A really special and amazing place! We came on an amazing sunny day, it was quiet and we managed to get a window seat. Luckily enough we could see a large pod of dolphins from the cafe! Great view, great food and really awesome vibe to be in!

Came here for a late brunch and as a Wellington favorite it never fails to deliver. We both had the eggs Benedict, one with bacon, one with spinach. We finished off with a pot of green tea and this delicious berry pineapple cake - the cabinet food is so beautifully presented and I must say the taste matches. Great, personable service with yummy food and stunning views over the ocean - what more can you ask for?

Gotta reserve seats during public holidays. The ambience was really cold! Nice view of the beach. Stuff were fantastic and loving their friendliness and quick service! Food was really great as well! Very recommended! Worth the visit and money for sure

Stop here randomly after landing in Wellington early in the morning and have come here for breakfast every time I am in Wellington. The cafe is amazing with a good menu, delicious food. We got the eggs Benedict and fresh free range on citabatta and hot drinks on our first visit which we enjoyed eating and drinking soaking up the amazing views. We also loved the decor to this cafe. Good staff and highly recommend coming here.

Cool little place and can get busy but worth the wait, my personal favourite was the pancakes, banana and bacon stack, delicious 😚

Always the best Wellington breakfasts and Egg Bennies, even 11 years after my first visit. Always a wait at busy periods but that's just part of it and well worth it. Still also the best savoury muffins in NZ. I can never find a match elsewhere.

Great selection, lots of vegetarian and healthy options. Was busy midday on a Sunday, although we were seated quickly and food was served at a good pace as well. It was very noisy inside, and the music was loud too. Might be the acoustics of the space? Beautiful view of the ocean. Would love to go back when it’s a little quieter and sit inside.

Wonderful place, with amazing views for the bay and delicious food. We ordered, Freyberg fish tortilla, a vegetarian salad and bloody Martha. All of it was great! The food was worth the wait.

Over rated. We did a 30 min queue + 10 minutes just to get to a table. - Positive things: nice location, fish tortilla was amazing, also the steam Mussels and chips with Aioli - Warning: stay away from the smoked salmon bagel, only thing you’ll taste is cream cheese, not balance at all. Side of spinach was literally some small portion of steam spinach not even with dressing or anything. - The service... we felt it was a little bit pushy in terms rushing us to order. However she (the waitress) was smily and professional.

Had lunch with my daughter and granddaughter .Beautiful setting and the staff were just lovely - efficient and friendly. Our food arrived quite quickly despite the place being packed and it was delicious.

Such a good spot. It's busy and you may need to wait ~10mins on peak but it's worth the wait! Really cool view, excellent service, sensational food, knowledgeable about allergies and especially gluten free. Really great coffee. Highly recommend the mocha milkshake.

Had a lovely breakfast here looking out at the frothy sea below us rolling onto the shore. Awesome seaviews from our 2nd floor cafe. The wooden staircase had a worn dip in the centre of each step. No doubt this Indicates how many feet have gone up & down those stairs....over the countless years.

There’s always a bit of a wait at the Maranui, however that’s to be expected for this Wellington institution. Great food awaits! My current pick from the menu is the After Swim Snack - smashed avocado on toasted sementi with grilled sweet tomato. Pair that with the amazing view over the bay and you’re in foodie heaven!

Another gorgeous morning breakfast! Today my partner and I devoured the buttermilk pancakes and a savoury scroll (aubergine, zucchini & pesto). Phenomenally savoury, umami; the pancakes were fluffy; the custard smooth and the brittle crunchy and nutty. So good. I enjoyed the turmeric latte. My partner enjoyed the chai (it was a tad cool likely because it was made first).

