The system is under a lot of pressure but everyone is doing their best.
If you haven't been here, the campus is divided in multiple buildings, with the 4 main ones being the Main ("old") hospital, housing a lot of wards and services, Christchurch Public Women's (new, very nice), the ED (new, very nice) and the 6 floors above it aka the new entrance, finally is Outpatients, which is a modern building on the corner. I've added a selection of photos from the old building, the shops and front, and the beautiful 😍 chapel.

I was rushed into A&E at midnight and through a pandemic, what a hard working and dedicated bunch they really are. Hats off to these remarkable human beings. AAA+++

I have recently been in ward 18 at Christchurch Public Hospital. The staff were amazing. The nurses were nothing but caring and so professional. I felt so confident in our future. Could not do enough to make you feel comfortable. Just to mention a few. Penny, Robyn, Meg, Laura and Caitlin and so many more whom I don’t remember the names of. The lady Eve who brought around the meals. The cleanliness was tops. The aids were so hard working. Loved my stay even though it was in a hospital. Meals were great. In the times we have which make everything that bit more difficult you are all doing an amazing job. Everyone has their own individual things going on in their lives but still come to work and cheer people up and give them top care. Well done and thank you. Did really worry when these young girls were finishing very late at night and going to cars parked some distance away. So unsafe. Keep well and safe everyone. Thanks again. 🙏🌺

They have helper's to help you get to where you need to go. That was so great. I was taken by a helper. We chatted as we walked. It's was great. I get so lost in big places. Thank you for your help. So much appreciated

This hospital can bring you very efficient medical services, and the nurses and doctors look very kind. When my aunt had an emergency, this hospital gave my aunt the fastest emergency treatment! thanks
D.
I stayed there for 12 days…and I’ve had the best treatment at all. All the staffs from coffee lady to the surgeons are so kind, polite and careful with the patients. I’m glad to that!!

Dad went toED yesterday. The new building is great.clean and modern. Staff was very friendly. Doctors and nurses were very friendly and professional.

I arrived here for surgery following a skiing accident, the staff were amazing. All incredibly professional, and did everything they could to ensure I got the best treatment possible. Thank you so much for your support and care!

I've had to visit this hospital a few times in the past year. I found the staff to be fantastic. Super friendly and seem to genuinely care. The wait between appoints was a bit ridiculous though.

We visited children's Outpatient surgical clinic on the riverside lower ground today. They have a latched gate which was very secure for toddlers and their wait area has a Thomas the train, fish tank with bubbling crocodile, car track and some trucks and tractor toys, great for younger children and hard to make them leave the place for leave the wait room to go to the clinics. A friendly St John's volunteer at the wait area to support visiting families. Friendly doctors and receptionists. The only thing disappointed us was there was also a registra in the room, it's part of her learning apparently. However, we weren't told that she was going to be there hearing our son's report beforehand, it's private stuff, getting our consent should be the basic. There's definitely room for improvement.

Christchurch hospital is the biggest and best hospital in Christchurch. It has many wards for many different reasons. both of my children were born at this hospital. It has heaps of Kind, professional, respectful understanding nurses, doctors and other staff. It is the best place to go if your in Christchurch and you have any medical issues or a baby on the way.
G.
Honestly cannot speak more higher of the nurses and doctors at Christchurch Hospital. So caring, warm and helpful! Yes, they're extremely busy and the wait times are long (I waited 12+ hours without eating or drinking for my surgery) but heck, these people deserve SO much praise for the work they do. The care there is outstanding. Hopefully I never have to come into hospital again, but if I do - I know I'm in good hands. New renovated hospital is great too, alot more spacious!
D.
Great nurses and doctors.. friendly and genuinely concerned. Parking at hospital is disgusting..not easy ..!

I have been a regular visitor to ward 11 over the past 2.5 years. I can not thank the nurses, medical staff, my anesthetic team lead by Morag and the fantastic ENT team lead by Mr Keast. Their support and care giving was second to none. Best team of medical professionals I have dealt with. Words can not accurately the admiration I have for these guys.
I.
Every single time I have need to access the Public Health services at ChCh Hospital I have been so impressed with the outstanding professionalism of all medical and support services available. We are extremely fortunate to have people with the skills and dedication which are so available to us here. We could not ask for better.
p.
I had total heart block which is very serious, the ambulance staff who assessed me first were wonderful. CCU were great I was operated on twice and I am much better. All the staff were absolutely wonderful, they operate under extreme pressure because of the demand on services. I can't thank them enough for their professional attitudes, kindness and compassion.

