N.Bobby's is usually where we go to for our monthly fix because they've got that view and yum fish'n'chips. Last few times though I find them a bit hit and miss. We've had over-cooked fish or it hasn't been drained long enough and is soaked in grease. Also so much salt. Think I'll get takeaways elsewhere and take them to somewhere with a view.

K.Delicious food although customer service could do with some training (very blunt and a few swear words while taking our order whilst letting us know that they didn't have a lot of items on the menu available).
We weren't sure whether to order or stand in line as the line was all over the place so this system could also be more efficient which would see a better flow in and out of the doors.
Overall, food a plus but customer service and ordering was a challenge. This place has huge potential. Would recommend nonetheless.
D.Fish is very good, perfectly battered and fried. The chips weren’t as good, but still worth eating. Cool atmosphere as it is a fish market right on the water. Pricing is really reasonable. Took about 15 minutes for our fish n chips, so a bit longer of a wait. Overall, a great spot in Tauranga waterfront.

P.The only place to get fish n chips anywhere in NZ. I was weekend regular from Te Aroha from about 2005-6 until moving to Australia in dec 2008. Last three times ive been back its straight off the plane and off to Bobbys. I quite happily drop a few hundy here easy! Hands down the best in the world!

The fish is super fresh and locals love it! (they're usually sold out at around lunch time, so better come get yours before 12 or you'll miss out)
Staff is friendly and helpful, especially with bigger orders like the ones we do for work.

T.Bobby's Fresh Fish Market is a to go place if you are in Tauranga or New Zealand nearby town! It has the best fish and chips that I ever tried! The fish's batter is delicious and the seafood is fresh as it was caught daily from the sea. They are also famous for their mussel, seafood kebab and potato fritters. The food is a little fat and oily thou. The queue could be long during peak hour.

W.Visited few times. Ordering is fast but do expect a queue lining up. Fish tastes good because it's really fresh but fried batter coating the fish can be slightly soggy and oily sometimes. Nonetheless, overall it tastes really good and fries portion is big too. Sometimes they do serve mussel fritter but it just taste so-so.

Update: We returned recently to buy fish (and discovered that aside from the fish and chips, it's a great place to buy excellent fresh fish) and found that getting there before 11am makes a huge difference--there was no line at all.
Outside they'd set up a cart where they sell mussel fritters (they're served on a slice of bread, but I thought the fritter was better by itself). We returned on a weekday morning (around 10:50am) for fish and chips, no line, and not a long wait. They were excellent. Note: not sure when exactly the fritters are available.

J.This is always top of my list when I'm in tauranga. The seafood was cooked to perfection, and the batter was light, beautifully soft underneath and crispy on the outside. We love sitting on the wharf and enjoying the complete experience.
N.Great fish and chips! Crispy batter on the fish - although I have had thicker pieces. The pineapple rings were fantastic! And the vegetarian spring roll was a decent size and very filling. Chips cooked to perfection - every single one was golden with a perfect crunch. We cam in on a Wednesday night and it was packed, lines out the door, and our order took a long time (as did everyone else's) and they had stopped taking new orders by 7pm. If this is a Wednesday I would hate to think what a Friday or Saturday is like! It would be great if there could be more staff on, or an expansion of the kitchen as it seemed there just weren't enough deep fryers!

T.Probably the best Fish & Chips in NZ, but we had to wait 1 hour to get our food (seriously, just for fish n chips!), and it was not even really crowded. The young lady cooking seemed bored and just did everything VERY slowly. Next time we'll think twice if we have the time coming here.

We chose our fish right, for 27 dollars we received the biggest freshest fish I've ever had and a huge scoop of chips. Excellent meal :) highly recommend.

A.A bit of a wait but that’s just an indicator of how popular Bobby’s is. Over the years they’ve earned a reputation for some of the best fish and chips in town (fresh, beautifully cooked and generous). As for location you couldn’t ask for better than at a picnic table or patch of grass at the water’s edge. I give them 10oit of 10 plus.

B.They don't have wait staff here. The customers do all the waiting! We waited well over an hour yesterday afternoon for our order. Also don't go if you have problems with eating fat. All their food is fried in beef lard, which strangely appeals greatly to some of the reviewers here; not us unfortunately, we are both still suffering today. Lastly in the negative column, they don't take credit cards. Be warned! Now the positives. It's a great location, right on the waterfront, Funky "rock n roll" furniture. No fine dining here. Just squeeze in with others, everybody else does. The fish is uber fresh and the portions big. Our 1 scoop of chips would have been sufficient for any local First XV and they were good. And you can also buy really fresh uncooked fish there, which is what we will be doing in future. Oh, if only it wasn't for that Beef Lard!

Queue is pretty long and it would take a while to order and get the food. Don't join the wrong line since there are two lines, one is to order and the other is to collect the food. The fish and chips are cooked in beef fat so not very suitable for who does not eat beef. Although there is no noticeable beef smell and taste, be prepared if you are sensitive to beef. In spite of the fact that I am not a beef eater, I still love the fish and chips from Bobby. Fish and oysters are super fresh and yummy. This is must-visit place in Tauranga. Highly recommended.

P.Very rustic place - not a fancy eating house. And they don't accept credit cards, which is a bummer for a non-Kiwi loafer like me.
But having said that, they deliver on what they promise! Their fish and prawn are really good. The batter is fresh. The quality of the fish is nice and succulent. And the taste is fresh and clean and good, with no frills. The batter is oily - but then, that's how it is meant to be,, I guess. And everything is fried in beef fat.
The pricing is in line with the kind of place that it is - and that helps.
They make stuff fresh on order, and so there is a hit of waiting time, which to me is fine.
Seating is in on park bench type of open benches out in the front - 5 of which are in the shade, and the rest are out in the open.
To me, it would've been rated a full 5 if they accepted credit cards (which even booths in a fun fair in a school accepts in Kiwi-land), and if they put at least a few garden umbrellas for the benches (it is VERY hot to eat sitting in the sun, as I experienced today). Stuff which is easy to do, and doesn't cost next to anything additional..
For the quality of food, I recommend.

A.It’s a fantastic dinner at this shop! We ordered Fish and Chips, with Add-on Oysters and Sea Urchin. Awesome! Sea Urchin was really fresh and nice. And so the Oysters were!
One thing to be concerned is, it’s a little bit too oily. But so far, it’s awesome !

D.All locals will agree that this is easily the best fish and chips in Tauranga.
But if some complain about wait times it's because we have to stand inside to find out where you are up to. This can be lengthy when you are busy. So why not install a small display, at least showing towards the outside dining area but preferably one inside as well, simply showing the latest number ready to collect. Most would then happily wait at their table rather than having to stand in line inside, and that problem would just go away.
But good on management for responding to these customer comments. Your care about us shows in your overall service and superb product.

This place has been open for years, and it sort of looks like it has as it is a little dated.
It can also get very busy and the last time I went, I must have stood waiting for maybe 45 minutes after placing my order. I would like to see the them having a way of texting/notifying you that your order is ready, so that you do not have to stand around at the counter listening for your number being called out. I think that this might not be an issue if they are not busy.
They also sell fresh fish that has come straight off the boat.
Scallops, fresh kinna - for those of you who can eat the stuff.

They use beef fat in their deep frier which makes the best, crispy chips and batter. They also have buttered bread and lemons. They don't scimp on the quantities either. We ordered 4 snapper and one scoop of fish. We received 6 large pieces of snappper and more chips than we could possibly eat for $25