Maranui has long been. but now I am promoting it to BEST cafe in Wellington.Why? Staff. Good food, location… but it’s the staff who are the best. They have the knack of being good at their job - but also they bring this little extra knack of kindness with a wee bit of cool. This place is an absolute gem,nice veiw of the sea and people surfing,I would strongly recommend the big brekki,I feel like they use quality ingredients,only reason why this place is missing a star is because of long wait times for a table and food which is understandable because they are busy and don’t have a large dining area. Always a great meal, lots of fresh quality food. Big fan of the mushrooms. You may have to wait on a Sunday for a table, but that's a great sign of a place where people want to be. If you don't like noise, you may want to go elsewhere, as they fill the place up and people's inside voices are seldom used. I always experience good service and the coffee is high on the best coffees for Wellington.

Wonderful ocean view. Food is above average cafe food but surely no complaints.

Bliss! Just many simple pleasures. Sitting behind the main window looking across the harbour entrance to Pencarrow. Delighting in very tasty sementi toast topped with avocado, grilled tomatoes and basil. Served by staff who satisfied our every annoying request.

I ordered Houghton bay dish and it was just amazing and very delicious. Very well presented food with a great sea view. They also have perfect coffees with a great service.

Food was fine. This is the salad, the three that were available in the cabinet. Reasonably priced, seemed small but not too bad. The ginger slice was good. Nice location on the edge of the beach. Very loud even when it wasn't busy.

Eclectic dining spot right on the water. Great views of Lyall Bay. Breakfast is served late, which I had at 2pm. Fresh fish plate and mussels are excellent. Very good coffee as well. Service was prompt.

Gorgeous view. Well-served sweety-fatty-salty-roasty mix of "standard" NZ casual food. Nothing impressive except the view. Standard range of prices. Sunday morning they were full and the place became very noisy. The desk is exposed to all Lyall Bay's winds. If you're about to eat something delicately tasty, nothing to do there. P.S. It's a bit personal, but my coffee was bitter and burnt (I wonder, if it is just Havana's roast style?).

Definitely one of the better cafe's in Wellington. Serves the basic cafe foods, nothing special really. Coffee is decent. Wait times are always really long. The service staff are well trained, though, and typically make up for it.

One of the best places for a good breakfast in Wellington! A wide range of breakfast goodies will let you start your day. A fantastic view of Lyall Bay and its surfers will complete this breakfast experience and will let you return... But be aware, sometimes you'll have to queue to get upstairs to this breakfast heaven, especially on weekends.

10 out of 10. Perfect morning. Started it off with a beautiful organic orange juice accompanied by the basil, avo smash, fresh tomato on gluten-free toast, which although sounds like a simple dish, it was perfect for starting off the morning. Add a poached egg to the side if you're feeling peckish. All very fresh ingredients. Finished it all off with an aromatic long black coffee with perfect crema. Service was top notch. All in all a memorable experience.

Good food with a nice selection of gluten free and vegan options. Wonderful view looking out over the ocean. It was a little chilly, and somewhat noisy, but casual and fun.

Maranui has always been good. Located right on the beach in the old Maranui surf lifesaving club rooms, they deliver the "Havana-esque" food and drinks that we know and love. They are always solid as a brunch choice, but at the weekends you'll need to arrive early, or except that waiting in a queue on the narrow stairs is all part of the experience.

Just love this place and the food is always great!! The staff seem to like their job... and the service they provide shines as a result. The only downfall is it's so good that it's always packed and can get pretty loud 😁 the wait is always worth it.

Visited Maranui for breakfast on our trip to Wellington. We got a table window side with awesome views of the bay. The service was attentive and courteous. The food was great as well. I will always have a fond memory of this place.

Iconic cafe with excellent menu and first class coffee. It has unrivalled views of the bay and there is always a great vibe inside. A short wait in the queue on the stairway is a small price to pay for the experience.

Always worth the wait. If you don't see a line on the stairs, that's probably because you're an early riser or it's after closing time. A true institution; the food is always as great as the views are beautiful. The coffee here is a real A+. The staff are so friendly, and really great at communicating wait times for food. Seriously, this place is always worth the wait, and the wait is a very normal part of coming here. Great cabinet food too if you don't want to wait too long!

