Was there just as opening waiting for pump to start up. Woman on was so nice and helpful. Looked at seeds and around store while waiting.
Great place with old school NZ feeling.
Will add it to my list for next time driving that road. Be back for Gass an iceblock and drinks
E. D.
A nice warm cafe to visit. Ok service, and it is clean. The meat pie here is damn good. Meat was smooth with a good crunch from the pasty. I think this is one of the best pies I’ve ever had. I’ve had a lot of pies.
Also there may be 3 Kea’s waiting to steal your food. Beware, they will jump on your arm and eat your chips if you’re outside. Very entertaining. But don’t let them stay on your car for too long, they will rip it up.
G. L.
It's a lovely stopover with hot pies, sandwiches, dessert slices and the usual coffee/hot chocolate. They open 8am to 5pm, but stop dining-in 430pm onwards, allowing only takeaway cups. There's also a hot kitchen operating between 11am to 2pm, cooking burgers and chips. There is a large dining in area, and an al fresco sheltered outdoors. Chances of seeing the "resident" Kea birds are high! Rmemeber not to feed them! =)
They also have a liquor bottle section, souvenirs/warm clothing sections, lots of snacks and sweets, and essentials such as dried food supplies, sauces, toothpaste, batteries etc.
P. S. S.
Good for food, coffee and friendly service. Enjoy a quick snack or a hearty meal – delicious range of freshly prepared food includes hot or cold food ready to go. Spacious and there are charging points so you acn charge phones and all. ATM is also there. Good place to take break during journey.
S. T.
Pretty good food. Choices were a bit lacking for vegetarians though. Petrol station was missing higher octane fuel options, which our car needs as a minimum of 95 or higher.
#. B.
Cannot recommend enough. An absolute stunning drive with a lot of memorable sights along the way. Arthur's pass really captures the essence of New Zealand. Definitely make the time to pass through Arthur's pass. You won't regret it.
c. G.
Breakfast, lunch menus are available, Pie🥧, coffee☕, snack🍪, Icecream🍦burgar 🍔 as well. I recommend you people to have a scoop icecream it's really big one scoop.
C. C.
Nice warm place to take a break. Soup was fantastic! The pies as well and the place was fully packed so i’m pretty sure you can’t go wrong here!
J. L.
Stumbled upon this place as a pit stop and walked into a room smell of freshly baked cookies and hot chocolate! There are sandwiches, pies, cookies and some fruits to either takeaway or dine in. Toasties were awesome!
W. L.
Busy place. Menu not availble due to understaffed. Only choose the existing food (pies, sandwiches, chips etc). Not bad though.
D. M.
Great service, good eggs and coffee. Only opens 0800
ᗪ. ᴗ.
Better than expected for a small town joint! Good beef burgers with genuine patties and fries were pretty tasty. Would lunch here again on a roadie.
A. W.
I waited more than 20-25 minutes before serving my hot chocolate, it was very long ! The price of gas is overpriced, but it makes sense given the location. I could see several Kea on the terrace, it was nice.
S. R.
Nice place for breakfast and lunch, plenty of tables plenty to choose from.
Nice friendly staff
D. S.
Nice little pit stop with plenty of options for food and drinks. Petrol station here is very handy to get you through to the end of the very long journey that is Arthurs pass. Would highly recommend stopping here to see the kia's that hang around the local cafe but Watch out they can be nasty towards your car hahaha
M. G.
I asked for a coffee milkshake "with real coffee" - OMG, please put that on your menu board. It was absolutely brilliant!!!
The BLT, and Chips were fantastic too.
E. T.
Classic cabinet food cafe. 1 vegan option of a vege korma pie. Good for car snacks lots of drinks, lollies etc. Toilets, can sit and eat here
T.
Hot foods such as pies, wraps, sanwiches, pastried and fruit to select cafeteria style and also a menu to order meals from. Lots of dining space inside and out. If you sit outside look out for the cheeky Kea birds who will try to take your food. They come up very close and are not bothered by people.
P. R.
An ok pit stop for a bite to eat but very busy. A must stop for an up close and personal with the kea parrots.
G. Z.
Bought some bits and pieces here before going to our accommodation in Bealey Hotel. It is snowing this arvo and that was cool.
