Reviews of E. Hayes And Sons
W.
We were recommended to come here by a local we met on our travels. It is a hardware and homeware store, where there are classic motorcycles and cars scattered throughout the store. You can see the original "The World's Fastest Indian" bike here. All FREE, although you can always buy something
K.
What a surprise awaits unsuspecting customers. Olde world hardware to top decor pieces.
But that is not why we visited ........ this is the home of Burt Munro vehicles and eclectic collection of iconic cars, bikes and machinery.
The stands are juxtaposed with goods for sale. We also found a sales assistants with vast knowledge of the displays.
J.
Nothing g short of amazing. The mix of artifacts with retail display takes a bit of getting used to. Comprehensive labels and captions give context to exhibits. Not just Bert Munro pieces....there are lathes, tools, lawn mowers, tool displays.
A.
Like heaven, tools, diy, bikes, cars, history and coffee, what more does one need on a rainy or any other day really.
J.
A really interesting place from hardware too gifts too antique old cars bikes tools and then modern gift shop oh and there is a Cafe in the middle
S.
UN. Believe. Able.
I WISH we had something so passionate in our town.
To walk amongst an operational Hardware store, and have your attention pricked by The Original Indian, or Burt Munro’s Piston Collection, or a Rotary Motorbike, is just insane. Right next to the taps and washers 😂.
There is NO way you can come to Invercargill, and not come here.
And it’s free.
Stop it!
At least grab s drink and a cheese roll from the instore cafe.
10 ⭐️
C.
This store has kindly found room to display the Burt Munro bikes etc & vintage bikes & cars! No charge to look around 😊
R.
Great shop plus if you want to see Burt's Indian motor cycle that's where to go
R.
Great museum pieces in the shop. Both the original World Fastest Indian & the replica used in the movie are on display.
#burtmonroe #anthonyhopkins #worldsfastestindian
W.
Best shop ever.
Old and New Motorcycles. Harleys, Hondas, Indians and Triumphs.
Massive Chainsaw.
You'll also see offerings to the gods of speed.
D.
I thought going to what is in fact a local hardware shop would be just like visiting any hardware shop. I was completely wrong. Great place to visit with all the vintage motorcycles and other vehicles there to be viewed. All at no additional cost. The staff were very informative as well. Would visit again and highly recommended.
C.
Awesome if you are into a bit of motorbike history that even has Burt Munro's, Indian on show.
Some great old bits of machinery as well.
If you are after tools, great hardware shop and nice, friendly staff
M.
Great place to visit. Awesome friendly staff.
S.
What a collection of vintage motorbikes!!! Amazing! A must see for any enthusiast and of course there is the whole Burt Monroe history and 2 of his bikes as well. Really enjoyed it...a sales person (lovely gentleman) spent some time with me and gave me a bit of history lesson - which was fantastic.
S.
Awesome collection of vintage bikes, race cars and gift shop. The workwear section held a great selection of clothing... the young gentleman (Mark)? Had such a huge knowledge bank on the numerous bikes. So interesting.
N.
Friendly and helpful staff. Usually have what Im looking for. Great trade staff who know their work. lovely gift shop to boot. Cafe in here is just O..K for a much needed seat and coffee but if you don't mind a just a few feet up the road I'd scoot to global byte.
R.
Best store ever. Not just because of the cars, motorcycles, the fabulous Bert Munro exhibits No, because this store has an amazing range of tools, hardware and home wares, all displayed with care, humour and even love.
H.
More than just a hardware store! It's a lovely gift shop and home of the E Hayes Motorworks collection. The exhibit to see, is the Burt Munro's 1920 Indian. Worth a visit even if you are not crazy about bikes.
B.
What a fantastic display of motor bikes and classic cars . Could not believe there was no entry charge for this . Suggested a gold coin donation to various local charities .The gift shop was awesome . Definitely making a return visit on our way vack from Stewart Island
G.
Found what I needed from the way things were laid out and labels on the racks. I was buying a socket and an adaptor for a torque wrench. The woman at the counter advised me what the best use was.
A.
Absolutely Amazing place with the Indian Scout that Burt Munro did his land speed record on. And many other cool motorcycles and cars. Also worlds fastest Indian movie props.
J.
