We went as a family, 3 children (10 - 16yrs) and myself. What a great time we had!! The puzzles were clever. Some coming easily and others requiring more work. Everyone in our group solved at least one of the puzzles and we made it out before time ran out. We would absolutely do it again.

Highly recommend! I booked in for a very large group (19 people) and staff were super helpful at making sure we all had an excellent time across 2 rooms. We did the Spaceship and Temple rooms as they're both at the Johnston Street office and everyone had so much fun. The staff were really lovely and the rooms were very detailed with cool puzzles. Everyone said that it was by far the best escape room they had done so bravo Escape Mate! We'll be coming back to do Atlantis very soon :)

Myself and a group of eight others did the Spaceship room today. I really enjoyed it. Friendly and forgiving staff (we needed a bit of guidance through out the experience). Highly recommend this as a fun group outing.

Super fun! There are two rooms you can try to escape from - we did the mad scientist one. Definitely requires teamwork to do - I would say a good group size is 5-8.

What an awesome experience for my teen kids and myself. Granted, one of them was slightly grumpy, but cheered up as the experience progressed. We did the Temple Room - and it was massively fun! Puzzles were very interesting and challenging. I must give credit to the team who created and developed the whole thing - a lot of attention has gone into the details and its fantastic. Much kudos! The staff were so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend this experience as a family outing! Great for creating those precious memories! :)

Cannot recommend these guys enough. Have done all 3 rooms they have available at the moment and all were fantastic. The design of the rooms are so good it's like you're put into your own little Nickelodeon game show. And a shout out to the staff who are incredibly friendly and are able to nudge you in the right direction, just enough so you're not wasting time. A+ team thanks so much ❤️

This was such an awesome experience. I highly recommend trying it. My husband did it with me begrudgingly but also really loved it and is planning to fill another room with mates. The host was epic and so friendly. Please check it out if you can, bonus ups for us the bar next door does some awesome cocktails and food and staff also recommended this escape room.

We did all three rooms yesterday and they ALL were just absolutely AMAZING. Stunning decor, wonderful and well thought out puzzles and the staff agents were extremely engaging STAR power perfection. Everyone should make this one of your first choices of things to do in Wellington. Thanks to Michaela, Sam and Dave they brought the rooms to life. We also were lucky enough to get out of all three rooms in time to save the world. Yeah team. We will definitely be back

Perfect team building experience! This was epic! Our work team of 11 needed a day out and the Atlantis Escape Room was just the ticket! Dave brought fun and humour to the experience and was fantastic at guiding us through the challenge, without giving too much away. I've done a couple escape rooms before and this was really something, a cool story line, challenging puzzles and a really good variety- love the non-linear format too. Highly Recommend! Me and my co-workers did the 'Atlantis' room and it was SO MUCH FUN!! David (from Escape Mate) was amazing, he really hyped us up and reassured us that we were on the right track. Tried the Temple one on Sunday; we were a team of four with limited escape room experience but we thoroughly enjoyed the challenge! Our host was hilarious and set the mood for us as we went in and the puzzles were really fun to crack and solve. The rules were made crystal clear to us and we only needed a few minor hints to keep us on the right track. Overall we absolutely loved it and we would love to go back and try the other rooms some time! Cheers Escape Mate! 👍

Great place for a very wholesome family activity. Highly recommend. Friendly staff and humorous storyline. We did The Spaceship and it was fun how we had 3 minutes left to solve the final puzzle! We got through in the nick of time! Might do the other rooms - The Temple and The Atlantis - with fam bam again. :D

Great experience and I would highly recommend! I've never visited an escape room before, so I was not sure what to expect. The rooms are fantastic. Really enjoyed the puzzles and we had a great time. I had a special request for the team, and they were very accommodating and helped me out a lot! A night to remember for sure!

Absolutely the best time I've had in my life. The Spaceship was incredible. Such a sense of satisfaction and sheer FUN working through the puzzles with my friends. More than enough to do so we each got a chance to shine, while still working together. And wow, yeah, ingenious puzzles! Great staff who gave us the perfect amount of prompting when we got totally stuck. And SNACKS in reception! I only wish I could do it again without knowing the answers. It really got you thinking and the puzzles u had to solve were way better than other escape places we had done... would love to do it again next time in Wellington and also do the spaceship one. Everyone was very impressed with the attention to detail, both in the scenery design as well as the functionality of the contraptions and clues. It's great that we could all work on different clues/puzzles at once, instead of having to crack them in sequence one by one. Good mixture of levels of difficulty and lots of puzzles to solve and we could tell a lot of thought had been put into the puzzles. Great work by the designers. The staff were awesome and seemed to love their job.

Fantastic! Really enjoyed being locked in a room with my hubby for his birthday and figuring out all the codes and puzzles. Such a friendly, happy vibe when you walked in that you just knew you were going to enjoy yourself. Thank you to the wonderful staff at Escape Mate from the quick replies to emails. This was one of the funnest experiences in Wellington, with just one other person I had a great time figuring out an amazing puzzle made by these creative individuals. They also have another one for 5+ players. The puzzle I experienced was a jungle themed and the staff were so enthusiastic and energetic about there work it's just contagious to get excited about the fun you're about to have. Highly recommend, bring some friends along and go have a good time.