Very popular cafe, you often have to queue for half an hour to get a table. Up flights of stairs, so no good for elderly, disabled, prams, etc. They had the Covid QR codes everywhere to scan (which was great) but no hand sanitizer to be seen. Meals are tasty, but nothing special. To be honest you're better off walking down to Elements Cafe.

Got seated quickly, food was about 30 minutes wait but well worth it. The food was fantastic, we had a large group who ordered most of the menu and the unanimous agreement was that the food slaaaapppppeeeedddd. The coffee was also fantastic, although we have mixed feelings about the addition of peanut butter to the hot chocolate.

Very slow to get the coffee but absolutely worth the wait. More for the effect of the coffee than taste, although taste good.

Had a pre-funeral get together there. Appreciated the top deck. It was windy (but that's to be expected). Appreciated the option, as these spaces are becoming a necessity in these Covid-19 times. The staff were friendly and attentive, and we didn't wait long for the food and drinks.

First time here. Great spot to watch the surf as your waiting patiently for your meals listening to some good old school music. When the food reaches our Table it's amazingly delicious and filling. Came here for lunch on Saturday. Was a small wait but definitely worth it. The menu was great, lots of options. The food was fresh and delicious. The selection of cakes was amazing and the coffee perfect. Despite the busyness of the day coffee was prompt and hot, and the food came in a timely manner. The staff were very helpful and friendly. And to top it all off a superb view while you eat. Highly recommend.

I love how this place is always buzzing. Lots of people but not so loud you can't talk across the table. If you get the right table the views are very cool out across the Cook Strait. Overall though this reminds me of old style milk bar type cafe with really good food. Portion sizes are generous.

Delicious food, really tasty coffee, wonderful milkshakes, lovely helpful and friendly staff, great decor & stunning views of the bay. A wee wait for a table and food, but considering it was a sunny Sunday lunchtime, what did I expect!? The staff made sure I knew about waiting times and the faster counter food options. Great view with amazing food. If you want to enjoy a delicious meal (or just a coffee) and want to enjoy the sea view then it's a perfect place. I loved the vintage style and all those beautiful photos and decorating. You have to wait a little bit but staffs are really friendly they will help you to find a sit.

Always good, had the fish and one of their old fashioned thich shake (strawberry) overlooking the bay on a glorious midwinter lunch hour.

A lovely spot for lunch overlooking the bay. The food was very tasty and there was a good variety. The kids menu offered several options and there is also cabinet food available too. It gets very busy so tables can become a premium at times. Lots of parking available right outside.

Excellent coffee! Menu offered good healthy food choices, well presented food with great taste. Gluten free options easily catered for. Excellent service too. Toddler was even given crayons and colouring in book while we waited after ordering. Busy as, but would definitely go again on our next trip to Wellington.

Disappointed with the person whom put her fingers in the keyboard and in my slice of chocolate cake at the same time. I paid and threw away. Thought I was lucky because I bought two slices, I tried to eat and threw away. Beautiful outside, no tasty at all. But lunch time was nice the big breakfast. Mmm...Underwhelming having taken a stroll from the CBD along to Evans Bay Parade and onto Lyall Bay. I was gasping for a welcoming coffee and 'eggs on something'. 'Awe bud, sit over there. We can get you a coffee now, but any food will take half an hour'. I sat with a lukewarm flat white in a glass, declined the half hour wait, and no chance of any Internet access either as the password was wrong. OK it was mildly busy, but not half an hour wait for food busy. Plenty of staff zooming about, but seemingly not enough to get the food out pronto. I know this is one of those Wellington destination cafes, but you gotta raise the game if you're charging near on 30 bucks for a brekky including a coffee.

