Reviews of Les Mills Taranaki Street
D.
Terrific, large-scale gym facility. Plenty of space and equipment.
The staff however seemed displeased to have me there. I felt genuinely unwelcome. The woman at reception however, was lovely as I left 🤷♂️
They do let you grunt when doing heavy reps. That’s something they have over CityFitness.
G.
I'm really enjoying Les Mills Taranaki and wished I joined years ago. The facilities are excellent and all the staff and class instructors have been so friendly and helpful. The classes have been a highlight for me, there's a big range and I've seen results quickly from going to a few GRIT and Bodypump classes a week.
R.
Good place to work out. Only issue is parking as there is no free parking unlike in Lower Hutt. But amenities are great.
N.
Excellent gym, just wish I could afford it!
K.
I love this gym. The facilities, the classes, the staff everything makes it totally worth it!! They even handled social distancing quite well during COVID. Been going here for almost 2 years and will continue to.
j.
Insanely good.... they gave me 30 days free trial. I had walked past many times but never ventured in, i have spent over 40 years in gyms arouund the world but this is outstanding and the staff are friendly and helpful i couldnt ask for better. Yes its more expensive BUT this gym represents excellent value for the money you pay. Thanks for the tour and break down of the multiple areas for training :-)
A.
This is my favorite les mills I've been to. So beautiful, so big. I love it, I rate it
A.
Great friendly people absolutely clean facilities, always a pleasure to enter these premises
P.
Very complete gym with lots of classes to offer. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The gym offers a great variety of classes and with the app, it is super easy to organise your routine and schedule your roster. Sometimes the room is too crowded making the workout difficult and very impersonal.
M.
Friendly staff, clean facilities. It's jam packed after work (as you expect) but I go at lunch-time and never have a problem getting the weights or area I want. There's a good boxing bag and functional training room there too. I don't do the classes but other members say they are good.
D.
This is my go to gym in Wellington. Really clean. Equipment is really good. and the staff and instructors are awesome!
V.
Great gym, has a girls only gym inside with lots of floor space and equipment. Staff are awesome, guy at the desk always puts a smile on my face at 5am. Classes are so great, instructors are really motivational. Pretty expensive though
A.
Out of all the gyms I've been to in Wellington, the size, equipment and space is fantastic and for the price, it's even better.
The one big criticism is their boxing class is just too heavily subscribed - There are just too many people for such a small space that it's pretty much impossible to box properly without hitting the person next to you.
Apparently the boxing class used to be in one of the bigger rooms which makes a lot more sense.
I also tried one of the Grit classes which I really didn't enjoy as it's not very user friendly, there was a mad rush into the room with everyone already knowing what they had to do and by the time I approached the equipment rack, there was nothing left for me so I just had to walk out.
If you're coming here for the gym, then you're in the right place - but if you're coming for the classes, you may want to sample them first.
G.
I like this gym a lot. I enjoy the dance classes and the trainers that teach them are great. They are always very enthusiastic and make you want to keep going and push harder. I always look forward to the dance class when Ella is teaching :)
N.
The gym is among the best in Wellington in terms of quality and availability of equipment, cleanliness, and crowd (although the patrons have a reputation for being a bit snooty and an annoying minority have the awful habit of not putting away their weights and/or equipment after use).
The place aims to please basically everyone in the fitness world, so whether you are training for strength, body building, doing cardio on machines, or just wanting to prance around to music in a class full of other people doing the same, this gym is for you! Well, as long as you're able and willing to pony up the cash.
The sauna is a nice bonus and is not too gross and neither are the showers. The latter even have soap dispensers provided, nice touch. Also, the staff keep the place tidy and smelling good!
A.
The best way to shake off the winter blues in Wellington!!! Smash out a high quality class at LM and come away feeling great 👍 The instructors are always friendly and on form to take your workout to the next level. Why train alone?!
D.
Large gym with great facilities, especially their large and well equipped bike studio with large projectors. Eye candy too lol
S.
Great gym. Super clean and spacious. Lovely staff. Loads of machines and spaces to choose from. I had an impression in my mind before I joined that it was going to be intimidating, but it’s the total opposite.
L.
A lot of facilities and equipment with big studio rooms for classes. Having a gym instructor is a plus for you to question the use of equipment & positions and ask for help whenever you want without hiring pricey personal trainer. Totally recommended if the membership fee is acceptable.
L.
Great gym with loads of options. Friendly staff and if you are looking for a personal trainer, I can definitely recommend Tim Signal. He is professional and motivating. He offers great work outs and makes you feel comfortable - totally worth it! Awesome service!
K.
Traveling thru Wellington for three weeks, I need a gym to finalize my prep for a major powerlifting competition back home. Les Milks Extreme has everything I needed, and much more. Gary was very helpful getting me into the right membership plan, and subsequently helping make the gym work for my unique needs. While there is a steady stream of people coming/going, I never had to wait to use a piece of equipment. Clean, convenient, and perfect for people visiting the city.
A.
Awesome gym. Pretty big and intimidating sometimes as they said before but yeah all big gyms are like this.
