W. -.Although the front nine at Whangarei (also known as Mount Denby) has its moments, it sometimes comes up a tad short of expectations, with several small, unbunkered greens, and a couple of fairly weak holes at the par-3 4th and par-4 9th. Other holes make a better impression, not least the undulating par-4 6th. Standing alongside the 6th tee is the most extraordinary Norfolk pine, its two trunks spiralling skywards in all manner of directions - a remarkable tree, famed throughout Whangarei.
