I love their coffee crema - lovely roast and creamy. The service is prompt and friendly, the space is open and would be an easy place to set up for a wee while and get some work done. I had bacon and poached eggs which were good.

Great vibes, lots of seating but very busy! It’s easy to see why, the coffee was well made, their food are not too adventurous but that’s not a bad thing, because they just focused on making everything delicious. Their sausage was one of the best I’ve had at a cafe.

Good Coffee with an industrial modern look cafe. Despite the normal busy mornings, service was prompt and food was well done. They roast their coffee on premise too! I went there twice during my trip because of the coffee and ambience.

Was there for my birthday last week on a Friday morning and it was just as busy as always, in a good way. I had delicious pancakes and a great oat milk coffee. They have a lot of good specials that change out so there is always something new to eat here.

First time at Prefab having brunch. Good menu with right sized portions and drink selection with on point music and overall great atmos, a very relaxing environment to take the family.

Wonderful seafood chowder and potato gratin. Nice coffee and friendly staff. Always busy, but worth the wait. Def recommend!

Incredible flat white, great flavour and great temperature. Slightly less milk foam than normal, which I prefer. Busy and bustling atmosphere, expect to wait for a table, but worth it. I had scrambled egg with a side of bratwurst and spinich. Simple menu but good for breakfast and lunch. The cabinet had pastries for afternoon snacks.

Always fantastic, Bridget and the team do a great job. The margherita was superb and the chicken on the salad was delicious. Thank you.

Best salad of my life! We missed breakfast unfortunately but both my husband and I absolutely loved our meals. The friendly and numerous staff were always available to answer our questions and help us find our way during our first time at the cafe.

Coffee was average for me , but food was amazing. Service was perfect, It was pretty busy in the morning but all staffs were ready to serve anyone. Love this place

The food was awesome and plenty left over, and staff were professional, efficient, helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend as an event venue.

Super open loft-like space with plenty of natural light. Busy Friday brunch but they didn't seem to slow down the staff at all. Potato gratin with bratwurst and bacon was stunning and more filling than it looks.

Although the menu is limited, the food is incredible. The bacon, in particular is probably the best I have ever eaten. Coffee is also top class.

Fresh delicious Acme bread made on site, efficient service, coffee roasted on site. Always very yummy. update - been here 3 more times and always solid service and food.

Been meaning to go here for a long time. Was very busy and had to share a large table but that's a sign the place is excellent. Staff were totally onto it, food came quick and everything was a breeze. Portion size was small and expensive for the quantity you get but the flavours and presentation was fantastic. I even saw someone with a dog in there which is great to see! We need more dog friendly places in Aotearoa.

Wonderful spot to have a meal or just a drink. The atmosphere is vibrant and buzzy with very attentive waiting staff. Highly recommend a visit.

Open only for lunch and breakfast sadly. Although crowded and busy when I visited it did not take long to get a table and it was well worth the wait for delicious healthy food. Excellent service. Loaves of bread (including gluten free), granola and treats available to buy and take away. Acme salads a definite favourite.

Everything here was really good! The coffee was strong but tasty (double shots in all coffees by default). I had something with eggs, Hollandaise sauce and salmon on scalloped potatoes. It was great!

Food is delicious. it's quite a busy place and we had to wait about 5 minutes to get a table. But staff members are very kind and attentive.=)

Waffles, icecream, bacon, roasted almond slices... Such a treat, Prefab is fantastic to visit. I've been a few times over the past few weeks and there's always a hum and bustle of positive energy and relaxation. The staff are very, very good. Missing a meal or coffee here during a visit would be sacrilegious.

Awesome atmosphere, great service although it was really busy on a Saturday morning. The waiter acknowledged the long wait which was really nice. The noise level was too loud with the music over it but you get used to it once you’re in your spot. The food tasted good and as expected.

