experience. Highly recommend!
a.
Great food, amazing views, super friendly staff!
L.
Staff, service, food and price are all excellent. There's a reason it's busy!
J.
I can see why it’s a popular joint. Food was nice with great view. Service was good too. But the place is way too noisy (IMO).
E.
Good food, great views. Really busy but staff super friendly. Great place for a weekend brunch. Do yourself a favour and get the fish tortilla.
e.
4 stars for every other staffs especially the lady who served our table, amazing 👏 but the young women KATE she was super racial and rude please treat everyone nicely.
Thanks 😊
A.
Well worth the wait! Food was amazing with super friendly staff 😁
R.
Great food, great service. Very busy but were advised that before being seated. Didn't take long to get seated. And food came quicker than expected. Highly recommend it
o.
One of my favourite cafes in Wellington. Always busy with a bit of a wait for food, but we'll worth it. The counter food is great too. Tuesday big breakfast and coffee deal is the best
D.
Food is always good in my experience. If you arrive in peak hours for breakfast, brunch lunch be prepared to wait 30-40 mins before you get to eat. In our case we waited 10mins to get seated and another 25ins for our brunch.
N.
There was a small line but it moved pretty fast.Got a table inside and loved looking at all the interesting things plus the view of the beach was cool too. Got the banana split which was very tasty and rather big with lots of lollies. Overall really enjoyed it will come again.
J.
Service has dropped. Slow, seperate arrival of drinks. Slow or no basics. I'm not talking about a 45min kitchen delay as that's to be expected if busy or whatever.
Great vibe and good kiwi styled Cafe. Fantastic views of our rugged coast line in both sunny and variable weathered days.
Food is good and varied. Great thick shakes!
It does get busy and by busy I mean a queue that almost gets its own post code on weekends.
E.
Maranui cafe has fantastic views, a great friendly atmosphere, and most importantly.... Good food! Nowhere else in Lyall bay does an eggs Benedict like the team at Maranui cafe! Will be back again for sure
V.
Very nice café with a beautiful view in the bay. Homemade muffins are very good.
L.
Great atmosphere, choice of music and views. Lovely staff. We only had milkshakes so can't comment on the food, but we will definitely be back to eat there sometime. Great cafe!
J.
Location, location, location. Fabulous views across Lyall Bay, and out to the Cook Straight. And then there is the food, and friendly service, I couldn't want for more.
I'm not alone, you are advised to get there early.
S.
Vide and staff were awesome Food was ok For me nothing special Coffee was good Awesome views
E.
Amazing views over Lyall Bay from the old life saving club.
T.
Wonderful food and a great view
G.
Great food and coffee whether you're looking for a meal, or just a snack. Always busy and buzzing but it never takes too long to grab a table and enjoy the sea views.
L.
This is a really cool place to have some food or coffee. The staff are super friendly and service is always above and beyond. Plus it has a nice view of the beach! I highly recommend you try it out
S.
Felt like we were in a cattle yard. Abruptly told to stay in a corner till a table became vacant. Order taken with cinnamon on coffees but they arrived with chocolate on top?? Food excellent. Service pushy
V.
One of the best Cafes. Great views and interesting sights.
Watch surfers and planes landing across the bay at International Airport.
Food is good healthy choices and staff are friendly. Great decor
L.
Really great place. Wonderful view decent food. A tad hectic with how popular it is, get a feel that you can't sit and enjoy food, woof it down and get out so others can eat. Can't be helped tho. Would recommend
A.
Really great spot for coffee or lunch! Stunning views and you can even sot outside. Great staff and service. Highly recommend.
B.
A lovely cafe. It was very busy and the food took a while, but the staff were fantastic and told us up front about the wait and served us with coffee and smoothies quickly and it was really pleasant out on the deck in the sun, in spite of a little bit of wind. The food was worth waiting for.
x.
Great spot! Perfect coffee and cakes! View to melt
I.
Epic views, great decor.Food is always delicious (the vegan bliss bowl speciality is the best) and the staff clearly love their jobs. A stroll on the beach after recommended!
M.
We came with a big group fit lunch, we have had to wait quite a while but in the Ende we got two tables for the whole group. The service, food and the view were really great. Thank you for this great place. 👍
C.
