This place offers good value for money. Good service, honest food. If you are hungry then stop here. Nothing fancy, just honest home-style cooking with generous portions. The restaurant service is all clean and good with friendly staff. The washroom facilities are situated at the back behind 2 closed doors. One improvement they could make would be to keep the extractor fan running at all times in this area.
M.
Good on you for inclusiveness and generous spirit. And shame on the govt for forcing their controlling mandates on you and your staff. This really isn't about "safety" anymore and NZ is waking up.
B.
I came here in the hopes of meeting Winnie P. While he was not here, I could feel his presence. The smell of granddad's smoking jacket and vintage carpet supplements the complimentary white sandwich bread in a way that offers a thrill for young and old. One of the finest bathrooms I have visited this year. Quite delightful.
S.
Just had a massive meal at the Green Parrot The owner, cook Kosta has cooking here since 1987 and he recently turned 80 are used to cook 7 days a week but with Covid now only five days a week with covid19 they are only open five days a week The rump steak I had cooked to perfection and the whitebait fritter was outstanding and of course the sandwich bread was beautiful
E.
A very pleasant place to dine, very friendly and great service.
P.
First time back here in 10 years. Still the same great almost old worldly atmos, white bread & butter as a freebie. Ideal for carnivores.
R.
Excellent food the quality was very impressive and great atmosphere. The staff gave excellent service.
C.
Iconic and nostalgic. Very very large portions. Would recommend the whole Flounder. The "Mixed Grill" is a challenge yet to be achieved.
M.
Nostalgic and homely. Massive portions and all the retro your heart desires. Old school service and complimentary bread and butter. This place reminds me of my folks - it's definitely somewhere they would have gone for dinner back in their day. The carpet takes me back to my childhood - I'm sure we've all had it at sometime in our lives! You can be forgiven for not being able to finish your meal because they are huge so if you're planning on trying the apple pie (and you so should!) then I highly recommend sharing a plate. I add eggs to the schnitzel and it's enough to feed 2 of us.
D.
Good main meal. The sides are a lot smaller than last time, this was not a bad thing. Overall pretty good. Was left a long time before we got someone's attention to order dessert. Let down by the desert seemed stale and not great taste. Still worth a visit if you like good meat heavy dishes.
L.
Food is always good. Mixed Grill was excellent and incredibly filling. It's certainly a meal you need to prepare for. You won't leave hungry. Great service. Good atmosphere at the Parrot.
r.
Been going here for 45 years. The portion sizes are proving a challenge these days! Huge!
n.
Meal was huge but it was delicious and it is very worth it's price. Service was quick and very good such lovely staff and took our order as soon as we were ready. Meals came quick and apple pie was delicious, Will come again!
R.
Very nice Greek family run restaurant from 1926. The Bluff Oysters raw with a squeeze of lime made a perfect entree and the lamb chops and stake were great. Greek salad in a Greek restaurant! Mmmmmm!
L.
Good solid North-of-England style meat/taters/veg and Speights beer; perfect for when you're tired of the broad range of South (East) Asian options that Wellington has to offer—assuming that that's something which happens to you.
The price was a little spennies for what you were getting, but the meal was unarguably sound, and the service was friendly and quick. Seven thumbs up.

This is an iconic Wellington Eatery. The food and service is excellent. Either the Lamb’s Fry and Bacon and Lamb’s Kidney and Bacon or Sirloin Steak is always cooked to perfection. Entrance and seats are easily accessible for people with mobility issues. Well worth a visit!
C.
Awesome old-school style cafe. Great for a Sunday morning. Would definitely come back.
C.
Hands down the best kiwi grub you will find anywhere in NZ
D.
Partner likes the steak 🥩 Staff are very well mannered and friendly 👍
G.
Great meal, friendly staff, although service was extremely slow.
R.
Iconic old school Kiwi Cafe with a long history and huge meals. Friendly staff excellent service.
P.
Very different menu, not my taste and expected more then literal white sliced bread on the table however the schnitzel was fantastic. If you love organ meats and old Style kiwi meals be great
J.
Another bucketlist item ticked off! Iconic Wellington eatery since 1926 which delivers classic food and lots of it! The service is relaxed, friendly and slick. If you haven't been, book now! 5+ stars.
B.
Warm and inviting great food no fuss walked in was able have a table straight away the waiters friendly 😀and helpful meal arrived after a short wait . Thank-you
A.
The best place in Wellington to get a man size dinner, the servings are decent and not some fairy sized mouth full on an oversized plate.
Prices are realistic, though the T Bone I love has sadly become out of my reach price wise.
