The Woodhouse Mountain Lodge amenities and surroundings were just right for unwinding from the busy urban lifestyle. Walks on the mountain top with lawns on either side, surrounding mountains and peacocks and bunnies moving around in flocks was beautiful and the sounds made by peacocks were like music.
Joshua and team were caring for our comforts and the food was healthy and tasty; excellent customer service! The tennis court, the open pool, the spa, the sauna, the library and so on made our days highly stimulating for mind and body. We felt our stay was too short and would like to go there again.

Beautiful, peaceful location for a relaxing break. The lodges are well spaced for a private setting in the rolling hills. Comfortable and clean rooms and shared areas so you can fully relax.
For me this was a stretch of my budget as a treat, calling that out as it changes the expectations you set on a place. There were a couple of things that stopped this being 5* for me, nothing major but again around expectation setting on value: Bar space didn't really have any vibe to be a welcoming space to relax, felt a little like the staff couldn't cover all areas of the space well. No furniture around the pool to relax on, to read our book by the pool was lovely but we had to just perch on the deck, no outdoor chairs or loungers available. Dinner was absolutely delicious, but breakfast wasn't the same reflection, didn't quite hit the mark and found it strange to pay $6.50 for a long black with a breakfast included booking!
It is a wonderful place to relax with staff super friendly and willing to do what they could, just felt a few small details would have set it off to 5*.

Amazing service. Staff is so accommodating to your needs. The house chef made the most incredible food! Joshua was at our service whenever we needed him and so helpful! The best we have had in a long time. The villas were just perfect. We will definitely be back! Norling Law Team

Everything thing about our stay was out of this world. The service was incredible. The food was so delicious and tasty. The room was so large and luxurious. It was also really comfortable and private. I wish we could’ve stayed for a week :-) Can’t wait to go back

Stayed here for my honeymoon and could not have wished for anything better.
the staff were so welcoming and truly made us feel at home, any request was met with a smile and "our pleasure".
the food was incredible, the kitchen staff would be right at home in 5 star restaurant, every meal was carefully planned and excuted beautifully.
and saving the best for last the view from our villa was spectacular, straight out of a story book.
In love with this venue and will most definitely be back.

Our stay would have easily warranted 5 stars, had we not had the misfortune of experiencing breakfast. Our fantastic evening meal was enhanced by Ivy and Natalya's great service and the accommodation was more than adequate, but as we rose to greet the new day, the wheels began to fall off...
Arriving at breakfast, we were informed by the somewhat vacant waiter that the only coffee available was from a pod dispenser, not the barista coffee as advertised. Both myself, my partner and another kind guest were unable to figure the machine out. It also bamboozled the waiter but after experiencing his lack of expertise the previous night (he had no idea of the products behind the bar and was genuinely surprised to find it stocked with cider) this was unsurprising.
Our order was taken after around 15 minutes. 40 minutes later and still waiting i asked if the waitress could shed any light on its arrival. 'It's the chefs first day on his own' was the reply, so we gave him the benefit of the doubt. When my fried eggs on toast arrived, nearly 50 minutes after ordering, the toast resembled Gandhi's flip flop in its dryness and the eggs were hard. Not to mention that my partners poached eggs had been boiled to the consistency of flubber.
Extremely disappointing after such a promising start. Might I suggest that if fried eggs on toast be beyond the chefs capabilities, he consider a change in career.

Right from the moment we walked in the door, we were made to feel special and welcome. Joshua (the GM) addressed me by my first name, and did so every time we saw each other. It was so nice to be made to feel like a person, and not just a number. The property was peaceful and relaxing, and the wildlife (peacocks) were a real treat. The food was spectacular, so much so that we couldn't finish our meals as the portions were so generous. The Pork Bell entrée was one of the best dishes we've ever had. We will definitely return, and stay longer next time. Thank you Joshua and team for making us feel so welcome and looked after.

My husband and I were in a desperate search to find accommodation for our honeymoon after our original trip got canceled due to covid, we called the lodge and Joshua was so amazing, he gave excellent recommendations for package deals, was accommodating to our time frame as our stay started the night of our wedding, he made sure to note down my husband's allergy for the set menu. Honestly such an amazing host. Josh and the team at Woodhouse made our mini honeymoon so perfect we can not recommend them enough. Can not wait to come back when all the amazing facilities are open, definitely will need the same room in a years time 😂😊

What a BEAUTIFUL venue. So Classy and Warm. It looks elegant and feels relaxed. Jade, Fleur and the Chef are a great team. Service is 100% top notch and I highly recommend anyone to get married there. It was pretty wow xxx

We had a wonderful stay at the lodge. Breakfast and dinner was absolutely delicious! Compliments to the chef. The room was clean and very spacious. Beautiful scenery! Fleur was very friendly and ensured that we had a comfortable stay. Looking forward to our next stay :)

The stay was really comfortable in a quiet place. The landscapes are mesmerizing. I strongly recommend this place.

This place was incredible. What a hidden gem! We stumbled across Kourawhero searching the area on google maps as they hadn't come up on some of our original searches. This is 100 acres of gorgeous grounds with private, high end, luxury cottages. There are peacocks roaming and wildlife around. It felt like we were in a Disney movie. The food is absolutely spectacular and the service is superb. I read some of the previous reviews that felt frustrated by the drive out to the lodge. Firstly, it's about 15 minutes on a backroad but it's not a rough or bumpy road. It's actually a lovely little drive. If you're looking for a stopover, next to the motorway motel, than this may not be the place for you, but it is perfectly located to enjoy Matakana and some of the local beaches. This was our anniversary location. It's a getaway. It would be perfect for a work conference. It's a perfect romantic weekend location. It truly is an undiscovered gem which I can't imagine will stay that way for long. We'd love to keep it to ourselves but the lodge is so gorgeous and the staff is doing such a wonderful job we know word will be out soon!

