Excellent place to shop for DIY needs, basically all Hardware bits and pieces can be found. Friendly and helpful team member. Whole store is clean and tidy. Amazing shelving system, easy to find what I want.

Staff at the BBQ section are always grumpy. The two men. Don't dare ask them something. They grumble all the time. Staff around aisles 49 are fantastic. Always helpful.

Most staff are friendly. Good range of hardware that's got both high spec and everyday price options. I recommend it but not for nuts and bolts they are overpriced. Didn't like hearing the store manager telling off his female staff member for her lack of a safety vest. If he feels the need to lecture his staff he should do that out of public view. Taking one star off for that.

Moved to NZ from Australia almost 2 years ago. Bunnings was my go to, but quickly realised Mitre10 Mega here was the best. Spent around 15k at Rangiora before being told that Hornby (as well as Papanui & Beckenham) accept AMEX. The highest paying Airpoints card. I blindly drove, except for one shop for a Makita drill shell & bamboo plant months ago, past this store, at least once a fortnight. What a mistake. I did a dummy run on sanding & staining a menu stand at Hornby and said I knew nothing. I knew what I needed but far out, what a proactive bunch of staff. The next 15k will be spent here at Hornby. Well done Nicole in marketing for introducing me to a network of Mitre10s that accept AMEX and well done Hornby team for actually being what a hardware store should be. What a bunch of legends. By the way, I bought the sandpaper, the 5L deck stain, the brushes etc. I did need them. Thank you!

Called into the Store to replace my nonworking Pond Pump. Thanks to the knowledgeable staff Lee & Wendy in the irrigation dept. Who were interested in why the pump wasnt working, they took the pump apart found a small piece of grit that was the issue in it not working. Easy fix & Saved me $100. They also gave me a lesson on how to keep the pump clean. Thanks ☺️👍

Not only does mitre 10 mega Hornby have a massive selection at very competitive prices, lovely coffee shop with indoor & outdoor seating, it has amazingly friendly staff who are actually happy to help. If you need advice they are knowledgeable and they ensure you have all the advise & help they can give. NOTHING IS TOO MUCH TROUBLE...Unbelievable..all the staff should be so proud of themselves.

The stores here, including Mitre 10 are very nice, and staff are friendly. But I avoid this shopping centre because the parking lots are so poorly designed. There are many one-way paths and very few ways to exit the parking areas. So few, that there is usually a large que of cars just trying to escape. You almost need google maps to find your way out of the parking lot!!!

Quick and easy to shop for some landscaping timber. The team helped load everything on quickly and efficiently. Great advice from the team and great to have some reminders to extra things I will need to get the job done. This is my local hardware store. Been here a number of times. Never had a problem. A staff member is always at the door to welcome you in and assist you. Pricing is very competitive and they are very good the their price beat guarantee. Nice layout of the shop, aisles have plenty of room. There is a cafe located inside the shop next to the kids playground.

We went late on a Saturday afternoon (19 May) asking a lot of (inexperienced) questions about shower mixers, taps and plumbing as we sourced tapware for our bathroom renovations. We were helped by John in the plumbing department who was knowledgeable, patient, helpful and very funny. It was a real pleasure talking to someone who had both the the knowledge and the patience to help out! We ended up buying some taps and other items based almost entirely on John's help (this was the third store we'd been to) so a huge well done to John and a big thank you for all the help!!

My experience on South Island so far is that Mitre10's in general have friendlier staff and know their stuff. The one to top it is Hornby branch, almost every time a staff member passes you they greet

First I will start off with saying that this is a great store with MANY great helpful, friendly & knowledgable staff. I always find what Im looking for here, especially with their help at times. On another note I have had a disappointing (1/5 star rating) experience too with one of the staff members. I had to return an item that I didnt need. It was stiĺl brand new & not used. The female staff member at the 'Customer Service' desk who looked annoyed gave me what she said was a gift card (inside the folded cardboard) with the refunded money in it. I didnt think to check & put it straight into my wallet. After few weeks or so later on I thought I could use it before the expiry date written on it so I went back to the same store. I picked out an item & took it to check-outs. Turned out it was empty, as in there wasnt any gift card attached. I explained to the check-out operator how I got it. She didnt believe me. Felt like I was fooled. Tried to look for the staff member who had given me that card but I guess she wasnt working that day. I still like the store but now I just avoid approaching the red-headed female staff member

Frustrating shopping experience at Mitre 10 Hornby garden section. Went there for a specifically promoted product only to chase numerous staff - who either didn't know what I was talking about, struggled with english or just dismissed me by saying I think it's somewhere over there. I only discovered 15 mins later (after asking 4 different staff members) that it was sold out. I was more patient than normal given that I went there Saturday of busy Labour weekend. Felt like I was an inconvenience when asking a Manager for assistance, as she delegated me to another staff member (who was already helping someone else) The Manager just deflected and said she'll come and help you next. Waited around for 10 mins and the staff member that was directed to help me obviously forgot and walked straight passed me. When I asked her about the product, she said it was sold out. Suggest that they have a promotions board displayed at the entry points to the garden section. This would be helpful with referencing a promoted or featured products. Suggest Mitre 10 label the board clearly as sold out to avoid time wasting for both the customer and staff. Discovered a tiny booth half way into shopping that would have been more useful (if made bigger) and as mentioned earlier, at the entry points. Overall, rubbish shopping experience! I hope to return in future (at a quieter time) to see what (if anything) has improved. Otherwise, may ditch in future for Bunnings. Update 31/10/19: Originally gave this a 1 star review but have re-visited Mitre 10 Hornby today and based on this experience have changed to a 3 star review. Staff member at Customer Service desk could have been more engaging. Didn't say a word when I got there or when I left. I just appeared and she handed over what I asked for. Visited the garden section today and significant improvement in our shopping experience. The signage looked to have been improved as well. It could quite possibly be that it was always like this but I may not have noticed when I'd been their last (Saturday of Labour weekend). Nice, relaxing stroll around the garden area. Lots of good fruit and vege plant selections to choose from. A good variety of other gardening products there too. The specials were great and I ended up spending more money than I'd planned to. Lauren at checkout provided fantastic friendly, polite customer service. Great job Lauren! You'd be a great example for showing others how it should be done. We'll be back!

I can see why the Hornby Branch has done so well. All the staff I have found very friendy over the years this makes you want to purchase. Huge selection by New Zealand standards and generally friendly and helpful staff. They helped me track down a rare runout log burner model even though that meant I bought it from a different store. One very nice bonus is their large range of screws, nuts and bolts of all kinds and sizes that can be bought loose, so just the number one actually needs. Most other DIY stores don’t offer that.

Mitre 10 is a pretty good place to buy stuff 😁 & that stuff can range from a front door mat to the latest drill with extra torque to plywood & most other things you need in the building or fitting out of your dream home. I don't think there's too much they dont sell, need a garden they've got it how about a barbi yea can do that as well but no 🥩! Well it's a hardware store after all. The service is very good & the staff are pretty knowledgeable, all the stuff, (theres that word again), is well set out in aisles that are numbered & also have a sign telling you what stuff is likely to be in this particular aisle or row. All up a good store to get stuff & if you are peckish then get a hot sausage most weekends outside the store itself.🙂

Always have plenty of stock and a greeter is always on hand to help out. Sometimes, during quiet periods it seems there are more staff than customers. In the aisles so if you can't find what you want, you don't have to go far to ask.
