Proformac computers repair products sold by Dick Smith Electronics, and I have recently inquired about the cost to replace a dead battery in an iPad mini 16gb +WiFi. After being hung up on the first time, I called back and was told the cost of labour is $95 (incl. GST presumably), and the cost of the battery was not given (would have to contact supplier), however a quick look on repair part stockists list genuine batteries between $40-$60 incl GST. The catch with Proformac Computers, however, is that it comes with a very disturbing warning which I want to warn everyone about. If Proformac happens to damage the screen (which has happened on NUMEROUS occasions as stated by Mike@proformac), then the CUSTOMER IS LIABLE !!! The cost of a new iPad Mini screen is listed in NZ at around $100, which would then make the cost of REPLACING A BATTERY in an Apple product which is 1.5yrs old around $260 NZD at this store....is this acceptable? In my opinion (as a electronics repair technician) it is far from acceptable. I would never hold my customer liable for damage I had caused in the process of repairing their goods. I have repaired thousands of xbox consoles and playstations, PSP's etc and if I screwed something up, I covered the cost. Warning the customer beforehand does not make it O.K.
EDIT: Star rating improved to 3
Since writing this review I've spoken to the owner who apologised for the customer service from his employee who has been reminded of the importance of being courteous on the phone, and he explained that the screen issue is really only when the ipad is already damaged, excessive pressure on the chassis can mean the screen is cracked when removing. In this case it seems reasonable to inform the customer of this, it is up to the customer to then decide if the potential cost is acceptable to them.
I haven't had any other dealings with Proformac yet but they have been in business in NP here for many years (10+ I think) so they must be doing something right, there are many more good stories about them than the odd poor rating. At least they followed up with me and apologised.

Suman and Seema go out of their way to make sure that their customers are happy. You can see this when you go into the shop and see customers that come in from 1996 and its now 2020.
Amazing work.
