Rooms are gorgeous, very clean too. Good folk, helpful. It was warm and the fans did not quite keep us cool. Some very noisy cars outside and single glazing. But it got very quiet at around 11 pm.

Dude behind the bar is awesome, fast, efficient and friendly even though Friday night was busy.. Dinner was amazing. Cheesy garlic bread best ever. Lamb rump. Perfectly cooked, tender and tasty. Bottle of wine to share. Wife had sticky doughnuts for entree. First time she's been quiet! You gotta try it just once. Her words 'the tuna meal is amazing, perfectly seared and tasty other bits on the side'

Had dinner on Sunday night & breakfast on Tuesday. Friendly & efficient staff. Meals were absolutely delicious both times. Loved the old-style booths providing privacy & separation in these Covid times, along with well spaced wooden tables in the centre of the floor. Polished wooden tables and reception & bar area were just beautiful. Totally loved it!

Lovely place, food was well presented. Nothing was an issue for the staff who managed our large table of 20 for breakfast with ease. The food was incredible, Miss 5 got a bowl of fries for breakfast....yes i know...and what a large bowl of fries it was! Master 5, hubby and I were extremely happy with our brunches, and the price was resonable. Definately recommend for any occassion!

Just had a really great dinner … steak was excellent with perfectly cooked spring vegetables; the tuna - likewise with heaps of quality olives and capers, and the pork belly - Yummy!! Friendly service too.

Dishes between $12 and $36, also with a small plate menu, a children's menu and a really good selection of standard and craft beer and cider, some classic gastro pub wines as well as a few really nicely selected ones to go with the top range meals as well. All meals made to order, they can be made to specific dietary requirements, gf, v etc. For the last meals we had; the chicken salad with crumbled camembert is always a good bet. The chowder was well seasoned and tasty, the roast chicken delicious but my gosh the NZ pork...fantastic, the flavours across all the components harmonious and that touch of balsamic brilliant. The crackling light, seasoned and easy to cut and eat which delighted me. The meals were so filling that we opted for iced coffee after, so as to have both dessert and coffee lol The food was quick enough to come to the table but gave us just enough time for a catch up and to eat some of the scrumptious cheesy garlic bread. The decor and atmosphere is lovely, with historical touches to add talking points. A go to place in Wanganui.

Very busy for a Monday night, probably because of the Masters Games, and the fact that they took the time to be open. Had a HUGE burger, pretty bland tasting patty but lots of flavour in everything else. Shame my beer wasn't very cold though

Had a fantastic meal at the Rutland Arms Inn this evening. The walnut and beetroot Israeli couscous salad was just delicious. Very happy to see that they had put a lot of effort into their vegan options. Service was great also.

Lovely atmosphere. Haven't been for years but went last week with my bestie. The food was delicious. Staff were great and tables appropriately spaced out. Sometimes some restaurants they jam as many tables and chairs in and there is no space. The only thing I didn't like was the noise but it was a smaller room for dining area so expected.

The wait for food @ dinner here can be very long as Chef Sam has limited support and the restaurant is very popular. To avoid the wait we ordered in advance, using their online menu. Well.... What can I say... Out of the blue you find a hotel chef who takes care of his presentation and high ability it to cook... Even boucj the chef a drink try his simple menu. Lamb on a bed of risotto, but my fav wS his scallops with a clever dressing ginger caramel sauce!!!! Ours were cooked to perfection (I like roe, Cheri not so, 2 each...) heaven!!! Wish I took a photo.. Great staff all round.

Great to have a bit of heritage with lunch. Straight away I knew the name of the place from the step at the entrance I used. Walked past historical photos on the wall. Good range of lunch food choices in the cabinet plus a menu with more options. We sat on sturdy wooden chairs in a covered brick patio area and even though there was a large party out there the sound didn't carry. Our pot of tea-for-two arrived quickly. The vegetarian frittata was beautifully presented, nice to look at as well as tasty, with just the right amount of salad on the side. Extra relish was provided in a little dish. The ladies toilet was clean with handbasins in each cubicle, and an airdryer. Hand sanitiser was available at the entrance and on the menu counter.

