Christchurch YMCA has been my automatic accommodation choice for over 30 years and now it is even better with beautifully refurbished rooms equipped with TVs and fridges and a brand nee kitchen on the end floor. The showers are the best I have experinced

The gym is great. The cafe does lovely berry smoothies. All the staff are helpful and friendly. There is a physio -Muscle People- next to the gym with great staff.

Lovely to share my grand daughters dance experience. However, my partner is an amputee, and having to master the stairs was extremely difficult. No lifts here!

We stayed one night in a room for two and had a great sleep after a long tiring flight. The surrounding area was very quiet despite the central location. The room was tidy and clean, although not too modern. The new modern bathroom was a big plus. The staff was nice and helpful. There's two restaurants in the same building so you can easily grab some lunch.

Seemed to be really clean. Toilets were very clean. Cafe attached, also saw a gym. Staff seemed friendly. Queues out the door checking in so a bus must have just arrived. been here before for art exhibitions. Lord of things to do here. Central location makes it easy to get anywhere in the city from here

Had a night to wait for a flight, but did not want the expense of a hotel, so stayed here. Have not stayed in a YMCA for about 30 years... Staff were great, took a room with a shared bathroom. Room was no frills but ok. I did not have a sleeping bag but still slept well. Bathroom functional and clean. Was great.

It Saturday night I was there with some of my friends to watch salsa dancing.

Had an apartment and a Family Deluxe Room. After we'd made up the bunks, we explored the lovely surroundings. Checking in required a Photo ID - must remember to carry my licence in from the car next time! Apartments are quite different, for the same price. Friends stayed in a stunning one next door! Some maintenance issues raised as we checked out.

Near to the hospital. Super friendly staff. Quick check in. Kitchen and self laundry with coin is available. They even sell indomie in a cup. Love the vending machine. Cheap non membership gym is great. Best hostel

Had a bed in bunk room, lots of lounges, modern inside. Kitchen s bit if mess st time due to guests not cleaning up. Lift uses stripe card to operate. Get food before arrival as not many stores after 9 at night except expensive foodmarts or restaurants. Close to beautiful gardens and museum.

The YMCA is a great place to either get some accommodation or get fit and have a meal. They have rooms, a gym and an attached restaurant. Staff are helpful and approachable and there is a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Car parking is tight and on the street its metered. Do put some money in the machine as parking wardens do patrol regularly. For whatever reason you use the YMCA I am sure it will be a good experience.

Speaking of the fitness centre (gym) only, not the accommodation, but it's pretty decent. The whole place is pretty small but it's fine because it's never very busy; sometimes you may even have the whole place to yourself :D They have a power rack, heaps of dumbbells and all the usual benches and cardio machines. The staff are really friendly too. And you get free parking, locker and showers usage with your gym membership.

Best backpacker i've been in NZ! We had a triple sharing room, each bed with its own electric blanket, room had a heater, closet space to hang some clothes, and a clean, modern spacious bathroom outside each room (it was almost like we had our own private bathroom). Only complaint is that room wasn't really soundproof so we were woken up at 5am by other guests banging around outside as they were leaving but that's normal in most backpackers.

Nicely located in central Christchurch: walking distance to everything, especially the Botanical Gardens. Friendly-enough staff. Rooms were clean. Standard-issue hostel-style set-up with shared kitchen and living room space.

I dont mind the place, quite good actually. I stayed back in 2008 and the location is good. Nice clean room and comfy beds. Wall quite thin though as i heard "funny" noises at night of someone doing it. so funny ... overall it is a good place to stay, i would not mind to stay here again on my next visit.

Try this place you will be impressed. We went deluxe still cheap. Best bathroom ever power shower. Nice bed. Location could not be better.

My class had a small competition, where we had one hour to take pictures of certain things around town. One of the things we had to get a picture of was the museum. My teammate and I went to the YMCA and asked if we could take a picture from a high floor, and the staff let us into an unoccupied room for 5 minutes. It was awesome. The rooms looked nice, and the balcony had a great view. It's so weird to see my hometown from the perspective of a high hotel floor. Thank you kind staff. We came second in our competition, but that was my team's proudest photo.

A beautiful hostel in a beautiful town. The location was perfect and it was not too expensive. The staff was unbelievable friendly but the wifi was pretty expensive.

Great room, good bed! Very clean. Nice shared shower. We had a problem with our car pick up. And Jackie from the reception called to the agency for us and got us our car. Very greatful!

