Just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH 😊 to everyone that I've met in the process of having my cataract removed last Friday. Everyone I met, from the covid checking process through to the time that I left, was so lovely and reassuring. They were carefully explaining what they were going to do and what to expect all the way through. I just had to let them all know how much I appreciated their care. Thank you all.

We arrived at Wairarapa Hospital to go to the emergency department and found a tent based Triage out front. First we were both tested for COVID, and thankfully cleared. Within 30 minutes of arrival we were seen in ED and being supremely looked after. Nothing but praise for the staff, process, and cleanliness of this hospital.

I have a mixed review since it's hard to review a place that has many different staff. I've had bad experiences and good. It all depends on the staff you deal with. One of the woman on reception at the A&E is always very rude and moody. She refused to let my husband be seen for his toothache, yet another time they allowed me to be seen for the exact same problem and gave me an injection to numb the pain, my husband went home in excruciating pain. Another woman on reception was much nicer and more helpful. However when we went in to get our 9 month old checked for a fever, a couple of the nurses were quite rude. My LO ended up falling asleep due to being very sick and feverish, I didn't want to wake her and we requested to keep the light off since it was upsetting her and the nurse got very snappy at us and stormed out the room. It was super unprofessional, and discouraged us that we left. We ended up calling an ambulance early the next morning because our LO got worse and the nurses at that hour (2-5am) were much better to deal with and showed compassion for us and our LO.
It is hard having to show up and put your trust in strangers to care for your small child, it's also very unsettling to see your LO in so much pain. Nurses and Dr's who are able to show compassion and understanding toward the parents and their patients is so important and very valued today since it seems many hearts are growing cold.
Thank you to those who did help us and show concern and to those that didn't, I hope you can re evaluate yourselves and show more empathy and less judgment.

I think people forget that staff deal with alot more than what's going on in the waiting room. Nurses break back for patients & severely unpaid for they job they do. Besides the wait, they genuinely do a good job. Without them many of us would be screwed. Cut em some slack. Hospital food is hospital food, cant expect a 5star restaurant, it is what it is. As opposed to other hospitals they are on to it. Good job Masterton hospital keep up all the good work.

I give credit where credit is due. Yes the wait times are abysmal. Sometimes even criminal. No one should wait longer than an hour especially if its an emergency. I waited 4 hours to be seen with my leg swelling out and leaking fluid all over the place. But once seen to, I was greeted with the most careful, courteous staff that were interested in my comfort and getting me to where I needed to be. The nursing staff are run off their feet tending to the many patients including myself. I have nothing but praise for them. Honestly without this hospital in place here, we would be up poo creek without a paddle

Have lived in the Wairarapa for 16 years, two family members have had to visit the hospital on occasion for minor surgery, routine X-ray and other tests. Had to visit the after hours emergency service in the middle of the night, just got home now and realized I had never rated and reviewed the service. There were never any hassles, all staff interactions have been professional and friendly. Never had to wait unreasonable lengths of time to be seen or treated. Credit were credits due and I cannot fault Wairarapa Hospital.

The care given in the A&E by Nurse Rachel and Dr Mohammed was exemplary. Friendly and professional with good chat. It's a shame I had to get injured to enjoy their company.

Excellent experience today here with a child. Colouring pens and paper available for waiting kids, special child-friendly booth with owl paintings on the walls and a children's film playing on a little TV to distract the kids from the triage procedure. Staff were very friendly and helpful, child was attended to quickly and properly, x-ray completed in less than an hour from arrival. And all this was on Christmas Eve! They even gave the kids presents. Also free and plentiful parking, both on-site and on the road outside. Couldn't fault a single thing.

Taken in by ambulance and fantastic care was given to my husband.

Understaffed, overworked, underpaid but what hospital in this country isn't. The staff do their best but the ER wait can be horrendous. Top tip, if it's even potentially a little bit serious, call an ambulance.

Well attended staff during our stay at the hospital. Polite and helpful.