No one is able to "predict" an emergency, and for that reason, I was not able to predict to be in the Hospital on the 26th of December, Boxing Day. I think about all that staff, registered nurses and doctors who would rather be with their family and loved ones than at work in such a nice day. And for my surprise, I was so well treated in this place, for such caring and lovely staff... I got there with a burning and was immediately treated by an amazing nurse. I will never forget the way this place received me. Bless you all!
D.
Went to ICU and very good staff that I seen..
L.
I have been here for emergency surgery before, for a head injury and here twice for other people who were in and have found the hospital to be easy to get around. All staff I encounter seemed friendly and professional. I fainted and fall over when in the emergency department and was accommodated well by the student nurses who were working at the time.
A.
Dont think was taken seriously by some of the staff. Totally did not investigate why or what was going on with me. Overall its ok but Wellington hospital service is much much better then Christchurch. And as a hospital in a develop country its joke not to have parking for patient and guest visiting patients. What a joke on Christchurch.
J.
Spent weekend in sara ward. The staff could not have been nicer. Very helpful explanations for all procedures during the two days. Such a jolly lot I almost wished I worked with them.
A.
I went to get my chest checked at as it has been giving me so much pain and had referrals from gps and it seemed like they didn't believe me maybe because i look young and they said they would send my case to someone else and literally never heard from them after a year. Its sad thinking of hw many people have had the same experience as me but went to another place which was so much nicer
S.
All staff from ED to the neurological department that I stayed in were very professional, caring and friendly. I couldn't have been in a better place to recover. Thanks to all for making my stay as comfortable as possible. Brilliant service and patient care!
M.
Absolutely amazing experience, my son had second degree burns and was seen immediately. So much care and attention from highly skilled and genuinely caring staff. Could not have asked for a better experience.
Thanks so much to all of the wonderfull nurses and doctors of Christchurch hospital.
Parked in the emergency area and just left our car there for a couple of hours. Staff assured us there would be no issues.. Which there wasn't.
B.
Incredibly positive experience with an eye procedure in the day surgery facility. Without exception and from beginning to end, Prof Mark Elder and all personnel we encountered were connecting, professional, courteous, and skilled. I went through the public system—but was treated like a 5-star patient. Can't imagine any way it could have been better. Thanks to all.
B.
When it comes to a hospital, the parking, food and decor can all be big factors in your experience, and unfortunately ChCh hospital is lacking in all those departments. But honestly, it doesn't matter. The staff are out of this world amazing. Unfortunately our son has been in 3 times in the last couple of months and each time we are overwhelmed with how caring, compassionate & professional all of the staff are. From the cleaners to the nurses, the doctors, consultants and office staff.. they have all gone out of their way to make us feel comfortable and support his recovery. They are so fantastic with young children in the CAAU and we couldn't be more pleased with the service. We are so grateful that they go out of their way to find solutions to weird symptoms, they listen to our experiences and also take time to hear our ideas. We work through a care plan and I feel like they respond well when we want to alter it Ita fantastic resource in our community. As much as I hope we never need to go back, I know that if we do we will have amazing support and care.
R.
Having surgery to correct a problem, great team of people there. They know what they are doing and they took care of me really well. For that reason, as much as I like the nurses, I hope that they will never see me again.
R.
They saved my life. Very grateful. The vascular department was superb. And words cannot adequately express my admiration for the nurses of ward 10. Thank you. These kind words, however, do not extend to the staff of the ENT dept. who win a special prize for their ability to muck me around.....not impressed.
M.
Parking is terrible and they have to do something about it. Max for 2 hours anywhere close and you will be in there longer if you need treatment or diagnosis, meaning you will get a ticket. You might be better off not paying at all and just pay the ticket.
Staff is nice and friendly. Treatment takes very long though, even if no immediate emergencies.
Treatment of my superficial skin wounds wasn't really ideal. They didn't bother with putting on some anti inflammatory or non sticky padding resulting in a terrible inflammation. Next time I'll do it myself.
T.
On time. Helpful bubbly staff. This Hospital has changed. While it's rebuild the staff are growing in their nature as well. Dont get me wrong. Behind the scenes they are still working to hard for too little.

The care offered to my self and a month later to my elderly mother was first class, very attentive to the patient but also took the emotions of the family in to account and offered comfort despite being super busy. The staff are angels - thank you chch public for caring.
L.
I would like to first complement the security guard on being so accommodating on arrival at A & E. After that the thank you goes to The Team once there. We are so fortunate in our country of NZ to have this fantastic caring facility, and it's free for goodness sake .
How blessed are we. Thank you so much for caring, loving, being gentle with my 89 year old Mum who suffered a terrible fall consequently fracturing pelvic and sacrum . A huge thank you Team A & E.
And do not forget The St John's Team who are just The Best.

My wife was rushed to Christchurch Hospital by ambulance not being able to breathe I can not speak highly enough of ALL the staff that played a hand in her care from the ambulance men emergency dept staff then the nurses up in cororany care unit after 7 seven days all the care and attention to her welbeing were all very professional and every test was carried out to see what was wrong with her. Thank you very much to everyone
J.
Staff was helpful. Doctor made me feel assured that my father was being looked after.
D.
Amazing. All staff were professional, friendly and efficient. Could not have received better treatment anywhere for my fractured hip. I was up and doing the stairs first day post op.

