Reviews of Jai Thai Boxing Gym
M.
Jai was the first gym that I tried Muay Thai at, and till now, I haven’t really found a reason to change gyms. The training facilities are great, the classes are interesting, and the community at Jai is really welcoming! I have had friends that tried other gyms around Auckland but all of them came back to Jai for various reasons, that there weren’t enough time slots available, weren’t enough members of a similar skill level, or weren’t enough variety in the classes. If you’re looking for the best gym to try out some Muay Thai or to train with a community that will likely match your skill level, Jai is the gym to go to!

Jai Thai was recommended to me by a friend when I was visiting from Australia earlier this year. I got in touch with them for private sessions and they accommodated my needs with no fuss! The gym is easy to get to and has a welcoming vibe to it. The trainers are great and professional - got straight into our session, you really got value for every minute you paid for and I learned a lot. The owner also checked in with me after my first session to see how it went which was a very nice unexpected surprise. When I had to come back to Australia they happily refunded me the balance of my sessions. I highly recommend this place for any skill level (I am a beginner however saw some professional fighters also training there) and will definitely be coming back when I’m in New Zealand again.

Jai has been amazing for this total martial arts newbie!
I had always been too unsure of myself to walk into a martial arts gym of any kind - what if they're all psychos and want to kick me in the head? Hahaha!
After going along to their free into class I made a great discovery - the instructors are the nicest people (except when they're pushing you to do a drill with 100 kicks, that's just evil ;)
Jokes aside, couldn't recommend the team here more highly, even if you're just looking for a fitness class that's actually useful (I'm looking at you, boxfit classes at places that rhyme with Mez Thrills :P )

Jai is the best Muay Thai gym in Wellington. Spacious, well maintained and most importantly, very experienced trainers, which all thoroughly explain the drills and check you are performing them correctly. I have lost 7kg in 6 months, and love coming to Jai.

It is a very beautiful club and I loved the coaches, they are caring people in the truest sense of the word. Thank you for your kindness (Ali)

Great central location. It's perfect for going to train and then meeting up with friends for lunch or shopping at Britomart or Queen's Street. Even though I don't fight, it's a great workout - you will definitely sweat a lot (lucky there are showers). The trainers are experienced and kind, but don't let you take it easy. You'll kick and punch hundreds of time in a class - but don't worry times passes really fast because it's so fun.

Another lockdown is happening again and I cannot come to Jai Thai for a week. I feel like my body is getting sad mad without the training and I needed to do something. So here I am, writing down my experience with Jai Thai to share with you guys.
There is actually no words that can describe how much I love this place. Everyone here is so friendly and their trainers are very patient and professional. Tell them what your goals in fitness is and they will help you to achieve it :)
I first encountered with muay thai because I wanted to lose weight but after a while, I realised that thanks to Jai Thai, I have received much more benefits than just getting fit. My health got better; my endurance got higher; my body got stronger; and my reaction got faster. It’s ironic to say that after an intensive, near-death session at Jai Thai, your muscles will feel a lot better and your mind will also feel very relaxed and stress-free. Come to Jai Thai to try it out and you will know exactly what I mean ;)
All my great experience won’t happen if not because of Su-Lin and my personal trainer: Taras. Thank you guys very much, from the bottom of my heart and I think I’ll stick with Jai Thai until I’m 60 years old. Taras is very very skilled and humorous. He has this endless love for Thai boxing, huge passion for teaching it, and a kindest heart. He knows when to reduce the training intensity and when to push it to a higher level. He will make your training time become such a joyful experience. Sometimes I was thinking of suing him for making me training so hard that I thought I was gonna die there but I know from deep down inside that, he was just helping me to go beyond my limitation, to become stronger - mentally and physically. Taras has made me became a better version of myself and I am forever grateful to him because of that.
P/s: To Taras: When it comes to the day that I have to pay for my training fee, you become even more enthusiastic than my landlord when he asks for my rent bro. But I love your passion and personality so much. I admire you man. Please always stay happy, healthy, and passionate like how you are right now 🙏🏻 I just want to say that I am very happy and grateful that we got to know each other, Taras :)

Training varies depending in the class, but I always feel better for going. Trainers are good for assisting with form and technique and it's almost always a demanding workout too. A fun way to keep fit while learning some useful self defence. The fans really make a difference on hotter days as it can get hot and humid.

Started going there over a year ago as a complete beginner (never ever put boxing gloves on before that and always thought I never do Thai boxing due to exercise induced asthma). From day one training was (very) challenging but fun. And I quickly started going 5-6 days a week to training.
Each of the trainers challenged me and allowed me to progress taking on their various styles and picking on my technique to improve it while keeping it fun and constructive.

Best decision I could have made in 2020 was starting Muay Thai.
Second best decision was choosing Jai Thai!
Great gym with friendly staff who are very good at what they do

If you are searching for an authentic Muay Thai gym in Auckland, this is the best place to go! Trainers are patient, very professional and most of all friendly. There is also a wide range of different schedule you can choose and they're extremely flexible.