If you are interested in Burt Monroe history come here so so cool some of his bikes and lots of his failures and equipment he used to perfect his bikes have been donated here by burt munroe.
Lots of quirky gifts for loved ones but for me the highlight was Burts replica vehicles from the actual movie 'the fastest Indian'
Worth a look!
R.
It was a massive surprise walking into the store and see the extensive motorcycle display a incredible look at some of NZ motorcycle racing history, oh yeah they also sell tools lol
N.
This shop is great for gifts or handyman items. Easy to spend an hour in there. We'll worth the visit
M.
Great place to see a bit of history in the shape of motorcycles, some old vehicles, wheelchairs, cash registers and various old tools and all free of charge. A trading Hardware Store while also a great tourist destination. We specifically came to Invercargill to visit this store and my husband was not disappointed. I had noticed the odd change since my first visit in 2012 but overall it was still great! Parking was good too. I was able to park reasonably close, out the back, for free for two hours and there was only one step to negotiate to gain access. Also, there was toilets on site.
s.
Best place to enjoy FREE views of classic motorcycles, and Burt Monroe's worlds fastest indian....great columbus cafe, toilets and general hardware store. Good undercover parking too.
M.
This is the real home of Burt Munroe and now has a Columbus coffee bar to make the experience even more enjoyable.Best of all you can look at the large selection of bikes and cars for free.Photos show pop up display of current Indian motorcycles outside E Hayes and Sons during the Burt Munro
a.
Pleasantly surprised to find an extensive collection of classic bikes including Burt Munroes Indian Scout and The Fastest Indian memorabilia
C.
One of those must visit places great hardware store with a cool museum like collection of cars and bikes.
D.
Such an array of historic memorable auto mobiles and bikes on display. You'll want to bring your camera when you visit here. Very very cool
T.
Odd at first but I guess Mr Hayes bought the bike or inherited it so he has the right to display it but it's great to see Burt Munro's Indian displayed to all for free. This is a hardware store with a motorcycle museum built inside! There are heaps of other motorcycles to see too sprinkled across the store.
m.
Amazing display of vintage cars and classic motorcycles mixed in with all the hardware for sale. Includes the worlds fastest Indian and lots of Beer Munro stuff.
R.
Great place, plenty of variety and almost a bike museum on top of it all. The home of the fastest indian
j.
Brilliant place with so much
Love seeing all the old stuff and burt Monro bike
O.
My favorite hardware store in the world! Home of Burt Munros original motorcycle, aka. The Worlds fastest Indian!
I.
Very nice place to pick up your hardware things. And look at all the old bikes and cars.
M.
This is a must see when Invercargil its not just a shop its a Museum . Awesome
F.
Fantastic idea to include classic and vintage motorcycles as part of the shop. Huge collection of interesting bikes including Bert Munro's Indian Scout.
A.
This is probably the best shop in New Zealand. It's all there.
I'm sure there were other things to see and places to go in Invercargill, but I ran out of time and only saw the inside of this classy place. That good!
R.
The vintage displays are cool and the clearance deals of hardware goods were good
J.
Staff so friendly, go to see the Indian and leave with a Swandri. Great customer service.
S.
Great place lots to see .very friendly people
M.
Invercargill is full of treats like this. Amongst all the regular hardware you can see the Burt Munro collection including "The World's fastest Indian" and much, much more. Easily a couple of hours in here and then a very decent coffee next door.
J.
Awesome store great products and placed around the store cars bikes memorabilia great place too visit awesome staff
D.
Great offer to walk in and admire a great collection of motorcycles spread throughout the extensive store.
The store offers traditional handyman tools and equipment. Camping equipment along with tramping gear. Homeware and giftware.
Unusual is the memorabilia items for the Burt Monroe fastest Indian.
A
Hammer Hardware shop too.
C.
Our second visit and have enjoyed it just as much. There is something for everyone

M.
If you love vintage motorcycles you have to visit. Resting place of the world's fastest Indian and so many more.
P.
Fantastic hardware store with products most don't carry. Also a great place to see bunch of old classic motorcycles and farm machinery. A southern legend
n.
Awesome hardware store with added bonus of some very cool motorcycles and cars.
H.
this place is amazing. make sure you ask for the history of the worlds fastest indian. it’s a real insight into the history of the industry in new zealand and these guys have the inside story! awesome
G.
