My first time in Palmerston North and it will be memorable with a great stay at Distinction Hotel. Comfy room with a good view of beautiful garden, ample AC outlets for charging and the like. Love the clean toilet and the bath tub. Parking was not an issue and the restaurant staff has a good sense of humour aside from good food.

Distinction Hotel is well situated and close as you can get to Palmerston North dining and evening entertainment. Being an inner-city venue means onsite parking is minimal, so be prepared to park on the street during busy periods. The entrance could do with a facelift, but internally everything is just fine. The room furnishings are in good order, the beds are comfortable, and everything feels clean, fresh and well maintained. Business travellers may run into a few annoyances. For example, rather than being wall-mounted, the television sits on the work desk, partially obscuring the mirror and making it difficult to use a laptop without moving things around. In addition, the lighting is appalling for reading or catching up on paperwork, with one tiny inset bulb being the main light and the desk lamp being more of a mood lamp. There are no USB charging points, which is disappointing for a business hotel; however, there are dual wall plugs on both sides of a king-sized bed if you are happy to pull out your wall chargers and crawl under the side tables to find them. The wifi service was good, allowing me to conduct Teams meetings and screen sharing sessions with no issue. There were only two hangers in my wardrobe. The restaurant has a roomy and pleasant feel about it and is more than suitable as an alternative to dining out. Note that dinner service starts at 5:30 pm, as staff will turn you away if you are even a few minutes too early. Mains prices range from $30 to $40. A cooked breakfast runs from 6:30 am to 9:30 am (room service not available) and is the usual selection of eggs, bacon, sausages, toast, cereal, juice etc. I found all the juices to taste excessively sweet, but the bakery bread loaves were great. The elevators are super-speedy, which is a small detail that I appreciate. A ground-level smoking area adjacent to the elevator lobby is safe and secured by carpark gates for those in your group who need that. I had an issue with my door not unlocking until staff advised me that the trick to opening a "stuck" lock is to lift the handle. I'm not sure that's the best way to deal with the problem, but at least they knew about it. The climate control is quiet(ish) and effective, although I did experience a "user error" that took staff less than 3 minutes to come to my room and resolve. Despite not being allowed to sit in the restaurant while waiting for dinner to "formally" start, all the staff have been super friendly and helpful.

From the outside you would wonder what you are going to find as it is very much in need of a paint and revamp. The inside was a surprise, nice and clean. It is very plain neutral paint tones and no artwork. We stayed in the tower block area, clean and comfortable bed, nice sized bathroom with shower over bath, good extractor fan so you could use the mirror after shower. Good size tv, Freeview channels only. Good secure parking. Easy check in check out, friendly staff. We didn't dine here so can't comment on food.

I stayed here mid-October for work and the room and service were fantastic. We had an event at the hotel itself and I needed towels washed afterward so was looking for a laundrette close by, the hotel staff washed, dried, and folded it for me....exceptional service all weekend. The staff were so kind and friendly, we were provided a cot for our little one and when we realised our aircon/heater wasn't working there was no hesitation from the manager to change our room. We were so grateful and would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and family. We really enjoyed our stay - Thank you!!

We enjoyed our one night at the Distinction though we did have trouble with our key card, however it was sorted out quickly. The room we had was very spacious and the bed was very comfortable. We were a little disappointed to find the old fridge hadn't been replaced. It was a small fridge which you normally find in hotels, however the door space was unable to be used as there was no bar along it. The bathroom had the Distinction toiletries which are lovely. We would happily recommend the Distinction in Palmerston North.

