N. W.New Zealand’s oldest golf course, the Manawatu Golf Club, offers a delightful golfing experience that blends history with immaculate course conditions. From the moment I arrived, the friendly staff in the pro shop made me feel at home, setting the tone for an enjoyable day ahead. Though my original round was delayed due to heavy rains (resulting in a cart ban), when I finally played, it was as if the weather had never happened—the fairways were in perfect condition.
The tree-lined layout of this classic parkland course is stunning, and it’s easy to see why it ranks among New Zealand’s top 30. While I didn’t find the fairways overly tight, the strategically placed bunkers on nearly every drive demanded careful thought, making each shot an engaging challenge. The par 5s offer a tempting opportunity to reach the green in two—though I didn’t quite manage it!
The greens were fast and beautifully maintained, with subtle breaks keeping me on my toes. I particularly enjoyed the short par 3s, each one scenic and protected by well-positioned bunkers, adding to the visual appeal and challenge.
If you’re ever in the area, don’t miss out on playing this historic gem—you won’t regret it!
A. C.A well maintained course, in lovely parkland setting, if you lift your gaze while wandering the fairways you will notice a pleasant variety of trees. The fairways are wider than I am used to so did not find it particularly intimidating off the tee, but beware the plethora of very well placed bunkers, you do need to think about shot selection. Its a pretty, and well maintained course, with Tui flying around whuch is cool, but others will offer more of a golfing challenge. Modern clubhouse and facilities, only had a drink so can't comment on the food.
P.Food was amazing and the staff were lovely too. They even remembered my Nana which is so awesome.

C. S.Beautiful course, amazing facilities. I didn't know Palmerston North had such a nice golf course. Particularly impressed with how green the fairways were at a time where they're very dry at most places. Only played the front 9 but looking forward to coming back and playing the back.

A. J.We had our end of year corp function here in December 2019 and the service we received was above and beyond excellent. The food was amazing and we were looked after very well. We had drinks, golf activities and canapes on the green to start, then headed inside for a sit down buffet meal which was very much enjoyed by staff. The service from all staff was 10/10. Thank you for a seamless night. We def would return in the future without a doubt.
L. A.We went for lunch, with a 2 and 7 and 10 year old. They were excellent. Clean large toilets. Plenty of room to breast feed or change clothes very warm atmosphere. Large menu and very reasonable.
M. L.I eat in the cafe twice a week, sometimes three. The food is fabulous and very affordable, but the staff are what makes the place. They are so kind and helpful, especially to the elderly clientele who need a lot of patience. I highly recommend the cafe for anybody who likes great food, a serene vista, and special service.
G. E.Have played Manawatu twice a year for many years as it is my old home course. It has always been the benchmark in terms of layout and presentation. It saddens me to say that I really feel the course is starting to slip backwards in recent times unfortunately. The felling of large significant pines has detracted badly from it's appeal as these magnificent stands of trees have really defined the impressiveness of the course over the years. Also on this last visit the rough has become more mud than grass and the greens were just OK at best. I hope to find the course at its normal beautiful condition on my next visit but unfortunately the missing trees will be unredeemable. I can t really recommend at the moment especially at around $100 for a green fee
L. P.Went there for a function. It was spacious, the sound system worked well, however the doors between our conference room and the adjacent room did not shut properly.
Staff serving food kept coming on this door instead of walking around through the corridor, interrupting the programme with the noise coming through this door.
There were enough bathroom/toilet facilities.
There was ample parking.
It is a good venue and has a great history displayed throughout the place.
C. J.Have been there for a few work functions now and they cope fairly well. The floor to ceiling windows give nice outlook onto the golf course, and dining area is comfortable. Beer selection has improved. Food is OK and suits a diverse group, but is nothing to write home about.

G. N.Great golf course not super long but tight and a good tee shot is required to have a shot at the greens. The greens are in great nick, fast and true with a lot of elevated greens. We played in the wind which made it a very challenging day. Members are friendly too and the practice facilities are great too with a good range and chipping, bunker, and putting green. Definitely coming back again soon!

W. -.Also known as Hokowhitu, the layout here starts with a pleasant par-4, lined with palms, pines, birches and occasional eucalyptus - a clear indication that a rather delightful, tree-lined, parkland course awaits. Look beyond the first fairway and the essential flatness of the course will also be apparent. All in all, a pleasantly enjoyable parkland course - always very well maintained.