Jai thai Boxing Gym Auckland is the place to go if you are wanting to really learn Muay Thai from real Muay Thai fighters/trainers... the workouts are hardout but thats what makes this gym the best. The trainers are patient, and totally know how to teach their traditional sport. I could never find a gym that can offer the same class A teaching of Muay Thai like the trainers at Jai Thai Boxing Gym. Not at all intimidating as someone has described...to that person i recommend if you dont expect to train hard then dont join.. maybe join dance class.

Awesome Muay Thai gym. A mix of friendly environment, good facilities and awesome trainers made me keep kicking for almost two years now. Yo, Richie, Steve and Scott are always there to make us work harder and better. Keep on the good work guys!

I'm not gonna be original, and say what everyone is already thinking: this gym is awesome!
Went there as a total beginner, tried the free class and knew at that moment that it would be a great place to learn and improve.
During the 2 month I've been there, I enjoyed being trained by Yo and Boï in the beginner classes (kick start). And by going almost every day, I've even been quickly able to jump on the advanced one (muay power) with more technical training. They also do sparring and personnel training for those who want to push it further.
All the staff is making everyone feel good, and that's why the atmosphere here is fantastic. The more experienced ones give you advice on your stance, the proper way to throw punches, kicks, knees, elbows, etc. You'll improve AND have a good laugh.
Definitely recommend this gym, 200% ^^

I stopped in yesterday for a casual PT session while I was in the country. Gym has a good feel about it, & the trainer I had (Yo) was great to me & my partner who ended up doing a PT straight after me. Great technical teaching, & very good blow out as well.. Nothing matches the authentic Thai style of pad work.. Highly recommended

Training at Jai has been a life changing experience that I will be forever grateful for & I can't recommend it enough.
I began training at Jai 6 years ago as a lonely, overweight science graduate. After one year I came 27th out of 10,000 people in the round the bays fun run. After 18 months I decided to try my hand at fighting and after 4 and a half years I had lived in Thailand 3 times, fought 38 times, won 27 of them and knocked out 18 people (in the ring!).
The confidence and fitness I have built up through training at Jai and the friends I have made have transformed me into someone I truly never thought I could become.

I am visiting Auckland from Los Angeles, California. My home gym is Sityodtong Los Angeles. I wanted to check out a Muay Thai gym here to feel the vibes and to see the authenticity of the art in this country. I also wanted sweat off a couple weeks worth of NZ beers and chips.
I contacted Jai Auckland via email. Su-Lin was super responsive. I received immediate confirmation of a private session for the following day.
The facility was nice and clean. Good size with multiple floors. Offers everything you would possibly need.
I had a session with trainer Yo. Yo is a top notch trainer. Yo had the ability to recognize my strengths and correct my mistakes as we started to flow. He also had a sense of humor which is a must for a good Muay Thai trainer. My hour session reminded me of training in Thailand. My Muay Thai improved while I was having fun.
I did not try out any of the classes so I can’t speak for them. I did watch a few minutes of a class going on after my session and it looked like a fitness class. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.
I will definitely return the next time I am in Auckland. If I were to move to Auckland, this would be my gym.
R.
O love it here, a lot of classes to choose, and nice instructors.

I've been going to this place since before it even properly opened to public! hands down the best muay thai gym in NZ, perfect for newbies wanting to get fit and experienced fighters alike. The most fun way to burn calories and learn new skills, highly recommended!
N.
I'd never touched boxing gloves. I'd barely watched UFC. But I knew that your typical gym was typically boring. This gym formed the bedrock of my continuing fascination with boxing.
Personal training sessions are a great way to start learning the basics of Muay Thai. Just a few of these and you'll have an understanding of the basics. The trainers know their stuff, they've grown up with Muay Thai. Each is different. Some favor strength, some agility, some technique. You'll never hit a plateau here, each session tends to be different.
The group classes are the most gruelling. Less focus on technique but more on stamina - my greatest crutch. But this isn't a Crossfit. While there's a challenge to keep up no one is there to yell or berate you. The decision is yours and you meet that challenge at your own free will. I'm proud to say I've never prematurely quit a single group class, despite being an overweight programmer.
What makes this gym great isn't the programme, be it PT or group classes. It's the friendly atmosphere that encourages newbies. You may be in it just to lose weight (like I first did), but you'll come out with much more.

I've come here for years. Great mix of proper Muay Thai with a casual fun attitude, which successfully caters to complete newbies all the way up to trained fighters who's kicks sound like explosions. A fun and mentally engaging workout!

Been training at Jai for over 3 years now, an awesome way to keep fit. The team are great bunch awesome people who push you to your limit . Overall great experience fully recommend it, good way to get those 6 pack and meet new friends.

Been training there since September last year. Great and supportive staff who know their stuff and are always happy to help.

Kickboxing gyms often conjure up an image of wannabe fight club stars training in a sweaty, smelly old shed. But JAI is a modern, clean and centrally located (5 mins walk from Britomart) gym that caters to a fun mix of male and female clients from students to corporates and beginners through to experienced fighters.

An excellent gym with very friendly staff. Great trainers that provide a well taught class. Very much recommended for learning this art. Great fitness too.

A nice little community that is very welcoming to people of all skill levels. What better way to bond with a new friend than kicking each other

Really nice to go practice casually, on a daily basis, whether you're a beginner or more advanced. I had a great time here for the first free course and will go back as soon as I can :)