Been there a few times now. Private rooms are fine, communal bathrooms as well, not to mention the private parking. Shared rooms and kitchen are really terrible.

Great location. Really good facilities all around. The cafe, under different management, is a bit hit and miss. I sent back an eggs benedict for the first time in my life. They replaced it with an actually cooked breakfast though, which was nice.

Review of the gym: 7.5$ for a casual entrance, probably the cheapest option around. And it's opened late / on w-end The gym itself is pretty basic but all needed equipment is there and it's clean

Had a great single room with a nice view. Might have been a bit noisy but I sleep pretty well so didn't notice it. Nice staff that were very helpful too.

One of the best hostels I've stayed in to date. They were a lifesaver with the fact that they are open 24/7. Professional and friendly staff and accommodation. safe and reliable business! Definitely would recommend.

Loved the theatre size and set up. Parking allowable for patrons using the facilities but only down point was that you could hear the sound of another studio being used during the show.

It looks more than a hotel than a hostel. it lacks some character. at the same time its super clean and the staff is friendly, especially the cleaning ladies. nice bed a hot showers!

Not that clean. But.. they were renovating at the time we stayed there and part of the bathrooms were already done, and these where the best ones I had used in every hostel I stayed in NewZealand

There were three of us in the room which was spacious. Wifi was available and there was a unisex sauna. They had a trendy cafe downstairs.

Free car park with huge place, but need more cleaning kitchen. Also staffs are kind but needs some concentrate people who were drunk people at night time.. Can’t sleep too much noise people.

The rooms are pretty small, but the staff is friendly. Wi-Fi costs $5/24 hours. Centrally located in town makes it easy to see the city by walking.

Best thing is that it's in the center of Christchurch. Good for one or two nights. Just hope that there is not a bus load of people there, mostly when there are Asians its very busy, noisy (don't know why they want to go true all of their plastic bags at like 6 in the morning (usually not to actually check out after). Also it"s difficult to use the kitchen, small and with big groups hard to get your dinner cooked. Hand and shower soap are hardly refilled. You have to pay for laundry, wifi etc. There are better options and would recommend looking at other places and their prices and what they offer.

The rooom was overpriced for this kinda hotel. I pay 130NZD for deluxe, twin bed. No Free internet, and the tv is very small. Mini kitchen for the whole visitor, looks very crowded in meal times... But the bathroom is ok, warm and cold water available. The room quite comfy, room heater available, also Confortable bed... You should bring electrical plug adaptor when visiting Australia and New Zealand

The place to stay for the best buck. Enjoyed the back packing atmosphere. Food wasn't the best. The gymn next door rocked. A little place for big travellers. Wifi was average

Handy place with backpackers accommodation along with a gym. Situated near the Christchurch CBD and Hagley Park along with the Avon River nearby with Antigua boat sheds offering punting along the River. Modern, clean with great staff and most buses will drop you off outside of the YMCA if you intend to stay there. Travel agent also located there in case you wish to book any flights or accommodation while in New Zealand.

Convenient location, 24/7 reception, efficient heaters, room services, cafe on ground floor. However, please not that Wi-Fi is not free here.

Hi I left YWCA today what an amazing place they give you a home while you wait for yours the staff there are awesome they do an amazing job they are kind understanding and have a heart so if you want to say anything bad don't bother as if it wasn't for the three ladies we would be living on the street you guys are awesome and I'm very greatfull for the opportunity to have a home while you wait for your home thanks so much Angela murray

Friendly staff. Good bathrooms and rooms. Kitchen is very small. Wifi is paid, but there is a cafe downstairs with free wifi.

Spent only 1 night but would prefer other options if I visit Christchurch the next time. Stayed in the first floor and had a lot of noisy neighbors, who were drinking in the common room till 10 PM. On the brightside, the floor had plenty of toilets and showers ! Hey, if drinking and partying is your thing, go for it !

Very Nice hostel. But we were There when the weather was cold. And Even With the electric Heater on it was still a bit cold. But awesome facilities

Worth the two nights spent here. Though we did have a problem with getting hot water, we were moved in the room right next door, the stay was worth it.

Pretty sure I came away with bed bug bites ... and wasn't impressed with the rank herbal smells especially when there are kids around.

Always populated with interesting tourists. The YMCA also has things like dance schools, art exhibitions, etc. Learn Ballet, Hip Hop or view a street art exhibition