Nice outlook and decor. Coffee is good but the service for food can be so slow. Waited 40 minutes with two kids for some chips. Thought I was going to have to give up and go across the road to the chippy.
S.
This place makes good shoestring fries with a very unique aioli. Ordered a side of manuka cooked bacon- could have had a bit more rashers even though it was a side. But, stunning views of Lyall Bay and friendly staff.
A.
Funky casual with great views of Lyall Bay. Often busy and meals can take 30 mins to arrive, but they give you an idea about the wait. Everything Ive eaten here was worth waiting for, and its a most pleasant place to be
D.
The food is amazing, staff work really quickly considering how busy it is there all the times I've been. Big Bay breakfast is always delicious and such beautiful views.
L.
Best breakfast. Quality food.
S.
Really nice food, decor, and fantastic location. It's often overly noisy so I avoid it at peak times. The food is a tad on the expensive side but there are some counter options.
S.
Great food and good selection. Loved the views!
J.
Maranui is a wee bit of cafe paradise on the Wellington coast. It has a great selection of food with a few nice twists and a great brunch selection but, just as importantly, a stunning few of the beach and the bay from the comfort of a sweeping set of windows.
A great place to enjoy the beach in any weather!
M.
Was super busy so had to wait for a seat but once seated the food came faster than I expected and staff were very friendly
D.
Good food (salmon bagel) and decent coffee. Staff is, in general, friendly but a bit "too cool for school" and is slow to pick up signs we want to order (more).
N.
Friendly stuff and tasty food. Great views from cafe even in a bad weather
M.
God food, and Great coffee ☕.
M.
Great food and amazing view. Be warned, this place is very popular, you need to get here extra early to get a good seat.
J.
The Maranui Cafe is a Wellington iconic cafe, a must visit when you are in Welly. Located right on Lyall Bay above the legendary Maranui Surf Lifesaving club and it is home to beach goers and the locals.
This place has been packed every time I've visited so plan accordingly. We ordered several different items from the breakfast menu. My son and grandkids were on the beach so we order take away for them. Smoothies, fries, and avocado & tomatoes on 5 grain toast. For inside we ordered a Big Bay breakfast, then fresh free range eggs on sour dough, fries, and kransky sausages and a Muranui Muesli. The take away order came in a reasonable amount of time but the inside order dragged on. Our waiter forgot our coffees... people without coffee become problematic. He was a good sport and gave us our coffee but the order took all of 45 min to arrive. Our food was good but nothing one might wake up dreaming about for breakfast. Recommend this as a great place to stop mainly due to views of the Bay, and quality of the food.
P.
Great food... friendly as staff. Popular place so a fair wait on the weekend. Excellent coffee. Nothing bad to say at all.
A.
Good staff and aesthetic :) the food was yummy but not amazing. 4 stars
P.
The best coffee I ve had in Wellington
C.
Loved the food! Wow! Chocolate tart was amazing and my quesadilla was perfect. Fresh ingredients, yummy salsa. Best meal I had on holiday in Wellington and Taupo this week.
L.
Great atmosphere and views. Be prepared to wait for a table around lunch time in the weekends as this is a very popular spot. Good coffee and food.
R.
Love the food and the atmosphere. Always pretty busy so pays to get in early if you can.
J.
Great woman who served me! Billion dollar views. Good eggs.
J.
Great food, but due to the popularity of this case, you'll often have to wait a while for your food. Worth it though! ;)
40min wait times are not unheard of... But the staff are upfront about it and will warn you ahead of time!
p.
The food was delicious, I had stacked buttermilk pancakes with strawberry and rhubarb compote layered with sliced bananas (the pancakes also came with a butter milk sauce). The pancakes were lovely and fluffy and the buttermilk sauce was fantastic. The balance between the creamy pancakes and buttermilk sauce and strawberry rhubarb compote was perfect and it wasn't too sweet. My son had eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce (and smokey bacon) which he said was delicious.
The view was amazing we could watch the surf and see the beautiful Tararua Ranges in the background.
Although there was a mix up with the printer and we had to wait for a while to get the food, they got it sorted pretty quickly once we brought it to their attention (that we had been waiting a while). The maitre d, apologised for the error and put things right very quickly. He runs a very well orgainsed Kitchen and cafe.
J.