Got most of what you'd need but its expensive and because of the prices here it isnt my first choice of hardware stores. However they do have a few harder to find things and some of the Hammer Hardware specials arent to bad. It is also good for a look around however.
s.
What an awesome hardware store, the best I've ever been in, what a fantastic tribute to Burt Munro, you rock Hayes whanau
C.
An amazing shop to spend an hour or two. You will find things here you won't get anywhere else and you can now have a break at the in-house cafe
D.
Great shop that alot of time can just disappear in. Alot to browse through and really interesting displays spread all through the shop. Great knowledgeable staff and iv been going there since I was a kid with my dad. Well worth a visit even if you don't want to buy anything
A.
I have dreamt of seeing the old Indian Spirit of Munro for years now and it did not disappoint
C.
A totally unique experience. Not only does it house the unique, original, legendary Burt Munro 1920 Worlds Fastest Indian but also Burt's (Herbert to be correct) Velocette along with the contents of his shed.
Surrounding that exhibit however is around 100 unique motorcycles and motorcars. To visit is free during normal store hours and the shop carries unique range of souvenirs.
That is only part of the need to visit. E Hayes & Sons is a fully operational hardware unlike any I have seen those n my world travelling. I would say if Bunnings,Mitre 10,Home Depot etc don't carry it then E Hayes & Sons will.
The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
The range of goods stocked includes not only the hardware range but homeward and New Zealand souvenirs. Just realised I gave them a 5 star that really means it impressed me as I do literally hundreds of reviews and can't recall a 5 before!
T.
An excellent range of old and older motorbikes, including Burt Munro's record breaking Indian.
M.
Fantastic display of history. Beautiful shop and very friendly and helpful staff
T.

An amazing experience shopping in this delightful store filled with the old and the new...
S.
A really well provisioned hardware shop with the unique addition of a really interesting collection of vintage motorcycles. What if all shops did something like this?
C.
Interesting location, Had a great time looking at the tools and the bike's!
K.
This was a nice little surprise that we stumbled upon. The lady at the I-Centre was really helpful when we stopped in. We honestly had no idea what to do in Invercargill but this little museum was pretty cool! To be completely honest it was a tiny bit confusing to find, being a museum incorporated into a fully functioning hardware store? That was odd and threw us off a bit but, I actually really enjoyed that they set it up this way. It added a nice little charm ☺️
T.
See the genuine Worlds Fastest Indidian along with heaps of other cool old bikes!
R.
A great shop and display of the fastest Indian and old cars and motorcycles.
J.
Great array of old motorcycles and particularly Bert Munro's
P.
Huge collection of motor bikes of all ages
A must see
D.
Definitely worth visiting to check out the old school shop and motorcycles
E.
Lovely, expansive store with interesting museum pieces to view while you shop. What a great idea, 15/10! Great cafe too, with amazing Southland cheese rolls!
J.
The home decor section I could go broke in. The cafe has great coffee and food. The staff will gift wrap your gifts free of charge. An awesome place to shop and to see all the old bikes at the same time. Good if you want to bring out the inner child.
J.
Great food & an awesome shop to browse in. They have everything
B.
Museum and general store all in one. Check out the motorcycles and other equipment. Good for hardware and automotive junkies :)
P.
An absolutely brilliant company. Everything you need with genuinely helpful staff. Wish we had one in Auckland.
A level above the likes of Mitre10 and Bunnings.
R.
Best hardware store I've ever seen, great range of bikes and cars, really enjoyed the experience.
E.
We were recommended to visit by a local And were so surprised by how huge the display was in the store. Motorcycle, chainsaw and other machinery on display was very impressive. Would definitely recommend!
S.
Great coffee lounge, gift shop and displays of autos, cycles and motor bikes. Spent over an hour here and could have spent longer.
H.
What an amazing display of bikes and memorabilia from Burt Munro's collection. Spent some time enjoying the display and then a spot of shopping. Staff were helpful and very friendly. Highly recommend ☺️
C.
Amazing shop. Has so many aspects to it. Hardware, kitchenware, gift ware, a Cafe and at the mo a Christmas area.
A.
