Z.Unfortunately, the place does not really hold up when compared to the European opera houses and theatres. From the outside, the house looks like an apartment building.
For some reason, they don't use their stalls.
The staff are nice. Bar selection very poor.

A.Have seen a number of shows at the Opera House and I'm a big fan of it.
The acoustics are excellent and the view is always great no matter where you sit.
Would highly recommend seeing the ballet whenever it comes on as the shows are out of this world.
E.We really enjoyed the Ballet. The special effects in Firefly were spectacular. The dancers in both the performances were impressive. Highly recommend.
B.Watched J Strauss II's Die Fledermaus here - great show, great venue. Can take a beer or wine from the onsite bar into the show. Student tickets often available at reduced rates.
S.We got fairly good seats, but I could see that there would've been some that had restricted views. Seats are comfy, although close together, Not horrendous. People could get past you without thinking like you had their bum in your face. Staff are pleasant and helpful.
M.Went to Jersey Boys on Tuesday 25th May ( my wife's 70th birthday.) Beautiful venue...brilliant show....superb seats & view. Bar service great... helpful staff. Thank you for a memorable night...Don Kennett.
L.Excellent, classic old world elegance and style. Royal NZ Ballet performance of The Firebird was stunning from start to finish and never lagged.
Only problem is caused by the Wellington City Council and their idiotic plan to progressively eliminate cars and parking. In a city like Wellington taxi cost adds tens of dollars to the cost of going out. Busses? What busses?
E.Shabby-genteel venue with legendary status and still going strong. She's a great hall for almost anything.

H.A grand building thankfully preserved for all to enjoy. The intermission was a traffic nightmare of people but good planning will certainly make sure that you get through this tight squeeze of queuing up.
C.We were in the Gods, the seat was adequate until the time to stand up came. Well worth it. Just about a sellout by my reckoning. Fantastic show, great to see such a large kiwi component in the show

R.This once wonderful venue is looking tired and tatty and needs to be refreshed. It's live musical offerings (Jazz and Blues etc ) however remain first class.

D.The Opera House is a good venue as long as you can avoid sitting too close to a pillar. Unfortunately the usual issue of queuing for the w.c.
M.West Side Story was terrific with marvelous dancing, singing and the scenery was most evocative & clever. Theatre was comfortable but more than one toilet on the entrance floor needs reviewing if possible. Otherwise good.
J.Still a fantastic place to experience live shows.
O.Handled lighting at a performance here. Great staff, and a venue that truly makes one feel like they're on Broadway. There are so many lights that do so many things, and so many levels, and it's really a great stage. My biggest issue perhaps is with the amount of structural poles that block the view of the stage to some seats.
R.A Historic Place. The floors are creaky in the loft and the chairs are in a steep incline to give the audience a good view of the stage. Good sound coming from the stage-I have watched a few shows here and the sound is audible, just right.
C.Great ambience. In a fabulous theatre. Sadly not enough room to sit down having drinks prior. Also no details as to when the actual show started. So we arrived too early. Loved the show though. Catherine Tate was worth waiting for.!
L.The place is lovely. Its a bit like you've been transported back in time with the style of the architecture. Would love to see a symphonic orchestra performance here one day. They also serve drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Though I'm not sure if this before every show or only select ones.
H.Went to see West Side Story (which was amazing but beside the point for this review).
The Opera House is a beautiful venue with a great feel to it. Ornately decorated to make you feel like you've really gone out! Lovely sound, relatively comfortable seats, and well set up with an orchestra pit and large stage.
The only real issue is the antiquated and poorly understood ticket/entry process.
I was told I could use the tickets on my phone to get in, got to my entrance and was told they need to be printed, so down to the box office to get them printed and then back up with two pieces of printed cardboard to thrown away in an couple of hours.
Stupid process since they are just scanning a barcode...
Fix that and the venue would get 5 stars :)
f.The show was fantastic but the place was soooo hot as we were experiencing a heatwave. They were wonderful offering patrons water if needed and help if becoming overcome by heat. The seats are too tightly packed together and uncomfortable for us larger ladies.
N.Take yourself back in time and enjoy the show.
S.Went to see Chicago the musical which by the way was great. The venue is a bit old and hated that the toilets were upstairs. The foyer is small and very crowded. The bar is very limited and therefore lacks any ambience.
G.Beautiful old building, but I missed a cloakroom. The seats are narrow ànd spending 3 hrs with a coat and bag on your lap takes away from the enjoyment of the performance! The foyer could do with a little TLC as well.
M.The Opera House is a wonderfully central location and it had a rich history. I do feel slightly unsafe there. I shouldn't like to have to cope with either a fire or an earthquake during a show.
N.A grand old lady! So beautiful, so much of the original design and architecture and such an amazing experience! A jewel in the Wellington crown, give her a try, you won't be sorry!
K.Lovely theatre... great show (No such thing as Fish. Sorry if you missed it). Very slow exiting at the end. Glad there wasn't an earthquake! Too few loos for women as always at such venues.

