Reviews of Taupo Golf Club - Centennial & Tauhara Courses
E. E. P.
Played 28th Nov 24.
Called in the AM.
Got a slot for the PM.
Went early and got an earlier slot.
Friendly guys at front desk.
Rental clubs worked fine.
The rental bags however were kinda tired. 🥲
Loved the place.
Overall easy going and friendly.
Played at our own pace.
Whilst its not a hard course, stay clear from the rough... It's like THE ABYSS. No balls were found. 🤣🤣
Some greens were being aerated however.
Love the users here! All with respect for the bunkers and the fairway... Unlike in Asia where typical users don't bother at all 😒🤨
Not cheap but well for what's its worth, it's an experience and one for the Gram / Strava.

Taupo Golf Club has two courses- Tauhara, shorter and and the cheaper of the courses and more suited to the casual golfer, and Centennial, longer and more challenging, especially off the blue tees! I've played both in the past and enjoyed them both but today I played Centennial both because I wanted to get around it again and it was far less busy than Tauhara with holiday golfers.
I joined 2 members for the front 9. Bill and Wayne were in their 60's I think and a pleasure to play with. We all found our way around the course on our own different ways proving that the course is challenging to all golfers but also open to being played on different ways. The greens were in great nick despite being recently cored so I was told, and were running at a nice speed and running true. The scenery is fantastic as well. I liked the welcome I got from the pro shop to Bill and Wayne whom I met on the 1st tee. I'll definitely be back in Taupo again this year and I'll be coming to Centennial for another round too- I definitely recommend it.
PS I especially enjoyed the 9th hole, a real looker off the tee.

We are mid handicap golfers. The pro shop staff were great and helpful. We played the Tauhara course. It was in great condition, views great with nice open fairways. Highlights 16, 17 par 3’s with an elevated green then a steep drop to the green. Would certainly return for another round.

A quick visit to the driving range with my son and daughter. Coming from the UK I am aware that golf clubs can be stuffy, intimidating and un-welcoming to non-members, but this was definitely not the case during our visit. The two chaps in the shop were very friendly, and supplied us with our basket of balls and 3 clubs. We were directed to the range where we had a smashing time, with some success, 150 balls later. The experience was fun and at no time did we feel 'judged' by anyone we met. The price was very reasonable (better than another course) and we left happy and contented with our experience. We would go back if were in Taupo again.

Taupo Golf Club is a welcoming and friendly place to enjoy your round of golf, especially if on holiday. There are two courses, Tauhara and Centennial. If you are looking for an easier course that is not too long and difficult, then Tauhara is for you. Excellent for families with kids getting started or adults, too. The layout is really enjoyable. I'm a 6 hdcp, and I still enjoy this course. Centennial is a much longer and challenging course to play. Also very enjoyable. Both courses are kept in great condition year round. The soils are very free draining, so you are unlikely to ever find soggy footing. It is recommended that you book a tee time with the pro-shop staff. You can hire clubs and carts. There's a small driving range to warm up on, too, and some small practice greens for refining your touch before commencing your round.
If you are expecting resort standard course conditions, then I suggest you head for Wairakei GC or Kinloch GC. These two will satisfy you more and are both exceptional challenges in fabulous resort condition, but expect to pay +$250 per round accordingly.

Great course. Played Tauhara was a challenge. The greens were in good condition, considering the number of people who played here yesterday, staff in pro shop, extremely helpful.

What a stunning course, Played Centennial 26 odd years ago so I thought I'd give the other course a try....didn't disappoint. Loved it, I won't be waiting as long for my next round there that's for sure.
C. N.
The golf course was in great condition. Loved it.

v. l.

C. S.
Loved it. Friendly pro shop and locals. Played Centennial and was in great condition.

Would be 5 stars if it were cheap country course but greens have been pretty bumpy and slow both times I've played here. Expect more for the $65 Green fee. Putaruru and Tokoroa are in similar condition with better greens for half the price.

Very decent course, front was tough but back played well with some interesting holes. Par 16 & 17 were very rewarding. Fast greens, had to land in front or they would roll on through. People were nice and staff were excellent. With playing

2 courses, Centennial very good. Taupo nice easy course. Great pro shop staff and bar ladies very friendly. Nice view from deck over looking course on 19th.

We took the boys, teenagers on a bit of a golf trip. We played rangitikei which was exceptional, turangi which was outstanding. And then we played centennial.
So centennial was pleasant. But you wonder about price gouging, a topic frequently in the news, based on tourism or supply and demand.
Why was a the same cart at centennial $60, but $25 at Rangitikei and $25 at turangi. At least the others supplied a clean cart.
Green fees for the fifteen year old we bought with us $70 at centennial but only $15 and $20 at the others.
The course was lovely, it not as well groomed as the other two.
It’s a lesson.

First trip to Taupo Golf Club and as a family we played foot golf. The course is set up for this however as you play parallel with some of the normal golf holes warnings wouldn't go amiss. Twice we were almost hit by golf balls.
As a course it is challenging, par 5s are really long when kicking a ball.
Great day had by all.

Located next to the lakeside holiday resort of Taupo, this is a wonderfully natural and well layed-out parkland course. Although you won't see Lake Taupo from the course, the surrounding rural countryside provides some very pleasant views, as and when you can look beyond the tree-lined fairways, where tall eucalyptus and pines are interspersed with smaller trees of many varieties.

I love the Taupo Golf Club. 2 courses to choose from. Centennial is a championship course, long and a challenge. A typical landscape of the area. Good driving range and practice facilities.
F. F.
Excellent golfing facility with two 18 hole courses side by side. Great staff in pro shop and the cafe. Plenty of playing opportunities for golfers of all abilities.
T. P.
Golf course was in great nick even with loads of recent rain. $30 for 9 holes a tad steep but in-line with other courses around.

R. L.
Staff were awesome, both courses are beautiful, Centennial is BRUTAL but a lot of fun. Greens were 🤌🏻 perfect. Tauhara is also great fun but played in gusts and thankfully it doesn’t have the savage roughs that Centennial has and managed to salvage my game haha! Will be back for sure!
l. w.
Bit dry at the moment you would think their could afford the water for the excess payment they charge tourists