Excellent free-range Eggs Benedict, nice velvety coffee, friendly service and a big window view of the ocean! Although this place can get quite crowded sometimes, it's a great destination for breakfast and one of the best cafes in Wellington.
R.
Great food, awesome service- really spicy tea called kapow, loved it😍
J.
Really good food and a lovely hot chocolate. The views are great as well, recommend getting there early in the monring on a Saturday if you don't want to queue.
P.
Lovely meal. Great staff. Had to que up to get in, which shows how popular it is. But I detest queuing.
I.
Amazing food! Staff where awesome, it was super busy but they where all still calm and friendly. Highly recommend!
J.
Lovely view if you're lucky to get window seat, expect a wait for meal, noisy if busy, and I'm sure meals have downsized or plates are larger! But still popular :)
Z.
Just superb. Fit out, food, staff and incredible spot overlooking the beach. Best in class.
E.
Based on my sister's recommendation, we took a long bus ride from Karori to Maranui Cafe for lunch and it was well worth it. The food was great and we had a nice view of the water. After lunch, it was easy to hop down to the beach for a nice walk before catching another bus.
S.
I'd heard the hype about this place. The view is great and the food/coffee is worth it. I went mid-afternoon on a Wednesday and it was packed. Just be mindful of the queues but don't let that deter you from going.
M.
Food is good, staff friendly and they had sunblock and hats for us when sat outside. I was however disappointed by the 10% surcharge on a public holiday. The cafe was full and people were queuing down the stairs to get in. They can't suggest they were running at a loss.
T.
Always great. Good service, ever changing counter selection, decent food and coffee. Awesome location right on the beach. Be prepared to wait for a table at peak times.
L.
Great service as usual even on packed weekends..1 negative my chai latte was too spicy and not sweet 😂🤦♀️...
M.
Great food, personal service and (if you're lucky) tables with an amazing view. Quirky, fun and well worth a visit but be aware it's almost always busy.
D.
Dog friendly and a very busy friendly team
m.
Beautiful food well presented and very tasty very busy appropriate waiting time to be seated 20 min but worth the wait. Great outdoor seating on a lovely day
S.
Always a great vibe with stunning views and a diverse crowd. Food and coffee great but hard to get a seat in the sun today....
One of Welly's best coffee haunts and great to take visitors too.
E.
Good service, perfect view, very popular place. Good food.
H.
A Wellington institution. The menu is excellent but I particularly enjoy the avocado and tomato on toast, both "big breakfast" options, and the quesadilla. The blue lagoon milkshake is not to be missed. One of the best spots in Wellington and always worth the wait.
I.
Love the food, coffee, and scenery. Just gotta stand in line when it's busy - generally lunch hour, but they do their best to accommodate.
K.
Always a fun place to visit, food is normally above average and staff are friendly... but I think they need to up their game on food service. They do warn people but still, if they got the food out faster people wouldn't have to stay as long and they would potentially turn tables around quicker and be even more profitable... just a thought...
B.
All the food was high quality. Quality eggs, quality Halloumi, and quality bread. Well made coffee (piccolo), can't fault it.
M.
Really nice, best coffee, great food. Can be a bit of a wait but that is testament to the quality and the experience. Love it
M.
45-50 minute wait for hot food at Sunday lunchtime?! Sort out the kitchen or regulate the diners. Had a very nice salad from the ready made section.
V.
Busy round 1 pm, seated within 10 mins, advised that fresh made food would be half hour, but ready made in glass cases available tout suite. In no rush, we opted for a daily special of black pudding, over huumus, sauerkraut garnish leafy greens, side of hot fresh crisp tasty thin cut fries.Whilst awaiting (they never seat faster than their excellent kitchen can produce QUALITY fayre), we chatted, people watched, viewed Lyall Bay with a storm a brewing, AND enjoyed a HOT coffee.
M.
Amazing drinks, food, and service!!! Definitely coming back soon!😊
I.
Best cheese scrolls ever!
D.
Vegetarian toastie (off the snacks menu) is admirably crafted. Coffee is great! Turmeric chai latte is reputedly excellent here too.
J.
Great food, but be prepared for long queues on the weekend. Good view of the Lyall Bay beach if you can grab a window seat.
P.
Nice cafe with a lovely view! The food is delicious! Go early to grab a good table.
W.