Came here with some friends for breakfast... There is a great choice of food here and the price is actually super reasonable. The milkshakes here are also REALLY good. I ended up going for the big breakfast which actually wasn't that big, but pretty damn good (apart from the random pesto and sun dried tomatoes) - not my favourite breakfast... But damn good none the less. The staff here really are fantastic... Really friendly and will get you seated as soon as possible (and won't rush you out the door once you're done). I would definitely come here in future.

Another Wellington cafe with the right formula. You can tell as you walk in. It’s busy, the decor is quirky and different enough to create its own atmosphere. Staff, service and food all exemplary. Add a view of the beach, harbour entrance, airport and you have a unique spot destined to be successful and worth repeat visits.

A very popular cafe and no matter what time you arrive it will be busy. Staff and friendly and inviting and will seat you promptly. Excellent menu with some tried and true classics as well as more modern fare. All is delicious. Coffee is superb. Has amazing ocean views no matter the weather. A must if you are visiting Wellington.

Food was really good, big breakfast was plentiful and of good quality. I was told by my dining companions the coffee was good also. Unfortunately the service was very unfriendly, I felt like an imposition.

Get in early and beat the queues for this must do Wellington brunch location! Awesome views, great food, very busy atmosphere, worth braving the cool deck if you want more room and to get away from the noise (also those tables are normally available during the non-summer months, cold blooded people take note!)

We add a lot of pleasure having our lunch time there. We had to wait 10 min before having a table but you know when it's good people like to come. Friendly and nice service. We have to wait few minutes more being served but really acceptable when you have kids with you. The food was good! Easy to park on the lyall parade. We'll probably come back

A great place for a coffee on the beach with great food and friendly staff.

Pretty nice place right on the beach, but overall, just a rushed business like feeling, when I told the waitress my flat white was really strong she said "because it comes in a small cup". I wish the cups were normal size and the flat whites weren't Americanos. Won't be returning , plenty of other better places to eat and drink in Wellington...

Evening visits here are nice (Friday/Saturday), the pizzas they serve are ordered in but really good. During the day at weekends it gets really busy but staff seem to be good at managing expectations as to wait times for seating and food. Also have really nice milkshakes.

Always a favourite place! Staff lovely despite being busy as. Yesterday my son was spontaneously given some marshmallows and a chocolate fish...he was sooooo happy. Bless the staff member who thought to do that! AND the food is delicious!

Beautiful kitsch little café. It's look is American diner meets seaside arcade. Lots of curiosities. Good for a date. We sat outside on the modest terrace and enjoyed a coffee, hot chocolate, and piece of vegan chocolate cake as the waves rolled in. We watched the planes land and enjoyed the friendly service in this little sheltered nook. A real fave. Didn't see the menu, though would recommend to anyone.