I think this might be the best hardware store in New Zealand! It has a fantastic range of hardware items for sale, more so I think than many of teh big-box stores. My guess is that the people of Invercargill have serious workshops and buy a bit more, bigger, & better tools than the average handy person. And there is of course the fact that this store is also in effect a museum with an cool array of cars and motorbikes on display, including the classic Bert Munro vehciles.
P.
The most unique Hammer Hardware in NZ. Some of the most treasured motorbike and tool memorabilia that you will ever see within the vast family-owned shop. Allow a minimum of 2 hours to walk through. Grab a coffee at Columbus Cafe while you are there.
B.
A great piece of historical Invercargill, with something for everyone. Staff are friendly and really helpful. You can see they love their Job.
V.
Always great to visit this place. Frendly service. Clean shop.
C.

J.
Heaps of bikes to admire and enjoy. Highly recommended for bikers, history lovers and rev heads. Very interesting.
N.
This store has everything under one roof. A joy to visit even if you don't need anything.
B.
Fascinating old stuff, and you can buy individual screws 🙂
K.
Great place ! Lots of Munro items here and what a variety of stuff !
N.
Absolutely incredible, the store has everything you could need. Its the sort of hardware store we used to have, a store where you can purchase parts to fix an item rather than just replacing it. Then on top of all of that the Burt Munroe stuff blows your mind. I will definitely be back.
M.
Love it. 2nd bonus in town. Burt Munro and motor bike whos who. Not the scope of transport museum but still took a couple of hours.
Not a bike fan but a pleasure. Maybe I could help shift the Viper ☺☺.
Back home tomorrow. Thankyou.
H.
Absolutely enjoyed my time there today. Will be back again and most likely spend the day there looking at everything properly. Well worth the visit
J.
Such an interesting and eclectic collection of local and not so local. If you like racing motorbikes or old machines it's a must visit
A.
All my respect for the owner and the management. This is probably one of the world most wicked exhibition. I love it. Displaying a piece of history in an working hardware store... what a brilliant idea. Gold coin donation is optional, however I'd encourage everyone who visit there to be generous. Well worth it.
B.
Incredible display and collection of motorbikes and Burt Munro the fastest Indian collection. All free.
S.
I needed several tools which added up to quite a price, as they are quality brands at a good price. The staff were excellent and extremely help and knowledgeable. Highly recommended 👌
P.
Always a good look, when in Invercargil. The vintage vehicles and machines , are always a pleasure too view.
R.
You cannot pass through invecargill without a visit to this amazing shop. Memorabilia abounds including the world's fastest Indian and a large number of other motorcycle and cars. Keep looking for the old tools, quirky nuts and bolts plus ➕ +. Take the time and make time to visit it will not disappoint.
S.
Easy to get the tape I needed. Prompt service.
K.
You can buy here something for new born, as well to for kitchen and to do small work around vehicles and house. And of course see The Fastest Indian
D.
Ita always a pleasure to vist E Hayes at anytime but during the Burt Munro week the shop becomes a major attraction.
f.
Very nice to visit. Besides a store it looks like a museum.
M.
Definitely worth a visit. A cafe, interesting cars and motorbikes displayed in the shop - including some of Burt Munro's. They also sell a wide variety of hardware and giftware items.
S.
Great place to Visit and see Burt Munro memorabilia. We enjoyed seeing everything about Burt's life. All the different motorbikes were amazing to see.
J.
It's a hardware store. It's a motorbike museum. It's a hardware store... A seriously huge hardware store in the main st of Invercargill. It has everything, including owners who are passionate about motorbike racing, engineering and memorabilia. See Burt Munro's original Vincent and, of course, the world's fastest Indian here. Talk to the staff, and get your hardware and rev head needs met.
A.
Best hardware store in NZ and so much more. Worth a visit for all the vintage cars and motor bikes alone.
Talking to the staff I got the feeling they really know their stuff. Wish we had something like this where we live. Have to make do with Bunnings and Mitre 10.
C.
The best hardware store ever. From the ability to buy a single bolt or viewing Burt Munro's Indian, it's always a pleasure to visit this shop
m.
Huge retail area, well set up for Burt Munro's week, with bikes brand new and old, to ancient, lot's of people in the shop too.
P.