The coffee was surprisingly overly bitter. The food was pretty good though. Had bacon and eggs. The bacon was amazing. The poached eggs were done really well too. Service was excellent. We only waited about 5 mins for a table.

Brunch at Prefab three weeks ago was superb. The food, the coffee and the service were faultless. We were ‘out of towners’ and still remembering our experience. We are sorry to hear of today’s news.

Definitely the best coffee place in Wellington. Located in old warehouse totally redecorated. The food is really good. I highly recommend to try the poached egg on a danish RYE (photo). The downside is that is's a bit noisy.

Had a ladies weekend away from Auckland. First stop a well deserved Coffee at Prefab and it was amazing. Breakfast was just as scrumptious, good spot and a very busy place. Even spotted an All Black...winning! The staff are accommodating and quick to turn tables. Great team! Good on you Wellington.

a brilliant spot with a lot going on. the service was prompt and friendly! menu: short and sweet. coffee was splendid, as is to be expected. i especially loved seeing the owners work with their staff. all in all, very cool.

The best bacon I have even had!!!!!!! Definitely will have the bacon again if I come back to Wellington!!!!!

Lamb stew was excellent served with warm bread and butter. Risotto was a little under cooked but flavor was good. Great fit out and vibe.

Had a delicious breakfast here, it's a busy spot so you've got to queue but if the brunch is anything to go by it's worth the wait!

Prefab is my go-to It is always busting busy but food and drinks are always amazing with top notch service. Never been disappointed whenever I go there. There’s maybe a bit of a wait during peak lunch hours but sure worth the wait. - Coffee and their orange juice are a must - Food: i usually go for potato gratin, alternate between ‘with bacon and sausage or salmon’. Oli rolls is always a good choice as well as their hand-cut fries and that AMCE sauce. Devine👌🏼 And not to forget they have delicious donuts, highly recommend the salted caramel donut

Lunch gathering was a retirement celebration enjoyed by 6 older women. Three of us have been following host Bridget for over 20.years so it's no surprise I gave it 5 stars. Three of us had fish of the day - an amazing terakihi on Thai flavoured mango salsa and salad. Others happy with their meals too. Coffee is always great and the women's bathroom is nicely appointed including fresh flowers. This is obviously not going to be my last visit.

What a wonderful reason to visit Prefab. It was the big talk about what my favorite city in the world will eventually look like!! My son was there for almost an hour which was great!!! So much place to sit around and the outside area was beautiful :) thank you for hosting the event for The Council :)

Very nice atmosphere and friendly service. Food was tasty and a good portion size. Unfortunately one of our orders was delayed because of a miscommunication between staff around a delivery.

Great coffeeshop by the team that apparently started the coffee craze in Wellington and opened Fidel on Cuba street. Coffee was really good and so was the Halomi cheese and avo. Baugette. The museli was a little on the stingy side as the amount of yogurt and fruit was rather disappointing. The toasted granola was actually quite good. The place is huge, well lit and modern.

How can a cafe be so full at 7am when the doors have just opened? I guess when you are such a slick operation people storm the place. Coffee delicious and super quick despite the crush of people (loved the cups too). Food a little slower but great brekky menu and well executed. Loved it

Ugh. Prefabs reeks of the bouji and fashionable set. Expect a wait on arrival while the frazzled and perpetually better-occupied Maître d', Bridget, ignores you even just a little. Coffee is influenced by the owners past life at Café L'Affare, so has good bones. Flat whites are bitter; mochas are very, very sweet. Food can be quick to arrive or very delayed, expect to be surprised one way or another. Most of the menu's offerings taste delicious owing to plenty of duck fat or butter. Though epicurean creativity is a bit flat in the Prefab kitchen. Options are a little limited, with two offerings of Potato Gratin on offer. Gluten free bread options are cheap and store bought. Plates are all presented like a student's dinner, flung on china at least. Bacon is delicious and succulent, though its partner bratwurst seems like a basic sausage. The cabinet boasts eye-wateringly good donut options. Prefab is the kind of place that thinks too highly of itself, as do its customers. Being invited here is like finding out your friend has lots of money, but no taste. Most of the clientele are depressingly middle class fat people - which might work for you. Avoid if you're a good person; enjoy the fattie options if you're not.