THE CAFE DOWNSTAIRS IS AMAZING. REALLY NICE SALADS AND FOOD and I was even able to buy pre made fresh meals for the whole week here. Soooo good!
Pd: would be nice if they opened until a little later
S.
I was strongly encouraged to join Les Mills because of the variety of classes compared to my old gym. I like the variety, the location, some instructors, and reception staff are pretty friendly. For what it is it's expensive and could be improved by playing upbeat music upstairs, more hair straighteners, more shelves in the showers, towels included in membership fee, women's changing room needs to be vacuumed more in the morning because women's hair falls out, and gym trainers who walk the floor need to be focused on who is new at the gym rather than just catching up with their mates.
D.
Always have a great workout at Les Mills. The staff are professional and friendly and always willing to give you a much needed spot or to offer technique advise. This is a big gym with everything you could possibly need. There are a few macho boof-heads like at any gym, but they are few and far between
B.
Like most things, you get what you pay for when it comes to gyms. I upgraded to Les Mills when I moved to Wellington and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The facilities are fantastic and Les Mills are continuously seeking to improve their excellent service.
N.
Great place. Good facilities. The atmosphere can be intimidating for new comers or those who are body-conscious. Staff are mostly welcoming at from desks but can be a bit standoffish in the gym floors. I have since stopped going here.
E.
Definitely ask for a tour! I got lost the first time I went in and almost didn't go back but after taking a tour it's now one of my favourite places to go, with friendly staff and virtually endless options for exercise. I'm yet to try the sauna but I love that it's there!
T.
Best gym in NZ!
S.
Great gym, great central location.
Four floors of gym space, fully equipped with a huge range of facilities and equipment, huge range of fitness classes. Cafe and chill out area on the ground floor.
Friendly staff and instructors.
C.
Big fan of this gym. Really friendly staff. As gyms go it’s intimidating but overall I really like it. It’s a big place and you can be pretty invisible quick.
J.
In my opinion Les Mills have the best exercise class range available for a gym. Great location, everything a gym needs - a swimming pool would be a nice addition however due to limited space I can see why they don't have one.
2.
Multi level gym that caters to almost everyone. Top floor has boxing ring :) great equipment for strength training and amazing classes to get the heart rate up. Fave gym in Wellington.
S.
Great gym, great staff, clean facilities
L.
Good gym with multiple areas / levels. Has punching bags. Quite expensive at $25 a week or $1300 a year when city fitness is only $364 a year
D.
The best instructors around but stop making workshop a bit more glamorous it's like doing any normal classes when Caroline Jenkins was around it was like having a party every three months miss the guys from Auckland too coming to Wellington
S.
Great space, never been there crowded and has good temperature control. Great ranger of equipment that is kept clean and regularly checked. Staff are always friendly when they great you, even at quarter to 6 in the morning.
R.
Really good gym as equipment is considered but just dont like all the stairs five stars for making us fit for climbing them lol.
N.
Great gym. Laid out in 5 floors. Cardio cinema and every machine you can think of. Free access for guests of West Plaza hotel.
m.
It's very good Gym, comfortable, sauna, classes, friendly staff, with all the equipments easy to workout and a cafe downstairs with seatings.
B.
Place is huge! Heaps of classes including spin at no extra cost. Just don't be one of those people who get a membership and don't turn up
A.
Pretty standard gym with a LOT of classes to choose from. However, it's packed all the time so make sure you get there early to get a spot!
S.
My favourite go to gym in Wellington, could have made use of the space better when going through renovation..quite disappointing there is a separate "womans gym" area, sexist tbh..especially at peak hrs it's difficult to use cables for example due to the large volume of people working out, could have used that space purely for cable equipment, but decided to keep an area for woman who want to work out with men around.. 🙄
T.
Best gym!! Best team, so friendly. And the best classes and facilities... what's not to love!
D.
Not a member but had to pick up my bib for around the bays and staff was quick and helpful!
Nice gym👍
A.
It's a health and fitness club with heaps of options and different floors with equipment and classes to cater for your fitness needs.. All you have to do is stop eating crappy food and exercise more often :)
M.
Excellent gym - not as large as Auckland City Les Mills but it has most of the equipment - highly recommended :)
n.
LesMills on Taranaki St just a awesome atmosphere positive vibes and a great gym to have you time alone or with friends...go check it out and meet the family at LesMills with a smile :)
C.
Refuel Cafe on site is awesome! Loads of paleo options and gluten free, dairy free, refined sugar free choices. The peanut butter cup and rocky road are delicious.
h.
The best gym in Wellington. 12 squat racks?!?! Nek lev.
B.
Huge gym with great facilities and staff. Classes are high quality and trainers are motivating.
J.
Fantastic facilities and awesome staff. Everything you could ever want in a gym.
H.
Quite ok gym but with really bad air conditioning. During peak hours there is no air to breath and it’s always so hot there.
A.
Plenty of equipment and space to work out compared to other gyms around town.
K.
Great variety of gear. Staff tend to be unfriendly and not genuine.
K.
Love it! The staff are so friendly and helpful. Very tidy areas but plenty of room to move around. Feel very welcomed
4.

u.

G.

C.

R.

Great and helpful staff, kept tidy.
H.

A.
Great gym and staff. The current renovations are a tad annoying
J.
You can't beat a clean gym with good staff.