I loved this place. We went here for a meeting over a coffee then stayed for lunch. Is a very cute place, reminds me of coronation street with the little nooks you can sit in. There is all sorts of memorabilia from the years on the walls...coasters, ashtrays, old pictures etc. Excellent service, parking right out the door, meals are lovely and priced well. Would definitely come back again. This pic is of the BLAT sandwich that also comes with a generous bowl of chips for $15.50

I go there all the time. I normally have two or three Peronis. Lovely. Bit expensive but the old saying about getting what you pay for is true. The atmosphere is friendly and warm. I dont normally have food unless I go with my wife or kids. When I go with my daughter Sinéad she has wedges. Very nice. Lamb shank is beautiful. They do a beef fillet thing in the evenings which is amazing. Tiny criticism. Not really a criticism actually, more of a suggestion. I love that particular dish and wish I could order it during the day as I very rarely go there after 5pm. There's probably a good logistical reason behind it. Anyway top food, top drinks, top location, top atmosphere and last but most definitely not in the slightest bit least, TOP PEOPLE!

In the heart of Wanganui standing alongside heritage buildings is a cosy English bar with a restaurant and accommodation. Throughout the bar there is memorabilia from days gone by consisting of bed pans and old bottles, horse reins which hang from the ceiling. Historic photos adorn the walls telling stories of Wanganui’s heritage. Eye capturing porcelain tap beer handles are used to pour the varied beers on offer. English Boddington beer is served and a beer selection can be brought to taste the different beers. The meals are generous portions and at reasonable prices. You can enjoy a drink or meal outside served by the friendly staff. Great place for after work drinks.

Great food and drink. Generally good staff as we would go every 2 wks. But now we wont. Had a stoush with staff unfortunately cause my son was not able to have a beer. They asked if he was 18 I said no (i guess that kinda means that I had an interest in what he was doing) - no other questions asked just told by the chap that they could not serve him. After they left I checked google and thought hold on ..if u are the parent he can have alcohol. It was his bday and 17 so my fam.went for dinner there...so he ordered a raspberry lemonade Instead. They bought all drinks out and then not his rasp lemonade....I thought oh for F sake and went to bar said we missed his drink..that's when they went off. I said the raspberry lemonade...not the Corona he wanted but tell me about the serving law as I'm the parent.wow did the duty m.go off! I said I was the parent but instead I was told how can they prove that. I argued the point and naturally the lady night manager got pissed....as I would too. But at the end of the day, if they said yes that's fine...or please answer these questions originally when he asked at the table for a corona then all good - but oh no what a fracas and I dont back down...instead the fight was on. 4 stars for food and it is a good pub ..just the customer was not right. Next time I shall bring my birth certs for the family and passports. DNA profile and dust off old family album. Actually there wont be a next time.for us..when u do table service ask the right questions instead of flatly no then walking off..then the attitude and spilling it all on me with a face of daggers and making a scene in front of a packed place that it's my fault. Stopped in on our way back to Wellington after a couple of soggy days here in New Zealand. I chose the filet as the fig and coffee sauce filet sounded really good. My only disappointment was that it was gone all too soon! Super tender and the flavor was not only delicious but interesting. All i can say is you gotta try it! Tried the blueberry tart for dessert. It's dairy free so was a little sceptical as to how it would taste. Pleasantly surprised, but am still confident the best blueberries n the world come from Michigan! Service was very good as well with super friendly and helpful staff. Definitely a huge plus as I've found the service in New Zealand to be somewhat lackluster at times. Price was very reasonable as well. I really like the dinner menu here and will be back to try some of the other selections next time I'm in Wanganui!

Best craft beer in town! If you come to Whanganui this place is a must go. It is a very old building that remember why Whanganui is one of the oldest city in NZ. Try the manuka honey beer. Price is fine.

Lovely restored room in the centre of of Whanganui. If you want all the mod cons, this is not for you, but if you enjoy old world charm, you have found a nice room. Jacuzzi was wonderful, shower, nice and warm but only includes a shower curtain in the corner but it worked just fine.