Excellent customer service and care...best waiters/waitresses I've come across.. delicious food and great coffee...great selection of food on the menu. I highly recommend this place 👌

Been here a few times and is always a fav with great atmosphere and service. First time getting porridge which was avg because I didn't appreciate it came cold but other than that is great.

A busy, bustly, noisy city cafe. Great natural light. Enthusiastic, professional wait staff offering good advice and slick service. Food is excellent with great menu choices, daily specials and an enticing range of counter food. The coffee is excellent too.

One of my favourite places in Wellington, and also one of the best lunches/brunches in the city! Staff is very friendly, all their food is really delicious (I especially like their famous seafood and bacon chowder), coffee is amazing as well. It is very busy, so it might be a good idea to book in advance. Prices are reasonable. I've been there a few times and will definitely come again.

Could not fault breakfast at Prefab. From the very attentive staff, to the fresh, generous portions and rich flavours, to the friendly busy vibe, this is a spot well worth going to for breakfast or brunch.

One of the best lunch places in Wellington. Casual, super lively atmosphere with lots of space to sit and work for hours. The staff are wonderful, and never make you feel like you have to leave once you've finished. I've personally spent half a day working here and continue to do so from time to time. The Oli roll with mozzarella, basil, and tomato is a particular favourite. Their specials are always worth checking out as well!

Went to prefab for Friday morning and the place was heaving! Definitely a busy atmosphere, but in a nice way. Staff were attentive despite the chaos and we received our coffees and food quickly. The garlic mushroom special was incredibly rich and flavourful. I tend to prefer quieter places but I think I'll be coming back to prefab regardless.

Came here for lunch, I had fish and chips - very good. Cafe is very popular lots of tables but mostly full. Got a table outside which was very nice and quieter then inside. Great service, waiter knew the menu, food came reasonably quickly and was well presented and tasty.

Place is packed in Sat, need to queue. Food is great

We have spent a week in Wellington and of all the places we ate out this was by far the best. Fantastic service and food. They were very accommodating as we were in a hurry. In and out in 20!

I always like getting a coffee or a meal here. The service is excellent, and whilst they are usually very busy, they still look after everyone very well. The coffee is excellent, as is the food. They also manage to serve a quick takeaway coffee fast, even when they are very full with diners. The premises are modern too.

Great fit out, and good vibes, menu perhaps a bit limited, but what was there was great.

It was walking past this packed and buzzing place, hungry for my first meal in Wellington that I found myself compelled to try it. I was treated to one of the best meals I had in my week in Wellington, speedy and thoughtful service, a decent cup of coffee to rival anything from home. I liked the way the menu led with vegetarian options with meaty upgrades for those who wanted them. Went with a sourdough kind of a thing with fried haloumi and beetroot paste. Packed with flavour. Just awesome.

Always busy but the super efficient staff make sure that service is prompt and the tables are turned over as fast as possible. Relatively small menu but enough options to suit all tastes and everything is beautifully cooked. Excellent coffee makes this an ideal brunch choice

You cannot go wrong with Prefeb. Everything on the menu is presented beautifully and tastes fantastic. The staff are friendly and attentive - my coffee has been topped up regularly and tastes beautiful and fresh. There's a good selection from the pastry case and - if we're getting into the details - I love the interior design and the fresh rose bouquets. I'm over from Aussie at the moment for a work trip and I've enjoyed making this gorgeous eatery my office for the morning. Thanks for a warm welcome to Wellington, Prefab :)

Service here is second to none! Extremely friendly people and always accomodating. Great vibe in the café, with great food too. Only bad thing is it can be a bit pricey - but the quality of your meal will be excellent.

