R.Best dentist I have ever seen in Wellington. James was professional and courteous. I went in for an examination, x-rays and a thorough clean. James made the effort to ensure the process was as painless as possible. He also took the time to explain my x-rays and how I can improve my flossing technique. I really like how they are transparent with the approximate cost on their website. My one hour appointment was $236, which matched what I was expecting. The receptionist, Jo, was also very friendly and chatty, which helped put my nerves at ease.
S.Have visited Emily at Victoria Street Dental as a new patient for a bit of work and I couldn't rate Emily or the practice highly enough. They took such good care of me in the chair and were super empathetic and kind! Emily explains everything that is happening and gives good, honest advice about what the best treatment plan is for you.
The practice itself is super clean and modern and the equipment they use is all well kept and modern too. You definitely feel like you're in the right place when you sit in the chair!
Prices are super competitive with other central dentists and I would argue their quality of work is superior to any other practice I've visited in Wellington. Thanks heaps again team!
R.Would give more stars if I could. Wonderful, proffessional service. James is a fantastic dentist and evidently takes great care to ensure you're as comfortable as possible. The assistant was just as lovely and skilled. Prices are great, and so are the comfy, squishy chairs. I didn't feel any pain, which is so far from my last experience at another dentist where I had tears rolling down the sides of my face. I received no judgement for neglecting to visit a dentist for many years, and my fear of going to them has now disappeared. I highly recommend them if you are looking for a pain free, proffessional, expert and welcoming clinic.
R.The best dentist I've been to, anywhere. With one exception, here in Wellington, I would say that all dentists I've been to are pretty good but Victoria Street dental really are the best.
J.I had all four of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr James Au, and the process went very smoothly, with as little discomfort as possible. The practise manager Jo was also kind enough to make sure I arrived home safely after the procedure. Can't recommend this practise enough - the team are very friendly and professional and I'm stoked to have found a dentist I finally trust and enjoy going to.

V.I've been hunting around for an orthodontist to help me with straightning my teeth for quite some time now, and I'm so so soooo happy to have found Victoria Street Dental!! Everyone there is so kind and friendly, and like everyone else here says, James is really gentle and explains things in a way that you can understand easily~ ^^ I'm so happy with them and would definitely recommend them to anyone scared and looking for a good dental practice!!
K.I first went to James Au when he was at a large well known Wellington Dental chain. Having had experience of many Dentists at the firm over the years, from locums to partners, I can safely say that James impressed me as being the best in the company. When I found that he was no longer there :( I took the time to track him down :). Was pleased to find that he now had his own practice so that I could sign up with him again!

I have had to have a few procedures done and I can say that It was the best experience. I dont have enough words of praise for him. He is polite and kind and informative and he even gave me headphones to listen to my music so I dont hear the noise. You cannot feel any pain either when he works. A.I had two of my wisdom teeth removed by Dr James Au. He was very gental explained the process to me clearly. The Receptionist and manger, Jo gives and warm and friendly welcome everytime I went. The whole team is amazing there and I would highly recomend them.

F.I first went to see James and his team as my usual dentist wasn't available for an urgent appointment. I've been so impressed by James and his team that I decided to make them my new permanent dentist. James is very detailed oriented, talks you through exactly what he's doing an is never judgemental about the condition your teeth and gums are in. Jo and Amy are also lovely. I highly recommend Victoria Street Dental.
M.I have had the good experience of having Dr. James as my dentist. He has done root canals and other fillings. He is very gentle and caring. I trust his work and his advice completely, and all of his work has been outstanding. I love that they have a discussion with you, to explain why and how a procedure is done. The Practice Manager, Jo always has a welcoming attitude and serves with a smile. I highly recommend them.

z.James has done a brilliant job on my teeth!! I did the Fastbrace at another dentist, and a black triangle appeared between my two front teeth at the end of the treatment, and the dentist told me that she could not solve it through IPR. So I found James and he used IPR technology to close the black triangle perfectly for me. My teeth are now very beautiful. James is a very patient and very skilled doctor!！❤️
A.Staff is very friendly, responsive, and I love being able to make an appointment online :). Good place for those who have anxiety or are less-than-excited to go to the dentist (haha). They provide clear communication as to what is happening, and are very attentive to your comfort level - no surprises :).
M.After avoiding any dentist at all due to fear for quite a few years, mostly due to my 1960’s dental clinic experiences ( stuff of nightmares) I finally had to deal with it & searched for a well reviewed Wellington dentist.
James had consistently great reviews, however I was still very nervous & a bit sceptical.
Any fear I had was quickly gone, Jo is so friendly & helpful & James is so kind, gentle & extremely professional. Everything is explained thoroughly & options discussed.
He really does understand that there’s a whole generation of kiwis, some of whom have had terrible dental experiences, which helps a great deal, he gets it!
I feel like I’ve finally found a great dentist I can trust.
I recommend James without hesitation.