Was looking for a Cafe / Restaurant with a menu that used free range hen eggs as many in Kilbirnie do not in fact in the whole zip zone 6022. On the fore shore Beach Lyall Bay Parade not far from bus service facilities. In a building on the 1 st level with a steep set off stairs to climb. First impression was looks old, tired, and ragged, nearly gave it a miss. Decided to climb the uncovered wooded stairs inside with old Surf boat oars as hand rails. Different so gave me energy to carry on. Struggled with my walking stick and as I got near the entrance at the the top chattering voices hit the customer. Not just a few but dozens. Walked around to try and find a table but was quickly told by the young polite female matra "D" to join the que & she would in due course show me to a vacant table which there were not many. A choice of varing size tables, a couple of high bar ledges and out side balcony. As the chairs available where low chose the bar stool ledge that was empty with a wall to lean on as the stools did not have back support. The place was a buzz with all age groups plus children. Counted 40 there with 10 or more in the replacing que. People were arriving as fast as people leaving after eating. The staff observed were all experience as they handled the crowd, with politeness nothing seemed to bother them as they went about their tasks efficiently. Seating chairs were tired & old but that was quickly over looked by the surf lifesaving memorabilia on the walls, a preserved swordfish head in one corner & the light ceiling fittings shades made from rowing skiffs seats with holes in to allow the allumination through with plenty off other interesting used surf equipment, past boxing legends posters to make a interesting decore without it being cluttered or over done. Menu, with plenty of vegietairian choices, different from the norm bacon and egg, omelette style menus which their menu would Cater for most people's tastes with plenty off side dishes at very reasonable prices to add to any of the menu listings or order on there own. Build your own dish as big as you like. I had the scrambled eggs without the dough toast which was when I came to pay was treated as a side order of 2 eggs scrambled at $2.50 a egg. Cooked to perfection and not over done with to much milk to make them pale and running to try and make the serving larger causing it to slide from your fork when trying to lift to eat. Solid non flopping non milky, and not a wobbly mess. Did not have tumeric or other herbs or spices to add but said if you have your own to add that would be Ok. Garnished tastefully not like some places no garnish or a floppy parsley trig. Well cooked so no fear of raw egg side effects or contamination. Observed numerous dishes being delivered to other tables well garnished and presented Did not see any dishes being returned or customers complaining, in fact every person seemed happy. In a restaurant when there is plenty of buzzing noise, chatter rather than people sitting there quietly it is a sign of a happy cafe / restaurant and customers. They offer a loyalty coffee reward card which earns one a free coffee which the coffee menu contains approx 9 different style coffees. Excellent children's menu with healthy choices. Whole Prepared foods, rolls, wrapps in the cabinets with interesting choices with healthy greenery, sprouts, wrinkled lettuce, kale, meats, roast mushrooms, chicken, different cheeses rather than Colby cheeses using whole grain toast breads rather than the usual sandwich thickness breads cut in half. Totally recommend this place. Saturdays they said they are extremely busy which I found was true arriving early before 9.00 am thinking that their would not be many there. Not so as I found a que already happening. Whilst there the tables turned over another 30 or so customers and as I was leaving they were still arriving in 2and 4,s.

Such good food, busy as so took a while for the food to get to us. They just took off the cost of the fries because of the wait. Didnt ask them to but a really nice gesture. Service staff are top notch.

Food here is great and the venue is a classic Wellington hallmark. It's always busy, with people literally queueing down the stairs and onto the road just to get a seat during peak hours. The biggest problem is the service though. Staff are often completely oblivious to customers - one pretended to clean tables and then wandered aimlessly to avoid serving! Food will get forgotten at the pass, mistakes on orders, food not available for order even though you're not told beforehand. I hoped that this is a one-off experience, but I've been four times now and every time it's been the same. Good waiting staff could easily make this place a four or five star venue.

Was looking forward to a flawless morning Tea I've come to expect from this beautiful cafe. Arrived at 7.15am (before the morning rush). Food and drink tasted great, only they forgot to omit cream from my iced mocha (a request which was mentioned beforehand). The savoury Muffin i ordered was left sitting on their bench for a time after it was heated (i waited a good 8-10minutes for it). I had to ask for it again. Instead of taking a fresh one and reheating that, i was served the same muffin (which was now cold, and should not be reheated). Still a nice place to be. The team just didnt have their A-game on this morning.

Fantastic beach-side café, wonderful views over the sand and waves. The food was delicious and the coffee was good too. The staff were friendly, welcoming and served with a smile. The café has plenty of retro and nautical decor, with some inspiring uses for some items. Well worth visiting!

Firm favorite breakfast/lunch cafe in wellington for me! Awesome food, both cabinet and cooked. Coffees are on point as are the staff. Be aware, very popular and at peak times expect to wait for a table. It is however well worth waiting!

Amazing cafe with incredible views across Lyall Bay. It's super popular at the weekend so expect to queue for a table. On a good day you'll see scores of surfers, paddleboarders, planes taking off/landing at the airport, ferries coming and going across the Cook Strait. I recommend their vege breakfast.