The atmosphere is warm and family friendly, with regulars been welcomed like family.
Great service and great food, look forward to returning again.
R.
As usual it did not disappoint.
I found this place when i first travelled to Wellington for work in the 1990s and ensure i come back every time im in Wellington.
I also recommend all my Friends in and out of Wellington go here if they have the chance.
B.
The food is the best ever 25 years I've been going and always a great atmophere
t.
A still vibrant and still giving old school style grill. Stepping through the doors is like going back fifty years and its not just the menu, its the atmosphere and the mostly local or at least NZ cliental. The food is very no frills but done well and generously. Not the place to bring a trendy foodie - everyone else will have a good time.
T.
The place has a lot of history as it's almost a century old. One of the walls is decorated with pictures of cast members from the Lord of the Rings that went dining here, which gives it an extra touch. The food was okay, but definitely not worth what they're charging.
L.
Beautiful big big meals
A.
Fantastic! 96 years in Wellington and still going sure speaks for itself. The Parrot tends to take a good bite from your wallet but the servings are generous. Professional, friendly staff. Nice environment. Good for families or work gathering.
A.
Absolutely delicious food, huge portion sizes, very friendly staff and always buzzing with locals.
We've dined here many times (if not hundreds) and the consistency of quality mouth watering food, huge portion sizes and great value for money makes it a crowd favorite for birthdays, graduations or just a casual catch up with friends.
G.
On a busy Thursday night we found a good table with no reservation and the food was wonderful. Generous helpings, nostalgic bread-and-butter on each table and very friendly service. I had kebabs - two large skewers of tender beef and lots of fat chips (naughty treat) and healthy salads. He had bacon and kidneys again with chips and salads - a generous well cooked plateful. Best value for a traditional, no-frills, New Zealand meal in Wellington IMHO!!
H.
Wellington's oldest and most traditional restaurant (1926) offering steak and fish meals with chips and salad. Large servings, well cooked in the same hearty way they've done for ever. Don't miss the wall mural of well known Wellington people.
P.
Recently dined here having not been for years. Was looking forward to the Weiner Snitzel, but was disappointed in a soggy deep fried crumb, that was quite thin and overcooked. Not the way I remember it, but perhaps it never was. Chicken livers were great though. I thought the prices were a little steep for deep fried and grilled food plus coleslaw. I really wanted the Green Parrot Tobe great, was really disappointed it wasn't. Staff were very good though.
M.
Spot on. Very clean and tidy. Good selection of food. Staff great. Parking can be a problem but that's minor concerned with the service. Very popular place so may pay to book a table.
J.
Atmosphere Atmosphere Atmosphere. I had a great time here. The staff are wonderful. The grill is make from melted down gun barrels. The coffee was good. I only tried deserts but they were great as well. Check it out!
B.
A throwback for Kiwi cuisine of the 1950s. When looking at the menu prices, note that the servings are generous. Good selection of beers and wines. Well prepared meats. A good place to take vegan friends for a laugh!
B.
Iconic Wellington Restaurant still serving the same meals that I used to order some 48 years ago. I always make a point of visiting the place whenever I go to Wellington and the nostalgic meal never fails to impress. Try it and you will be going back.
W.
the best food i have eaten in my whole life. if i could pick my last meal before i die i would pick this every time. the meat was cooked better than perfection. incredibly helpful staff. amazing service and such a cool restaurant.
J.
Steak and fish were very well cooked, with generous portions, but service was quite poor. A member of our party was spoken to quite rudely by a staff member for needing more time to choose from the menu, and staff refused to give partial value on a voucher we used to pay that more than covered the cost of the meal.
P.
And eternal experience - fabulous - service is generally good - can be a bit patchy but made up for by the food
M.
Another amazing meal green parrot my whanau /family just loved their meal
D.
Great experience in an old fashioned restaurant. Food was delicious, great service and prices are reasonable.
K.
Good food and good service
4 star not for their fault but we needed to go too far to find parking... else thumbs up...
p.
Well guys my first experience was with my wife she had the pork chops for 35 and i the t bone back then they were 40. I consider myself a wellingtonian and read the reviews and got upset. I have told many a people to go to the green parrot for the biggest steak meal in NZ. They have never ever complained and are jealous Wellington has such a place. I base all steak meals i have had to the green parrots t bone steak meal and have never ever have had a meal in the steak range to top it. My meal again was the t bone steak meal and yet again you did not let me down. My meal was 58 but i did get eggs. I knew not to be greedy and get sides but couldn't help myself. I recommend the t bone to everyone if you get sides get ready for a to go box. Thanking the staff great work girls and guys. Guys youve never let me down and im so rapt about that. Thanking you so much Nate Brown
G.