This is the most amazing combination of Hardware come museum anywhere. The Staff were wonderful and prepared to go out of their way to assist you. Best experience ever. Loved the bikes and machinery.
P.

A.
Would have liked to spend longer but on a tour time is limited
n.
Great collections of motor bikes, cars plus shop..loved the fastest indian...great place for fans of Burt Munro ..
J.
There are a lot of items that you stock that other outlets don't. So now if it's not the run of the mill then it's a good chance that u've got it.
J.
Good shop lots off variety but it badly needs an upgrade.
V.
A hardware shop to have made it into a Lonely Planet guidebook. Friendly staff, good selection of quality items and some old motorcycles including the actual one on which the late Burt Munro broke the world speed record. Highly recommend and I will definitely visit again.
T.
Well worth a visit. If you are local, a great tool and d I y store. If you are a visitor what amounts to a free motorcycle museum which includes Bert Munro bikes ( The Worlds Fastest Indian)
T.
Great layout of shop and cool motorbikes all around the shop. Lots of interesting bikes and amazing tools for all activities. Lovely, friendly, staff.
Good Burt Munro gift items.

j.
Awesome shop and the added bonus is the motorbikes
B.
Free displays of motorbikesand parts. Well stocked hardware store and gift shop. Columbus cafe in gift shop with good coffee and snacks
K.
Great store, friendly staff. The floorplan of this store gives the customers and staff room to move around displays, not like a lot of other shops that have very skinny aisles, well done management and staff of E. Hayes & Sons. Grand local knowledge. And the displays of vintage and veteran cars and motor cycles is great, the original Burt Munro's world's fastest Indian motorcycle, is an asset to the store.
P.
Best hardware store in the southern hemisphere, with one of the best motorcycle collections I've seen including the world's fastest Indian.
E.
Best hardware store in the world? Great to be able to look at all of the bikes on display for free. Also has a good cafe now.
S.
Friendly store that will more then meet all hardware needs and has such a community spirit. Just loved the displays of old motor bike, car racing and hardware spaced through out the store. Well worth a visit.
R.
What a magnificent place anything you could want motorbikes by the dozens along with bert monroes speed record bike
J.
Great place to visit for a taste of Munroe motorcycle history
N.
Very worthy of a stop . Huge hardware store with every imaginable thing you could think of needing. Lots of historical items and artifacts and Burt Munros Indian motorcycle from the World's Fastest Indian .Save a couple of hours for this stop .Well worth it.
F.
Awesome cars and bikes. Good range of tools, gifts and stuff.
G.
A friend told me to visit and I was impressed with the variety of products and the museum pieces throughout the store including the world's fastest Indian.
C.
Great store to visit and learn about Burt Monroe and history making motorcycle.
G.
Amazing place. Definitely a must see if you are down this way and not just for the amazing bikes and cars (and of course Bert Munro's Indian Scout), but the hardware store itself is awesome.
E.
Friendly staff, great coffee... lovely shop lots of interesting things.
L.
Even if you aren't sure you don't like motorcycles there is plenty to see here at E. Hayes & Sons.
They have motorcycles on display as well as other interesting collections. Take some time to look at the hammer display. It will bring a smile to your face.
Of course there is the impressive Bert Munro motorcycles as well.
A.
Allways interesting to see Burt Munroes bike.
S.
My own personal experience I have found most of the staff friendly and helpful and my experiences with above fine however I DID have one experience with a staff member who couldn't be bothered was unhelpful, therefore walking out wondering if I wanted to go back.
F.
If you are into tools and beautifully crafted motorbikes, this place will not cease to amaze you. There is also a clothing section with nice merino items, notably cheaper than the iconic brands that can be found in touristic sport shops but nevertheless perfectly effective. Having bundled the shop and museum items is a brilliant idea. Bikers and mechanics fan, be prepared to drool!
A.
This is a hardware and gift shop with a nice surprise inside. There are old motorbikes and cars on display. There is no cost for looking around if you don't need hardware so makes a good hour visit for no cost..
C.
Always a pleasure to visit. Great displays. For the first time ever the size of vise I was after was out of stock.
L.
Great places spent hours there.
A.
Great museum in a hardware store lots of old motor bikes with Kiwi and international histories.Including but not limited to THE WORLDS FASTEST INDIAN.