Wow ! Such an amazing hidden gem ! Does have a gravel road in but nothing most kiwis haven’t driven on a hundred times ! The food is incredible, the service is top notch . The decor is gorgeous in the lodge . The rooms are so comfy and the gas fire so cozy . Will be back for sure !

Spent 3 days here for a work retreat. Food was sublime - absolute compliments to the chef! My personal lodge was devine, with a luxuriously cloud-like bed , a deep spa bath, a roaring fireplace and patio to enjoy the early sunrise with my morning coffee. The owners were so accommodating and warm and made us feel like kings and queens. If you are looking for that quick escape from the hustle and bustle of Auckland city this place is well worth the visit.

This place is heaven. Couldn't recommend it more. The lodge's are perfect, the views have to be seen to be believed. The food is amazing (I had dinner and breakfast and both were exceptional) and the staff cannot do enough for you. I had a great massage in the spa too.
The road to the lodge is gravel, but totally accessible in a normal car. The gas fire in the lodge made it so warm and comfortable and the bifold windows by the spa bath were so great - you can sit in a hot bubbling bath with fresh air coming in and enjoying the view.
My husband got me this night away as a birthday present for some relaxation so I chose to come alone and I didn't feel at all awkward about eating in the restaurant and everyone made me feel welcome and well looked after. I've stayed in a lot of high-end places worldwide and this is up there with the very best.

What a lovely weekend away. Hidden away among the green garden grounds we felt miles away from everything, but in fact it's minutes to Warkworth. The breakfast was amazing and the dinner was delicious. Do make sure you include these in your visit. Thank you to the team. You are friendly and welcoming. Nothing was a problem and you always had smiles on your faces. Be warned we are planning to visit again.

We dined here recently at the Lodge's restaurant. It was an absolutely fantastic experience and all of the food far exceeded expectations. The chef mixes flavours and textures wonderfully and I would not hesitate to return.

Kourawhero is a hidden getaway gem less than 1 hour from Auckland City. I booked this place for my wife and mother-in-law and they were blown away and had a fantastic and relaxing time. The built-in spa bath and fireplace within the rooms was a highlight during Autumn/Winter seasons. The package included massage spa/dinner which was highly regarded as well. Definitely will be back!
E.
Could not recommend this place more. We stayed one night and were treated like king and queens and will be a night we will never forget. Fleur is amazing, great grounds, sauna and pool! We did the 5 course dinner and couldn't recommend it enough

Kourawhero Estate is certainly remote, about 45-60 minutes from Auckland it's located in the bush and feels like a world away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The 20 minute drive down a gravel road certainly cements that you're far away from the rat race!
There's certainly a lot to love. The views are spectacular, the hosts are friendly and accommodating and each villa (they are set up in pairs with an adjoining wall) are far apart so lots of privacy. If you're looking to escape and get away from the day to day grind this is the place to be.
However, with all of that being said there's some room for improvement. First of all, and most noticeably the villas need a decent clean. Upon arrival I pulled my curtains so I could get changed and several dead bugs fell onto the carpet. A pretty bad first impression. Looking up there were a lot of cobwebs so the rooms really need a decent clean. I was travelling alone but my wife has a fear of spiders so thankfully she wasn't with me or we'd be packing up and be right out the door.
Secondly, and somewhat weirdly the screens on the bathrooms windows do not pull all the way down. They leave about a foot exposed for the world to see in. Factoring the window is right next to the bath this is somewhat unnerving. I thought it was a fault on my villa alone but speaking to others they had the same issue. A little bit odd!
Finally, WiFi is only accessible in the main lodge and not in the villas themselves. This is a little bit frustrating as if one needs to work they have to go back into the main room, despite there being a desk in the room itself. Just a minor detail that would really improve the experience.
Other things to consider (but somewhat out of the properties control) is there are no restaurants nearby at all so if you want to eat offsite expect a 30 minute drive down mostly gravel roads. Food on site was good but it's always nice to explore. Also no minibar or television so bring food and entertainment!
All in all the venue is lovely, just room for improvement in order to be a world class estate.

I stayed at Kourawhero back in February, hosting some US influencers and media on an international famil for a beauty brand.
Such a divine spot - the staff were so helpful and accommodating (despite us being a bit flustered at times!!). I can’t wait to come back and enjoy myself when it’s not work.
The degustation meal we had was beyond beautiful

Stayed over the long weekend, and had a wonderful time here. The breakfasts were amazing, Fleur was so friendly and made some awesome recommendations on what to do or where to eat around the area. Loved how peaceful it was, and had some really good dining experiences around Matakana. Definitely hope to be back again!

Amazing place to stay, away from the noise of town. Private cabins in the Bush with amazing views, great hot tub and a very comfy bed. Best relaxation place I've been too in new Zealand. I will definately be back

Amazing place to stay with beautiful lodges and really fine views. Bit of a trek - but worth it as far as we are concerned. Sitting out in the evening looking out over the wonderful News Zealand scenery was magical.

Accommodation you can enjoy for weeks, space for living and working at a desk, in addition to comfortable excellent sleeping. With shower and bath facilities you will never want to leave! Nice people, lovely landscape, and just far enough off the beaten path, still close enough to pop out to a local restaurant for dinner. Granted it is not backpacker pricing, but you get what you pay for, and I'd judge this good value.

It's a long way up a metal road with no shops nearby. But the views are fantastic and the rooms are very nice. Service was a little slow but very friendly.

Visited for a friend's wedding. Lovely location. Would be nice if they're was better lighting and signage as we got a little lost on the way out