H. A. S.
Great pies but the coffee is a loss for me. It's not burn but it's to acid. The shot is"nt good to begin with. Some people will enjoy that kinda coffee shot but not for my tummy. I enjoy good coffee since I only have coffee for breaky.
L. R.
One of the only places for a coffee and eat something if you are on the area. Basic service, coffee and food are fine.
I. S.
Very nice place to stop for a coffee and a meal. If your lucky the Keas might come and visit.
J. B.
Quick service, good food and lovely and warm even with it snowing outside.
C. L.
Stopped for morning coffee but ended up making a meal it! Delicious hot pies & the best date scones. Plenty of other options too. Excellent service. No complaints especially for a small village.
P. S.
Always have to make a stop here. Good food, and restrooms, and friendly
The antics from the keas, are a bonus.
S. B.
Friendly counter service and delicious pancakes. Can't speak for any other aspect.
J. T.
Good spot , thankfully had the diesel I was looking for, though hard to spot the bowsers. Food and coffee Ok and to top it off we were visited by a Kea
S. S.
The sign on the door warned of delays due to staff shortages, and they had cut back hours and restricted meals to cope.
But despite being literally the only place in town they did a good job serving the queue and the coffee was perfectly fine.
The store has small liquor section out back which has a good enough range, some basic supplies like bread and milk, and serves a small range of pies, sausage rolls, and at various times other meals.
Not a supermarket, and not a restaurant, but good for the basics, and for a coffee or pie.
A.
I visited this shop frequently, where I purchased most of my meals while staying in Arthur’s Pass. Tried out their pies, toasties, juices and cookies. All were delicious.
J. W.
Beautiful coffee and food.
Getting to see some kea so close is absolutely magnificent! Easy to get photos for those bird lovers or just travellers who haven't seen them so up close before.
Definitely worth stopping in while going through Arthur's Pass, or even if staying there.
S. C.
Good food and coffee. Kea's are usually around as well 😁
J. D. P.
We ended up in this café 4 times in 3 days due to bad weather in the region and no reasonable alternatives. WiFi was very unreliable. Service quality and quantity varied from hour to hour due to busy times and shortage of staff. The brownies, pies and quiches were amazing! Considering the staff issues at the moment, it was quite alright!
C. B.
Stopped off for lunch after spending the morning hiking, it was very busy with a queue at the self service food counter. There were two tills manned so we didn't have to wait long. Staff were friendly, but busy.
The hot pie's we had were delicious, a vegetarian korma and a chicken pie.
Plenty of seating both outside in the sun ☀️ and inside.
We even saw three Kea's, though there are plenty of signs asking you not to feed them.
z. a.
good quick meal and drinks for stop at Arthur's pass.
W. Y. N.
good place to stop and refresh. surprisingly good pies. even better than Sheffield’s.
G. d. C. T.
Food is ok, but the place needs improviment
T. S.
The only store on the pass and the only thing open most days so this is the place to be. Unfortunately they’re short staffed so the menu is limited but still a mix of hot and cold meal options from the counter, plus a basic country store. Prices and selection certainly reflect the remote location but great to grab a quick bite or a cookie and coffee to take back to the hotel.
J. M.
Great place to stop for a coffee and see the Keas.
B.
Arthur's Pass Cafe & Store is basically the only place to fill up on petrol and buy basic food provisions when you are staying in the tiny Arthur's Pass Village. Opening hours 8am to 5pm daily.
Here you will find a basic bakery style cafe with self-serve pies, sandwiches, cakes and a few other ready to eat food orders. You can order standard coffee drinks as well. There is also a food provision section with a few frozen meats, canned vegetables, pasta, pasta sauce, breads, snacks, drinks and other staples that you can cook up in area accommodations which have kitchens.
We found food items on offer sufficient for preparing very basic meals and prices reasonable. Still better to stock up at larger supermarkets before making your way into Arthur's Pass. However, if you find yourself here and in need for something basic, this is the place to go. Just note that they close at 5pm each evening.
Note: For a bit of fun, there seem to often be large Kea parrots that hang out at the shop. They are rather accustomed to visitors and seem to be eager to nip a bit of your sandwich or whatever food you might be holding. Have a look, enjoy seeing these peculiar birds but don't feed them if you can avoid the temptation.