R.Actually there to see the magical Gin Wigmore, what a voice. The venue is an old feel 1920s type theater. Well set out to give excellent acoustics across the whole venue. Unfortunate that the small area in front of it is where people seem to congregate for drink and drugs. Not great for tourists but they do not look as if they have elsewhere to go and live and let live is my thinking.
R.Lovely old building with excellent facilities. The concert we attended was a lot of fun, and I felt like everyone else had a great time as well which made it a great experience. Friendly and helpful staff as well.

G.A grand old girl of an opera house. It's not as fancy at the St James, but it's still a good venue with accessible shows. A wide variety of events happen here, and this solid and reliable venue handles them all very well.
C.Intimate setting, we were towards the back of the upper circle but could still make out facial expressions. Very warm in summer, water was available and the regular visitors carried fans.

D.Liked the old style building. But up in the dress circle it was very uncomfortably hot and stuffy. Could not wait for the interval. I asked my husband how he was going. He's an asthmatic and even though he'd taken his medication he was having trouble breathing. I said we didn't have to stay for the 2nd half so left! This was on a cool night watching Chicago. Waste of tickets, waste of hotel accommodation and kennel accommodation for our dogs. Surely something should be done to improve air flow. Maybe airconditoning? Not good enough for a Capital City. Sounds like St James is the same. After living in Sydney for many years and seeing many shows at many venues never has this happened. We have never walked out in the middle of a show. Such a huge disappointment.
T.Boutique venue and seating and views are great, but too warm in there.
J.Great setting and acoustic. Poor range of drinks available at the bar. Only RTD was Lemon and Yuzu and nothing else only beer or wine.
B.Great time attending Peter Pan Goes Wrong in a wonderful old theatre. Facilities are very good and staff excellent. Had a nice glass of red wine from the bar too.

A.First time here. Came to watch the Catherine Tate show which was awesome. The venue itself was functional and easy to navigate. Drinks were expensive but I suppose that is to be expected. Friendly staff

G.When booking my seat it appeared that I would have an unobtructured view of the stage. This was not the case. Very disappointing. Would not trust this web site for feature bookings.
However the show was great. 5 stars.

M.Saw Sarah Millican there this week. The temperature inside was almost unbarable for us. Severally people around us were really struggling. I know it's been warm this week but to not have any means to cool the place down was poor.

S.Awesome venue - took the kids to see a kids live show and they loved it. Staff took great care of us and were very helpful in showing us to our seats and where the toilets were.
E.It's a nice venue, but one set of toilets on the top floor? Having to fight through everyone just to get to the loo before the show is pretty annoying.
G.This venue is a little small but it's very warm and the atmosphere is amazing. I recommend going to an event there (or hosting your own) purely for the architecture and decor.

I.Went to see Joe Lycett, he was great. The venue was let down by poor signage as to how to get to the area you were seated then again being directed to the wrong seats twice
h.Amazing place to perform and the space has loads of good seating options. However if you are too far to either side part of the stage is blocked.
e.Went to see “ The Magicians” today, great show, beautiful theatre, make sure you are on time.Row A seats 21&22 right in the middle first floor, great seats worth the $99.00 each.

P.Superb venue. Wish staff would check tickets properly though and save people the embarrassment of sitting in the wrong area by mistake. Done it myself and seen lots of others do it too.
R.Beautiful venue. Great staff. Be sure to use washroom before theshow because there aren't that many so there will be queues during intermission and afterwards.

A.A great venue. Seating can be a little hit and miss in terms of visibility, but wonderful atmosphere and friendly ushers.
B.It's not as pretty as it used to be. Interior decaying from lack of funding but the beauty of the old decorations still peek through the dust. A good venue for the thoughtful aficionado of entertainment.
C.Great venue, but limited view if you're on the outside seating, so best to stay at least 4 seats in from the outside.

S.Obviously the Opera House used to be amazing. It's also obvious that it is about 30 years over due for a major renovation. It's still a good venue.

B.Great old theater in central Wellington with lots of character. Probably in need of a paint job but a great venue nevertheless.