P.
So cool to see Burt's bike in there, and so many more! Cool store also and I feel like you can buy pretty much anything there!
M.
It's like going through a museum without having to pay an entrance fee. Some great old motorcycles and other vintage equipment.
K.
But Monroe motorcycle and other things. Worth visiting
J.
Awesome place, so much stuff
E.
Nice to visit. Lots of old vehicles on show in and amongst the merchandise to purchase . Quaint little restaurant with some delicious coffee ☕ and light meals
R.
What an interesting hardware shop. Thank you for making the exhibits available to view, at no cost. Well worth the visit.
B.
Very helpful, good range of products.
Z.
Just purchased some tools from E Hayes in Invercargill. Was quick and painless even during level 3 of COVID-19.I simply called the store gave them a list of what I was after and the staff collected the items and processed the transaction ready to collect.Where there were more than one available product the staff explained the differences and let me decide which product I would like. A very easy way to support local considering the circumstances.
R.
This amazing place is both general hardware and motorcycle museum in one. The range of products is huge as is the collection which sits among the items for sale. Burt Munro motorcycle world's fastest Indian is the if only the race fairing the iconic. All sorts of bits and bobs of a mechanical nature are everywhere. Take at least an hour. It's a Mecca in the week of Burt Munro Race Week.
J.
Modern hardware store with a twist. Has a quality range of everything from crockery to engineering supplies to paint. The twist - home to replica/originals of Burt Munro's motorbikes etc (Worlds Fastest Indian), and other vintage motorbikes/race cars. Very popular destination.
P.
This is just a hardware store, but the owner has a passion for collecting motorbikes, so the there are many on display. It is free to enter and view the bikes (as well as a few cars and other bits and pieces) and the staff are more than happy to help and answer questions. We bought some bits just as a thankyou for allowing people to see these collectables for free. There are quite a few bikes (including the Indian), a few cars and some other bits. I likes the collection of pistons that Burt tried while fine tuning his bikes. Certainly worth a visit.
C.
I’ve been here a few times and I am always completely blown away by all of the very cool stuff they have on display. If you are ever in New Zealand you absolutely must go there, you won’t regret it. You will only regret it if you don’t go.
B.
Excellent service pleasant knowledgeable staff as always could have done with another person on the counter was a bit of a wait to get served as one staff 4 customers wouldn't put me off though wonderful shop
A.
A hardware store that stocks anything that you require. Knowledgeable staff who are able to help in choosing the right tools or products required.
Excellent displays of motorcycles and vehicles owned by the Hayes family including the original World's Fastest Indian and Burt Munro display. Highly recommended.
C.
Fantastic place to visit!
R.
made to feel very welcome. free tea and coffee. service excellent good range of quality items at a reasonable price. And you can see the world's fastest Indian and a range of motorbikes cars and memorabilia. all for free. are must visit in invercargill
J.
Always a good business to visit always helpful the staff a real old fashion style about the place
L.
After searching at places like repco and supercheap and finding them lacking choice and being grossly over-priced. E Hayes had a better selection and much more competitively pricing. I often forget how good E Hayes really is.
C.
Fantastic place definitely worth a visit
M.
I visited E. Hayes hardware store during September to viewing the famous Burt Munro's Indian Scout motorbike that STILL holds the World record. My son and I were able to purchase our souvenirs of Burt Munro's life. We were both very pleased with our purchases and the friendly staff. We flew out of Brisbane and landed at Christchurch then the next day we travelled south.
M.
Fantastic choice for gifts, hardware etc and ofcourse you get to see the Fastest Indian bike etc etc
R.
Good experience, the staff was very helpful,
D.
Both myself and my husband were very impressed with the entire store! Special mention to Christine (?) who exhibited good ol' Southland warmth and friendliness. Pity now we are moving away
G.
For the motor enthusiastic it is free to visit. The World Fastest Indian motor bike is there plus replicates you can get on for photos. Other original items used in the film can be seen.
Also, as an aside, it is New Zealand's greatest hardware store with dedicated knowledge staff. Not to be missed
P.
What can I say. If your close to E Hayes and have never been before then definitely pop in and checking out. It's big and carries a range of products far in excess of any other standard hardware store I've ever seen. From really massive tools to tools I've never seen before. Heaps of misc hardware. And the setting is part museum and part 1920 working hardware store. Love it. Just go in for a look if for no other reason.