C. D.
Nice place to get an ice cream cone and have a walk. Staff are always friendly
P. C.
Friendly staff and good basic food. Recommend a visit.
K.
Pretty basic. No complaints specifically it was just a dull place in a beautiful location. Will try the one I saw opposite next time.
Your trading on your location and side of the road guys... try harder and reward people for coming through the door with a bit more atmosphere and kiwi hospo if you can please!
E. J.
Did not disappoint! Great coffee (even had almond milk). Partner got a pie and sausage roll which was delicious. I had scrambled eggs on toast which was good. Nice clean toilets too!
S.
Beautiful cafe, pies are alright. Coffee is… drinkable, if you like bitter over-extracted coffee. Loads of room for improvement
E. T.
Busy little Cafe & convenience store. Lots of seating inside and a few tables outside. Be weary if the Kea's and not to feed them. Heaps of signage around telling you otherwise and no refunds if they steal your food. Lol.
S. W. S.
Chai Latte was disgustingly sweet, would never order again.
Coffee was alright....
Sausage roll is good but on the salty side.
Steak and cheese pie was absolutely delicious, meat juicy and tender, crust nice and crisp.
Overall a decent place as an r&r, decor and atmosphere nice and cosy.
S. W.
This place makes the best pot pie. In the middle of nowhere, really, I thought they were gonna charge for the sake of being the only spots in hundreds of miles, but their food came out to be excellent. All the pies were warm and flakey with tasty good fillings. Their coffee and tea were flavorful and warm, great for the weather around Arthur's Pass. I would recommend this place to stop if you were going across the southern island of New Zealand.
C.
Only came in for a quick bite and a nice hot drink.
Got a toasted panini which was a lot better then it looked, but still an average snack. Also got a hot chocolate, which was amazing, tasted really nice.
Very nice location, would be great to see when it snowed.
G. D. E.
If you are travelling through, definitely stop here as there is a great view of mountains towering over you, and the cafe looks pretty retro
S. O.
Nice little place for a breakkie. My son ordered the blueberry pancakes and they were absolutely delicious.
h. j.
From the street on the way to Arthus's Pass we can have food and nice coffee
M. W.
A great place to grab a coffee & something to eat, sit inside or out and listen to the keas, or in the winter see the beautiful snowy hills surrounding the Cafe. A magically set place. Great customer service. Friendly people.
E. A.
Enjoyed our ride from Christchurch to Arthurs Pass with friends & on arriving were grateful of a great indoor/outdoor venue to settle after our journey for a bite to eat & relax.
Swamped by other bikers & car drivers/tourists alike, great sunny situation, a good selection of refreshments & clean available toilets.
Staff "under the pump" but friendly & working at "time-warp" speed to manage the hoards.
Petrol also available which was a Godsend for one of the team
Recommended venue & happy to stop in again
S. F.
Amazing steak and mushroom pie! The gluten free caramel and macadamia nut dessert was so so so delicious! I should have bought two!
J.
Good egg sandwiches and nice (but not terribly hot) flat white coffee. Outdoor seating in the sun (rain) or undercover and also indoor seating. Nice staff, but I've given it a five star because, while we were sitting in the sun drinking our coffee a Kea emerged from the shrubs next to our table, obviously looking for food. It actually climbed onto the table to see if we'd left anything that was of interest. The good thing is that we didn't see anyone feed it, but it did look like it was a regular visitor and I'd return to this cafe as it's obviously a good place for Kea spotting :)
W. K.
I found the range of food and drinks available great and the seating ample. But being 1 of only a couple of places supplying these in Arthur's Pass it made it crowded around the cashier and very slow and unorganised with service. Although we ordered our drinks together I had almost finished mine before my friends arrived. And this only after reminding them. Also with the way it is set up people were inadvertently stepping into the middle of the queue and creating a small amount of angst.
D. B.
While the building is wheelchair/pram accessible, inside is not very cramped, hard to negotiate with a pram. Food is OK, good range. There is scoop ice creams available here. Staff friendly there is also a mini grocery cupboard (about the size of a walk in pantry) but it has the basic you might need if stuck.
M. R.
A good menu and a comfortable setting. The prices are very high as you would expect from a tourist destination. It's a good place to stop for a break while traveling the pass, but you would be better off bringing your own sandwiches if you're trying to save money. You can also get fuel here if you're running low.