It was a team building exercise for a small group of business colleagues from Nelson and we found it challenging and so much fun thinking outside the box. Our family of four (parents, master 12 & miss 10) spent a fun 55 minutes escaping the temple. We're relatively new to the escape room craze with this our third go as a family and found this one super fun. Lots of different puzzles with things opening in unexpected places, and the snacks provided were an awesome bonus! We'll be back to tackle the spaceship after we've enlisted a few more brains. Very fun activity for a group of friends or work team building. Guys at Escape Mate were also great at setting the scene and ensuring that we were well prepared for the puzzles that we were about to face. Lollies, cookies and other refreshments were also a nice touch.

Never been to an escape room before but this place was pretty awesome. And we made it just in the nick of time (even if we did need a bit of help). Cool place to go with friends or with workmates and a good place to spend a rainy day. One hiccup with the entire process that kinda threw the vibe at the beginning but overall I'd definitely recommend to a friend

What great fun. This place is well set up and the games are very detailed. It is certainly no walk In the park. Working together is a must otherwise everyone ends up going over the same clues! Very helpful staff and they are great at getting you into the right mindset of having a bit of fun.

Loved this!! Did the alchemist room with friends for a surprise birthday activity and it didn’t disappoint. Our host Alivia was great, absolutely in character start to finish, super helpful, friendly and giving just the right amount of “help” if we got stuck. Allowing us to crack the codes ourselves and feel the sense of accomplishment when the door opened and we escaped. There were lots of interactive parts rather than just your standard locks and codes, a few different rooms within the escape room and some really imaginative ideas that made this my definite favourite escape room I’ve done so far. Thanks so much, we will definitely be back to complete the other one.

Went with a group of friends (5 total), extremely creative, impressive technology, well connected riddles. I went through numerous escape rooms and this is definitely the top for me. Outgoing and motivated staff. Definitely a place to visit when in Wellington!

Staff were great and treated us very well. The space escape room was loads of fun, but the room lacked linearity; you basically go off and do seperate tasks alone or in small groups and come together randomly whenever someone can connect two puzzles. The game ended up being more fun for some than others depending on which puzzle you suddenly participate in, and if you lose track of what has been done you quickly begin to wander and feel useless as you have no idea what everyone else is doing. Perhaps an improvement would be to bring everyone together at multiple checkpoints throughout the hour rather than just throwing all of the final puzzle pieces at us at once near the end.

Came here for a friend's birthday party. Love the decoration and ambience, good variety of different kinds of puzzles. Particularly enjoyed the more physical-touchy kind. Would definitely recommend as a fun group activity, probably would work well for company groups as well!

We did the Alchemist Room, and it was ideal for a large group as there were multiple puzzles of different complexities that the group could split up and work on, and come together when we had a gateway puzzle that had to be solved before we could proceed further with the others. Our host, Olivia, was fantastic in welcoming us and setting up the scene to make for a very fun evening at Escape Mate.

I played escape games for a first time with group of 5. We started with introduction, staff was very nice and helpful during all game. When we struggled they were there to help us. Some puzzle are easier some harder and they will play with your brain and personality but if you listening staff and playing with your team you should get through. Temple is easier than spaceship so if you are playing for the first time I would recommend you start with Temple and then move to Spaceship both worth to try . This was amazing experience with lot of fun. Special thanks to Izabella. :)

We've done a lot of escape rooms, across a significant number of hemispheres, and this was one of the better ones we've done. Well-themed, and the puzzles flowed from the answers in a way that told a story. Not just a collection of padlocks in a closet. And what a great venue for it!

What an awesome and unique experience. I was pretty sceptical going in, as the place doesn't look like much from the outside, but once we were in the room and solving puzzles, it was a blast. I only realise after the fact, how much effort has gone into setting up the puzzles and ensuring they all come together for the group within the room. Look forward to seeing the next version.

I went with a group of 9 for my birthday. Guest's who arrived early were treated to snacks and drinks while they waited. Once gathered we were introduced to the story behind our chosen Escape Room and it's characters by our host. After the briefing we went in to the Alchemist themed escape room. I won't give away anything but we had a great time in the room and successfully escaped! The puzzles and games within were suitably elaborate and challenging. When we got stuck the Escape Mate team provided nudges in the right direction without fully revealing secrets. Can't wait to visit again!

Went there on a Wednesday, did the Temple room with 5 players. The two people running the place were great. Very likeable, even though we could have done a lot better at the thing. We got to eat cookies and lollies beforehand which was a nice touch. The briefing before the event went full ham on the "YOU ARE SECRET AGENTS" thing, which was hilarious. You can't approach that kind of thing seriously, but the humour was very self-aware, and we found ourselves despite this actually getting pretty pumped for the room by the end of it. 5/5 will go back. Temple down, Next: SPACESHIP!

Went for friends bday as massive group and were split into two different griups/vaults/rooms. Was great teamwork to figure out puzzles and mystery. Fun hosts paired with an interesting idea in old bank vaults made it quite an unforgettable experience. I definitely reccomend it especially if you are going with people who don't know one another well as you have to work as a team. Such fun!
