Greenskeepers. One teenage daughter of a farmer who mows the greens once a week.
Maybe 1000 head of sheep for the rest
Par 34, about 2400m in length.
Somehow there is a golf course on this piece of land.
The first hole, a 460m par 5 has thermal springs and a road welcoming a snap hook from the elevated tee.
Your approach has a stream running diagonally around 30/50 short, then there is a pitch to a generous but flat green, surrounded by electric fence. The green runs about 3 on the stump if the mower hasn't touched it for a week.
The second is a 260m uphill blind par 4 ,a bunker and electric fence guard the green.
3 is a spectacular 125m drop back down the valley to an offset green.
The 4th is a challenging par 4 back up the hill, with a semi blind second to a raised green.
5 is a par 3 playing over a deep valley. As I only had 8 clubs, 8 iron into the wind wasn't enough. Cracking 135m hole though!
A walk around the clubhouse took you to the backside of the course, where the elevated tee on 6 gave views down the valley. A rolling fairway, shaped by nature and sheep left a blind second from the gully of around 140 in.
7 was an uphill 3, to the largest green on the course, and 8 was a mid length par 4 to a rolling, dropping fairway, and another pitch to a blind, skyline green .
And to the piece de resistance, the 9th.
My 3w ran through the blind fairway at 210, leaving 120m in, and about 30m of elevation rise to go.
A full blooded wedge didn't make the green, but a chip and a putt on the hardest hole gave a satisfying par to finish.
Great fun and the closest to Scotland I have come playing golf.
It's not the best course you will play, but it's fun, it's bonkers, it's spectacular and absolutely unique. And it's better value for money than 500 at Kinloch or a grand at Kidnappers