P. R.
Good food, unfortunately we had to wait almost an hour for a cup of chips, but the staff gave us a bowl of chips as compensation.
S. B.
Nice food. Good prices. Nice place to stop for lunch.
A. K.
Lovely place with very friendly staff
W. Z.
Say hi to the Kea bird, they always visit the store. But remember to not feed them!
D.
Great pies and coffee. (Previously 5*)
Although have visited recently and was a little disappointed by the lack of "hospitality" accidentally dropped a takeaway cup of coffee (coffee was too hot) trying to open door. No offer of help provided.
G.
Good pies and hot coffee. 5stars for being consistently open. Most other shops around the area are often closed or under staffed.
S. S.
Very cramped. Placement of things in the cafe will make it hard for wheelchairs and the like.
They seem to have managed to make their coffee thermonuclear. Once it cooled down 20 minutes later it was actually very good.
S. H.
Not a great variety if food. Had the gf muffin which was a bit grainy. This are expensive as you'd expect this far away from civilisation but with the number of people who visit I would have expected more variety in the cabinet. Wobbly Kea next time for us.
C. H.
Food was OK. However, the toilets are not being maintained. One toilet flap will not stay up. Whilst hovering above the seat, one has to hold the flap up with one hand and then somehow pull a bit of toilet paper off the roll, with the other hand. However, the whole roll falls onto the floor because the dispenser has no cover. It has, apparently, been like that for a long time. It's hilariously bad.
R. T.
Love stopping at Artists pass. Great ice cream breakfast was a bit blan. Had better cheap bacon and poor looking mushrooms obviously done on a tight budget.
B. M.
Waiting for my ride to tun up. Coffee good as well as the food. Cafe was busy. But weirdly when cleaning a table they put the chairs on top of the table even in the middle of the day when heaps of people were coming and going.
L. A.
We always stop here when travelling through the pass. Good selection of food and drink. Usually busy!
Nice and warm on cold days.
Also sells souvenirs as well as basic groceries.
F. L.
Nice rest stop for coffee and a snack
R. A.
Nice selection of food and drinks at a reasonable price. Handy little gift shop as well with a selection of souvenir items. The staff were very friendly too.
W. W. K.
Great spot for a coffee with beautiful views and cheeky keas all around :) customer service not the best though unfortunately.
J. F.
Very glad there is hot brews here when doing that drive!
Thanks for the establishment, kai & coffees, awesome place.
Cheers.
G. G.
Great coffee. Excellent fresh egg sandwiches and a great slice. Busy place indeed as it's obviously quite popular
A. K.
The date scone is awesome chunky pieces and a mouthful. Coffee is good too. Hot space for motorcycles to rest and enjoy the warm sun behind the large windows
C. A.
Food is good. Had a pie, apple crumble and a coffee and hit the spot 👌
C. F.
Great stop for coffee and early breakfast on the way to the Coast and last stop before hitting the Canterbury Plains at the end of the day. Lovely environment, great choice of foods, and lovely hot drinks.
C. V.
A wonderful spot to stop for a coffee, very nice to see that prices were great and food was great. Coffee was good nz coffee iykyk
M. E.
Food and staff great. Place was very busy - hard to find a table. Keas beautiful but persistently annoying
C. H.
great place to stop for a coffee and cake, but make sure you rug up as the owners of this very popular Cafe don't waste money on heating as the place was freezing
H. R.
Good service from man at counter. Chips could have been hotter. But the husbands pie and my sausage roll were very good
L. S.
Staff were happy,Coffee was primo, good array of food for dietary, vegan and vegetarian.
G. S.
This is a great place to stop and get coffee. It's also a convenience store. I would definitely recommend stopping by for some snacks for your trip or just to get some food to cook at your accomodation
J. K.
Good coffee and delicious pies. If anything, the decor can do with a upgrade.
J. L.
An awesome spot to see Keas ! Also great coffee , one of the only places in the world where you can reliably see these gorgeous parrots ! Just dont feed them and make them sick
L.
A super quaint cafe whose pies are awesome. I might not rave about the coffee but I’d definitely come back next time we’re passing through.
T.
Popped in for a coffee on our trip. Excellent coffee. One of the best we have had. Would highly recommend.
