Great place to plan an event or stay awhile, rural location with river boundary.

Nice venue for gatherings of family and friends. Next to the river which has friendly eels that come to see you. Would recommend to anyone whom is planning to use as their one stop destination for family function. Supporting cabins and a camping area for all to enjoy. Very accomodating to guests.

Gene and Marianne are excellent hosts, everything is supplied and their attention to detail is fantastic. I have had the pleasure of seeing The Flaxes develop over the last few years and it's been a steady improvement to the point where it has become a real asset for groups to consider for a safe, quiet and comfortable getaway. Every time I leave I look forward to coming back. The kids love the massive rope swing and feeding the eels in the river, the parents love the cool evenings having a yarn around the brazier or relaxing on the couches. Definitely worth a look, stop by sometime and say hello.

Lovely peaceful retreat on the banks of the Shag River .....you can get a group together and have the whole place to yourselves,cabin accommodation available...kayaks, only 45 minutes drive from Dunedin ....
