Wonderful little cafe. I've had scrambled eggs on toast, with bacon on the side, probably a thousand times in my lifetime (an lived to tell the tale) . . . . and the soft scrambled eggs on homemade crispy sourdough wheat toast, with a mound of bacon on the side . . . . was the BEST I'VE HAD IN MY 66 YEARS. No kidding. And GREAT coffee. Friendly staff, laid back, just lovely all around. Don't miss this little gem of a place.

My initial visit was for a caramel latte and got chips. The food was great and the staff were happy and smiling. The food options on display were plentiful. Thank you for making my first visit a happy one.

Great selections of hot food, cabinet food and drinks both, hot and cold! I recommend the jar of Russian fudge on the counter ($4 for a sizeable block that is very more-ish!). The staff are welcoming and friendly, and the service is impressive as it's always a popular café with a queue!

I've been going to Blue Belle Cafe in Island Bay for years. They're famous for their pies, and for good reason. This time, however, I'd just been to the doctor who ordered me to lower my cholesterol - so I ordered avery yummy looking smoked salmon salad instead. I asked for large, which they measure by the size of their takeaway containers. When it arrived, it looked pretty darn small - did I ask for the small size by mistake? It's kinda hard to get the staff's attention in there when it's busy, so I queued up again, and no - I did ask for a large. I'm impressed with the way staff dealt with this. The young female staff member instantly apologised, before even seeing my salad, and then came over to have a look at it. Without hesitation, she said she would put more in it, and returned promptly with a much improved "large" salad. I got the impression they freely spoon the salad into the dish; maybe they could try aiming for more accurate portion sizes by measuring it in future, using the applicable takeaway container? Anyway, thank you Blue Belle Cafe for clearly prioritising my expectations above whatever the "correct" portion size was, as this exchange could have gone oh so wrong. Meanwhile my partner, whom I'd taken to the doctor with me specifically to hear the messages about cholesterol and heart disease, was very happy with his pie, sausage roll and iced coffee topped with marshmallows and cream....

Good local cafe if you don't feel like heading further afield. Local Flight coffee, well made although could have been hotter. Pancakes were fluffy but sweet, and service was fast. Just lacks a bit of soul, but a good stop for breakfast before venturing into the southerly winds. The pies look pretty delish.

This is a lovely little cafe and I would have given it 5 stars but the bathroom let it down. The service is polite with all orders placed at the counter. There is a variety of cabinet food and great pies plus a menu. We ordered coffees and food which were great. The table next to us had an amazing looking lamington. The cafe was full and we were lucky to get a table. The bathroom needs a good clean and freshen up. The change table needs replacing. With a better looked after bathroom this would be 5 stars.

Located on the main street in Island Bay in the southern suburb of Wellington, this is a nice little cafe and bakery. The food was good, especially the pies (my sometime picky son gobbled all his up). My daughter also enjoyed her fish bites from the kids menu. The only reason I am not given them more stars, is that I found the "big breakfast" was not quite to my liking and overall the food was quite pricy for an outer suburb. Still, the fact that none of the food was wasted (i.e. both kids enjoyed their meals) is a big positive. The service was professional, polite and prompt. The setting itself was reasonably pleasant. Three and a half stars I reckon.

Had the chance to have a bite from this great place on my trip to New Zealand in January. The food was reasonably priced and are very tasty. The pies are to come here for as they're absolutely delicious! The ketchup in the tomato-shaped container was pretty cute. Definitely coming back!

Edit: 2 years later and still one of very few places in Wellington that make a coffee good enough to drink plain. Keep up the great work! Very nice coffee. A great little cafe with a nice atmosphere and the music isn't too loud that you're trying to talk over it which is always appreciated. The staff are friendly and the place is very clean. I could only ask for one thing and that's a wider range of gluten-free food but that's something I'm accustomed to when I eat out.

Can't fault it. We had the big breakfast each, he had fried eggs I had poached. The meals were great. The bread/toast was lightly herbed, maybe cumin, yum! The coffee was good. Service was quick. Prices were about right. Their counters were full of yummy looking foods too - pies, cakes, slices. Like I said, can't fault it, which is funny cos I can always find fault :)

A friend who is a taxi driver in Wellington recommends this place and says it has the best pies in Wellington and I agree. I took three friends from out of the country there and we each ordered a different pie...and tried a bit of each others'. The pies are absolutely fabulous with a light, flaky pastry and generous, tasty fillings. I really think I'd stick my neck out and say that these are probably the best pies I have ever had. Yes, ever!

This place is sensational - well worth the trip out from town, and if you're nearby it's a no-brainer. Best meat pies in Wellington - they have a huge range, including traditional and innovative fillings, and they're exquisitely crafted. The coffee is fantastic, service sublime, and overall experience is beyond reproach. Brilliant!!

Omg the blue bell cafe... I have been going the for like 7 years now, gives me lots of memories! And there's amazing food like the best cookies with a great texture and nice chocolate chips as well, also the pancakes which have a epic flavor and taste that makes my day! Also it takes the people there like 2 minutes to get your food ready, also the pies are also amazing amazingly tasty as well as the bread they make! I would give this place 9999999999999☆ stars if I could! I would 100% recommend coming to the blue bell cafe for 10/10 food and amazing seats and a nice place to eat!

I have been here four times now. The food is consistently delicious and the coffees are always hot as opposed to just warm. The cafe is clean and the furnitures comfortable. Would definitely keep going back as long as these standards remain high.

Great little cafe in Island Bay. Nice wait and counter staff. The coffee was served almost immediately. My order was nothing special but came out in a timely manner and was cooked to a great standard. Plenty of seats if you are with small parties, otherwise a large leaner/bench for those coming in and out.

Lovely service at the Blue Belle Cafe, and the food is delicious. They make a really good cappuccino with cinnamon sprinkles. A must for anyone visiting Island Bay. Highly recommended.

The food is appetizing and portions are plentiful but I was not thrilled with the burger: meat too cooked and too spicy for my taste, too mixed tastes. Tastes and colors... French fries are frozen. The comments made me think that I would spend a great time, I stayed a little on my hunger. (Original) Facile de s'y garer. Des places sont disponibles à l'intérieur comme à l'exteireur. Un menu enfant est disponible. Quelques minutes d'attente mais il y avait du monde. La nourriture est appétissante et les portions sont copieuses mais je n'ai pas été emballé par le burger: viande trop cuite et trop épicée a mon goût, trop de melange de goûts. Les goûts et les couleurs... Les frites sont surgelées. Les commentaires me laissaient penser que j'y passerais un excellent moment, je suis resté un peu sur ma faim.