I came on a week day and was able to snag a window seat on a gorgeous sunny day. The view is delightful. The menu has a lot of variety and they serve breakfast foods late into the day. I had the Variety Breakfast which was lovely. My weak long black was good. The service was a bit slow.

A Wellington institution, even a fire a few years back could stop it. Great location on the beach with great views. Food is a really high standard of café style both menu and counter. Milk shakes are excellent! Be prepared to wait to get a table. I don't think I've ever walked straight in, in all the times I've gone. Worth the wait though!

Phenomenally good food at a very reasonable price, the staff were friendly and courteous. We had to wait a good 5-10 minutes to be seated but the wait was understandable when our food arrived, the presentation was exceptional (I had the fish tortilla) and the flavours were amazing with the fish cooked to perfection. The only thing letting the cafe down was the decor as we entered the establishment, however with the standard of food being served the decor is a very minor niggle. Overall an excellent cafe which won't fail to impress.

Always a busy, vibrant place. Despite it always being an amazingly sunny weekend day, the service is always pleasant and amazing. There's a slight wait for a table but it's hardly noticeable and doesn't detract from the overall experience. Highly recommend!

Food is always good in my experience. If you arrive in peak hours for breakfast, brunch lunch be prepared to wait 30-40 mins before you get to eat. In our case we waited 10mins to get seated and another 25ins for our brunch.

There was a small line but it moved pretty fast.Got a table inside and loved looking at all the interesting things plus the view of the beach was cool too. Got the banana split which was very tasty and rather big with lots of lollies. Overall really enjoyed it will come again.

Service has dropped. Slow, seperate arrival of drinks. Slow or no basics. I'm not talking about a 45min kitchen delay as that's to be expected if busy or whatever. Great vibe and good kiwi styled Cafe. Fantastic views of our rugged coast line in both sunny and variable weathered days. Food is good and varied. Great thick shakes! It does get busy and by busy I mean a queue that almost gets its own post code on weekends.

Maranui cafe has fantastic views, a great friendly atmosphere, and most importantly.... Good food! Nowhere else in Lyall bay does an eggs Benedict like the team at Maranui cafe! Will be back again for sure

Location, location, location. Fabulous views across Lyall Bay, and out to the Cook Straight. And then there is the food, and friendly service, I couldn't want for more. I'm not alone, you are advised to get there early.

Felt like we were in a cattle yard. Abruptly told to stay in a corner till a table became vacant. Order taken with cinnamon on coffees but they arrived with chocolate on top?? Food excellent. Service pushy

A lovely cafe. It was very busy and the food took a while, but the staff were fantastic and told us up front about the wait and served us with coffee and smoothies quickly and it was really pleasant out on the deck in the sun, in spite of a little bit of wind. The food was worth waiting for.

This place makes good shoestring fries with a very unique aioli. Ordered a side of manuka cooked bacon- could have had a bit more rashers even though it was a side. But, stunning views of Lyall Bay and friendly staff.

Maranui is a wee bit of cafe paradise on the Wellington coast. It has a great selection of food with a few nice twists and a great brunch selection but, just as importantly, a stunning few of the beach and the bay from the comfort of a sweeping set of windows. A great place to enjoy the beach in any weather!

The Maranui Cafe is a Wellington iconic cafe, a must visit when you are in Welly. Located right on Lyall Bay above the legendary Maranui Surf Lifesaving club and it is home to beach goers and the locals. This place has been packed every time I've visited so plan accordingly. We ordered several different items from the breakfast menu. My son and grandkids were on the beach so we order take away for them. Smoothies, fries, and avocado & tomatoes on 5 grain toast. For inside we ordered a Big Bay breakfast, then fresh free range eggs on sour dough, fries, and kransky sausages and a Muranui Muesli. The take away order came in a reasonable amount of time but the inside order dragged on. Our waiter forgot our coffees... people without coffee become problematic. He was a good sport and gave us our coffee but the order took all of 45 min to arrive. Our food was good but nothing one might wake up dreaming about for breakfast. Recommend this as a great place to stop mainly due to views of the Bay, and quality of the food.