Served delicious foods and healthy beverages! A perfect place to dine or to have a quick snack. Went here a few months ago and I'm glad I did! Really good food, I recommend to anyone whom wants to dine here. I'd definitely like to dine here again. Totally satisfied with my experience.

Food was good. Atmosphere wasn't so much. There was no proper waiting area so people were just standing beside our table waiting to be seated. The maitre D was yelling behind us trying to get the other waiters to move faster which was not appealing. Service otherwise was good though.

Very good casual dining experience. We had a large group of 15 and they were able to seat us together at two tables outside. Despite the place being near to capacity, coffees and drinks came out quickly and meals arrived in good time too. Unfortunately a couple of the menu options were not available.

Prefab is a busy place, very popular and always consistently good to us! How Bridget and her team manages to place everyone is impressive in those busy days.! We visited again today, an early brunch that was smooth and seamless in the prompt service we received, as well as in the quality and presentation of the food. Top marks again Prefab!

A great place for breakfast. I had a very tasty muesli with lots of nuts and a tasty yoghurt. Others ordered toast which was baked in-house and was generous and tasty. The atmosphere was buzzing and the staff were efficient and very pleasant. I definitely recommend it.

On a miserably wet day heading into Prefab was a little like heading into the sunshine. Good coffee, awesome food and service - in Wellington, head there!

Busy place, dog friendly, quick turnover. Great coffee with tasty food. Nice cabinet selections. I have been here a couple of times, never disappointed. No wait for a table and polite speedy service. Waffles are great.

The best seafood chowder was recommended to us by our server. And because it was a bit windy and we were sitting on the patio thought it would be a good starter to our mea. It is the best chowder I have ever had anywhere in the world. East coast USA chowders have nothing on this one. I will be chasing a chowder as good as this for the rest of my life. Wish I lived on this continent so I could have it again. Delicious.

Arrived at 8:45 Saturday morning. Extremely busy and all tables full. We were seated right away at the bar which was fine. Ordered coffees to start. Coffees arrived within a few minutes. Food ordered at that point and I kid you not it arrived five minutes later! All cooked to perfection and yum. Nice work team!

Great atmosphere, got seated quickly. It is busy but worth the short wait for a table. Food was insane, bottomless coffee was great and I topped it off with a passionfruit donut. YUM

Great cafe with awesome coffee. It's an upmarket place that's great for casual business or social gatherings. Bridgette and the team will look after you very well. Try the "sweetie" toasted sandwich.

My first visit to Prefab. Excellent venue for lunch with my cousin's grown up son who's a fine young man. We both chose Reuben sandwiches which were delicious and very filling.

An iconic cafe in Wellington. Always very crowded so depending on which staff members service you sometimes their service might not be as good but overall great food and service and definitely great coffee. Cafe is very large. Music can be quite loud. Outside seating available.

I don't normally write reviews but feel i have to make this exception. Outstanding. Possibly the best breakfast I have ever had. Hyperbole aside, the haloumi/salad/bacon was delicious. Just go.

Such an incredible place. Amazing food, atmosphere, great music, they played Beatles the whole time we ate breakfast. Was so good we came back for lunch the same day. If they have the garlic mushrooms get em! The seafood chowder was delicious with a cheese crusted top. These guys know how to do it right.

What's not to like. Delicious food, great service and beautiful outdoor seating for those summer days. I have come a few times with my newborn and the staff are always so accommodating and ready to help. I've always managed to get a park within walking distance which is always a bonus too

Always love a trip to Prefab for brunch and a Saturday (and only Saturday because they're closed on Sundays! In what world does that make sense?!). The food is awesome! Really fresh and flavoursome. They do a truly superb coffee too. Expect to wait for a table - waits up to 10-15 minutes are not uncommon.