S. C.
Fairly basic, with little food selection (pies and sausage rolls, mainly), and very challenging to find a seat or even move around if you happen to be here at the same time as a tour bus.
M.
Havent seen Keas come by but great pies and decent desserts. NY Pepper my favorite. Also has some clothings and souvenir stuff
A. B.
Had a good coffee for a chilly day ☕️
S. H.
Every time we ride over, it's always flat out. But a great place to stop for a coffee and an unwind
P. a. M. R.
A very busy road stop in the middle of nowhere. But sit outside, weather permitting, and you will get to see the Kea up close. Really close.
t. s.
Been a while since we last came here and it's definitely looking a bit tired, toilet seat broken, cluttered round the counter making it difficult to order food.
P. Z.
Ok store & bakery if you need something quickly before your hike in the national park or the long drive through. Prices in the store are obviously higher than elsewhere and so is the petrol.
A. G. (. P.
Their coffee was far better than expected and they seemed to have. A good range of nice food.
M. L.
Splendid place to stop and stretch ya legs. Dry off from a spot of rain, or prepare for the road ahead ;-) Ok food and prices - it's a shop in the middle of ..., well, nowhere! Some swinging walks if your in want, but with a petrol stop, hey, it's a tourist hangout. Say "hi" to the Kia's, don't laugh to much at them or they'll have their revenge ;-D Brilliant. Stop; eat, enjoy+
K. P.
Reasonably-priced cafe food with a great selection of pies. The grocery store portion didn't have eggs, which was surprising, although it had most other basics.
M. S.
Nice cafe, food was okay and was the selection. It was a welcome stop as I was on my motorcycle and it was raining. No issues with entering the shop in my bike gear.
T. D.
Nothing much essentials were sold at the store. Just very basic needs such as instant noodles, crackers and snacks etc. very understaffed as well.
O. G.
Quaint place. Peter the Kea amusing.
S. M. J.
Pit stop bakery-cafe with some snacks and freeze dried food. Nothing delicious to write home about but comfortable nonetheless. Would've wished for wifi though...
C. B.
Average coffee but a nice spot for a stop
D. R.
gas pump abit hard to drive up too, Staff at this place are welcoming friendy and attractive. Coffee was nice and the mountain biscuits were awesome
L. T.
Had early lunch on way home from coast. Couldn't find fault with the food, all very good.
c. h.
Lovely little spot we dived into during a drive I a down pour. Great coffee and pastries.
I. C.
I just want to tell people
YES, THERE IS A PETROL PUMP!
R. W.
Great bakery - nice coffee, good breakfast menu food, and lunch cabinet food was tasty and well priced.
d. w.
Arthur’s Pass also have petrol station but the prices is always high beyond the sky so if you planning to go to Arthur’s Pass, make sure you have plenty of petrol/diesel on your tank.
C. K.
Delicious date scone and great coffee.
S. C.
Coffee was pretty good. So, were the mince pies. A pair of keas tried to get a chunk of our pies.
A. K.
A great place to grab a quick bite or coffee / tea / hot chocolate. Also has small petrol pump attached to eat along with outdoor seating area
J. P.
Nice warm and friendly place. Very big meals but also very expensive. Lovely bar staff.
C. H.
A must during trips to the the coast. A good selection of food, however a poor selection of energy drinks relative to a local dairy.
C. M.
Best New York Pepper Steak pie I've had in a long time
M. D.
Great place to stop on a very wet drive. Nice and warm with good meat pies
T. W.
Will always stop to have a pie before heading to the coast. Friendly staff, great food and huge sandflies 😉
R. N.
Normal coffee shop. There is nothing special about it and also nothing that I can fault them. Pretty good place to stop and have a coffee.
U. F.
Nice place to have some rest and coffee, on the way to west coast
G. H.
Very Efficient. This little Cafe and Store has pretty much all you need for a stop. Service is super efficient, served in no time at all.
M. Y.
Very nice little place for a break from sightseeing.
Friendly service, hot coffee and simple quick food really hit the spot.
J.
This is a nice cafe, but very pricey because it is mainly a tourist attraction.
G. S.
Industrial looking place with friendly staff. Average coffee and my yummy lamb and kumara pie had very soft pastry ... fell apart while trying eat it one handed.