Great food, but due to the popularity of this case, you'll often have to wait a while for your food. Worth it though! ;) 40min wait times are not unheard of... But the staff are upfront about it and will warn you ahead of time!

The food was delicious, I had stacked buttermilk pancakes with strawberry and rhubarb compote layered with sliced bananas (the pancakes also came with a butter milk sauce). The pancakes were lovely and fluffy and the buttermilk sauce was fantastic. The balance between the creamy pancakes and buttermilk sauce and strawberry rhubarb compote was perfect and it wasn't too sweet. My son had eggs benedict with hollandaise sauce (and smokey bacon) which he said was delicious. The view was amazing we could watch the surf and see the beautiful Tararua Ranges in the background. Although there was a mix up with the printer and we had to wait for a while to get the food, they got it sorted pretty quickly once we brought it to their attention (that we had been waiting a while). The maitre d, apologised for the error and put things right very quickly. He runs a very well orgainsed Kitchen and cafe.

Excellent free-range Eggs Benedict, nice velvety coffee, friendly service and a big window view of the ocean! Although this place can get quite crowded sometimes, it's a great destination for breakfast and one of the best cafes in Wellington.

Based on my sister's recommendation, we took a long bus ride from Karori to Maranui Cafe for lunch and it was well worth it. The food was great and we had a nice view of the water. After lunch, it was easy to hop down to the beach for a nice walk before catching another bus.

I'd heard the hype about this place. The view is great and the food/coffee is worth it. I went mid-afternoon on a Wednesday and it was packed. Just be mindful of the queues but don't let that deter you from going.

Food is good, staff friendly and they had sunblock and hats for us when sat outside. I was however disappointed by the 10% surcharge on a public holiday. The cafe was full and people were queuing down the stairs to get in. They can't suggest they were running at a loss.

Always a fun place to visit, food is normally above average and staff are friendly... but I think they need to up their game on food service. They do warn people but still, if they got the food out faster people wouldn't have to stay as long and they would potentially turn tables around quicker and be even more profitable... just a thought...

All the food was high quality. Quality eggs, quality Halloumi, and quality bread. Well made coffee (piccolo), can't fault it.

45-50 minute wait for hot food at Sunday lunchtime?! Sort out the kitchen or regulate the diners. Had a very nice salad from the ready made section.

Busy round 1 pm, seated within 10 mins, advised that fresh made food would be half hour, but ready made in glass cases available tout suite.In no rush, we opted for a daily special of black pudding, over huumus, sauerkraut garnish leafy greens, side of hot fresh crisp tasty thin cut fries.Whilst awaiting (they never seat faster than their excellent kitchen can produce QUALITY fayre), we chatted, people watched, viewed Lyall Bay with a storm a brewing, AND enjoyed a HOT coffee.

Vegetarian toastie (off the snacks menu) is admirably crafted. Coffee is great! Turmeric chai latte is reputedly excellent here too.

Had the haloumi bagel and the house-sitting crumpets. Both were great! Whatever they do to those tomatoes on that bagel deserves a Nobel peace prize because you can't be unhappy after eating them. The crumpets were fluffy and warm, with amazing honey and has given me a newfound respect for ricotta. 11/10 would recommend.

Love the view, the vibe at Maranui. The food is above average. The only negative thing I can think of for this place is that there's always a long line on weekends. Everyone goes here.

This is the best place to have breakfast in all of Wellington, the standard of service, food and location that all others are judged by on my opinion....your only problem will be getting a table because of the line out the door and the noise of so many people...

Food so so, waiting time just ridiculous. View amazing atmosphere is very nice, but really 1.5 hour for a few eggs with toast???
