Located on the shoreline of the Whakatane River this motel/hotel has standard rooms in a two level building, cabins and three "villas" cottages. We stayed in the Front Villa with water view. Charming 100 to 150 year old cottage, full equipped kitchen, fireplaces, lounge, reception area. Bedroom and small Bath. Charming but not 100% everyone 's cup of tea. Perfect for and extend stay. Great food at its Cafe. Recommended

Stayed for work and the place was great. Comfy bed, spacious room and friendly staff. I also enjoyed the location with interesting walks turning left and right leaving the main entrance. Very close to restaurants and shops.

We enjoyed our stay at Awa Motel. We stayed one night in room 7. Rooms are clean and spacious but basic in design, however have everything you would want. Shower head is low and non adjustable but otherwise good power. No air conditioning but there is a fan which was a necessity as rooms were warm. Free parking on site. Great central location, walking distance to town centre. Beautiful cafe on site that opens at 7am. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Would recommend a stay here!

I've traveled extensively throughout New Zealand, staying in numerous accommodations. Awa exceeded my expectations; it was even better than I imagined! The cabin#34 I stayed in was pristine, with a fresh, clean scent and gleaming metal surfaces. It was impeccably maintained, like brand new. Every corner, including the shower and toilet, was spotless. The cabin was well-equipped with essentials like utensils, dish soap, TV, air-conditioning, and toiletries. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the complimentary coffee and snacks were delicious. The staff were friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall excellent experience. I highly recommend Awa—it's more than just a 5-star motel, especially with its stunning ocean views. Thanks for a memorable stay!

The staff are absolutely amazing, so kind and helpful. I got the double studio room, and very nice use of space. Facilities are very nice, so is the bathroom. I think if the room had air conditioning, the experience would be a little better, but not by much.

I stayed in a cabin. It was pleasant enough, but there wasn’t a comfortable chair to sit on (only hard plastic ones). The view was of neighbouring cabins but was nice and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. A hot plate and couple of pots would have been nice as I like to cook my own food.

Have travelled from North Queensland Australia. We have just had the pleasure of spending two weeks in a quiet Micro Village unit. Beautifully clean and comfortable. The staff were very helpful. Great location and would highly recommend staying at this property.

Helpful reception and a lovely cafe on site, this is a 'village' with a variety of rooms and chalets. Spotlessly clean rooms that are well poportioned with Tele Wi-Fi and well stocked kitchen. Good pub nearby serving lunches and dinners. High quality bedding, of crisp white cotton. More pillows are needed.

Rooms were good, service was excellent from the female staff member. Not so much from the male. Sky tv did not work in my room. I alerted the male at the front desk the next morning and was told the guest prior must have disconnected it. It would be good if employees could check everything is in working order for the next guest staying.

Very good. We had a deluxe apartment for 4 people and it was excellent. Spacious, well equipped, clean and the most comfortable bed ever! There is also free access to laundry facilities (washing machine and tumble dryer. The staff were always on hand and very helpful. Staying at the motel also gives you mates rates on the White Island tour, New Zealand's most active volcano, which is a must see. We really enjoyed our stay thank you.

The Awa Motel is located in a scenic area of Whakatane. Our group had the warmest and friendliest welcome from management and staff who were helpful throughout both our stay there. Rhe atmosphere was so serene and warm. The food was to die for and the coffee, what can I say, I had to have seconds and thirds. I recommend to any one who chose to stop over in whakatane to book early at this motel because they are very popular. We have been asked to go back and we will next time we are down them ways. Thank you to management and staff there for your A+ services.

Stayed in the Micro Village part of the motel and was very happy. All the staff I met were very pleasant to deal with and the attached Café was handy when we didn't have breakfast plans one morning. We spent most of the time walking to the places we wanted to go to as this was well situated to the i-site, marina and shops. Recommended.

Beautiful, clean, spacious units with lovely, friendly, helpful staff made for a lovely stay. Being within walking distance to CBD and wharf was such an added bonus. SIDE NOTE. If there was numbered parking correlating with each unit, PLUS a clear msg on your website stating one park per unit (Micro Units to use their park only) with extra vehicles & guests visitors vehicles to park off-site then that would make this venue absolutely perfect. 👍 We had one vehicle, two units but oft'times we were hard pressed to find parking on site. Once we came back to a packed carpark so we parked off site, but we're annoyed when 10 mins later we saw a whanau with 3 vehicles drive and park in the micro village. Upon check-in we did query parking and we're told there was sufficient, but clearly there wasn't as some guests had more than one vehicle. Upon check-in you have guests write their vehicle rego ... well, I would have signage outlining one vehicle per unit and all others will be towed. Other venues have done that with perfect results. 👍

Nice clean place, walking distance to restaurants and the main shopping area. The check-in staff weren't the friendliest, but that's ok. The cafe attached to the place does great coffee, even has oat milk which my wife prefers.

