Reviews of Wainui Golf Club
The course is a lot better than I remember from 4 years ago. A great golf course.
Great place to visit and enjoy nice food, coffee and beverages plus enjoy a great round of golf.
One of the best golf course in Auckland.
A challenging course with lots of obstacles and different elevation, looking forward to getting back there shortly!
Amazing as always! The steak was super delicious and tender with a fried egg!!
Absolutely a championship level course! The layout and the high standard of the greens and fairways are world class. And I agree the four holes (12, 13, 14, 15) in the second nine they call "the devil's fingers" are arguably the 4 hardest holes in a row in Australasia. The club house and food is a major step-up in class over other courses. This ranks in the top 10 for NZ for me, and top 3 for Auckland.
Maintained to a high standard, one of the few tracks that stays playable year round which says a lot after all the flooding and rain in Auckland. Enjoyable layout which requires thought from the tee box.
An excellent and challenging golf course, only 5 minutes from home. Terrific service at the pro shop, and an immaculate practice facility makes this a great option for membership. Thoroughly enjoyed my round 6 months ago. If only I could join (intermediate membership waitlist). Cheers
Only played the par 3 Orchard 9 course but this was excellent for beginners. The folks at the club are very helpful and friendly and I would thoroughly recommend this place to anyone looking to take up the sport.
The main course looked superb also and the clubhouse is an excellent modern building with all the amenities you'd require.
Overall a great experience.
Beautiful golf course, good place to hang out with friends on the weekends
Beautiful and well maintained golf course.
The food is delicious and the staff are super friendly ❤️
Love playing the Orchid Par 3 course.
Went here for dinner. Was great to find a place with such good food and nice views. If you live in the area well worth a visit
Fantastic View, A golf course where you can play golf even if it rains
Nice course for kids learning. 60 to 120 metre holes, greens are fairly true. We enjoyed a family outing with 4 adults and 2 children. 3rd visit. The lunch after is quite good. Lots of juice variety.
Fairways in great condition, greens a good speed. Worth the trip out there for the Monthly Open day second Wednesday of the month.
Lovely spacious dining area with terrific views over the golf course in the valley below.
Food was excellent and the duck I had was beautifully cooked. Tender and moist. My wife had the pork and it was equally delicious.
Service was very good, attentive and friendly.
Great course unfotunate to be playing in winter... Summer would have been better real hard course though
We went to the golf course to celebrate Mothers day. They set up a carvery. Firstly, declare my bias... Not a carvery fan. Food was ok, nothing special. Servers weren't great but that's fairly standard for a carvery. My slice of roast pork was 2cm thick! Nice views of the golf course. Generally ok but nothing great.
Top class golf course, only 30 minutes from Auckland city centre.
Fully stocked pro shop, bit challenging for for beginner, but hugely entertaining for intermediate and higher skill level golfer.
Green is bit fast, but manageable.
Bar & restaurant offer excellent view of golf course with tasty meal and drink after round of golf.
Went there for lunch and after reading some reviews was pleasantly surprised. Staff couldn't have been more pleasant and helpful, wide selection of food to choose from at reasonable prices and the new building was really well done and would be excellent for weddings or conferences. Had a look around the golf course and suspect it would be rather challenging but offers an interesting day out. All in all well worth the trip.
Fantastic course. Very challenging off the tee on your first visit (a course guide would be great, even some hole signs wouldn’t go astray for a first timer), but in great condition with every hole very different. One of the most enjoyable Auckland golf rounds we have had. Personally if I lived in Auckland still I’d probably become a member. Average scoring round, with a couple of lost balls, but an awesome afternoon of golf in very hot conditions. Can’t wait to play again having more knowledge of the layout.
Golf course is fantastic! The new fairways are great to play off, just a few sandy patches that are in repair but otherwise lovely to play off.
Club house and facilities are first class.
The potential of this course is phenomenal. The layout is superb with a fantastic mix of challenging holes where every club in the bag will be used. However the course is only 2/3 years old and as such has a few issues to resolve.
Specifically I believe the playability and therefore the enjoyability of playing the course is significantly reduced by the punitive rough. Not only does the rough encroach far too close to the playing areas but is soo severe that when, not if, your ball goes into the unbelievably thick rough your chances of finding the ball is virtually zero.
I hope that the course manager and his team are working on improvements of managing the rough. If not they need to be as without severe management the course will not appeal to anyone other than the elite golfer. I am sure that the management of Wainuai want to develop a top notch product that can be enjoyed by ALL golfers and a course that encourages first time visitors to return time after time.
Having played the old Peninsula course many times I believe that Wainui is a massive step up towards a top notch golf course but only if the playability is dramatically improved.
I congratulate the management team of Wainui for their dexterity in overcoming the many difficult years that they have come through to finally have the course, along with magnificent clubhouse and catering facilities finally in place. Significantly improve the playability of the course and you will have one of the best facilities in New Zealand.
Very challenging course. Playing off a 6 handicap I didn't find any holes easy. Playing it for the first with all its blind shots is interesting to say the least. The greens were true and fast but nearly every green is multi tiered. If you can play this course without a 3 putt you're doing well. The back nine is definitely the harder 9 holes. I think I hit driver twice on back nine. Position off tee is key if you want to score well here. The pin positions were borderline ridiculous the day I played. The course is hard enough without placing the pins in positions you'd expect to see on last day of the US open. It's for this reason I probably won't go back to this course.
Went for lunch with friends and two of us had the Wagyu Burger. It was terrible, the meat I think was processed. It was like eating a slice of luncheon sausage. The outside of the Pattie looked like it should but when you cut into it.!!!!! Such a shame as the venue is nice, had been there before but didn't have the burger, and won't again.
Great Night. Beef Wellington for Two and a Hazy. Delicious, perfectly prepared and presented.
Absolutely Amazing Facilities, both the GM and other Managers are amazing. No Expense spared, top level facility for anything from Weddings to a round of golf. Be sure to try out the Wainui Kitchen!!!! - breath taking views, well designed course by famous international designer... 5/5
A challenging course indeed. But good layout. The lack of a driving range for the past 18 odd months however is a major fail.
This course is still very new and whilst it is extremely stunning there is still a lot of development needed... It has all the elements of becoming a 5* golf course though and is well worth a try. The round tool over 5 hours though and take plenty of balls!
Relatively new course. Excellent modern facilities including cafe and bar overlooking the wide vistas of the greens and lake. General public welcome. Well worth considering for a special function.
beautiful club house and views but lacked atmosphere a bit soleless and could do with some more staff! the front office was unattended on friday to ask about membership and basically no one around to welcome you to such a prestigious club. Perhaps play some background music etc etc
Fantastic venue! The superb food was only outdone by the exceptionally friendly service. Not just for golfers, very family friendly.
there for lunch, nice spot and environment, the fish was not quite so good.
Beautiful afternoon for Mothers Day Buffet lunch. Food was great. Views just as lovely.
Amazing food! Amazing staff! Family friendly!
The most amazing view!
A hidden gem in Wainui that more people need to know about
Great course. Challenging but fun. Fantastic new facilities and friendly staff, I’ll be back
