Just passing through and needed brunch. Wow what a great Cafe and so close to the ocean. Best iced coffee I have ever had and by poke bowl was perfect and so delicious. Quick friendly service too. Will be back...

I didn't expect any tasty food. I just thought it's easy since the location was convenient. Staffs were very kind and clear about my fussy order, the food was very tasty. Pizza was quite nice than I had expected and ice coffee wasn't pretty but I loved it. Sweet corn fritters was also nice with sourcream. Only banana milkshake was average I can say, but still tasty ! The chairs won't be comfortable but that won't be something you can expect from ocean cafe.

Popular with the summer crowd. Long line up but was served quickly. Had the breakfast burger and latte. Was good. Smaller portion than I expected though. Next time I’m getting the eggs Benedict. They looked good. Friendly staff. Beach vibe.

The most amazing breakfast I've had since bat soup got out of control in a market place in China ,outstanding and Atomic Coffee!

I've been coming to Blackies for years now, and every time the staff are super friendly, the coffee is amazing and the food is good and plentiful. It can be super busy during the holiday period, but it is well worth the wait. A Whangamata must!

Beautiful food and the prices were good too. Very popular. Could just use some more shade but otherwise very recommended! We will be back. The caramel slice is soooooo good!!!

Location by the surf club is great, coffee is also good. The relaxed seating area is nice even in wetsuit clothing.

Staff do so well dealing with huge volumes of people, all with a smile. Caramel slice is the BEST. Always good coffee.

Definitely one of the best places to go for lunch after a swim at the beach. The food is always delicious and the staff are so nice!

Pork in my tacos was definitely old :(( felt sick after eating just one. But our bacon and egg sandwich was so nice as well as our smoothies.

Good food, good service. Smallest sized poached eggs but very tasty. The holes in the roof from the New Year's rave/riot are covered over but interesting to look at. Apparently on the TV news reports "members of the public were injured" during the rave. I'm only surmising here but judging by the sizes of the holes in the roof they may well have been hurt when they climbed onto and fell through said roof. Ergo they were idiots for being on the roof. Well worth a visit to this holesome restaurant.

Has fairly good food to go selection or if you fancy, it a has a relax moment enjoy the food and scenery, forget the rushing in life for the moment to enjoy your exclusive time quietly.

OMG, coffee is perfect every time and the food is top notch divine.

Have been here twice so far. The eggs Benedict was perfect. Perfectly cooked eggs, bacon and toast just a little more hollandaise would be nice. The pizza was so delicious. The chocolate milkshakes could possibly use some more ice cream but overall it's our favourite place to dine.

We ordered the eggs bene and big breakfast, both were delicious! Bacon nice and crispy, potato rosti crunchyand tasty, eggs cooked perfectly and yummy hollandaise sauce, coffee was great and superb venue.

My Eggs Benedict and salmon was average, ie not bad but not spectacular either. The service from the owner was rushed, and his manner abrupt. Not a natural, when it came to Hospitality, but maybe he was under pressure. An outdoor location, however it's tucked in behind the surf life saving club, so it was very difficult to see the beach. I'd give it one more go, and see if the service improved next time.

Location is fabulous! Great place for brunch or a coffee and a treat. Banana bread is delicious and great scones as well. Good selection of cabinet food and nice menu. My partner mainly goes there for their bacon and egg butties and says they are the best! GF and DF options. Awesome spot to go with your kids after a long walk on the beach. Very dog friendly. It gets quite busy over the weekends but service is fast. Super friendly staff. We're lucky for having this place in Whangamata.

Ate breakfast there this morning after seeing all the bad reviews. Let me say that it was the BEST breakfast I've had in years, the service was perfect and actually have nothing bad to say about Blackies. There were 5 of us and everyone was super happy. For all who gave this place a bad review I suggest you go to McDonald's.

Best brunch spot in Whangas hands down. Great coffee too!

This cafe is amazing ... great menu including a kids menu, super fast service with great quality food and the staff are just brilliant. We couldn’t believe how quickly they brought out our drinks and meals for such a large group. We visited twice over our long weekend and the experience was the same. Sitting under the trees on the park benches was just perfect. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Superb service. Wasn’t waiting long at all. Ordered 4 Kids meals (waffles) were outstanding. We ordered Vegetarian meal with poached eggs and Smashed Avocado with poached eggs, really good sized meals and super top quality. Will definitely be back tomorrow!

Fantastic little Cafe next to some spectacular beach views. Meals are fresh, tasty and come in decent portions. Food presentation is fabulous. Kids loved the pancakes. Great find.

Amazing staff, glorious world famous award winning location, very yummy food and (seriously now, no exaggeration) in my opinion the VERY best coffee in NZ. It is redolent of fine bean selection, scrupulous machine cleanliness and service and super skilled intuitive baristas. Do not ruin your trip to the Coromandel by not visiting WHANGAMATA, do not ruin your visit by not going to Blackies😀

Friendly staff mostly males, good spot for breaking right next to surf club

Came here for a wee little pit stop. Didn't get any food, just a Caramel Milkshake for $5. Tasted great. Did check the menu out, and they have an assorted range of options. Didn't look like other customers waited long for their foods, and their foods came out well portioned. Price range is pretty affordable as well. Would like to have stopped here for longer to try something out but I would recommend this place for others. They only have outdoor seating, but it's mostly under shade.

My wife loves Blackies but I'm 4/5. It's very pricy for what it is and while it's good it's not exceptional and you always seem to spend a long time queuing at the counter. For the price I'd go to Port Road Project every day of the week, where they cost about the same but their food is exceptional and great full table service.

Have been coming here for the past 4 years on our annual holiday. Usually I would give it a higher rating than 3 stars, but staff this visit, staff seem a little nonchalant, the scone we had was undercooked and doughy and bird poo all over the tables (difficult to control I understand as an outdoor setting). Given the negatives, however, I would still recommend going, as usually we've had positive experiences with good food and great for kids. Good coffees and generous kids ice creams at a very reasonable price.

Blackie has great coffee and the food is nice but I've been there on 3 separate occasions now and ordered a bacon and egg buttie without tomato sauce and each time its come out with tomato sauce . There is def a communication breakdown between the order taker and the kitchen

Busy, but 7 meals got delivered within 20 mins, room for improvement..John Dory was processed, corn fritters were ok & breki sausages werent that great.

Great location, not the best food. Not sure if there are better option around though, so this might be your best bet.

Grabbed coffees to go on our way back from our morning walk. Coffees were hot & strong - perfect!! Didn't order food this time. Popular cafe by surf club. Plenty of tables and relaxing on a fine day.

Lovely breakfast, smashed avo was huge. Warned us if the delay due to the volume of customers, but they were quicker than anticipated.

Very good place by the golden sands of Whangamata beach where you can sit on outside tables and enjoy a very tasty brunch washed down with excellent coffee. The staff are very nice and they have a separate place for takeaway coffee for those wanting to sit on the sand and watch the blue waters of the Pacific. The cafe is situated in a large park with clean toilets nearby. Highly recommended.

Great spot 👌 good service and place to go in Whangamata

To pick themselves off the ground after New Year and resume trading is just great, still continue to turn out great coffee and food with a smile.

Hands down the best avo smash in Whanga. Breakfast burgers are highly rated also. Great coffee. Would be good to see paper straw options for the milkshakes.