C.James has a very professional and gentle manner. I had 2 crowns done, and this went very well. the initial consultation was very reasonably priced. When I had the teeth done there was minimal discomfort, it was much easier than I had imagined :-)

Nobody really enjoys going to the dentist but I had a great experience.. probably the best dental experience Ive had and my first time in NZ too. E.I am very impressed with the service of Victoria Street Dental. From A to Z they are very professional and friendly. It was easy to make an appointment and my first treatment was handled with great care, no discomfort. The dentist went out his way to make me feel at ease and explain what he was about to do. His assistant was very helpful and competent and together they work as a great team... I would recommend their services to anyone.
H.I had been putting off going to the dentist as my last experience (with a different dentist) had been really unpleasant. James made me feel at ease, he was professional and empathetic and proved the dentist doesn't have to be a daunting trip! He was very knowledgeable and I felt like I learnt more about my teeth in my first appointment with him than I have in a lifes worth of dental trips. I'll definitely be back, highly recommend.
T.We went for a regular check and cleaning today and we were very impressed! We'll definitely come back and also recommend it to our friends. James is more gentle and thorough than any other dentists I had before, and trust me, we travelled a lot and have been through a lot of dentists. He was so gentle that I almost fell asleep in their comfy chair during the cleaning, haha. He also took photos of some tiny cracks on the back of my teeth and gave me good proactive advice. As a mother, the most important thing is that my two kids, five and three year old, were very happy during the whole visit. My kid said he wants to a dentist when he grows up, so James took a long time explaining the dental tools and equipment to him. Leaving the clinic, my kids were singing and dancing in the elevator, other people couldn't believe they just went to see the dentist. Who knew the dentist appointment could be so fun for kids! Anyway, if you feel Bee Healthy is not enough for your kids, it might be a good idea to take them here! Kids friendly, thumbs up!

After struggling to get an appointment with my usual dentist I got an appointment here on short notice. I was VERY impressed by how meticulous they were I even switched dentists. Would highly recommend these guys.
Also the tooth brushes they sell are awesome.
p.I haven't been to the dentist in 10+ years and was naturally pretty nervous. The team at Victoria street dental leave you feeling at ease and provide a genuine explanation of what options you have. I never thought I'd say I'm looking forward to my next visit.

However, he made the whole procedure simple and painless. both implants were placed without any issues. The recovery was seamless. J.I had great fear seeing a dentist because of traumatic root canal done in my teen!! But Hats off to Dr James Au, his root canal procedure was totally pain free and he made me feel so comfortable. At no point I felt like someone is touching the tooth. He is so friendly, humble, and explains every bit of your problem and the procedure in detail n makes u feel good at all times. I would recommend him to anyone. He is a great example of how a doctor should be. So grateful to see him at the right time after suffering so much toothpain the night before seeing him. Morever the Qcard payment makes it easy to plan your budget if you have an unexpected horrible toothache. Thanks a lot Dr James !!
C.I have put off seeing the dentist for quite some time now for obvious reasons, fear! I am aware that I have an old root canal tooth which still has an infection and after a long battle I have decided to get it retreated. I found Dr. Au on Google due to all his good reviews. I went in there with no expectation but was blown away by their amazing service. Dr. Au explained took time to explain things well, gentle and well mannered. I will definitely be going back and recommend everyone I know.
L.Lovely staff, James is a pro at doing pain free fillings but did a fantastic job on my crowns as well! They take their customer service so seriously that they even have bluetooth headphones for those slightly nervous people! When it wouldn't connect to my phone (as my phones a bit manky) he connected it to his laptop and found a good playlist for me. All this so I would be comfortable and block out as much of the drilling as possible. Also the dentist chair is more comfortable than a lounge chair, I was very impressed at the quality. Almost could have had a nice nap! 10/10!

A.Recently I had root canal and filling at Victoria St Dental. I've always avoided to go to dentist because the sound and sight of dental equipment always scare me. But at Victoria St Dental I felt comfortable throughout the treatment. During root canal procedure they gave me earphone and played relaxing music to distract from the noises made by the tools. James was very thorough in his explanation before & after procedure. And Jo was very attentive and friendly. Highly recommend this place

N.Well, whether they wanted one or not, I was always going to review Victoria Street Dental.
Several times I have been kept awake at night wondering what I can give them to express just how happy I am that I have found them. Or how relieved I am that they have a plan to deal with my teeth grinding. Do I gift them flowers? My first born child? My car? My house? None of these things seem to equivalate to the service they have provided me. I mean, it began with the first phone call.
“Hi, I am in serious pain i need help.”
“Ok can you be here in half an hour?”
“Umm yes!”
Once I got there I was taken aback by how slick and modern the place is. Big tick. Then I sat in the chair and they did all manner of tests and said
“oh we think you have xyz wrong with you, let me explain it to you by using a specialist program on my iPad and let me draw on said iPad as to how i believe we can help with your situation.”
Ummm fantastic!
Then it was, “how much will this cost?”
“Oh it will be $xxx.xx.”
“Umm that is half the price of what I have been quoted by two other dentists. So.....please lets book in a time to proceed.”
“Would you like it done now?”
“Ummm....what the hell is this? Are you guys Dental Angels? Am I dreaming right now? is this real life?”
So they went ahead and over the period of a few weeks I can say that what once was a very bad time in my mouth is now a good time in my mouth. Food can be eaten without the whince. Sleep can be had without the grind. Trust and reliability have been bestowed upon these two people and I hope they understand that they shall never be rid of me.
Do not bother looking anywhere else for all your dental needs. I would say trust me, but you do not know me. But I can say, trust in James and Jo. For they know dentistry and they care for not only their patients oral hygeine but for their patient's wallets as well. And soon you too will be right here where i am trying to figure out how to express your gratitude that there are people out there who still know how to provide a quality service at quality prices. Please never change guys.