Although extremely busy, we were seated quickly and our orders taken, which were brought out quickly. Everything was delicious and the staff so friendly despite being under pressure. Highly recommend and don't be put off by the queues

This place is superb. Amazing food, drinks and most importantly baby friendly. There is often a wait for a seat (because it's sooo good) but never more than 10-15min on the busiest days. The kitchen is huge so meals come quick. Try the salmon potato gratin on Saturday and get a loaf of bread to take home.

Had lunch in Prefab twice ! Very busy on a sunny day but it worth it ! The food is great (I choose the burger twice), the staff very helpful and friendly even when it's very busy. If you can, I recommend the outside section, it's nice to enjoy the sun while having lunch ++ top coffees

Prefab is usually busy because it is always good. The food is great, and the best espresso coffee I’ve had in Wellington was here. They are also one of the only places that serves bottomless drip coffee in town! What a treat.

Excellent lunch, the daily streak sandwich special was very tasty with the gherkins being a real standout. The cod was also excellent and we enjoyed the perfect beer and wine range along with a lovely coffee to end

Nice muesli!! Fruits are fresh like banana, strawberry etc. Other dishes are also tasty. Nice place to have your meals. Staff also courteous in their serving. Good.

Waitresses and waiters are the best in the business. Large open design, great jazz music, bottomless filter coffee, delicious food. It doesn’t get much better than this.

I remember the bacon was awesome. I liked the set up. Not that much variety if you are Vegan / Vegetarian. Toast was rock hard but customer service was good. I could see that their bread was made fresh.

Probably one of the most consistently busy cafes in Wellington. With that being said the service is always top notch. Love the coffee and daily soup specials :) this place is awesome to be creative in. Free wifi,good coffee, and friendly people. Always a great vibe.

Very warm atmosphere and a great service from the staff. I had the chicken dish which was average. I wish they put some sauce on the plate or potatoes rather than lentils. It was dry but ok.

Iced coffee is delicious, service is magical - fast and efficient. The potatoes, honestly I could stuff myself with them until I become a human piñata. Salmon is smoked yet slightly sweet. Eggs perfection. An absolute gem.

Great coffee and good food, the curried egg sandwich is to die for. It gets very busy, people queue to get in. It can be quite noisy due to the hard surfaces and exuberant customers!

Prefab has been our local eatery for a long time now. We’ve been coming here since our daughter was born (casual 4-5years) The staff are amazing, the food is great. The menu is always evolving. The best part of it all is the coffee and the atmosphere of prefab

Excellent atmosphere. Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and good food. Only negative I can think off is I needed a power point for my laptop and there was only one in the corner but that table was already taken. More power points will be helpful.

Went at 11am on a weekday for an early lunch when it wasn't too busy - the coffee and food were amazing, the service was friendly and quick, and the space was light and airy. Thoroughly enjoyed the experience and will be back, even though parking in the area can be a pain.

Very nice place to to eat, was a queue so it's popular and there may be ten to fifteen minute wait, but it's definitely worth the wait, friendly staff, great coffee, amazing service, great facilities and really nice food. One of the places one has to visit and experience.

Ambience, music, quality service and food

Really solid brunch or lunch option for a Saturday. Note they aren't open on a Sunday which took us by surprise one weekend. The potato gratin was exceptional and a nice twist on the classic brunch formula.

Great place to go, for good coffee, good food and good service. No surprise it's busy.

Best burger in town. Delicious coffee roasted on site. I love getting the bottomless filter coffee and a small jug of cream. The staff are efficient and friendly, and get you seated as efficiently as possible.

It's ok. Coffee is ok. Way too busy, way too noisy, and I realize the wait staff are trying to achieve good service with table service... But as they were rushed, it came accross as pushy. I would have much preferred to have gone to the counter and ordered then sat outside where I could actually hold a conversation rather than yelling over everyone else that was there. But the waitress said no we couldn't do that.

A great cafe with a tonne of superb food options. I have tried the risotto and cajun fish - both beautifully cooked meals. Prefab also has a very good beer and wine selection. Fantastic service from the staff.