This would be my second stay at the Awa Motel, and will come back for the 3rd stay. Great energy, location and people. The cafe offers some of the best food/coffee around (granola bowl is out of this world). Ohope beach is quiet and spectacular. Heres the waterfall behind the Motel. Fresh fish across the street at the harbor. Highly recommend Awa!

We stayed here on Anzac weekend. First time ever being in whakatane for myself and it was absolutely beautiful. The staff were very awesome and the cleaners done a awesome job :). Nice spot right in town so everything was just a minutes walk away. We went out exploring everyday and the walk and bike ride across the road was awesome as to be able to just go walking and getting some fresh air. I definitely would recommend this motel to anyone wanting to get away for a quiet weekend. We stayed in the apartment very spacious and the spa bath and shower were AMAZING. Maybe a bigger TV in the lounge would be something to look into but other than that everything was comfortable nice and we had a really awesome weekend staying at the white island Rendevous motel. Definitely be back again in the near future this time maybe bring the kids as they would love it even more especially with the parks and BMX track close by they would never get bored :) . Thanks again keep being awesome and amazing ❤

Very friendly staff. Has a beautiful cafe on premesis with delicious pancakes. Nicely set out room (micro villa) with a shower big enough for two! Contains a mini fridge, includes laundry facilities (shared) and portable clothes lines (for those of us who want to dry clothes naturally). Would stay again!

so close to the shops but very quiet. great cafe for breakfast or brunch attached to the motel. we always stay here. I personally love the little individual cabins the best as they have no syairs, just a ramp and deck and you can park your car right outside. Wheel chair and mobility friendly. Bbq area with outdoor seating around the cabins. Mandarin, orange, lemon and feijoa trees planted around the cabins, which are currently laden with fruit to eat.

None came close to the value you get here. Short walk to main town center with eateries and bars. Lots of parking. Secure and quiet.

Good hotel. Micro village is nice. Bit noisy with marae next door though playing bass music, but fortunately they turned it off during the night. Fast internet too, and good designated parking exclusively for your room. I noticed this building would suit someone on a wheel chair, since everything is designed around having space and room to move around a lot if your chair bound.

This was a very clean well presented motel. The staff were welcoming and helpful. No cooking facilities available was the only slight drawback but there was a spa bath and 50 chanel's on sky on offer. I would recommend it to anyone staying overnight or for a short stay.

We stayed in one of the chalets in the microvillage. It was lovely. Very modern, and had everything we needed including a really comfy bed. It's right next door to a tourist attraction and white island tours depart from the wharf across the way. There was no noise whilst we stayed and we had a thoroughly great time

Something a little different looking in Whakatane. Great location close to town and waterfront. Only downside was the handbasin with minimal bench space (even though there was room for a vanity) trying to get ready to go out meant having items teetering all over the place!

I personally like it and stay here regularly. Good quiet location, clean reasonable rooms with no smell, big variety of rooms, nice friendly staff. Just one annoying thing - very bad WiFi, this is why three stars and not five, in my opinion. Not for a business traveller if you need WiFi in the room. It is almost non existent, especially when full. So you will have to use your mobile data if you need internet. Perfect for getaway though... :-)

Comfortable stay in central Whakatane location My husband and I stayed in a standard double suite for 1 night. It was really spacious with plenty of space for a double bed, table and chairs and kitchenette. The kitchenette was really well equipped, the bed was comfortable and the WiFi worked well. The motel is in a really fantastic location - just a 5 minute stroll to the shops, bars and restaurants.

Great place to stay for couples or families! If you want to go to White Island or Motouhora Island, stay here because they can arrange it all for you since they also run both trips. We stayed 4 nights in the Back Villa and couldn't be happier with our stay! Great location right by the wharf and within walking distance to many restaurants in Whakatane. White Island and Motouhora Island both better than we could have hoped!
