Really welcoming gym, instructor knew so much and I learned a lot, had some tough rolls but i Hope to be back again soon and learn some more techniques. Thank you whangarei BJJ team

Kids classes are so much fun, and kids can learn through playing and cooperating with others! It builds up their physical strength and discipline! Training atmosphere here is encouraging people to grow as members love to help and share what they have learnt to each other! Prof. James has more than 10 years experience in teaching and coaching BJJ, and also actively improve his skills and techniques! Check him out, he is easygoing, humble and technique-focused instructor. If you want to learn self defence and improve your body shape, you should drop in for a class - the first class is always free!

For the first time in my life, I feel like I have abs. I was new in Whangarei when I joined and immediately felt like I found a community here. James is a great instructor, helping newbies like me learn basics and coaching national champions in the same class. Always something to learn and always a great work out.

Been training at Whangarei BJJ with professor James for almost four years now. Amazing place to train and learn new skills. It's not something you can learn in a month or two, but anyone with a mindset to learn from their mistakes can do it. Thanks to James I have learned which style of BJJ works for me, and will continue to improve on that. Look forward to more years of training.

Great place to train! Good level of training partners and James is an excellent teacher. There is a great balance between stand up and ground work and I feel my game has vastly improved since training with him. The atmosphere at the club is really friendly and welcoming.

Tena koe, ko lee Kaire toku ingoa. I have trained under Professor James cherie at Mybjj HQ port rd for 3yrs. I enjoy Jujitsu for the physical well being and mental training. I've come from rugby and still seek a physical workout with low impact damage , and jitz provides a good balance of the physical with mental and an endless amount of learning and understanding . I find the adult classes have got a great bunch of men and women of a martial art where the egos are left at the door. I love jujitsu ,I would encourage anyone Male/female give it go. If you dont go you will never know.🤙👊💯

Fantastic club to be part of. Our two daughters started with MY BJJ Whangarei over 2 years ago and we cannot speak highly enough of the club and James. Our girls have grown in confidence in many areas since starting. James Cherrie is an amazing instructor and a great person to be a mentor to our children.

James is an amazing teacher. With nearly 20 years experience, he has great technical skills and is very open minded. Don’t hesitate to come and train with us.

I started training Jiu Jitsu with James, thanks to Matias and Wiltz, in September of 2012 on Okinawa Japan while stationed at Kadena Air Base. Starting Jiu Jitsu has been one of the best decision I’ve made in my life. Learning from James was awesome! He is really knowledgeable on both self defense and sport Jiu Jitsu. Although I haven’t trained with him in years I still keep in contact with him when I need help with my game. I hope to get over to New Zealand in 2020 to train at Whangarei BJJ, the best gym in New Zealand! I’d recommend James’s gym to anyone wanting to get in grappling.

Great team and coach which makes for an awesome atmosphere. Also if you're keen on getting in shape I started in January and so far have lost over 10kg. Definitely worth the commitment!

What an awesome place with such a welcoming band strong team to train with. I really appreciated how accommodating everyone was and how fun the class structure was. Will definitely stop back in the next time we are in town!

I’ve trained here for approximately 2 years, it’s a great Jiu Jitsu gym. Judo throws and wrestling takedowns are mixed in more than other gyms I’ve experienced.

Love this club. Great teacher and community of people. Excellent environment for kids to learn self-confidence, how to actually defend themselves and others, get fit, and make friends.
