S.We took some time today as a family to spend some unrushed, quality time together after a few weeks of busy life and booked in with Makoura Lodge for some games and nibbles with an amazing backdrop and some.good country air. We were met with exceptional hospitality, lovely people that were very accommodating and our highlight was clay shooting with Ed Berry. He was very patient with our son, happily taught my daughter how to shoot her first firearm and applied with a great sense of humour to boot. Ed we could have spent a few more hours with you ☺️ Great value indeed. Makoura catered to our dietary needs and we will most certainly be back after getting the inside scoop on the River retreat .. a must to book for summer. THANKS TEAM ☺️ Highly recommended 🤠
M. D.Had a fantastic short break -mum and daughter time away. Stayed in Spa suite which was spacious, well equipped and warm. We had a lovely evening meal in front of open fire at Lodge. The setting is fantastic. I enjoyed the farm loop track and my daughter loved the Horses helping Humans session. All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Plan to return soon.

T. T.What a fabulous place to visit, stayed in the Burnside cottage with another couple, it was the perfect spot. Fabulous old art deco style cottage with everything you need. Well appointed with lovely linens, comfy beds and excellent lounge kitchen area. Having the option to go to the lodge restaurant for meals is a bonus, but the cottage is equipped for self catering. We did the clay bird shooting, which is just 1 of the many activities you can participate in here. This would be a perfect place for conferences, team building, and ideal for the many weddings they have here.

N.What an amazing day! If you are looking for a stunning wedding venue with excellent service and attention to detail, look no further. The team at Makoura Lodge made our wedding day a breeze and we definitely made things difficult. Full custom vegan menu and constant changes but they handled everything with a smile and enthusiasm. Well done guys, highly recommended!

R. H.I've visited Makoura Lodge many times over the years for events and getaways - it's the perfect spot to get some fresh air, have time out and relax. The riverside cabin is such a special spot and the team there are so kind and welcoming!
I've also done their horse treks - a wonderful way to see the countryside.

B. G.Venue is placed in a fantastic location which radiates spectacular views from all angles. From the entrance to the Lodge, the Lodge to the cabins, and even the cottages are simply.... Amazing. As soon as the sun rises to the moment it goes down there is an ambiance given, and just when you think "surely that must be it?", Guess what there is more hidden gems. The staff work tirelessly to ensure the guest is catered for from the moment you arrive til you say farewell.

A. W.We chose Makoura Lodge as our wedding venue for 90 guests, and it was awesome. Callum & the staff were super organised and friendly, our guests loved the setting, and we loved that we could host a weekend full of activities right onsite. 10/10 recommend.
S. E.I took a group of 9 cyclists to Makoura Lodge and was nothing less than impressed. Callum and the team have a superb location, exceptional facilities and warm, attentive hospitality.
They days and evening were chilly, but our cottages remained toasty with woodburners.
It was a treat to enjoy a roast lamb dinner with meat from the farm. Our vegetarians enjoyed fresh vege dumplings.

A. S.We were greeted by the manager Callum who was really lovely and helpful. Callum has extensive hospitality and management experience and really knows his stuff, along with the interesting history of the area and lodge. The countryside is just gorgeous with rolling hills, farms, animals, horses and river. Horse treks are also available. Group or couples options are all excellent! Kelly the chef made an enticing meal that was delicious, of fresh, local produce and some even from the lodge's garden. Highly recommend Makoura Lodge. Just fantastic from start to finish.

A. S.I'm a professional photographer and have shot at Makoura Lodge. Not only are the staff super accommodating and friendly but the venue itself is stunning. The views are incredible and there are so many amazing photo locations on site. Definitely would recommend Makoura Lodge if you're needing a wedding venue.

H.My husband and I got married at Makoura Lodge and spent the entire 3rd weekend in September out there with all of our closest friends and family, I can honestly say I don't understand why engaged couples would get married anywhere else. Makoura Lodge, Kimberley, Chris and their staff are second to none.
Kimberley not only dealt with but was 10 steps ahead of all of my late night emails with irrational requests and ideas (there were a lot), she brought out the wine when my photographers flight was cancelled the night before, she helped and prompted our stand in MC through the whole wedding day when our original was unable to attend unexpectedly.
Makoura staff helped us set up the reception area the night before (such a help!). Kimberley made getting around photos in the rain the most fun experience! Prawn platters and bubbly in the middle of a woolshed in Apiti was my idea of a perfect day - they really pay attention to the details! I could go on for hours.
The cabin by the river for our wedding night was a gorgeous little get away, so quiet and beautiful scenery to wake up to! Our family and friends loved staying at the cottages and cabins also, having the accommodation so close was such a treat!
Thank you all so much for playing an enormous part in making our wedding day the best day of our lives! We can't recommend you and your beautiful venue enough, we're already thinking of excuses to come back and stay!

K. W.Makoura Lodge is the ultimate spot for a getaway, I have stayed here for a romantic weekend including a horse trek and have also attended a couple of weddings. I think each stay gets better and better. The food is always delicious and the hosts are so very welcoming. Nothing is a problem. We can't wait to come back again.. hopefully for a conference next time.
B. J.Perfect getaway only a few hours from Wellington. I highly recommend it. Very nice and cosy setting, staff are great, especially Filipa (if that's how her name is spelt) you were the best! Great food as well. Loved it!

H.Best lodge I have ever been to. So good that me and my partner chose this as our wedding venue for 2020. Their amenities are amazing and the activities available are outstanding.

P.Fantastic lodge with a stunning surrounding area. They made me a delicious vegan meal without any fuss. The lodge is positioned on the edge of a steep gorge and this is beautiful in the morning when filled with mist. The bach accommodation is cosy. Would go again.

With both land and river section, the stunning track that we took during our horse trek blew out mind! It was easy enough for entry level riders but challenging enough to have a bit of fun. The horses were spot on and matched our personalities perfectly making this trek an unforgettable experience. There is not enough superlatives to describe how much fun we had during this afternoon with Kim, riding the great Tussock, Possum and Muddy. Days later we are still talking about it over every meal! What a day! Thanks again Kim!