A bit of a step back in time place to have dinner.
R.
Local institution great food and service... Very retro...
G.
Expensive for (albeit very good) pub food, but worth it for the nostalgia of formica tables, vinyl chairs and complementary sliced white bread. Definitely a blast from the past. Friendly helpful staff and large servings
A.
Nothing short of fantastic here. You will never leave dissapointed. No fancy dancy mucking around, straight up great feed here.
S.
The green Parrot always provides a fantastic meal. I have never had a bad experience. Booking not essential but can be needed in the weekends as still VERY popular. Been going for about 25 years. Yet to have a bad or poor meal.
T.
Friendly service. But unfortunately nothing interested me on the menu so I didn't stay
J.
Classic culinary institution. You don't get to survive in restaurant world without having some class. Warm atmosphere. Comforting food. Friendly service
a.
A great meal in the traditional way...plenty of it, and top quality ,fresh fish and I mean fresh, and melt in your mouth meats, attentive young staff overseen by Wellingtons workaholic chef young Costa...still at the grill at 76 years old...
W.
7/11/2013 Absolutely fantastic, my wife and i have been going there for 30 years, we now live in Christchurch , we were in Wellington last week and called in for a meal, and the food and service is still top notch, love the place, will always call in when we are up there, cheers guys, keep it up.
PS my mum and dad have been eating there for 50 years, and still talk about it.
J.
Great food big portions, humble place to dine, family business that has been operating for years upon years just that just want people to enjoy themselves and act like a big family, down to earth place ❤ wellingtons hidden gem.
T.
Was ok steak was over cooked however the portion size was massive. We were a tad confused why I had to pay extra for an empty plate, after i had already paid for the food.
E.
Great homely food unfortunately we missed out on the flounder.
J.
People are great! Food pretty good. Facility is noisy and cooking smells very strong. Maybe eat out side next time, if it's not raining
G.
Great historic place in Wellington. Allowed the group freedom to Express vocal cords, appreciated 👍 with others customers joining in the fun. Food excellent.
J.
Great place, not a lot of space. Small tables.
Clean, the 1KG steak is huge and tasty but it gets cold while you eat it.
N.
A Wellington institution offering well cooked food in generous portions. The staff are friendly and the experience is reliable.
B.
This was a great restaurant experience nothing fancy but boy was it good and plenty of it this place as been here since 1929 and l can see why, located within easy walk of Te Papa and the waterfront also some of the cast of the Lord of the Rings had eaten here as there are photo's on the wall enjoy
M.
No kids menu, but they will do half orders on some of the menu items to accommodate the kids.....good food, big servings, a nice place to eat.
A.
Always nice eating here. Nice staff, nice food, good size portions and price. Maybe including a vegan or vegetarian option would be cool.
r.
It was lovely, thank you Green Parrot
C.
Old school but that's what makes it special 😃 great food and service
J.
Absolutley beautiful meal. The meals are a really good size so make sure you are hungry when you come here.Great value for money.
.
T.
Not as good as it used to be. Liver and bacon needs to come with gravy and mash not chips and salad!
C.
I've been going to the green parrot for 50 + years, on and off.Have always enjoyed the service. The food is great, pretty good alcohol selection as well.
J.
Just luv this place, one of Wellingtons best oldie but goodie restaurants. Place to go when you visit the Capital.
M.
Big meals, unpretentious food, prices ok. Decor could really do with an update, feels like an 80s restaurant but not in a fun themed way.
R.
Wow... what can I say about he food here other than dont snack before the mains are served... I love the meals and the atmosphere too... staff always look after us.
N.
Friendly staff. Nice food but quite standard. Sea food is actually more like fish and chips (deep fried) but really nice as well
M.
Had the fillet steak.
The chef knows how to do a awesome medium rare steak.
T.

(Translated) The menu is a bit small, but everything is very tasty. It's beautiful there and celebrities like Lord of the Rings performers have been here. We felt very comfortable and were treated very friendly. Since we are fans of Greece, we had a goodbye conversation with the owner of the restaurant. It was such a warm, warm conversation! I think we love his country, speak some Greek, give our daughter the first name of the city of Larissa, that opened his heart to us and he said he wanted to drive us around and so much more Would have spent time with us. We would have loved to hear his story of how he came to NZ over a glass of wine. We think it's a shame that his granddaughter Sophia doesn't speak Greek. Kind regards to this wonderful family! We would like to come again! Giassou!

Giassou!
