Spectacular Northland, Bay of Islands location.

Kauri Cliffs was an amazing course. Matched by the views. Definitely up there with the best in New Zealand I’m sure. Brilliant facilities from shop, changing rooms, practice green and warm up range which was constantly stocked with balls by a young guy as you hit them.
I played in early spring, so course was wet and for the back nine the drainage seems to be very poor. For the back nine we weren’t allowed to drive the carts off the cart path, which made it very annoying to not only get to your ball each time but you had to either guess your club selection each time or carry a handful of different clubs. It only got worse if you didn’t hit the fairway and had to look for your ball haha. Only other gripe was the food selection was average to me and my mate. Not many options and expensive for what you got. The elitist attitude too let’s it down, you can only use the main restaurant and bar if you’re a paying guest staying at the premises.... you serious?..

What a way to end our golf tour of NZ. Great layout and great scenery. Just like sister course Cape Kidnappers the fairways were lush even in autumn.

Everything about this venue emanates luxury. But as it always has done, the kiwi coastline steals the show.