I wasn't expecting much due to bad experiences in Palmy, but this place was great! Lovely cosy room, small but great bathroom with monsoon shower head, vanity kits, sewing kits, everything. So many hotels have moved away from using products like this so I was stoked. Bed was great. Lights were dull but you adjust. Restaurant/ bar were all good. Would be awesome to have USB chargers in room. Ultimately very happy and will stay again

Lovely large room but heat pump and oil column heater in the room seemed to not be working. They had a Dolce Gusto coffee machine in the little tea and coffee cupboard but the machine was filthy. Sticky coffee all over the place, smelt terrible when we tried to make a coffee. Overall a nice tidy place aside from those two things. Huge bathroom and great spa bath. Buffet breakfast was ok but dinner at Nosh was really delicious with great service.

What a gem. The services were beyond my expectations. The bed is the best thing about the room. The lifts worked perfectly at all times. The staff was more than welcoming and was very eager to help. The hotel is located in not noisy area. The breakfast buffet was very nice.

Our room was on the first floor. I thought a superior room might of been a bit nicer. Rooms are quite dated, and ceiling fans were filthy. Wasn't a bad experience, staff were friendly and informative. Suited us as we came back late from a wedding just to sleep. I wouldn't stay there longer than one night personally but room was $130. Wouldn't suit a corp business person travelling who like modern rooms. The pictures on the website are a bit misleading but the room had everything we needed, just the aircon was VERY loud. You couldn't sleep with it on. Good secure parking with no issues or any door entries after hours. No extractor fan in the bathroom so it stayed very steamy and wet. Close to shopping, nightlife and city centre. limited car spaces but we never missed out.

I had a seminar here, so yes they have nice place for meeting, workshop, or party. My colleagues told me that this place is the best place to have our seminar(it was 11th). This place is quite antique but modernized as well. The bed is comfortable and room is tidy. All staff were very kind and friendly. The location is in the city near Messy uni. So good to access as well. I was quite satisfied.

I would definetly stay there again. Definitely worth the money we spent. The buffet breakfast was excellent on all the mornings. The hotel itself was very neat and clean. The hotel restaurants were very good. We were greeted with friendly warm smile everywhere we went. Employees went out of their way to accommodate us.

Stayed here for one night while out of town on business. Nice hotel with tidy facilities. It was reasonably quiet at night so I had no trouble getting to sleep. Plenty of off street parking, but only a single outlet for charging EVs.

The service we received from the moment we first walked in the doors was more than we expected. The buffet breakfast was one of the best, alot of love had gone into the preparation of the large choice of food, either a conteniental or cooked breakfast. The breakfast was just amazing. This was my favourite. Dinner was lovely as well. Thabk you to all the staff, chef's and all that made our stay an enjoyable one.

Nice hotel near the centre of Palmerston North. The location of the hotel is ideal and exciting. Public transportation is very close by. Our room has the most modern amenities. Special acknowledgement to the lovely lady at the front desk on the. Its the best value for what you are paying.

Nice hotel, stayed there before but never in the older rooms. Rooms we're ok, but the curtains we're not setup to block out the huge lights they had lighting the buildigs entrance. Which made it very difficult to get to sleep.

This was great place to stay. It was close to everything we wanted to do, go to Te Manawa, the Downtown Cinema and Bruce McKenzie Bookshop. BUT the highlight was the hotel restaurant Nosh. Really great food, beautifully presented and great gluten free options. Was really impressed. As Wellingtonians we are used to a good range and good menus. Nosh exceeded our expectations and really impressed us.

Very good and well worth a visit. Service was second to none and our waitress Georgina worked hard to wnsure we were well looked. The food quality is to Mitchelin standards and the best in the region. We will be going again and recomend you try a meal here.

Oldest hotel with no amenities like laundry or ice or water place everything need to order from bar underneath the hotel which is very expensive -No. of Car Parkings are less than rooms so need to park outside if hotel is busy which is hard for travellers to keep there stuff in car and PAID PARKING -customer service is Good -blankets are damaged and smelly clothes/towels -Room cupboard smell as it’s very old -not recommended with kids

Vintage yet modern. I loved the very old fashioned lift where you had to open two gates to get in and use it. Very comfortable and elegant but still retaining it's history.