J.
Fabulous... We wanted to see Burt Munros 'Red Indian' but found so much more. Very interesting place, something for everyone.
G.
Fantastic place they have everything you need to repair those little to big jobs even gifts or even a bit of old school bikes and tools on display and lying around enjoy

Fantastic. Gift selections outstanding. You could never say you couldnt find a gift here. Even for the hardest person to buy for. And the experience of the cars and displays are fabulous. What a brilliant shop.
H.
If you like the Burt Munroe storey, this is the place. You will also find a great deal of other historical motorbikes and cars. Plus if you need a tool, you are in the right place.
A.
Omg
I was told that there were things to look for here.
But I didn't know how truly important this place is for the New Zealand culture.
This is the home of Burt Munro's real Indian!!!!

Home of 'The World's Fastest Indian' motor bikes, including the original Indian bike built by the late Burt Munro. An awesome collection of motor bikes and some cars! Plus, you can purchase memorabilia of the Indian motorcycle. E Hayes is also a hardware store, with everything you need to do those jobs at home, inside and outside.
W.
Best hardware store ever.
M.
Amazing, store come museum all in one place, the resting place of Bert Munro's collection of bike parts etc plus other things such as tools of all kinds 😊
J.
A must visit for rev heads and/or history fans. Doubles as a functioning hardware shop and a musueum. Large range of motorcycles and the odd car. Also houses the original fast Indian. If you are after fastest Indian memorial, this the place to buy it. The prices are not bad, though on the higher end. It also contains a gift shop with different knick knacks to fill the hearts content.
I.
This hardware store and Motorcycle display is not to be missed, as good a hardware store as you will find anywhere with the motorcycles on display including Bert Munros original bike's and props from the movie.

Fantastic place to visit a hardware shop and museum all rolled into one. Great to see the Burt Munro bikes on display in the shop.
L.
Great shop and cafe.
Excellent for Xmas shopping.
E.
Because you can get things you don't always find in Christchurch. I was staying down with my mum on this particular visit & I was after something particular. Why you can't always get what you want in Christchurch is partly due to mother nature, and places moving or going out of business / town.
D.
A fantastic hardware store even if no bikes and cars were displayed they have everything you need plus things you dont
N.
I saw my old bike! Great collection, well worth the stop in. Friendly staff.
J.
Lovely shop, well set out, wonderful stock, kitchen and gift depth excellent but pricey.

G.
Amazing place and it's just a store but really nice to see the memorable antiques

They have everything you need and you can choose the quantity you want instead of buying excess in plastic packages.
F.
Wow certainly worth a visit.
J.
Easy to navigate, friendly & helpful staff, would highly recommend them to anyone
S.
Wow what a store. Great gifts, clothes and hardware and then there are the bikes and cars and other bits of machinery.
At every corner there is something else to look at from old lawnmowers to the acclaimed Indian motorcycle.
The engine made from random parts such as pressure cooker and bedpam is amazing. And it works.
Don't miss this wonderful "Heath Robinson" store.
Sian. UK
I.
As a tourist, I'm not interested in DIY. But E Hayes & sons deserve huge thanks from the world, for maintaining a fabulous collection of museum pieces from motor a motorcycle history. And if I ever need a double handed hammer, I'll come back and buy one.
K.
I wasn't there to buy anything, but staff was friendly to give some story of Birt Munro and his World's Fastest Indian, if you ever seen the movie, you have to check this place out, if you weren't, then watch it and come here to check it out.

A hardware store is a dangerous place for anyone into DIY. In this place you will get lost in the tools and also the cars and bikes in the store. An unusual combination of cars, bikes and a hardware store. Worthwhile to visit because it's free but also a credit to the Hayes Family for what they have done. You can't go to invercargill without going to see the world's fastest Indian plus a lot of other Burt Munro items. Another rare item there is Burts Velocette speed bike.

The best range in town! And the only thing that beats that, is the knowledge the staff have.
I'm yet to have a question go unsolved, or helpful advice not given.
Great place to get exactly what you need, or discover all the bits you never knew you needed, and get them anyway.
J.