M. M.
Great shop and super friendly staff!
A. P.
Only got hot drinks. Coffees were slow to come out but the place was busy and were all good once received.
W. T.
Prepare to queue at busy times. Otherwise nice food n coffee and usually a bit of bird life to entertain
J. M.
Breakfast was OK. Cool alpine location and keas were on form. Worth the stop!
w. r.
Great food, great service! Its definitely worth trying the cod fish batter and chips and it's a good price ❤😊
A. L.
Nice coffee and sandwiches. Only sad thing was that the kitchen closed for hot meals at 2pm
T. R.
Lovely muffins, good coffee, friendly service 🙂
A. M.
Had coffee and a roll OK service could have been better, no keas that day ok
M. W.
Great place to relax. Good food busy place
j. f.
Excellent food and service 😊 probably the best mocha chino I've had ...
C. D.
The store helpers were extremely helpful and they have great pies!
R. P.
Great location and food selection good however the staff weren't friendly.
D.
Little overpriced for two eggs on toast but the cappuccino was relatively cheap and the best I had over a two week trip.
S. T. Y.
quite a cozy cafe but not much choice of food, maybe is they closing soon at 5pm
G. K.
Food coffee ok. Could do with some more heating. Very cold the day I was there. Friendly staff.
G. B.
Friendly staff. Generous ice cream size. Always enjoy stopping here.
M. S.
Service and food very good
K. B.
Lovely toastee and chips, nice hot pot of tea. Friendly service and nice atmosphere
E. S.
Had really good coffee here after the disappointment at Jacksons Tavern. The staff seems to be a bit stressed though.
F. F.
Good to have a break here after a long drive from Punakaiki, the Chicken Curry Pie is unexpected delicious! Surprised!
O.
Good half way stop. Clean toilets with a basic Cafe.
P. R.
Could use a makeover but a convenient stop before tackling the rest of the journey.
P. P.
One of the only places in Arthur's pass to eat. Good food and coffee though
m.
Worth stopping just for the view. Foods not bad either.
B. J.
Sandwich and a hot chocolate for lunch. Very nice.
M. S.
Was very busy but still had good service good on you staff
R. R.
Not that you have other choice. Some where in the middle of no where to fill up your car and stomach. Not much variety but what is available is not too bad to eat.
J. C.
Great stop for a bite to eat or a coffee as was our case. Friendly staff.
M. H.
Lovely quiet setting in outskirts of town. Excellent motels so clean and comfortable.
R. T.
Very, very busy. Nice coffee and pies.
J. H.

There is nothing here in Arthur's pass, so a place like this is very nice!
Good coffee for a good price, friendly staff, clean toilets, plenty of seating inside and outside, good to-go and menu options for breakfast and lunch. Prices for to-go, ice cream and coffee are really reasonable for such a small place! Also a small souvenir shop and supermarket, although I would like to see more vegetable options, there were no soup or even eggs... that would be easy in a store like that, I think.
Lots of Kea's around the cafe! Very nice.

Hot food, drinks, snacks and ice products are all available, simple and delicious.

Cozy and warm place, delicious coffee...
And the parrots come from there from time to time.
M. M.
I can't decide if this is a cool place. On the one hand, they close quickly, on the other hand, they have tasty coffee. The attraction is definitely the parrots constantly trying to steal something to eat from the tables

Arthur's Pass is one of the three passes of the South Island of NZ and in my opinion the most picturesque. This cafe is located right in the middle of the pass in the town of the same name. It is famous for its Kea parrots, the only mountain parrots of its kind. Very smart and cheeky :)

Nice place with friendly staff. Too bad we couldn't order a hamburger because there were too few staff.
R. D. C.
Gas station very close to the park information point, there are also several shops to buy souvenirs and a cafeteria.
A. S.
Places well-loved by Keas... Good choice of products for this type of location. Good service.
다.
Gas prices here are very expensive. It is more expensive than Queenstown. I ran out of gas, so I cried and put gas in it. This is the only gas station while passing Arthur's Pass, so make sure to fill up before you pass. If you want to fill up here, you have to leave your ID at the counter, so it's a hassle.

We parked the car here and had some food. It was not too expensive and delicious. It was close to attractions.