Emergency service people are Amazing, the front office, the nurse, the doctor..Im very lucky to have these people who took Care of me in such a good way, they even took Care of my eleven year old daughter and her dog they where waiting in the car .

Just a normal walk with the wife and the dog when I feel a sharp unbearing pain in me left arm. I knew right then it was a heart attack. My life flashed before my eyes. Getting married, divorcing, marrying again, seeing when Joe had 14 pints at the local and pissed himself. I knew it was the end, the final chapter to my book. I fell onto the soft, cool grass at Hagley park and met with darkness as my eyes fell simultaneously. I had a talk with the "all-star" God himself. He told me that my time hadn't come to a conclusion yet as i hadn't; "fixed the bloody fence at the back of the house". I woke up in Christchurch Hospital. My wife had given them a ring to help me out. After a while I felt a lot better and found myself back home. Sunday came along and I remembered what I needed to do. I grabbed the old tool box and worked away at the back fence. Hours of hard and sweaty work and it had been fixed. I felt true happiness at the moment and released that if it wasn't for Christchurch Hospital I wouldn't have had that feeling of full contentment. Thank you and thank God.
P.
my partner is still in their care and they are amazing. i know im a pain in the ass but they still do their very best and mostly treat me and my partner with so much respect. i wish i could do more to repay my gratitude.

Hi, my name is Richard
This letter is to compliment the service I received at Chch hospital, from the security man that helped me park my car the hospital staff and the Nurse Maude field staff.
My only complaint was I found the hospital drafty.
Recently one friday I was showering and discovered an addition to the usual lumps I have in my groin area. I panicked a little not sure what it was.
By saturday morning it had doubled in size, by Monday it was very large.
I discussed with friends before monday and was satisfied i must have a hernia.
Monday or Tuesday morning I went straight to CHCH hospital.
Being from Dunedin the layout was unfamiliar and there were trade vehicles everywhere.
I went to park on a rock island the only space I could find. As i did so a security man advised me not to and pointed to me a place to park. I left my keys with him and expected to be back in an hour or two. When I left a day later my car was bought to the A&E door like a valet and I departed.
The hospital staff made a quick diagnosis and I was admitted to a ward and in surgery by 5pm.
I am very grateful for all the assistance I received and for the kind manner it was provided.
Well done

Great staff, surgeons were efficient *
D.
Shame about the whole hospital facility having no car parking, Not fair on the public or the staff, However this negative point does on impact on the amazing caring staff or the facilities which are excellent
G.
They do lots of mistakes because of University Students. But they correct it well because of University professors. Anyway, it wasn't a good experience. They will wait until you reach the deathline and pick before you die. 100% hate Parking facilities. I always park at Wilsons in Pegasus end.
M.
Thanks to the Stroke unit and all staff at ward 24 for the unsurpassable attention given to my dad in his last days and for the support to the family. And also thank you to the security at main entrance for assisting with mum when visiting.
A.
It's Christchurch's main public hospital. They have doctors and nurses who try to keep you alive.
f.
The hospital staff and services are really good. The cafe though, or one of the staff specifically, made me feel terrible. She was very rude. If she was working for me she would be fired.
D.
I was in hospital November 2017 with by pass ×3 The nurses were real good Thankyou I'm doing great Hello Bee Ward 10..Good food Don't smoke or drink Good Boy A.👍Ashburton.

Theatre and recovery staff are just beautiful. From the Orderly to the Surgeon, what great representation for this hospital as unfortunately it's lacking in other areas.
P.
Took my wife for a check up after knee replacement due to possible complications
Could not have wished for better care and service .The nurses and doctors were amazing even bought sandwiches for lunch for both of us
A big thanks to all in the Emergency department
J.
The hospital surgeons were excellent the Nurses and Managers are Tyrants they do not follow the rules of the Health and Disability Patient rights
D.
Kind and caring and so impressed with the professional service today - you should all be very proud to have such a dedicated and kind group of staff working here and it's such a credit to the hospital and city.
m.
It's currently under construction so I'm hoping that they make more carparks and yes like everyone else is saying, there is a must for time extensions in carparks for outpatients, there is a major wait as well with the doctors, nurses should be able to handle some easy procedures but the major ones, doctors have to ask a few questions and should know what is wrong with their patient, lesson the load, equip nurses with knowledge so procedure runs fast and smoothly
G.

Bouquets, hugs and heartfelt thanks to all who've kept this place of healing going through pandemics, earthquakes, terrorism, flooding and the everyday highs and lows of Ōtautahi life! To everyone - Māori wardens, orderlies, cleaners, volunteers, nurse aids, receptionists, administrators, cooks and cafeteria staff, gardeners, parking wardens, shop owners, chaplains, ambulance drivers, rehabilitation staff, technicians, pathologists and morticians, nurses, doctors and specialists ... kia ora, thank you! You serve our city with self-sacrifice, diligence and compassion and the people of Christchurch are hugely blessed by this. Te aroha e te rangimarie.
