This, out of the way establishment, is a hidden gem. In fact, being a bit off beaten track is part of its appeal. A true bikers haven/heaven. As well as relaxing at the bar and enjoying a tasty hog burger, you can also stay here overnight in the wood chalets. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the neighborhood or even if you aren't.

Helen is a great host. Meals done in good time, considering there was only one other staff member on. Bottled softdrinks were a bit pricey, as were the burgers; which, if more substantial & came with some chips on the plate, would be fine. A great biker themed pub, in an out of the way location with plenty of parking out front & cabins and an ablution block out the back with plenty of space for tenters as well.

Helen has invested in alot of novelties and necessities to cater to all visitors. It is a unique out of the way spot that is classic kiwi in its hospitality and simplicity. The bikers bar all riders will appreciate but also a great out of the way place for anyone to enjoy a stop and have a bite to eat with a cold one.....or two The perfect overnight base for your group ride to pitch a tent or hire a cabin with facilities. The fish n chips, Burgers And wedges are popular and the Bacon and Eggs by arrangement will sustain your days ride ahead. Food and drinks are priced to enjoy! Not for the fussy, for those who can enjoy cruisey!

Not quite what I had in mind, but my fault for not checking. Cool place

Found this place by accident because Google thinks it's a restaurant. There is basic food, but it's definitely a pub. It's a pub with tyre marks left by motorbike burnouts at the bar. And that gives the place some real character - along with a couple of bikes parked inside and about 2000 trophies for dog shows. We were welcomed by the Black Dog's dog, which was surprisingly beige. Helen, the owner of both the Black Dog and the beige dog, is an excellent host and awesome to yarn to. She was probably surprised to have visitors as we were the only ones there, although a crowd of one local popped in for a quick beer and a natter. Oh and I was allowed a go on the pub drum kit, which is never a bad thing, unless you have to listen to me play. We found this by accident, but we will return on purpose.

This place has an awesome atmosphere and great back story. We enjoyed some fish and chips and burgers, good value and decent taste.

Lots of space for a big gathering like this weekend at Unwanted 10th anniversary. Cute cabins and shower/toilet amenities.

Thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Black Dog Tavern and the service was very good and the meal excceptional. Many thanks to the relieving barmaid that was on duty Queens Birthday.

What a great experience friendly & welcoming. Great burgers & fish & Chips. Highly recommend.

Real back country NZ Pub, very popular with motor bikers. We stayed at the domain and wandered over to see about having a meal, but the place was crawling with flies. Maybe country folk and bikers don't mind, but unfortunately for us, it does. Large outdoor areas and would be great place to hold a very loud party as there's not many neighbours to upset.

A unique spot with a friendly easy going atmosphere. Very good value and the landlady is a great character.

A great country scenic drive. Lovely customer service for the one staff member working, exceptional multitasking skills managing the bar and kitchen simultaneously with a great smile and demeanour.

Awesome Hosts! Great music, fantastic food, Indoor to Outdoor cozy & entertaining venue to enjoy. For real genuine down to earth Kiwi mates and family orientated. Got a chance to sing 2K18 out! To a huge Kia Ora & Churr to 2019!