What can I say, this place is just great. Always busy, service is great, food is excellent. I come here for Sunday brunch and always look forward to it
M.
Great food and very friendly service. Be prepared to wait a while around weekend lunch times, very popular place.
D.
2nd time I'd been here. Lovely spot, lovely food
K.
Nice spot. Food was good
R.
We came here pretty often when we lived in Wellington. Great location and atmosphere, very good coffee and food and staff is always friendly. Only remark is the long wait in the weekends.
L.
Food was top notch with Cafe having a funky aesthetic and reasonable pricing.
D.
I didn't go. Was at Lyall bay beach/
M.
Great views, great blankets, great shoestring fries and friendly staff
K.
Had the haloumi bagel and the house-sitting crumpets. Both were great! Whatever they do to those tomatoes on that bagel deserves a Nobel peace prize because you can't be unhappy after eating them. The crumpets were fluffy and warm, with amazing honey and has given me a newfound respect for ricotta. 11/10 would recommend.
N.
great view, good service. Food is ok.
P.
Great food and friendly staff. Its usually packed and noisy.
h.
To fully appreciate the place, get a seat next to the windows. The one facing the shore are the best.
Also, as a Canadian, I approve the real Canadian maple syrup used for the pancakes.
C.
The coffee and food is always great! But, the atmosphere is inspiring, warm and vibrant.... And the view!!!
All my boxes are well and truly ticked at this establishment!
M.
Love this little Wellington institution. Good coffee and best views! Nice atmosphere
N.
Cool cafe. Ambiance is unique as an old swimming club. Food was good with lots of selection. We couldn't leave without an additional milkshake!
s.
Awesome cafe - and super-popular even at 7am! Good food, reasonable prices, even in the dark of the morning the view was amazing.
G.
The orange and date scones are the best. Moist and very flavoursome. On the weekend you need to get in early as they are often gone by 10-11am.
H.
Great spot away from the madness of town and the food is so good... Service, exceptional.
P.
Great views! Relatively quick service. Super busy cafe!
S.
Beautiful view onto Lyall Bay. Saturday brunch/lunchtime is packed so be prepared to wait for a table. Lovely food and great milkshakes too.
J.
Really enjoy this cafe. Visit whenever in Wellington. Great food, service and setting. Very popular but worth the wait.
S.
Amazing spot literally right on Lyall Bay beach. Beautiful outlook with good coffee. Atmosphere chilled by unfriendly waiting staff.
A.
Great food and helpful service. Relaxed vibe and berachfront location. What's not to like! Also kid-friendly.
C.
Probably the best cafe view in Wellington. Get that coveted spot next to the window or on the terrace, and watch kooks kook or the A350 stick the landing.
V.
Food was great, coffee was a okay but not great
K.
Excellent food and service
C.
Nice food, nice coffee, great view. Turn down the sound system volume please. Nice to be thanked for my custom.
P.
I had the most yummiest meal, a Buddha Bowl, twas heavenly!!! Busy place, and I can understand why, cheers
s.
Great food. Well presented but sometimes a bit of a wait for a table in peak hours and weekends. Great vege and gluten free options that taste awesome. Nom, nom
W.
Great setting overlooking Lyell Bay and the airport. Good average cafe fare ; you'll need to queue for a table on weekends !
C.
A place I always take friends and family visiting the area. Great views on a sunny day, and a great place for plane spotting too. Decent food and friendly service too.
L.
I loved this cafe. The food was delicious, fresh and flavoursome. Nice to find plenty of vegetarian options. Had my first ever turmeric chai. Omg, it was sooo good.
M.
Great coffee, fun friendly staff even when its pumping. Love the location, what a view 😍
A.
Really good service, food was great and very speedy. 10 outa 10!
K.
Waited 10mins4 table. Waitresses were great. 30mins4 meal 2 come. Will visit many times yet. The food was delicious. Thankyou!
M.
Great counter food and a great menu. Amazing view, probably the only restaurant in Wellington that has a great view and doesn't rely on that to make up for their food.
A.
Coolest little cafe in Wellington. Excellent food, service and views. Only little draw back is that it is too popular and expect to have to lineup for a table.
B.
Food great. Always a long queue to get a table. They do bring drinks quickly, but then a long wait for food. They're just so popular.
I.
Very scenic, good Beef Beef (a dish). On weekends the wait is usually 40m, but that's OK with good company and the sea view.