Big, open industrial style eclectic eatery that reminds me a lot of a New York warehouse loft style with lots of light streaming in from windows all around. The owners have created a most wonderful inner city oasis for those who like a busy environment rich in aromas from expresso and pour plunge coffee blended roasted and caramelised onsite, from the ACME bread range naturally fermented and baked throughout the day and from the amazingly fresh, delicious seasonal breakfast and lunch plates served to regulars, office workers, city visitors and brunchers sitting at a nice variety of indoor and outdoor tables and counter tops. Prefab are open 7:00AM-3:30PM M-F and 8:00AM-3:00PM Saturday, no reservations are taken but there is never too much of a wait to be seated - in the times I have been to Prefab with or without a group of friends seating has been immediately available. My favourite is Grilled Halloumi, Peach Butter, Avocado, Basil Pesto, Focaccia & Bacon for lunch and the "to-die" for Eggs Benedict served with fresh spinach and potato gratin for my Saturday start. Staff are well trained, polite, efficient and friendly. Most organisations are a reflection of the top and with the hospitality genius owners (founders of the iconic Caffe L'affare in nearby College Street) onsite on-the floor running the business of the 180 seat eatery, the 120 seat hall to the rear set up for inner city weddings, celebrations and corporate events, the onsite coffee roastery, the onsite bakery (which supplies fresh and warm bread to local retailers e.g. Moore Wilsons) or their ACME shop business, maintaining quality and style it is not hard to see why this eatery has become one of Wellington's much-loved eating establishments. I think Prefab stands for Pretty Fabulous - you can't go wrong with this wonderful and iconic eatery.

My first visit for lunch and feel the food is just okay but too expensive. Second visit i tried their donut (recommended by others) and it is delicious. I visit again because of their donuts. It satisfy my sweet tooth.

Best coffee in Wellington - the main barista has loads of awards to back up my claim! In addition, the food is excellent and most of it is made on site from scratch with the most basic ingredients. Service is good and the place itself is larger and very clean, with modern lines and a clear view into the kitchen. A true Wellington icon.

With the market on it was a little confusing where the queuing was starting because of heavy foot traffic from the side door and a solid queue at the front door . Well handled by the team, although my wife felt the service formality didn't match the setup for the day ie. for simply taking ample seating at the bar versus a table. It was fine for me as I am more familiar with the layout.

Really enjoy coming here for a by-myself coffee or breakfast, perhaps doing a bit of work on my laptop with their free, fast wifi. Great people watching, although sometimes the vibe can be a bit pretentious in that middle class kinda way. Oli rolls in particular are off the chain, in fact all the food has always been delicious.

I've been to prefab a few times over the past couple of years. Everytime I've found the experience really mediocre. As it's not a cheap place to eat, the food is mediocre, the portions have been small, and there are many other cafes in the vincinity I could recommend, I really can't recommend Prefab as a place to go :( Some positive notes: the decor is nice, and the Acme bread is really nice to grab fresh as part of lunch.

Wanted to say a big shout out to Nina and Lucy!! We came in pretty rough after a night out and they were absolute ace servers, had a class chat with us, so friendly, exerted no judgement and gave us such amazing service! We all wanted to give them a warm hug and big thanks!!

Prefab have a great function space whether it's open for summer or closed in for winter / nighttime. Went to an urban design event talking about reducing private vehicle priority while hearing the background noise of snarled traffic on the adjoining SH road. LGWM.

Prefab not only has incredible coffee and great food, but also bakes the best sourdough bread in Wellington and is worth the trip just to pick up a loaf. The chocolate brownie is also a must!

We live in Tauranga visit prefab every time we go to Wellington. ALWays fabulous even in winter when you in a queue a get served complimentary hot chocolate because it's cold.. .yes that did happen !!!!

Pro tip: you often have to cue for this place but they don't generally seat people outside. If you'd like to sit outside you can just grab a table without waiting to cue if one is free.