T.
Noisey. Fantastic location. Nice food although I thought the Salmon bagel I ordered was let down by the bagel. I have had nicer bagels. Staff were excellent
G.
Good selection of vegetarian and seafood dishes. Great selection of IPA beers and excellent coffee and service. A favourite breakfast spot...
S.
The food is always really good.... Great views too. There's a reason why it's so popular
E.
Great service, super tasty food. Baby friendly. Great atmosphere and decor.
E.
Great food, superb views, decent service, long wait and very noisy.
N.
Waiting 50 min for a meal is a bit too much, but staff are nice and friendly.
F.
Amazing coffee! They have 50+ sunblock on all outside tables and you're right above the beach so great for people, wave and dreadful watching!
R.
Great food, view, ambiance and nice staff.
S.
Good food, but often a long wait for a table and an even longer one for food. Coffee only ok. Milkshakes fantastic!
K.
Amazing place for coffee and brunch!
K.
The food was great and the service was great too! The place was packed when we went so we expected a wait and we were told by our servers too.
R.
Iconic Locale... Xlnt Food and Coffee. Love it
P.
Be prepared to wait 10 mins for a table at busy times but it's always worth the wait. Friendly staff, awesome food, great location.
N.
I came here with a friend who claimed that they had the “best thickshakes in Wellington” and The “salty dog” thickshake lived up to the claim😋😋👍! Also the staff where Friendly despite the place being crazy busy
M.
Very friendly and prompt service, good value food, vegetarian options, great location.
A.
Top food from the menu and a lush cabinet selection of sandwiches, salads and treats with a homemade deli vibe. Great staff, consistently awesome
D.
Iconic Wellington cafe with tasty food, fast friendly service, great coffee, and views over lyall Bay.
The blackened fish tortilla is a fav.
A.
😋
J.
Great views and great food. A real buzz to the place. Very popular so be prepared to wait for a table and food.
S.
Honestly great food, relaxed California setting, fit for any diet - vegan, paleo, normal munches, kids and oldies. Topped with fantastic views of beach life - surfers, seagulls, kiters.
g.
Brunch. Be prepared to wait, especially on the weekend. it's 1000% worth it though. I've never had anything on the menu that I didn't like. Classic.
S.
Great coffee but access is via stairs, so jot so good for elderly folk. Great views though.
B.
Great selection of cabinet food and a full menu til 3pm. Usually very busy so you may have to wait for a table.
P.
Great cafe with good food. Very popular and can get crowded at lunch time, especially in the weekend. Views over lyall bay beach.
L.
Great location, fabulous views, good food and drink. Always worth the stop. Expensive.
T.
Busy as usual & 10-15 minute wait. Guess that is a good sign for good food & coffee!
L.
Love the view, the vibe at Maranui. The food is above average. The only negative thing I can think of for this place is that there's always a long line on weekends. Everyone goes here.
G.
Perfect tofu dish for lunch, great service and ambience.
M.
Friendly staff, wonderful soup and gorgeous view. Just a bit noisy for me, need some sound-absorbing furnishings.
p.
Great food fab views and neat staff. It's an institution
R.
Nice food/coffee and lovely view. Very popular so it's always super busy and noisy.
M.
The food and location are goooooood! Consider getting up early on a Saturday for brekky/brunch or getting here during the week for an early lunch. Your tummy will thank you for it!
L.
Very nice food and drinks. Great views. Only complaint is how busy it can sometimes get.
H.
Best mussels I've ever had! sauce delish and that bread, oh my, super delicious!
D.
This is the best place to have breakfast in all of Wellington, the standard of service, food and location that all others are judged by on my opinion....your only problem will be getting a table because of the line out the door and the noise of so many people...
N.
Lovely location and good food and Coffee
S.
It was good but way too busy and noisy on a Saturday, a long queue just to get a table, better come during the week.
J.
A Wellington institution. Get there early to avoid the wait. Great food, fantastic coconut lattes (So easy to ruin) and of course, fabulous views
M.
Food so so, waiting time just ridiculous. View amazing atmosphere is very nice, but really 1.5 hour for a few eggs with toast???
L.
My favourite wellington cafe. Delicious berry smoothie and quality cabinet food for a quick lunch before getting on the road again.
M.
